And Ada, why, she has really blossomed into a beautiful woman. She will be a perfect sacrifice to offer Count Dracula for these powers! You will find everything out soon enough, Cornell. Soon enough. | „ | |
~ Ortega to Cornell |
“ | Toooo late, Cornell. Why, you've lost before the fight has even begun. Still, you've always kept your promises, so I knew you would come. Now we can settle this business once and for all. Ooh, it feels like my head's been laid open. I can't restrain my power. Oh, yes. You used to be a step quicker than I at one time. You, the only man-beast who can manipulate the seal. A year ago when we went head to head your eyes were as cold as the moon. They were eyes that saw a weaker opponent. You did not respect me... But the man you see before you today is changed. Changed from that time. Changed I say! <pant, pant> Cornell, are you really so worried about Ada's well-being? Why do you go to such lengths? Why, you and Ada are virtually strangers. You are not blood relatives. The sacrificial rites should already have begun by now. If you plan on rescuing Ada, you'd better hurry or you'll be too late! However, first we've got a score to settle between ourselves! At last you show me your true colors. But do you think this is all I've got? Ha ha ha ha! Oh, what a great feeling! Now I am ready for battle. Are...you...ready...Cor...nell? | „ | |
~ Ortega to Cornell |
“ | <pant, gasp> It appears that I am still not the match for you, Cornell. I thought I could surpass our strength with Dracula's powers. Ada is being kept in the clock tower. She has not been sacrificed yet. I wanted to settle this score even if it meant disobeying Dracula. So I have no regrets, now that I have fought the true you. I only regret what I did to the villagers, but it is too late for that now. At the very least, if you could... ... save that girl, Ada. Get away, Cornell. My power is going out of control. I can't stop it. | „ | |
~ Ortega to Cornell |
Background
Ortega is a character from Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. He is both the closest friend and the fiercest rival of Cornell, hailing from the same village and sharing the same man-beast heritage. Ortega plays a significant role in Cornell's storyline, where he takes on the role of a recurring antagonist. His actions and motives are central to the conflict, driven by his ambition to surpass Cornell and his ultimate decision to align himself with darker forces.

---|
Early History This search eventually led him to darkness, as he discovered that Dracula was the only being capable of granting him the power he sought. Dracula agreed to give Ortega the strength he desired, but in return, he demanded that Ortega assist his demons in their mission to kidnap Cornell’s sister Ada and destroy their village. Ortega was also instructed to prevent Cornell from rescuing Ada. Driven by his desire for power and to finally end his rivalry with Cornell, Ortega accepted Dracula's offer, making a pact with the dark lord. While he gained immense power through the deal, he lost his humanity in the process. Events in Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness Later in the game, Ortega makes another appearance. This time, he traps Cornell in a cage and forces him to battle a massive werewolf, one that is now under Dracula's control. After Cornell defeats the werewolf, he discovers that Ortega has once again vanished, leaving him with no clear explanation. However, the final confrontation is fast approaching. At last, Ortega chooses to face Cornell at the top of the room of clocks, a large space that sets the stage for their climactic battle. The two exchange heated words, and Ortega, showing the full extent of his new powers, transforms into a fearsome, three-headed Chimera. He attacks Cornell with all of his strength, using his powerful new form to its fullest. Despite the intensity of their battle, Cornell proves to be the stronger of the two warriors, defeating Ortega and inflicting severe injuries in the process. As Ortega reverts to his human form, he realizes that his life is coming to an end. In his final moments, he tells Cornell where to find Ada, admitting that while he doesn't regret his decision to join Dracula in order to witness the full power of Cornell's Man-Beast abilities, he does regret his role in attacking the village. He acknowledges that it's far too late for him to make amends. Unable to control his powers any longer, Ortega self-destructs, his body exploding as he throws himself off the tower in his final act. Before his death, he warns Cornell to stay away from him, and it's suggested that Ortega had kept Ada hidden away in the Clock Tower, preventing her from falling into Dracula's hands. |

Powers and Techniques
Is a Creature of the Night, which gives:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[35], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[36]), Intimidation (Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[37]), Immortality (Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[38]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Creatures of the Night can continue to exist even as a spirit and use their spirit form to form bodies out of inanimate material around them[39]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[40]. With their souls being completely free from time[41]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[42]), Free Will (Creatures of the Night do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[43]), Empowerment (Creatures of the night are empowered by the night[44], becoming stronger when it's night time[45]), Evolution (Creatures of chaos can inherit evil natures[46] awakening into stronger enemies with new abilities and less weaknesses[47]), Resurrection (Self-Resurrection; Creatures of chaos can be brought back to life from the power of hate[48]. This has also been shown with slain heads reviving as an angry wraith[49]), Regeneration (Mid-Godly overtime; Even the castle from Castlevania is a Creature of Chaos[50], where they are always rebirth from Chaos with each rebirth, the creatures takes a new form[51], with this state being referred to as a "regeneration cycle"[52]), Invisibility (Creatures of Chaos possess a natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[53]), Time Manipulation (Passive; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[54]), Darkness Manipulation & Subjective Reality (Creatures of chaos very existence causes dark powers to flow beyond the control of the Elgos' grimoires, due to them collecting documented information on Dracula and his castle. Causing their power to materialize in the real world in the form of monsters[55]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[56], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[57]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[58]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[59]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[60], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[61], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[62], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[63]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[64]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[65], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[66]), Law Manipulation (Creatures of Chaos can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[67]), Power Modification (Creatures of the night alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[68]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[69]).
Resistance to Dracula's Castle (Can enter Dracula's Castle without experiencing any adverse effects[96])
The Castle Abilities Include:
All previous powers and abilities, Natural Weaponry (Has sharp teeth, allowing him to bite into Cornell, even in his werewolf form[136]), Flight (Ortega now has natural wings allowing him to fly[137]), Additional Limbs & Multiple Organisms (Has three heads that all act independently[138]), Breath Attack & Energy Projection (Can shoot out energy rings out of one of his heads mouths[139]), Fire Manipulation (Can shoot out massive flames from his mouth[140])
Equipment
Nothing notable
Notable Techniques
- Werewolf Transformation: Ortega has the ability to control his own seal to unleash his werewolf form, making him stronger and faster.
- Chimera Transformation: Due to Ortega receiving power from Dracula, his transformation makes him go all the way into a Chimera state.
- Pounce Attack: Ortega in his Chimera state pounces onto the enemy, biting them while shaking them with his mouth.
- Energy Rings: One of Ortega's heads while he's flying around shoots out several energy wings to attack the enemy with.
- Fire Breath: Ortega after taking enough damage shoots out a massive fire breath from his mouth.
Other
Standard Tactics: Ortega flies around and has one of his heads shoot out energy rings. When on the ground he will either swipe at the enemy or pounce on them to bite them. When his other heads are destroyed, he will start also shooting out fire breaths.
Weaknesses
- Creatures of the Night Weaknesses: Creatures of the night become weaker when exposed to the morning sun[141]. Garlic significantly weakens creatures of the night[142], and causes demons to die if its placed on the ground[143]. If a vital soul is defeated, the grimoire will revert back to its original content[144].
- Man-Beast Weaknesses: If a man-beast severs their man-beast half from their human half, they will lose their wolf power[145]. If a man-beast overuses their power, they will self-destruct, leaving nothing of their body left[146].
- Unique Weaknesses: His want to fight Cornell was so great he was willing to betray everyone to do so leaving behind regrets that he can never fix[147].
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[148]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[149], a knight who has natural holy powers[150]. Corrupted enemies such as Charlie Vincent, use holy water attacks on Carrie and Reinhardt[151].
Trivia
- His chimeric form resembles that of Vapula.

“Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
However-----
Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
