Background
Isaac serves as the main antagonist in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. Obsessed with bondage and self-inflicted pain, Isaac is a Devil Forgemaster who devises a plan to draw Hector back to Dracula’s Castle, intending to make him Dracula’s new host. To achieve this, he manipulates events that lead to Hector’s wife being condemned and executed as a witch. Throughout the story, Isaac’s sister, Julia, tries to stop Hector from seeking vengeance and killing him.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Isaac’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |

Events of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (Manga)
After Hector used his powers to save Rosaly from a werewolf, Isaac confronted him. Their fight ended when Trevor Belmont defeated Dracula, causing the castle to vanish, and Isaac was left for dead. However, Isaac survived and watched Hector for the next three years, plotting his revenge. He spread rumors that Rosaly was a witch selling poisoned apples, leading to her execution, and Hector arrived too late to save her. Events of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
As Hector's powers grew, he confronted Isaac in Cordova. Isaac tested Hector's strength but was interrupted by his sister, Julia. Isaac escaped, telling Hector to grow stronger. At Aiolon Ruins, he fought Trevor Belmont and obtained the blood needed to unlock hidden chambers below the castle. He tricked Hector into resurrecting Dracula's castle and stabbed Trevor from behind. In their final battle inside the castle, Isaac was defeated. Zead, who is actually Death, used Isaac's body for Dracula's resurrection instead of Hector. After Hector defeated Dracula, his soul left Isaac's body, and he collapsed. Julia said goodbye to her brother as she and Hector escaped the collapsing castle. Isaac is a tragic figure despite his cruel actions and obsession with revenge. Hector realizes that Isaac's madness and actions were driven by Dracula's influence. Ultimately, Isaac could find peace only in death, and Hector granted him this release when Julia said there was no other way. |

- Rasetz: A Battle-Type Innocent devil he summons to come to his aid for attacks.

Other
Standard Tactics
- Cordova Town: He wields the Chauve-souris spear and performs powerful, enhanced versions of Hector's spear combos, including:
- Skidding Thrust: A quick ground skid toward the enemy with the spear held low, ending with a fiery upward stab that sends his target flying.
- Whirlwind Spin: Spinning the spear to create a damaging whirlwind around himself, hitting all nearby enemies.
- Rapid Stabbing: A series of extended thrusts, making it hard to escape his range.
- Ground Slam Shockwave: Slamming the spear into the ground with such force that it generates a shockwave, dealing damage in a wide area.
He is swift and evasive, frequently rolling to dodge attacks or blocking effectively. Abel is a constant menace in the encounter, focusing on both Hector and his summoned Innocent Devil but often targeting Hector’s devil specifically to disrupt support, making it essential to manage his interference as well.
- Dracula's Castle: In this second encounter, Isaac now wields the powerful Laser Blade and is no longer accompanied by Abel. Similar to their previous fight, he can use the same types of sword combos as Hector and frequently dodges or blocks attacks. After taking some damage, Isaac briefly becomes invulnerable and summons an Innocent Devil to assist him. He typically starts with a Crimson Bird-Type, followed by an Iytei Battle-Type, and then a Rasetz Battle-Type, each with a dark, ominous appearance. During this phase, Isaac maintains his distance and launches occasional attacks from afar. Players are advised to first focus on defeating the summoned Innocent Devil, as Isaac will return to close combat only once the devil is defeated. He will repeat this pattern of summoning a new devil after receiving more damage, continuing until the battle concludes.
Weaknesses
- Unique Weaknesses: Isaac is incredibly cocky, to the point that even though he could've killed Hector early on, he decided instead to let him build power so he can beat him[243]. Isaac has a weakness to ice elemental attacks[244].
- Innocent Devil Weaknesses: When an Innocent Devil performs a special ability, its heart energy will be consumed, when all hearts are consumed, the Innocent Devil will no longer be able to perform any actions until it acquires more hearts[245].
- Mage-Type Weaknesses: Shield works only one time[246]. Only female mages can perform twinkle star[247].
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[248]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[249], a knight who has natural holy powers[250].
Trivia
- Isaac's name functions both as a hint that all isn't quite as it seems with him, and also as a reference to a particular bit of vampire lore. Biblically, Itzhak (Isaac) was the son of Abraham, who was almost sacrificed as a test of his father's faith. The vampire folklore his name references appears in the short story "A Kiss of Judas" by Julian Osgood Field. A principal character in this story is Isaac Lebedenko, who dies and, when reborn, becomes a type of vampire known as a "Child of Judas" in order to exact revenge on a deserving enemy. Interestingly enough, Children of Judas are said to have red hair.
- His Innocent Devil, Abel, is another hint at Isaac's ultimately tragic nature and his end. Biblically, Abel was the first victim of murder. While Isaac is hardly an innocent man, he is very much a mere pawn in Dracula's game, only used as a means to an end.
- His clothing, too, is yet another hint as to his true nature. It appears as if Isaac is wearing only the remains of his former uniform. The Prelude to Revenge manga, packaged with the soundtrack sampler CD, uses Isaac's attire as a symbol of his mind unraveling. The madder he gets, the more tattered his clothing gets, until we see him in-game in purely ornamental armor bits and those strange pants. Thanks to Dracula's machinations, Isaac is only the broken pieces of the man he once was. Unfortunately, Isaac erroneously blames Hector for the destruction of his life. Curse of Darkness is very liberal with symbolism - not uncommon for Koji Igarashi, who seems to love his Easter eggs.
- Isaac and Hector together embody the "Red Oni and Blue Oni" trope. Isaac is denoted by red, and is emotional, temperamental and led by his heart. Hector, in blue, is the more logical and rational of the pair and is able to think things through, considers what he has been told, and in the end saves himself from an ill fate.
- Isaac's in-game model shares the same bone structure and animations as Hector. Also, Hector can forge both weapons used by Isaac in the two encounters: the Chauve-souris (the game's most powerful spear) and the Laser Blade (the game's most powerful long sword).
- Since his sister is Julia Laforeze, his family name is likely "Laforeze" (although Devil Forgemasters are only referred to by their first name).
Battle Records
1-2-2
- Hector - Fight[254]
- Conditions: This was their second rematch.
- Location: Cordova Town
- Note: Isaac was testing Hector to see how much of his power was restored.
- Trevor Belmont - Fight[255]
- Conditions: None
- Location: Aiolon Ruins
- Note: Isaac was ultimately losing the fight, with Hector coming in allowing him to leave, without Hector's interference, Isaac would have surely died to Trevor.

A spectacled vampire hunter confirmed this as his duty.
In front of him is a [grotesque creature] whose dreadful power can be felt. The creature appears human but the instant he looked at it, all of his body’s cells cried out in terror.
“The timing is bad, church person.”
Whilst listening to the words said by the [grotesque creature], the young hunter kept on reminding himself.

Several hundred years have passed with battles with the [dark lord] Dracula.
When suddenly, an end to it all has been foretold. 1999----- Thanks to the power of a clan in Japan, Dracula’s castle was sealed inside a [solar eclipse] to disappear forever.
However, in this world, there is no such thing as forever. [They] had understood that Dracula’s regeneration cycle ought to have ended. Indeed, people have prepared for this but will it still exist? The castle is the symbol of the chaos within humans and as long as people exist, it will not be completely sealed. - ↑ Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Bestiary No. 064
