Introduction

Powerscaling is a method used to determine one character's statistics through their bouts with other characters with their own statistics.

The logic behind powerscaling works much that of transitive relation. In which if A > B and B > C, then A > C.

This method is used to scale characters who are virtually featless or have little feats to someone who has feats, allowing us to properly gauge their statistics.

An example of this is if Bob is capable of destroying a wall, and then Samantha fought and defeated Bob thus making her stronger, then it is safe to say that Samantha can also destroy a wall.

There are many that try to argue powerscaling shouldn’t be used, though this kind of thought process is blatantly nonsensical. Without powerscaling and going purely by feats, many characters would end up being incapable of being properly gauged in stats. Or in worse scenarios be lowballed to absurd extents. Such as Enerjak avatars being weaker then a lot of Archie Sonic characters going purely feats.

Obviously, one shouldn’t fully only focus on powerscaling as a character could have consistently lower feats that contradict their powerscaling, which is why there should be a necessary balance between powerscaling and feats instead of completely dismissing one or the other.

Do also note that powerscaling does not only require one to beat the other but just show any form of harm to the opponent.

Examples of Powerscaling

Bob destroyed the planet and withstood it. Samntha was capable of harming Bob. This would be fine to allow Samntha to have Planet level Attack Potency even if she herself didn’t destroy a planet.

It is also viable if it extends to a further scaling chain. For example: Bob destroyed the planet, Samantha harmed Bob, but then Diego easily defeated Samantha. Due to the fact that Samntha has shown to be capable of harming someone with Planet level Attack Potency and Diego was capable of harming her, he’d by extension get Planet level Attack Potency.

Do also note that "Attack Potency" is the energy a character can output and how powerful their attacks are, not how much one can destroy or the area of effect one's attacks hold. So Samantha nor Diego need to destroy the planet in order to have Planet level Attack Potency if Bob has already distributed it and they can harm him. If we were to argue otherwise we would need to downgrade characters like Goku for never destroying the planet.

Powerscaling does not only apply to Attack Potency however, it can also apply to Speed.

Brian has a Massively Hypersonic speed feat where he easily dodged lightning. Drake then proceeds to outpace Brian. Through this we can conclude Drake is also Massively Hypersonic.

As brought up with Attack Potency this does not require Drake to completely blitz or be faster than Brian in order for him to scale, as long as he can keep up with Brian he can scale.

Powerscaling is also something that does not have to be directly shown, a reliable statement can also prove one’s rating. If Matt destroyed a mountain and John was stated to be superior to Matt by a reliable source, we can safely conclude John scales to Matt and has Metropolis level Attack Potency.

Powerscaling can also extend to one’s intelligence. For example:

If Kain has Genius Intelligence intelligence due to their extreme skill in combat and Luthor outskills them in combat, Luthor can be given Genius Intelligence intelligence. Do note this is a case by case basis as if Luthor beat him through just shooting him while Kain is a martial arts master, that wouldn’t prove Luthor is a martial arts master. Nor would it prove he has Genius Intelligence intelligence unless he’s directly stated to be skilled with the gun or has shown skills feats with the gun.

A common misconception is that if one scales to another due to physically beating them in a battle, they would thus scale to their lifting strength. This is not the case. The only way they would scale to their lifting strength is if they show they can physically wrestle and grapple with the character. For Example:

Bob lifting 50 tons and then being punched out by Samantha would not give Samantha the ability to lift 50 tons. However, if Samantha physically grappled Bob and pushed him down and he was incapable of getting out of the grapple then Samantha would scale to his lifting strength.

Another thing to note is that regardless of how more powerful physically one is to another that should never be a reason for them to scale to the adversaries abilities. For example:

Henry can telekinetically lift objects and Maverick is more powerful than him, if this is referring to physicals then Maverick would not scale to Henry’s abilities, however if it’s the case where both characters are mages that have studied the same arts and Maverick is noted as a more powerful mage, then it can be assumed as a possibility, that he’d have Henry’s telekinesis abilities.
