Introduction

The following is a list of common terms that are used within the wiki. Each one has been categorized for easy use.

Terms

A

• Alignment: The morality alignment a character falls under.

• Alt: Generally referred to as an “alternative account” , can also be called a “sockpuppet” or a “sock”. This is when a previously banned user makes another, differently named, account, to try to return to the wiki. Ways to detect alts is by noticing what the person’s general interests are, and noticing similar attitudes towards certain characters/verses. It should be noted that making an alt is worthy of an immediate ban and all users should report all identified alts to the Rule Violation Thread if they begin causing issues for other users, Staff, or the community at large.

• AoE: An abbreviation for Area of Effect. Generally used to describe the magnitude of area covered by an attack.

• Attack Potency: Destructive Capacity is the term used to determine the amount of damage a character can produce. It is measured in units of energy. An alternative term for Destructive Capacity which has more direct meaning: The Destructive Capacity that an attack is equivalent to. A character with a certain degree of attack potency does not necessarily need to cause destructive feats on that level, but can cause damage to characters that can withstand such forces. Also, kindly remember that Attack Potency is the measure of Destructive Capacity of an attack, and as such, is measured via its energy damage equivalent. Hence, characters that destroy mountains or islands are not automatically mountain or island level, especially if they are small. The attack potency depends upon the energy output of the attack, not the area of effect of the attack.

C

• Classification: What a character, object, or being classifies as. This can range from their gender identity, to popular titles they have.

• Composite: A character that combines the abilities and items from different officially licensed versions to make a single character profile. Often used for fun in various versus threads, not allowed as an actual profile unless it's a canon concept.

D

• Databook: A databook is a book containing statistics for various fictional characters outside of their work. This is usually done to provide extra info and backstory to characters and explain the various details and bring in more worldbuilding that the author didn’t have time for in their work. Most databooks are considered secondary canon.

• DB/DBZ/DBS: Frequently used abbreviations for Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super. The former is often used to refer to the franchise as a whole. DB is also an abbreviation for Death Battle, a prominent web show that is well known across VS forums.

• DCEU: An abbreviation for DC Extended Universe franchise.

• Dimension: Varies in meaning, it could either refer to a spatial dimension, otherwise known as a dimension of space, a temporal dimension, which is a time dimension, or alternate universes/pocket dimensions.

• Dimensionless Existence: A state of being unbound or beyond all known dimensions and levels of space and time. A beyond dimensional being is beyond such things as distance and time.

• Downplay: The act of undermining various feats or statements or not acknowledging it. This is similar to the concept of “wank” but instead of increasing character statistics to overblown proportions, it tends to do the opposite and make a character or verse seem weaker to overblown proportions.

• Durability: Durability is the property which guarantees the ability to withstand a certain amount of force. This is not to be confused with endurance; while durability is the ability to withstand damage, endurance is a measure of stamina. Logically, characters capable of physically achieving a certain degree of energy output, must be able to at least withstand a comparable amount of damage, or their bodies would break apart from the strain and automatic counterforce, whenever they exert themselves.

F

• FE: An abbreviation for Fire Emblem.

• Feat: When a character performs a accomplishment, this can range from physical strength, speed, ability, agility, business accomplishments, etcetera.

• FF: An abbreviation for Final Fantasy.

• Filler: Filler is generally entries in a generally continuous serial that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space. This could be considered Padding (the addition of scenes to lengthen a story) applied to a whole franchise by creating brand new episodes, extra unnecessary panels, unnecessary fetch quest in video games, etcetera.

• FMA: An abbreviation for Fullmetal Alchemist.

• FT: An abbreviation for Fairy Tail.

• FTL: An abbreviation for “Faster than Light”.

G

• Glass Cannon: Referring to a character that has a very high Attack Potency stat but very low Durability.

H

• Hax: Informal word to refers to abilities that often ignore conventional durability and levels of power, allowing users to overwhelm characters who would normally exceed them in terms of raw strength.

• HST: Short for “Holy Shonen Trinity”, it is an informal abbreviation frequently used to collective refer to three of the most popular shonen manga of the mid 90s and early 2000s: Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece.

J

• JJBA: An abbreviation for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

L

• LOTR: An abbreviation for the Lord of the Rings franchise.

• LS: An abbreviation for “Lightspeed”.

M

• MCU: An abbreviation for Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.

• Metaverse: A reality of a higher hierarchal order than a multiverse with 11 layers of hierarchal transcendence.

• MM: An abbreviation used to describe the Mega Man franchise or its title character. Could also be an abbreviation for the game The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

O

• Occupation: Essentially a characters job or career.

• OHK: Stands for “One Hit KO” which means that a character or weapon has an ability to instantly defeat their opponent with a single strike.

• Omniverse: The totality of a fictional cosmology. Comes from the prefix “Omni” which means “all” and the root word “verse” which means “word”. Thus being all of the world. This varies depending on the fictional cosmology and is thus not used.

• OP: Can either stand for "overpowered," an abbreviation for One Piece, or refer to the "original poster" of a thread/topic.

• OPM: An abbreviation for One Punch Man.

• Outlier: An outlier is an observation that lies an abnormal distance from other values in a random sample from a population. In versus sites an outlier is typically a single feat that is completely out of the lines of the characters other feats.

P

• Peak: The strongest version of a character.

• Plot-Induced Stupidity: Often abbreviated as "PIS". Events in a story that contradict a character's normal capabilities for the purpose of the plot.

• Potent: How powerful an ability or resistance is.

• Preparation Time: Prep, Prep Time or Preparation Time, is a period of time that allows one or both characters in a match to: build a weapon/device that will help defeat their opposition, research their opposition to learn their strengths and weaknesses, or to come up with a strategy that will help defeat the opposition.

R

• Retcon: Retroactive Continuity, a retcon reframs past events to serve a current plot need. The ideal retcon clarifies a question alluded to without adding excessive new questions. In its most basic form, this is any plot point that was not intended from the beginning. The most preferred use is where it contradicts nothing, even though it was changed later on.

S

• Smurf: Term used to a character that has hax in a far higher tier then their regular statistics.

• SOL: An abbreviation for "Speed of Light". Could in far fewer cases also be referring to the “Speed of Lightning”.

• SS: A frequently used abbreviation for the Saint Seiya franchise. It is also sometimes used instead of "Solar System". It is also sometimes used to ask for a screenshot.

• Status: The status of a character or species, whether they're alive, dead, undead, other, or unknown.

• Stonewall: Refers to a character who has immensely high Durability far above their Attack Potency.

T

• TLOZ: An abbreviation for The Legend of Zelda franchise.

• TTGL/STTGL: Abbreviations of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann respectively as well as their series of origin.

W

• Wank: A derogatory term used to describe something that inflates a character or verse statistics to massive levels over faulty logic or vague evidence.

• Word of God: Often abbreviated as "WOG" or "WoG." Author, or editorial, statements about a certain franchise, and/or its characters. However, take note that if this heavily contradicts, rather than complements, reliable in-story statements or feats, we tend to disregard them.
