Background

Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule Satan in the Funimation dub, is the World Martial Arts Champion and the Earth's protector. His real name is Mark.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Hercule’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Legend of Mr. Satan (Legend of Hercule in the North American versions) is an optional mode unlocked through capsules. In this mode, players control Hercule as he defeats several opponents, arcade-style. Some fights have special conditions, such as only using Ki to attack, or defeating the opponent within a time limit. The final opponent is Perfect Cell.

In this alternate reality, Hercule actually fights and defeats all of the Z fighters, and Perfect Cell, saving the world.

Attack Potency: At least Island level (Fought and defeated Perfect Cell, who is far superior to his Semi-Perfect form, who destroyed several islands with several blast. Fought against Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Krillin, Android 16, Future Trunks, Vegeta, Piccolo, Cell Jr., Son Goku, & Son Gohan all back to back with no breaks)

Durability: At least Island level, Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard), Lower with Ki Control (Higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them)

Powers and Techniques

Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[13][14][15] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[16], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[17] block attacks that would otherwise[18] kill them from[19] raising their guard[20], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[21]), Aura (Projection; A users ki aura can exert itself[22] as a weapon to attack[23]. Explosive; Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[24], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[25]. Mood Reflection; Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[26]), Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[27]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[28] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[29]), Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[30]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[31], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[32], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[33], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[34], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[35], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[36]), Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[37]), Penetration Damage (Bladed Penetration; Ki users can conjure up a circle of chi that is sharp and can cut through enemies far more powerful then themselves[38][39], along with this they can conjure ki as a means to stab through an opponent[40]), Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[41]), Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[42]), Attack Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Those with ki can nullify attacks of lesser ki with their ki alone[43][44]. They can also catch and nullify ki attacks around their level through focusing enough[45]), Power Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[46], which fully destroys a target[47], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[48], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[49], along with even the likes of Son Goku[50]), Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[51]. These forcefields can be expanded[52], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[53]), Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[54], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[55]), Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[56] release all of the energy within them[57] to cause a massive[58] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[59] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[60]), Binding (Energy Binding; Ki Users can use their ki to bind targets to objects, making them unable to escape even if they're of equal power[61], however, those stronger than the ki user can easily break out of it[62]), Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[63]), Non-Standard Interaction (Intangible Interaction; Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[64]. Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D); Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[65]), Healing (Healing Singular Targets, Advanced Healing; Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[66], it can also heal from near death[67]), Resurrection (Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited); Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[68]. Resurrection from Exhaustion; Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[69]), Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[70], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[71], exerting fear[72] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[73] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[74]), Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[75]), Vibration Manipulation (Seismic Vibration Manipulation; Ki users can transfer their ki into an object and cause it to vibrate and shake greatly[76]. Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up[77]), Electricity Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate electricity around their aura that can outright electrocute their opponents[78], Goku and Piccolo Jr. showcased being able to utilize their aura as pure electricity during their clash[79]), Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[80]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[81]), Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[82]), Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[83], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[84], or in front of them[85]), Heat Manipulation (Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[86][87], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat. Ki users electricity aura can burn objects that touch it[88]), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[98]).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[99]), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Can resist poisons through Forcefield Creation[100])

Equipment

  • 45-Calibre Gun: Mr. Satan used his handgun in attempt to stop Super Buu's Finger Beam, and believed he did so when Tien Shinhan obliterated the ball with his Tri-Beam technique without Satan noticing this. He also uses it against Merus in self-defense when trying to stop the Galactic Patrol from taking Good Buu, but Merus shoots the bullets down with his Ray Gun. He also uses it in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Butōden to cheat in the Satan Mode, and in the Legacy of Goku series to replace the Ki Blasts the other playable characters can use. Appears in Dragon Ball Fusions as one of Mr. Satan's Special Moves under the name .45 Gun.
  • Poison: Among the various items Mr. Satan utilized in his attempts to kill Innocent Buu.
    • Fancy Chocolates! Help yourself!: A box of high quality gourmet chocolate which Mr. Satan secretly laced with poison. Given to Innocent Buu during one of Mr. Satan's covert attempts to kill the Majin. Unfortunately, Majin Buu's digestive system is easily able to handle the toxin, resulting in Innocent Buu suffering no ill effects.
  • Present For You: Mr. Satan dashes towards his opponent, stops at the last second, hands his opponent a giftwrapped box (which contains a handheld video game console and game), and then he runs off as his opponent is distractedly playing the portable game. Satan then pushes a remote-control button to make the handheld game explode.
  • Jetpack: A piece of equipment used by Mr. Satan to fly without the use of ki.

Notable Techniques

  • Hikou: Mr. Satan can "fly" by utilizing a jetpack.
  • Dynamite Kick: Mr. Satan used this against Perfect Cell, with no effect outside of video games.
  • Hercule Critical Attack: Mr. Satan kicks the opponent up in the air, then he kicks and punches them down back.
  • Hercule Miracle Bomber: Mr. Satan attacks the opponent with weak punches, and then tries to kick them, but the opponent hits Satan up in the air. When Mr. Satan comes falling down, he lands on the opponent for damage.
  • Rolling Hercule Punch: Mr. Satan rolls towards the opponent, only to make a punch that slams the opponent away. White and blue stars, along with funny sounds emits when he successfully hit the opponent.

Other

Standard Tactics: Mr. Satan will use martial arts techniques along with his dynamite kick attack or "Present for You!".

Weaknesses

Note

  • Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[103].
  • The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

Trivia

  • In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, during The Legend of Mr. Satan mode, he remarks that Piccolo resembles the evil King Piccolo, indicating that he was present during his attempts of world domination, or is at least aware of him.

    It’s a ring name!
I gave him a ring name that was reminiscent of a pro grappler. His real name is “Mark”1. Since the region where Satan lives doesn’t split up names into given names and family names, his name is simply “Mark”."
