Introduction
A common term utilized when discussing fights is “outside help”. Outside help is the act of a character receiving help outside of their own abilities from other characters or places. What’s considered outside help varies greatly on what people perceive it as.
Impact
Outside Help can greatly turn around a lot of factors. Such as a situation where a character is about to lose but they are saved in the last second by an ally they didn't expect being the most normal example of it. This greatly impacts a fight as it allows the underdog to win, or in cases it can save someone who was about to die, allowing them to escape and fight another day. Outside Help should normally be mentioned in battle records as apart of the explanation for how the character won or loss a fight.
For Fun and Game Versus Threads
For our fun and game Versus Threads, outside help is a factor and under the Standard Battle Assumptions, we do not allow it, though we have rules for what constitutes as outside help and what doesn't. The following is considered outside help:
- A character of either verse, aside from those participating in the battle, influencing the outcome of the battle in any way if they are not brought via an ability (I.E. Blessed, calling upon some higher entities power for a spell, summoning familiars to battle for them, having another character as equipment, or having protection from the outside source in question).
- A character calling a friend to join and them appearing not due to the character’s abilities but physically coming there themself. Such as calling a character on the phone and then appearing through driving to the battlefield.
- Two characters fighting and cops or other people around during SBA attempting to interfere with the match by shooting the characters.
- Battles that take place in time periods where there’s constant explosions or nukes dropped. For example if one were to have the battle take place in 1942 Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
- A tactician running away and baiting to an ambush outside of his own abilities or equipment.
The following isn’t considered outside help:
- A character being given abilities by a higher being. Such as Truth of the Universe protecting Ness along his journey and manipulating fate or Pit being given abilities by Palutena.
- A character summoning another character.
- Outside characters that are used to provide information to their character (I.E. Ottacon talking to Snake via codec calls, Navi giving Link the enemies weakness) are also allowed as they’re both accessed through a character’s Equipment, such as Snake’s codec and Navi being a part of Link’s Equipment.
- Those who use characters to fight, such as the Pokemon trainers.
- Characters that are a part of a character’s Equipment, such as Pikmin with Olimar or Alvis with Shulk.
- Characters being protected by another source. Such as Hat Kid being protected by The Snatcher.
