The hero of the game, Desmond Belmont wields the Vampire Killer whip and tries to stop The Order, an mysterious cult planning to resurrect Dracula.

Background

Desmond Belmont was born to the Belmont Clan during the 1600s, alongside his sisters Zoe and Dolores Belmont, as the son of Soleil Belmont. Desmond exists in an alternate timeline to the main continuity, although for unknown reasons, as his game doesn’t present any contradictions or alternative events that would make it not fit.

Much like the rest of the male members of the Belmont Clan, Desmond was raised to be a powerful hunter of the night, and thus became incredibly proficient in using a variety of weapons; including swords, knives, axes, crosses, and the Belmont’s trademark whips.

However, when Desmond and his sisters were still fairly young, their father caught wind of a powerful group of Dracula worshippers that called themselves the Order of Shadows. Soleil took the Vampire Killer and made his way into the mansion where the Order of Shadows resided, but was fatally wounded by the leader of the Order, Rohan Krause.

Soleil made his way back to his three children and, before dying, passed the Belmont family’s legendary Vampire Killer whip down to Desmond. Many years passed and the Belmont kids grew into competent young adults; at last, they were prepared to take down the Order of Shadows.

Desmond, Zoe, and Dolores ventured into the cursed mansion in which the Order resided; Zoe and Dolores sought for the chamber in which Rohan resided, while Desmond destroyed as many monsters as he could. Eventually, Zoe discovered a powerful relic that had once belonged to the Belmont’s, but fell into the hands of the Order. This was the gauntlet of Leon Belmont, which had been blessed with alchemy by Rinaldo Gandolfi. Desmond reclaimed this artifact and wore it, granting alchemic powers unto him.

At long last, Zoe and Dolores discovered the hiding place of Rohan Krause, and Desmond immediately headed inside. After Rohan taunted Desmond’s dad and claimed the Vampire Killer whip would be useless, a battle ensued. Much to Rohan’s surprise, Desmond was able to strike him down. With his dying breath, Rohan used his own blood to resurrect Count Dracula, and Dracula’s Castle rose once again.

With absolutely no time to waste, Desmond rushed into Dracula’s Castle and stormed his way through it, mowing down enemy after enemy before coming to the Dark Lord himself. Dracula admitted that he was not at full strength, but conceded that he should still be able to win.

Desmond mustered all the power he could and struck down the Dark Lord, who stated that he would always return no matter what. Assuring Dracula that there would always be a Belmont waiting for him to send him back to hell, he struck him one final time with the Vampire Killer, and ended the conflict.

With everything finally over, Desmond took Zoe and Dolores and left the crumbling castle. He would go on to continue the Belmont bloodline, presumably becoming the father of the legendary Simon Belmont.

The Belmonts can use their stored energy (hearts) and transfer it into subweapons to make regular weapons as strong as they are along with magically enhancing them[74]), Invulnerability (Belmonts have an inborn self-defense ability known as "Burning Mode" which makes them invincible and raises their status to twice the normal level[75]), Statistics Boost (Belmonts get stronger from hearing of someone's grief, wanting to help them[76]), Reactive Power Level (As Dracula grows stronger each time he revives, the Belmonts have had to keep up, evolving to be powerful even without the strength of the Vampire Killer[77]), Sealing (Metaphysical Sealing; Belmonts can capture the spirits of enemies equal or greater to an area boss and use their abilities from their soul[78]), Nullification (Sealing Nullification; Belmonts such as Julius can compltely destroy barriers, however depending on how strong the barrier is, they may have no more energy to fight[79])

Resistances to Extreme Colds (Belmonts can walk in ice cold rooms without much worry[80]), Extreme Heats (Belmonts can travel in boiling hot rooms without much affect[81]. They can also fight enemies such as the Flame Elemental who emerges from the lavas of the room with the whole room being so hot it's colored red[82]. Richter showcases this where he moves around in a burning city without much affect or limitation to his movements[83]), Absorption (Belmonts can fight and take hits from the mist[84], a creature that swallows up the living[85]), Life-Force Absorption (Belmonts can take hits from the Spirit[86], which is an evil spirit that sucks up people's life energy[87]), Corruption (Belmonts can be bitten by vampires without instantly turning[88]), Helfire Attacks (Belmonts can take hits from the Flame Demon, a demon that wields the fires of Hell[89]), Status Effect Inducement, Poison Manipulation, & Curse Manipulation (The Belmonts are all ones with strong courage and willpower, where having a strong constitution dictates and influences how fast one can recover from status effects such as poison or curse[90]), Paralysis Inducement (Belmonts can be paralyzed[91], and slowly recover from the effects of it[92]), Attack Reflection (Belmonts can[93] hit Dracula[94] with different[95] projectile[96] attacks[97], this extends to even Morrises'[98], where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[99]), Petrification (Belmonts can[100] take hits[101], from Medusa heads[102] who can turn one into stone upon contacting them[103]. Reality Warping (The Castle does not work on standard logic, where changing rooms can have one view a completely different background[133], such as room with a blue sky that is reflecting up and downwards and having the cloud srotate at a fast speed[134]), Transmutation (Beings that come near are subject to the castle's influence, such as a local barnyard owl which was mutated just from flying near it[135]), Possession (The castle possesses objects with its magic, such as a ouija table[136]), Sealing (Dracula's magic captured Aguni, a primitive god of fire[137]. The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[138]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not affect it until the seal is gone[139]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[140], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[141]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[142]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[143]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[144]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[145]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[146]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[147]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[148]. Along with this to protect against ice attacks in series, one normally wears rings that help them resist against absolute zero[180]), Holy Fire Manipulation (With Firestorm, rain holy fire on creatures from the underworld[181]), Hellfire Manipulation (With Hellfire, Desmond calls forth three fireballs from hell by channeling Dracula[182]), Electricity Manipulation (With lightning, shoots bolts of lightning from Desmond's fingertips[183]), Healing (With heal, replenshishes 50 health[184]), Statistics Boost (With the gambler, take a chance at increasing attack power or defensive ability[185])

Wields the Vampire Killer, which grants:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Non-Standard Interaction (Metaphysical Interaction; The Whip of Alchemy can interact with ghost[186]. Elemental Interaction; The Whip of Alchemy can interact with enemies that are the mist itself[187]), Air Manipulation (The Alchemy whip can create a large gust of wind with its finishing attack in a combo[188]. The Alchemy whip can create wind blades around its user to protect them from all directions[189]), Light Manipulation (The Alechemy whip can bring down holy light to attack the enemy[190]), Holy Manipulation (Holy Whips cannot be touched by people weak to holy magic or else it will burn their hands and cause them to disentergrate[191]).



Resistance to Mimicry (The Castle is unable to perfectly mimic Leon's weapons[192])

Whips

  • Vampire Killer: The complete form of the Whip of Alchemy, infused with the soul of Sara Trantoul. It can slay anything related to the vampires. This whip would be passed down to the rest of the Belmont Clan, and used to slay Dracula countless times.
  • Flame Whip: The Vampire Killer given the elemental attribute of fire.

Sub-Weapons

  • Demon Sword: A large red sword that was once wielded by a knight. It had been cursed by a dark priest.
  • Cross: This is a boomerang, which is shaped like a holy cross. It returns to Desmond after being thrown.
  • Sacred Cross: This cross has been blessed with holy powers, which arches forwards and then returns when thrown.
  • Throwing Axe: An axe made with silver, which Desmond uses to throw at his enemies. He is noted in saying that he finds this axe heavy to carry around.
  • Lightning Hammer: A giant, nearly indestructible hammer that has been energized with electricity.
  • Vjaya: This legendary sword is said to have been created from one of Indra’s lightning bolts.
  • Muramasa: A legendary sword said to have a life of its own, crafted by both a legendary swordsman and blacksmith.
  • Crissaegrim: An extremely rare and extremely powerful sword which can strike a target several times.
  • Platinum Sword: A light-weight sword made from the purest of platinum.

Alchemy

  • Frostbolt: This spell harnesses the element of ice.
  • Invulnerability: Makes Desmond temporarily invulnerable to all attacks.
  • Reflect: Reflects all attacks directly back at the sender.
  • Lightning: Allows Desmond to shoot electricity from his fingertips.
  • Frostbolt: This spell harnesses the element of ice.
  • Firestorm: Rains down holy fire on the enemy.
  • Heal: Restores a small amount of Desmond’s health.
  • Meteor: Summons a giant meteor that crashes down upon enemies.
  • The Gambler: This spell will randomly choose between raising Desmond’s attack or defence.
  • Hellfire: Through channeling the powers of the Dark Lord, Desmond can shoot balls of hellfire.

    • Backdash: This move is useful for Desmond to avoid enemy attacks, has him dash backwards.
    • Slide[263]: Desmond's slide allows him to fit into smaller places.
    • Double Jump[264]: Desmond can jump and then jump again while in the air in order to get to higher places.
