Before Making a Profile

For those wanting to make a profile, welcome. The way profiles are made here for newer members requires one to make the profile in their own User. To do this, simply put the profile you're working on in a profile title [User:YourUserName/WhateverTextYouWantToPutHere], an example can be found here. Please follow all of these rules. Do note if profiles don't meet the quality standards they will be deleted.

The Rules

Source

A source is essentially evidence to a claim made, in this community they're frequently referred to as a "scan". The actual idea of a scan is an image formed by scanning something, this is normally related to objects such as a comic book scene or a manga scene. An example for a source: if you note in that a character destroyed a wall, you would link the scene in question of them destroying the wall under the explanation. The link to the scene is the scan. Scans are completely mandatory and should be within most parts of the profile, for a good idea of what a profile with scans should look like, click here. A good rule of thumb is if you're giving an explanation for something, there should be a scan behind it. A characters age should normally be sourced, it is a commonly searched upon thing and randomly guessing a character's age doesn't help and only creates misinformation. Along with this if one is adding height or weight to a profile it must only be OFFICIAL height and weight measurements listed in the verse and they must have a source behind them. It is also more preferable if you proceed to explain in-depth a scene or ability to make a user who has never seen the verse you’re making a profile for have context and understanding. A good way to look at it is treat anyone reading your profile as if it's their first time ever reading.

Some things that don't directly require scans but are nice to give scans for are a characters titles, name,

Sites One Should Use for Sources

A common mistake people do is while reading a manga or comic grabbing a scan from the link of the manga site itself or opening the specific manga panel as a new image and linking that. Examples:

The reason for this is because manga sites like these are illegal and will eventually get shut down, along with this means the loss of the scans on the profile as they’ll just link to broken links. The other reason is, fandom does not allow links to illegal manga sites, so when attempting to edit a profile, the edit will be stopped due to fandom seeing manga links. There is a solution however.

Instead of linking to manga sites, one should take all the associated images (with context behind them and the chapter they come from so one can read themself to find the context), and put them on sites such as imgur, imgbb, or your google drive. One can also upload all the associated images onto Special:NewFiles.

Faked Evidence

Faked evidence is a very serious offense in which someone uses evidence not apart of the true source material to try and add onto the profile. Not properly sourcing and purposefully putting fake evidence on the profile will result in an immediate ban as it goes against what we stand for as an indexing wiki. If done by accident, no punishment will occur though it is important to make sure to look out for if a source is fake or not. Mistranslations fall into this too, if one is knowingly using mistranslations to change something on a page then this will also result in an instant ban.

What if the series in question is impossible to get a link for?

Series like these tend to exist, such as series on Netflix, for this you can do one of two options.

The easier option is to simply use the reference command fandom gives. To do this, simply do the following: Claim the feat that happened here. <ref>The show, episode number, and name of the episode here</ref>

For movies, you would do the same thing, though you'd also add the timestamp and if the time stamp is impossible, then give a name for said scene, examples for this can be found here and here. You can also link a transcript and put the exact dialogue of the scene <ref>The movie, potentially a quote to a specific scene being noted here</ref>.

Then above Gallery or Other put <references/> . Here is an example of a profile that uses references.

The other option is to either download the video or directly screen record the clip in question and upload it to a video hosting site that will allow it. For media that won't be copyrighted, it is safe to upload it to youtube, however for clips that are copyrighted and will most likely not make it through youtube, it is more prefreable to upload the footage to your google drive.

Scans regarding fully written media

If you cannot get the specific links for scenes from novels it is advised to either put the quotes from the book in the Explanations section of the profile with the name of the book, along with the chapter and page this quote comes from, or post the section onto sites like pastebin. Again, it should note the name of the book and the chapter & page the quote comes from. Another thing you can do is once again, using references. For references in novels, one would do the following: <ref>The novels name, the chapter, the page (if possible), the specific quote from the excerpt</ref>.

The same idea works for interview scans too, while linking the interview alone is fine, it is much more preferable to add a reference to quote the specific part of the link you're showing.

Screenshots from guidebooks

As guidebooks are pretty hard to come across people tend to just take a quick screenshot from one without noting the page number or at least the name of the guidebook in question. In order to use screenshots from a guidebook, the source MUST be properly cited and referenced, this includes the guidebooks name, the page it's on and if possible, an ISBN number.

Conclusion

Sources are a top priority for profiles, if there are no sources on the profile, the profile will be immediately deleted. Please be sure to properly cite and source everything you're writing.

General Information

While initially the wiki was a powerscaling one, it has developed into a complete indexing wiki with powerscaling elements put into a singular section. Thus one should put as much effort into the general information of a character as they should for the powerscaling section of a character. The profile should be made as a full on report of the character rather then just "how strong are they".

Battle Records

Initially the Battle Records section was used for Versus Threads, but it has been agreed upon by the community that versus threads do not make sense to be on the profile as profiles are meant to index official things, while versus threads are fan-made interpretations of who would win or not in a fight. Thus they have been put into the fun and games section for the discord. Now Battle Records are used to list official canon fights within a series and list where a character won or lost. With a tally mark on the top that lists the amounts of wins, loses, inconclusive, and potential unknowns they have. For characters that have never lost or inconned and have more then 1 win, they will get the Undefeated Characters category, for characters who have more then 1 loss with no win or inconclusive, they will get the category, as a reference to the slang used in professional wrestling.

Plagiarized Profiles

These are notable profiles that are exact copy-pastes of other wikis such as making a page a complete copy of another wikis page. For example, if our The Knight profile was exactly the same as this The Knight profile, this includes things like powers and abilities having the same wording, stats having the exact same wording ,and things that make it very clear one just copied it from a page. This is completely disallowed with the profile will being deleted and the user will receiving strike. Things that are not normally considered plagiarism is taken experts from official fan wikis for characters histories, notable attacks, or getting official in-game stat sheets from wikis, such as the Megaten Wiki. These are fine as a character's history cannot exactly be re-written completely differently, they're normally an objective report of what's happened, the same with a notable attack and in-game stats, thus re-wording these while allowed, isn't required. Another way the profile is fine is if it's a profile being ported over from another wiki that the user originally made or greatly edited and it fits The Codex's layout. Do note exact copy pastes of entire profiles are disallowed.

Scaling

Scaling, alternatively known as powerscaling. Powerscaling is fine to use in conjunction with feats as long as it meets a fine consistency and doesn't fall under the following, PIS, Outlier, or Inconsistency. There should also be no circular scaling. Circular scaling is the act of scaling a character to another for scaling to the former character with no feats to justify it. An example would be A is 7-B for scaling to B, then one clicks on B and B is 7-B for scaling to C and then one clicks on C and C is 7-B for scaling to A, thus no true reason actually exists.

Possibly/Likely/At Least/Far Higher

As the Attack Potency page notes: "+" symbol Currently misused to an extraordinary degree on the wiki, the "+" symbol should only be used when the Attack Potency has been calculated to be greater than the average (arithmetic mean) of the high end energy level and low end energy level of a particular tier.

Example: Average of Large Building level is: [2 Tons (low end) + 11 tons (high end)]/2 = 6.5 Tons (the arithmetic mean). All energy levels from 2 Tons to 6.5 Tons should be listed as Large Building level, whereas all energy levels from 6.5 Tons to 11 Tons should be listed as Large Building level+.

High Currently used to denote high end of a particular tier, it will here-on no longer be utilized in that manner. "High" will be utilized only if the instance matches with the revised Attack Potency chart.

Example: If a character is in the upper range of a tier such as Solar System level, said character will be listed as "Solar System level+", not "High Solar System level".

Low Currently used to denote low end of a particular tier, it will here-on no longer be utilized in that manner. "Low" will be utilized only if the instance matches with the revised Attack Potency chart.

Example: There should be no usage of "Low 7-A", because it does not correspond with the revised Attack Potency chart.

At least Should be used to denote the lower cap of a character, if the exact value is indeterminate.

At most Should be used to denote the higher cap of a character, if the exact value is indeterminate.

Likely Should be used to list a hypothetical statistic for a character, but inconclusive due to lack of feats or viable power-scaling. Probability of said hypothetical statistic should be favourable.

Possibly Should be used to list a hypothetical statistic for a character, but inconclusive due to lack of feats or viable power-scaling. Probability of said hypothetical statistic should also be indeterminate.

Composite profile rules

Do not use any fanfiction or fan made feats. Use versions of the character that are officially licensed and have the creators approval.

Example: DIC Link feats could be used as part of a composite Link profile as it’s an officially licensed form of media for Zelda, just not a canon form.

Mature Content Rating Scale

The Mature Content Rating Scale is used to define what material falls under the mature content template. As this website is a place for people of all ages, user discretion is advised when viewing verses with these ratings attached. It should also be noted NSFW content/images is not allowed at all on the site and will promptly be deleted and get you banned if it's posted.

The following is the rating scale:

Level 1: Everyone 10+ to Teen/PG to PG-13 - Verses with excessive fan service, hints to drugs/alcohol use, dark imagery, some swearing, and allusions to murder & other mature concepts. While not overtly mature, verses may depict scenes, show images, or show concepts not suitable for a younger audience. Being at a level 1 normally does not require a mature content rating though it could be discussed if the verse that falls under this really needs one.

Examples: A Hat in Time, Mother 3, Some Marvel and DC storylines

Level 2: Teen to possibly Mature/PG-13 to possibly R - Verses with mild sexual content, graphic violence, excessive swearing, underage drug usage/alcohol usage, etcetera. Images depicted may include completely topless scenes with females, death with some blood and gore, excessive swearing that goes beyond using the word “damn”. Level 2’s normally have the mature content rating but they could possibly not get one depending on how truly graphic the material is.

Examples: Grenadier, Scott Pilgrim, Strange Men

Level 3: Mature/R - Verses with shown or heavily descriptive sexual conduct, extremely gory deaths, massive swearing, etcetera. Images depicted may contain full on sexual scenes, possibly uncomfortable material, organs and such being shown, or heads exploding, and swearing that goes even into the highest territories. Level 3’s get mature content without argument.

Examples: Misao, Kingsman, Press the B Button, Stupid!, Megami Tensei
