Background
Pumpkin is a secret playable character in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. The character can be unlocked by completing Joachim Mode. Pumpkin also appears as an Innocent Devil in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Castlevania: Labyrinth of Love.
Pumpkin wields a unique sub-weapon, aptly named after itself. Unusually, this sub-weapon bypasses Death's defenses, making it the only one in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence that can be effectively used against him. True to the tradition of secret characters in Koji Igarashi's Castlevania games, Pumpkin is designed with a comedic twist—it has exceptionally low health yet possesses extraordinary super-strength, blending humor with its formidable power.
Appearance
The Pumpkin Innocent Devil represents the base form of the optional Pumpkin-Type family. While it has the potential to evolve into various forms, it remains notably weak, even when leveled extensively. Its primary benefit lies in the significant stat boost it provides to Hector, making it a valuable support companion despite its limited combat prowess.

Is a Creature of the Night, which gives:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[26], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[27]), Intimidation (Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[28]), Immortality (Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[29]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Creatures of the Night can continue to exist even as a spirit and use their spirit form to form bodies out of inanimate material around them[30]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[31]. With their souls being completely free from time[32]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[33]), Free Will (Creatures of the Night do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[34]), Empowerment (Creatures of the night are empowered by the night[35], becoming stronger when it's night time[36]), Evolution (Creatures of chaos can inherit evil natures[37] awakening into stronger enemies with new abilities and less weaknesses[38]), Resurrection (Self-Resurrection; Creatures of chaos can be brought back to life from the power of hate[39]. This has also been shown with slain heads reviving as an angry wraith[40]), Regeneration (Mid-Godly overtime; Even the castle from Castlevania is a Creature of Chaos[41], where they are always rebirth from Chaos with each rebirth, the creatures takes a new form[42], with this state being referred to as a "regeneration cycle"[43]), Invisibility (Creatures of Chaos possess a natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[44]), Time Manipulation (Passive; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[45]), Darkness Manipulation & Subjective Reality (Creatures of chaos very existence causes dark powers to flow beyond the control of the Elgos' grimoires, due to them collecting documented information on Dracula and his castle. Causing their power to materialize in the real world in the form of monsters[46]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[47], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[48]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[49]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[50]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[51], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[52], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[53], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[54]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[55]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[56], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[57]), Law Manipulation (Creatures of Chaos can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[58]), Power Modification (Creatures of the night alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[59]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[60]).
Resistance to Dracula's Castle (Can move around in and fight in Dracula's Castle back when it was owned by Walter[100] and alongside Hector[101])

Metaphysical Interaction; The Vampire Killer can interact with the creaturEs of the night[155] which includes[156] ghosts[157]. This is also shown in Haunted Castle Revisited[158]. Power Nullification; Julius sealed the Vampire Killer within Dracula's castle in order to rip away Dracula's soul and magic[167]. Energy Nullification; Should be comparable to other magical whips that have been used to negate Dracula's Demonic Megiddo[168]. The Vampire Killer can nullify energy projectiles through hitting them[169], even those from Dracula[170]. Can negate fire projectiles[171]. Electricity Nullification; Can completely disperse and nullify electricity attacks[172]. Seal & Forcefield Nullification; The Vampire Killer can easily break open barrier seals[173]. Transformation Nullification; Christopher with the Vampire Killer injured Dracula so bad to the point that he was unable to transform back into "human" form[174]. Abstract Nullification; The Vampire Killer can nullify and destroy the scythes from Death, who can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[175]. Death decides who lives and who dies[176]. Pain Immunity Nullification; The Vampire Killer can make the White Dragon visibly react to pain[177] and scream out in pain, where it is an immortal being immune to pain and suffering[178]), Regeneration Negation (Holy; Christopher with the Vampire Killer injured Dracula to the point that his powers were greatly depleted and he was unable to do things like simply transform back into "human" form[179]. Juste with the Vampire Killer could permanently kill Dracula's Wraith to where he'll fade from the world for good who regenerated from the complete destruction of his body[180]), Immortality Negation (Ageless & Life and Death Immunity; The Vampire Killer can render immortal skeleton death gods like Death, mortal, having him bleed from attacks, giving him mortality as shown when Death dies to his own scythe cutting off his head and having blood spurt out, something not possible as a skeleton[181]. The Vampire Killer can kill Death to the point that he requires Mathias to survive in order for him to rise from the dead[182]. Death is a being unconstrained by mortality[183]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Can harm and kill anything related to vampires, even if they are a divine being[184]), Resurrection Bypassing (The Vampire Killer can kill zombies[185], who are corpses brought back to life from the power of hate[186]), Purification (The Vampire Killer can purify people who was turned into a monster[187]. Christopher with the Vampire Killer purified his son of the evil effects of Dracula[188]), Fire Manipulation (Enemies fade into fire upon being struck with the Vampire Killer[189]. Enemies burst into flames when struck by the vampire killer, with the flames attaching to anything it's connected to, such as a spider having its webs burst into flames too[190]. The whip can have fire burst around the enemies even without them dying[191]. Causes even objects like coffins to burst into flames[192]. This is even shown in Lament of Innocence, once Leon has the vampire killer[193]. This is even shown in graphic novels such as Belmonts Legacy[194]), Explosion Manipulation (Trevor swinging the whip at the ground caused the ground to explode[195]), Memory Manipulation & Soul Manipulation (The Vampire Killer holds the souls of the many Belmonts who once wilded it[196], the Vampire Killer could also possibly hold the souls of Belmonts who have not even touched it yet, as it was originally planned to have it summon Julius from the future but they ultimately didn't go with the idea), Lifeforce Absorption (Even if the The Vampire Killer accepts one as its master, it still chips away at one's life force with every lash[197]. One must sacrifice their lifeforce in order to wield it[198]), Deconstruction (The Vampire Killer can reduce one to just a skeleton[199]), Light Manipulation (The Whip can create orbs of light to light up torches[200])
Resistance to Attack Reflection (The Vampire Killer can harm Dracula with attacks where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[201]), Mimicry (Doppelganger is unable to mimic the vampire killer during[202] the time of Lament of Innocence[203])

Pose
Pose is an Innocent Devil ability featured in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It is exclusively used by all Pumpkin-Type Innocent Devils. This ability does not require any Hearts to cast, but it is considered the least effective ability in the game in terms of combat. Despite its utility in no resource consumption, it offers minimal impact during battles, making it largely useless in practical terms. All Pumpkin does with this skill is several poses.Other
Standard Tactics: Pumpkin due to its sheer nature as a childish pumpkin being is a wild card, using whatever it feels like doing.
Weaknesses
- Creature of the Night Weaknesses: Creatures of the night become weaker when exposed to the morning sun[276]. Garlic significantly weakens creatures of the night[277], and causes demons to die if its placed on the ground[278]. If a vital soul is defeated, the grimoire will revert back to its original content[279].
- Innocent Devil Weaknesses: When an Innocent Devil performs a special ability, its heart energy will be consumed, when all hearts are consumed, the Innocent Devil will no longer be able to perform any actions until it acquires more hearts[280].
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[281]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[282], a knight who has natural holy powers[283]. Corrupted enemies such as Charlie Vincent, use holy water attacks on Carrie and Reinhardt[284]. Characters like Jonathan Morris wear armor like the Holy Mail, an armor that reduces damage from holy attacks[285].
Trivia
- If Pumpkin stands still, it will hum Joachim's theme song, Melancholy Joachim.
- Pumpkin's dying cries are actually Joachim's cries in the English voice setting, only sped up. This happens in both games for the PlayStation 2, regardless of the voice language setting.
- Pumpkin reappears in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Castlevania: Labyrinth of Love (pachinko game) as an Innocent Devil.
- The Pumpkin Mace also refers to him, describing him as a "legendary hero"[286]. This would imply that his section in Lament of Innocence has some continuity to it.
- Pumpkin also inspired the Pumpkin Head equipment item.
- The description of the Pumpkin Mace in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness refers to a "legendary hero". This is obviously a reference to the character Pumpkin from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, who was the third playable character unlocked.
- Pumpkin wears the Prince's Clothes.
- Pumpkin-Types are adapted from the character of the same name from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, and is described as an "legendary hero"[287] in Curse of Darkness.

And ----- there is no reason to perform that.” - ↑ Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "Those scythes constructed by magic did not turn towards Olrox or Michelle, every scythe then gathered near the youth’s body.
Then, those numerous blades made from magic overlapped with each other and with a powerful atrocious magic constructed a Death scythe in Death’s arm.
“This false castle……You shall fall into chaos as a thing that denies the existence of the [lord]……[death] shall pass judgment on your sins!”
Sensing the overwhelming existence of [death], Olrox again realized that the youth in front of him is [Death]------laughed out loud.

However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children." - ↑ Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "A drawbridge suspended from the main gate is seemingly welcoming Michelle’s arrival.

That really is no doubt an obsession.
The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness.
“Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
However-----
Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul." - ↑ Castlevania: Curse of Darkness Bestiary No. 115

Hammer sensed that the air between the two suddenly felt heavy so he laughed out while holding a weapon.
It was a whip that was soaked in blood in some places.
“I picked this up at the garden and I believe this is yours, right? Old man Julius also uses a whip. I came here just to deliver this to ya.”
Whoosh, receiving the thrown whip, Michelle noticed that it was the magical whip that serves as Curtis’ weapon.
“That’s great……! Curtis! With this your power-----“
In order to shake away the confusion she had a while ago, Michelle raised her voice, but-----
“Sorry, but…… with my current self, I could not handle it.”
“……? What are you talking about? Curtis……”
was he still confused, Michelle made him grip his whip.
Snap, some kind of popping sound rang and Michelle felt a light shock in her arm.
“Uh……!?”
What happened, she directed her eyes on the origin of the shock-----
A part of the whip’s handle had a rotten like disintegration-----
A part of Curtis’ hand was burned, and that skin immediately returned back to as before.
----- No way……
“Curtis……?”
“……I am currently weak at holy magic.”

- ↑ Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
“……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
Kill the distance-----
Kill the sound-----
Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
“……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood." - ↑ Castlevania Judgment Death True Story Mode
