Background
Samus Aran is an intergalactic bounty hunter and the protagonist of the Metroid series.
The daughter of Rodney Aran and Virginia Aran, she lost her parents during a Space Pirate raid on her home of K-2L. Later, Samus was adopted by the mysterious Chozo and taken to Zebes, where she was infused with their DNA and raised to become a warrior. Once she reached adulthood, Samus joined the Federation Police and served under the Commanding Officer Adam Malkovich. Though she ultimately left to become a Bounty Hunter, she was nonetheless hired by the Galactic Federation on many occasions. Equipped with her cybernetic Power Suit, Samus has become famous for accomplishing missions previously thought impossible. Her most renowned achievements are the destruction of the Space Pirate base on Zebes, her role in ending the Galactic Phazon crisis, her extermination of the Metroid species, and her disobedience of orders at the Biologic Space Laboratories research station where she chose to destroy the deadly X Parasites rather than turn them over to the Galactic Federation.
Samus broke ground early in the gaming world when she debuted in the 1986 game Metroid. Originally players were under the impression that Samus was a male, as even the instruction booklet suggested this. However, completing Metroid in under five hours revealed Samus to be a young woman. Although Samus wears the Power Suit throughout most of the Metroid series, she traditionally removes it at the end of most games, often as a result of satisfying certain conditions such as completing the game quickly or with a high percentage of the game's items collected or even both.

Can permanently destroy zeebetites, which regenerate through molecule transference making them incapable of regenerating back. Low-Godly, possibly Mid-Godly. Permanently killed Ridley who regenerated from the complete destruction of his body and possibly his soul as Omega Ridley. Permanently killed Dark Samus who can regenerate as long as phazon exists), Limited Physics Manipulation (Can move in water like she’s on land with the gravity suit), Resistance to Acid Manipulation & Heat Manipulation (The Varia suit protects from acid and heat, the gravity suit stops lava damage), Lifeforce Draining (Can break out of the metroid’s lifeforce drain)
All previous powers and abilities, Homing Attack, Extrasensory Perception & Information Analysis (With the combat visor, gives her the basic feedback she needs to survive. It monitors her energy levels, all ammunition remaining, danger levels, and gives her feedback from the environment to pinpoint any anomalies to send her in the right direction. When enemies appear, they are surrounded by a reticle However, the Combat Visor only sees things in this dimension; therefore objects outside the visible spectrum or interdimensional objects cannot be seen. The scan visor, Samus can scan certain objects to learn more about them or perform a function. When a scan has finished, the game action freezes to allow Samus to read its contents. If Samus scans a creature, enemy or boss, Samus will gain useful hints on how to beat them, such as weak spots and behavioral patterns. Her morph ball bombs can home and attack themselves onto an enemy), Enhanced Senses (Can detect the Shadow Pirates who use invisibility cloaks to sneak attack. The Thermal Visor uses thermography, allowing Samus Aran to locate enemies or objects by their heat signatures. It can be used to see Shadow Pirates and is also useful in total darkness, extreme cold, and in poor weather conditions, like those in Phendrana Drifts; though it functions poorly in superheated areas, such as the Magmoor Caverns. The X-Ray Visor can be used to spot invisible enemies and enemies that move outside of existence, even those that don't appear to the Thermal Visor, and it also allows Samus to see through flesh (when she lifts her arm in front of the visor, the bones in her arm can be seen), Bendezium, Cordite, and Sandstone. It can also detect illusions), Data Manipulation (Can download data of areas to get maps), Energy Manipulation (With the grapple beam, creates a beam of energy to swing around), Hacking (Can hack into areas to open locked doors), Magma Manipulation, Heat Manipulation, & Deconstruction (The plasma beam’s molten energy can turn enemies to ash), Fire Manipulation (The Flamethrower is the Beam Combo for the Plasma Beam. When this beam combo is unleashed, it emits a three-meter range continuous beam of fiery plasma), Enhanced Ice Manipulation (The Ice Spreader is a Charge Combo for the Ice Beam in Metroid Prime. It uses a charged Ice Beam shot and 10 Missiles to create a powerful, homing blast of ice that can travel up to 20 meters until reaching a target. When this occurs, the shot explodes and creates a fast-spreading layer of ice over the target and surrounding area. The target and nearby enemies will either die or be frozen), Sealing (With the 12 Chozo Artifacts, which could seal away phazon), Gravity Manipulation (The gravity suit pulses gravity), Vibration Manipulation (Plasma causes seismic activity), Phazon Manipulation (With the Phazon Suit, Samus’ suit is infused with pure phazon, allowing her to also shoot attacks fused with pure phazon and can absorb phazon to infuse into her attacks, that can also heal her suit), Momentum Manipulation (With boost ball, Samus stores up momentum before releasing it all in one instant to propel herself in a specific direction), Enhanced Limited Physics Manipulation & Acrobatics (Can double jump with the space boots), Magnetism Manipulation (Can pull in beings and objects with a charged shot), Electricity Manipulation (Wave Beams are electrical energy that can kill Pulse Bombus and Scatter Bombu), Non-Physical Interaction, Soul Manipulation, & Immortality Negation (Type 7. Giving one enough phazon will allow them to survive on any planet), Biological Manipulation & Transmutation (Phazon has the power to mutate organic lifeforms, this extends to non-organic beings like machines), Madness Manipulation (Phazon induces madness), Mind Manipulation (Can degenerate one’s brain and muscle tissue), Illusion Creation (Phazon induces hallucinations), Radiation Manipulation (Phazon is a natural radiation exposure that induces all of these abilities), Life Manipulation (Phazon can give sentience to non-organic, non-sentient objects like rocks), Ice Manipulation (Phazon gave Thardus the ability of ice), Power Nullification (An explosion of phazon can overload Samus Aran’s visors), Corruption (Phazon can corrupt beings such as undead transcendent ghost, and other beings, including machines), Healing (Phazon can heal wounds), Regeneration (Varies on the level of phazon one has intake. Lower levels showing Low-Mid levels of regeneration as it can regenerate damaged tissue and organs, higher levels can regenerate from cells, to regenerating from particles, with fully fueled phazon users having up to Low-Godly to Mid-Godly, with Omega Ridley coming back from complete destruction and Dark Samus being able to regenerate as long as she has phazon), Invulnerability (Type 2. Phazon can give one invulnerability to all forms of conventional attacks), Space-Time Manipulation (Phazon caused a massive rift in space-time on Aether creating an alternate universe known as the Dark Aether), Forcefield Creation (Phazon allows one to create forcefields), Reactive Power Level (Everytime a phazon being that is defeated regenerates back, they become far more powerful), Resurrection (Phazon can resurrect a being), Possession (Phazon can possess beings altering their DNA completely in the process to fit their need), Data Manipulation & Hacking (Phazon can affect even data AI programs), Mind Manipulation (Phazon can control one's mind, keeping a being it's corrupted alive, with a will of it's own), Higher-Dimensional Manipulation (The Chozo were forced back down from the higher layers, back to the dimension in which Tallon IV laid), Dimensional Travel, Intangibility, Technology Manipulation, Soul Manipulation (Phazon gave the Chozo Ghost the ability of spatially intangible beings that can travel in and out of existence, along with turning off all the technology around him. Along with phazon manipulating one’s souls), Power Absorption (Phazon amplified Metroid Prime to absorb the entire DNA of a being along with their powers), BFR (Phazon created a transdimensional flux sending one's atoms existing in both the Light Aether and Dark Aether), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Can take hits from War Wasp who have venomous stingers that can even penetrate steel), Ice Manipulation (Can break out of being frozen), Technology Mimicry (Samus’ tech cannot be properly mimic’d even by highly intelligent beings in verse who can work with phazon), Phazon Manipulation (With the Phazon Suit, Samus’ suit is infused with pure phazon, allowing the corruption/phazon radiation to not affect Samus), Homing Attack (Phazon can negate auto lock ons and homing attacks), Radiation Manipulation (Users of phazon have resisted it’s radiation that could kill the space pirates), Precognition (Phazon could skewer with and mess up the precognition and psychic abilities of the Chozo)
All previous powers and abilities minus the powers of the phazon suit, Cosmic Awareness (Her ship can scan an entire galaxy cluster. Her suit’s visors can translate telepathic messages from spectral beings), Radiation Manipulation (With the Omega Cannon, a weapon with massive gamma radiation), Data Manipulation (Can hack into areas and oversurge them), Cold Manipulation (Using a sub-zero energy core, the Judicator is capable of firing thin blasts of freezing ice. The projectiles can bounce off a limited number of objects when fired, and can either freeze or destroy most targets with a few hits. Using a charged shot unloads three ice projectiles simultaneously, the temperature of the projectile almost reaches absolute zero), Electromagnetic Manipulation (With the Volt Driver, draws energy from the planetary electromagnetic field and converts it into multi tera-watt bursts of high voltage), Matter Manipulation & Life Manipulation (Shoots a contreated beam of high density neutrinos with the shock coiler which drains the target’s health), Magma Manipulation (With Magmamaul, her weapon is powered by a hyperstatic hydrogen core, and fires cohesive projectiles of superheated magma)
All previous powers and abilities minus the phazon suit, hunter unique weapons, and elemental beams, Enhanced Cosmic Awareness (Samus’ suit can pick up on transdimensional activity), Enhanced Absorption (Can absorb the energies of the light and dark aether), Darkness Manipulation, Dimension Manipulation, & Dark Matter Manipulation (With the Dark Beam, fires strange energy similar to the native energy of Dark Aether. Normal shots resemble swirling flattened disks of this dark energy, trailed by a dark streak and globular emanations. Shots are strong but slow, and quicker enemies can dodge them. Larger concentrations cling to objects, hardening into a brittle shell on contact. Large quantities of this energy charge and open highly hazardous dimensional rifts. A charged mass of dark energy has the strange ability to encase targets, and harden into a brittle shell. The Entangler, the Charge Beam technique for the Dark Beam, exploits this quality. Firing the Entangler will encase multiple targets within a certain radius completely, immobilizing and providing the perfect opportunity to shatter the target with a single Missile, making it quite similar to the Ice Beam from Metroid Prime. This technique is highly effective for use against the troublesome Dark Pirate Commandos, and also effective when used in tandem with the charged Light Beam against Dark Grenchlers. It is not necessary to directly hit a target with the Entangler, as it will attach to any possible targets within a short radius. Targets hit with the Entangler will become "sticky" for a short time, and cause any other creatures that come into contact with this target to freeze as well, but this will only occur before the dark matter has hardened around the original target. The Entangler seems to possess 'cold' attributes, as it is capable of rendering Metroids extremely fragile to concussive weaponry, a result given by the Ice Beam as well), Light Manipulation, Deconstruction & Fire Manipulation (With the light beam, it can activate dimensional rifts on Dark Aether, and open White Hatches. It also has the ability to energize Light Crystals and Light Beacons; their dome takes on an orangeish color on the outside, while looking whiter and slightly digitized on the inside; any Ing caught within are severely damaged or even killed outright, it can go right through enemies, ignoring durability. The light beam can be charged to use the lightbuster, charged mass of light energy is powerful enough to set many enemies alight. Unlike other charged Beam shots, the Lightblast fires multiple white-hot spheres, rather than one large mass of energy, in a scattershot fashion. These spheres will home in on locked-on targets and set them on fire. It can also be charged to use the Sunburst, which creates a slow moving sphere of light that burns passing enemies and incinerates them), BFR & Void Manipulation (The Darkburst this potent blast opens a rift to a dark dimension, pulling enemies to oblivion), Lower Dimensional Interaction (With the Dark Visor Samus can she can better see through Dark Aether's poisonous haze and identify invisible and interdimensional objects and creatures, along with detecting one-dimensional objects the dark visor also allows her to interact with them), Sound Manipulation, Paralysis Inducement, & Homing Attack (With the annihilator beam, fire streams of energy that seek multiple targets and emit sonic waves that can be used on sonic-powered devices, it can be charged to fire a Disruptor shot that stuns enemies. With the Echo Visor, Samus is able to visualise sound waves to detect invisible enemies and objects), Transformation (Can transform into pure light and ride along light to reach areas faster), Space-Time Manipulation (With the sonic boom, it projects a sonic wave that distorts space and time, capable of nearly one-shotting the likes of Dark Samus in its first phase), Conceptual Manipulation (Can shoot the elements of dark and light, Light and Dark are all that makeup the Light and Dark Aether, without them the world cannot be sustained. With it also being shown that these two concepts are so conceptually tied that beings of the light world are damaged upon entering the shadow world and beings of the dark world being unable to put their physical forms into the light world), Resistance Manipulation (With the annihilator beam, Samus can negate the resistances of both the light and dark beings), Resistance to Darkness Manipulation, Poison Manipulation, Dimension Manipulation, & Dark Matter Manipulation (With the Dark Suit, takes less damage from the effects of the dark aether. The Light Suit, is fully resistant to the effects of Dark Aether, along with being invulnerable to the effects of dark water. The Dark Aether is noted as a toxic gas), and resistance to her own abilities (Can take hits from Dark Samus who has all of her abilities), Possession, Fusionism & Biological Manipulation (The Energy Transfer Module protects Samus from the Ing's possession, which fuses with one at a cellular level)
All previous powers and abilities minus the phazon suit, hunter unique weapons, light & dark suits, & dark/light beams, Summoning (Can bring her gunship to her, and can do things with it such as air strikes that one-shot enemies), Phazon Manipulation (Samus’ body now self-generates phazon with no negative effects to her health. Can unleash a massive blast of phazon at an enemy), Perception Manipulation & Statistics Amplification (Via entering hyper mode, Samus views everything as slowed down and can shoot at a faster rate along with having massively amplified attack potency in her weapons), Existence Erasure (Type 2. While in hyper mode Samus can completely erase targets from existence), Electricity Manipulation (While in hyper mode and using the hyper ball, Samus shoots out electrical energy of phazon at all enemies), Power Bestowal & Power Absorption (The Grapple Voltage allows Samus to give or take energy from beings, allowing Samus to heal herself. The Hyper Grapple allows Samus to give or take phazon from beings. Samus absorbs phazon from beings and objects increasing her power even further), Flight (With an immense amount of phazon absorbed, Samus can fly), Durability Negation (With the Nova Beam, it’s shots can go through beings with phazite, paired with the X-Ray Visor Samus is able to negate one’s durability through hitting their necessary internal organs, killing enemies in one hit), Enhanced Conceptual Manipulation (Killed Dark Samus, who is the very embodiment of phazon, with her death causing all phazon to be erased), Resistance to Elemental Manipulation, Acid Manipulation, Poison Manipulation, Extreme Heat & Fire Manipulation (With the Hazard Shield, protects against hazardous materials such as acid rain, toxic materials, fuel gel and “the elements”), Phazon Manipulation, Corruption, Mind Manipulation, & Willpower Manipulation (Samus, unlike the other bounty hunters and people affected by Dark Samus’ corruption, resists the call and is able to maintain her own will)
All previous powers and abilities minus the phazon suit, hunter unique weapons, light & dark suits, & dark/light beams, and any phazon equipment, Extrasensory Perception & Aura (With the scan pulse, Samus is enveloped in a blue orb which releases outward in a pulse, revealing Map data over a 9x9 square range around her, and breakable walls, floors or blocks within that range will begin flashing and beeping for 10 seconds), Deconstruction (Samus’ attacks can completely disintegrate an enemy), Forcefield Creation & Statistics Amplification (With the Lightning Armor, Samus has a lightning forcefield around her that absorbs all attacks from enemies Aeion is consumed anytime it prevents physical damage and it strengthens Melee Counters), Durability Negation & Plasma Manipulation (With the Wave Beam, can pass through solid objects. The plasma beam shoots concentrated beams of plasma that go through enemies), Teleportation (Not combat applicable. With teleportation stations, Samus can teleport to other teleportation stations she’s visited), Danmaku (With beam burst, Samus enhances her beam by increasing attack power and enabling rapid-fire shots), Time Manipulation (With Phase Drift, Samus slows down time for everyone except herself), Restoration (With reserve tanks)
All previous powers and abilities with the exception of Aeonian abilities, Resurrection or Healing (If Samus runs out of health a reserve tank will restore her), Non-Physical Interaction, Soul Manipulation, & Immortality Negation (Type 7. Can interact with and kill Phantoon, the consciousness of Mother Brain), Power Absorption (With Crystal Flash, Samus can absorb all of her weapons in order to heal herself completely)
All previous powers and abilities with the exception of reserve tanks
All previous powers and abilities, Limited Flight (Her jet boosters allow her to fly in the air momentarily), Resistance to Ice Manipulation (Can break out of ice potent enough to freeze the surface of the sun), Absorption (None of the Megatroids could life absorb Samus), Gravity Manipulation (Could resist gravitational crushing, along with her morph ball naturally resisting it), Matter Manipulation (Can resist her atoms disintegrating)
All previous powers and abilities with the exception of Animus powers, Enhanced Stealth Mastery (Can hide from the SA-X even when she’s near it), Enhanced Information Analysis (Samus’ ship can give her an analysis of an area to tell her exactly where an enemy is), Resistance Manipulation (The Ice Missiles can temporarily freeze SA-X who is an X-Parasite with all of Samus’ strongest abilities, which would include the Varia Suit’s resistance to ice manipulation as shown with Samus being protected from freezing within), has had her DNA infused with a Metroid’s giving her all of their abilities including: Absorption (Samus can absorb the X-parasite due to the metroid DNA inside of her. Metroids are stated to be able to absorb any form of energy), Duplication (Metroids are stated to be able to duplicate via beta rays), Resistance to Power Mimicry, Biological Manipulation, & Absorption (The X-Parasite can mimic one by absorbing their DNA completely changing their cellular structure, but due to Samus now having Metroid DNA she is completely immune), Extreme Colds (The Varia suit protects Samus from sub-zero temperatures and freezing that’s done from within)
*Morph Ball: Originally known as the “Maru Mari” which is japanese for “roll up”, the morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | Maru Mari - Get this, and Samus' body will become round, allowing entry into narrow passages. | „ |
“ | This ability allows Samus' suit to curl into ball form and navigate narrow passageways. (Press down twice) | „ |
- Long Beam: Samus' basic Power Beam normally dissipates after a short distance. With the Long Beam equipped, however, her shots are capable of traveling much farther. This upgrade also slightly increases the strength of the Power Beam. This weapon has later been merged with the regular power beam as Samus is able to shoot it as far as she wants without it dissipating.
“ | It lengthens the attacking range of your beam. It can also boost the range of the ice beam and the wave beam. Useful for attacking enemies from a distance. | „ |
“ | Obtaining this power-up increases the range of Samus' beam weapon, including the Ice and Wave Beams. This power-up allows Samus to destroy enemies from a safe distance. | „ |
- Missiles: Missiles have appeared in every single game to date in the Metroid series. They are a more powerful weapon than the normal uncharged Beam, dealing 4-5 times as much damage depending on the game, and are useful in destroying Brimstone walls, Zebetites, and Missile Blocks. The 2D side-scrolling Metroid titles feature rapid-firing missiles. In their usual form, the Missiles have a rocket shape with gray colouring and pink stripes. The total number of missiles Samus can acquire varies from game to game.
“ | When you collect one, you will receive five Missiles. You can defeat any enemies that show up with one Missile. | „ |
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.
“ | Obtaining this power-up allows Samus to charge beam energy into a single, powerful beam blast. | „ |
- Bombs: Bombs are the basic weapons for Samus Aran's Morph Ball. Although bombs are not of great use on many normal enemies, they can break certain objects and activate bomb slots. When Samus is near a detonated bomb, she will be propelled upwards. This is a Bomb Jump.
“ | Lets you set Bombs in ball form. It's good for damaging enemies on the ground and destroying rocks. | „ |
“ | After acquiring this ability, Samus can set Bombs while in Morph Ball form. In addition to damaging enemies, they can destroy some blocks and walls. Samus has an unlimited supply of them. To use them, press the B Button while in Morph Ball form. | „ |
- Plasma Beam: The Plasma has the unique capability to pierce through multiple foes, ultimately obliterating them. When combined with the Wave Beam, it becomes virtually unstoppable and extremely destructive as each shot will pass through both hostile enemies and solid material.
“ | This powerful beam can blast through multiple enemies. | „ |
- Power Grip: The Power Grip is an item received in Metroid: Zero Mission that enables Samus to grab onto ledges with her left arm. While holding onto a ledge, Samus could either pull herself up, aim and shoot or jump from one ledge to another. If the Morph Ball has been acquired, Samus could pull herself into tight spaces by automatically shifting into ball form as she enters them.
“ | The Power Grip is an item received in Metroid: Zero Mission that enables Samus to grab onto ledges with her left arm. While holding onto a ledge, Samus could either pull herself up, aim and shoot or jump from one ledge to another. If the Morph Ball has been acquired, Samus could pull herself into tight spaces by automatically shifting into ball form as she entered them. | „ |
- Ice Beam: The Ice Beam is one of Samus's signature beam weapons, it fires a potent beam that has the power to freeze most enemies. Due to Samus’ tech being superior to most other bounty hunters tech, her ice beam should be superior to the Judicator which approaches temperatures of absolute zero.
- Space Jump: The Space Jump is a highly advanced Chozo-designed movement system that allows Samus to Spin Jump repeatedly in midair.
- Speed Booster: According to the Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission Instruction Manuals, the Speed Booster allows Samus to run at "supersonic speeds." The Speed Booster, as the name suggests, will greatly increase Samus's speed whilst she runs. She also becomes invincible, as noted in the Super Metroid instruction manual.
- Hi-Jump: As indicated by the name, the Boots allow Samus Aran to jump much higher.
- Spring Ball: The Spring Ball is a power-up that allows Samus Aran to jump in Morph Ball form without Bomb Jumping.
- Varia Suit: The Varia Suit, alternatively referred to as Barrier Suit and Varia Feature, is a Power Suit upgrade. In general, the Varia Suit reduces damage taken and protects Samus Aran from extreme heat. The maximum temperature that the Varia Suit can protect against is unknown, but the Gravity Suit is generally required for some of the higher temperature liquids. The name "Varia" is a mistranslation of the word "barrier" (although the Return of Samus manual uses the correct translation), which describes its shielding properties; coincidentally, it also resembles the English words "variety" or "variable", referring to how the suit can handle a variety of temperatures, a trait demonstrated in Metroid Fusion.
- Wave Beam: The wave beam is a beam item for Samus that goes through objects and walls, effectively negating durability.
- Super Missile: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
- Screw Attack: The Screw Attack is one of Samus Aran's most iconic and powerful Power Suit upgrades. It is an advanced movement system that allows Samus to emit energy waves from points on her armor while she somersaults into the air, turning her into a rotating energy blade of destruction, making her invincible in the process.
- Zero Suit: The Zero Suit is a skintight full-body jumpsuit worn by Samus Aran underneath her Power Suit, and appears after many recent Metroid game endings, and in some parts of the games. While in this suit, Samus takes much more damage but is more agile. She is capable of grabbing and hanging from ledges and performing Wall Jumps due to her already-present superhuman acrobatic skills from her Chozo DNA and training. In lieu of the Morph Ball, Samus navigates small paths by crawling on her hands and knees. In Zero Mission and Other M she also carries the Paralyzer with her, which briefly stuns her foes with an energy blast, but must recharge between shots. It is unknown what the Zero Suit is made of, though it appears to be comprised of some sort of firm polymer that allows Samus to stretch in different positions while still holding together. It is also unknown how Samus gets into and out of it, as the suit does not have any zippers or belts. It is possible that it is removed in a similar way to the Power Suit: by deforming at Samus' will.
- Paralyzer: The Paralyzer is a weak, but still useful emergency backup weapon. It is chiefly used to stun enemies, and is equipped by Samus Aran in instances where she is unable to use her Power Suit.
- Fully Powered Suit: The Fully Powered Suit was acquired by Samus Aran in Metroid: Zero Mission. Known alternatively as the Legendary Power Suit, it was rewarded to Samus upon completion of the Ruins Test, which replaced her weaker, normal Power Suit, lost in her Gunship's crash. This Suit is bulkier than the basic suit Samus was used to, though its notable feature is the larger shoulder pads with green accents that make up the Varia's most recognizable appearance, which first appeared in Metroid II: Return of Samus. The Legendary Suit is implied to be an older model.
- Power Bomb: Power Bombs are one of Samus' most powerful weapons. They must be deployed via Morph Ball mode; a few seconds after being deployed, they detonate, destroying most enemies within a very large radius, often covering an entire screen or more. Only one power bomb can be deployed at a time. In Metroid Fusion, the blast also appears to cause a vacuum that can draw ordinary X Parasites (including ones that came from enemies killed by the blast itself) to the center of the blast. They are also capable of harming members of several Metroid strains.
*Missile Launcher: The Missile Launcher has appeared in every single game yet in the Metroid series. It is an upgrade to her Arm Cannon that reconfigures it to fire Missiles. In the Metroid Prime series, Samus must first obtain the Missile Launcher, which automatically provides a capacity of up to five missiles. Missile Expansions increase the maximum missile capacity by five, or ten in Metroid Prime Hunters. Expansions in Hunters will also fully restore her supply. There are several uses for missiles in the Prime series, and they can be combined with other weapons for special attacks, though this feature was removed in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Missiles in the first two Prime games were blue, and appeared to be energy-based. Corruption differed from the other depictions and seemingly returned to the roots of the franchise by making missiles more similar to the original designs. This difference could be explained with different origins of missiles. Energetic missiles are Chozo Tecnology and material missiles are Federation Technology Missiles in the Prime series have a slower rate of fire than the 2-D games, but offset this by having a small area-of-effect and a homing ability, although they can still miss agile targets. Some enemies can also have a jamming effect on homing missiles, causing them to become erratic and miss their target. A few Space Pirates in Corruption are equipped with specially sloped battle armor that simply deflect missile attacks, making missiles useless against them. However, once their armor is broken, they are vulnerable to missiles.
“ | Missiles fired with a lock-on will seek their targets.
Missiles can destroy objects made from Radion or Brinstone. There are Charge Combo enhancements scattered throughout the environment. They use the Missile Launcher and the Charge Beam in tandem to fire more effective blasts. Each Missile Expansion you find will increase the number of Missiles you can carry by 5. |

- Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | The Morph Ball changes your suit into a compact, mobile sphere. | „ |
“ | Like the Power Suit, the Morph Ball is modular. There are several modifications that can be added to improve performance. | „ |
“ | Weapon effect: N/A
Weapon range: N/A Weapon potential: Medium The Morph Ball is a modular upgrade to Samus Aran's Power Suit, allowing the bounty hunter to roll into a spherical shape. While in Morph Ball form, Samus can place Bombs, activate special switches and squeeze through tight spaces. Like the Power Suit itself, the Morph Ball is upgradeable via several modifications located throughout Tallon IV. |
„ |
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it. In the Metroid Prime series Samus can also use it to pull items in closer to her.
“ | Weapon effect: Features limited tractor beam capacity.
Weapon range: 3 - 10 m Weapon potential: Extreme "Chozo Technology. The Charge Beam allows Samus Aran to increase the damage and effectiveness of the Arm Cannon. After building power for a brief moment, the Charge Beam is ready to deploy. The Charge Beam is an effective weapon on its own, but it is even more useful when used in tandem with the Missile Launcher. The Charge Beam also has a limited tractor beam capacity. |

- Morph Ball Bombs: Bombs are the basic weapons for Samus Aran's Morph Ball. Although bombs are not of great use on many normal enemies, they can break certain objects and activate bomb slots. When Samus is near a detonated bomb, she will be propelled upwards. This is a Bomb Jump.
“ | The Morph Ball Bomb can be used to break cracked walls and activate certain devices.
If the Morph Ball is near a Morph Ball Bomb when it explodes, it will be popped a short distance into the air. This is called a Bomb Jump. When a Morph Ball Bomb explodes, it must be close to the enemy to be effective. The Morph Ball Bomb can easily break items made of Sandstone or Talloric Alloy. |

- Boost Ball: While in Morph Ball mode, pressing and holding the B button charges up a "boost", and letting go of the button allows Samus to speed up for a short period of time. The Boost Ball uses kinetic energy to perform its quick movements.
- Space Jump Boots: The Space Jump Boots are an upgrade for Samus' suit that work by utilising Samus' jetpack which allows Samus an extra jump in midair. This upgrade is highly useful for clearing tall gaps, or for strafing and side-stepping more efficiently.
- Wave Beam: Unlike the 2-D games the wave beam in Metroid Prime serves as an electrical attack along with having a homing feature.
- Super Missile: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Thermal Visor: The Thermal Visor uses thermography, allowing Samus Aran to locate enemies or objects by their heat signatures. It can be used to see Shadow Pirates and is also useful in total darkness, extreme cold, and in poor weather conditions, like those in Phendrana Drifts; though it functions poorly in superheated areas, such as the Magmoor Caverns. It also overloads when Thardus' weak point is revealed. When in use, the visor emits a repetitive, fast-paced, mechanistic chord.
- Spider Ball: The Spider Ball allows Samus to adhere to walls and ceilings when in Morph Ball form, thus allowing her to reach nearly anywhere.
- Wavebuster: The Wavebuster is the Charge Combo of the Wave Beam, it fires a constant stream of electricity, paralyzing the target completely.
- Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
- Grapple Beam: The Grapple Beam, also known as the Grappling Beam in Super Metroid, is a beam weapon with tethering properties. It is used to latch onto certain surfaces, allowing Samus to swing from this point and reach areas that would be otherwise unreachable without the Screw Attack or Space Jump.
- X-Ray Visor: The X-Ray Visor can be used to spot invisible enemies, even those that don't appear to the Thermal Visor, and it also allows Samus to see through flesh (when she lifts her arm in front of the visor, the bones in her arm can be seen), Bendezium, Cordite, and Sandstone. The disadvantages to the visor include its monochrome image, which can make it difficult to differentiate between several objects or enemies, and its very low visibility range. It can track enemies such as the chozo ghost who move in and out of existence.
- Ice Spreader: The Ice Spreader is a Charge Combo for the Ice Beam in Metroid Prime. It uses a charged Ice Beam shot and 10 Missiles to create a powerful, homing blast of ice that can travel up to 20 meters until reaching a target. When this occurs, the shot explodes and creates a fast-spreading layer of ice over the target and surrounding area. The target and nearby enemies will either die or be frozen.
- Plasma Beam: The Plasma Beam was the second-to-last beam acquired in Metroid Prime, and as such, apart from the Phazon Beam it is perhaps the most powerful beam weapon in the game. When charged, it could instantly incinerate some normally-resilient enemies such as Baby Sheegoths and Plated Beetles, and it could set fire to others, causing damage for a few moments after the shot hit them. It was also capable of melting Frigidite casings. The Plasma Beam's color scheme in Prime was red, and it represented the "element" of fire. It can open Red Doors as well. The Flamethrower, the Charge Combo for the Plasma Beam, was a continuous Charge Combo that shot out a stream of flame with an exceedingly short range.
“ | The Plasma Beam fires streams of molten energy. This Beam can ignite flammable objects and enemies. | „ |
- Flamethrower: The Flamethrower is the Beam Combo for the Plasma Beam. When this beam combo is unleashed, it emits a three-meter range continuous beam of fiery plasma. Being hit with this beam combo causes vulnerable enemies to ignite, taking away massive amounts of their stamina at a continuous rate.like standard Plasma Beam fire, it is capable of melting ice and setting enemies alight. It is very effective for destroying enemies in large amounts, as sweeping the Flamethrower across their ranks will dispatch them quickly and easily.
- Phazon Suit: The Phazon Suit is an upgrade to Samus Aran's Power Suit acquired in Metroid Prime. While other suit upgrades involve the incorporation of advanced technological hardware, the Phazon Suit was the inadvertent result of the Power Suit being virally corrupted by Phazon upon defeating the Omega Pirate. The Phazon Suit provided 50% damage reduction, the greatest level of defensive shielding in Metroid Prime. It also made Samus immune to radiation from blue Phazon, but offered no protection from the more lethal red Phazon strain. Finally, the suit could channel pure Phazon into itself and enter a state called Hyper-mode, which not only covered Samus' entire body with a blue aura, but also caused the emergence of blue veins on her right shoulder and radically transformed her Arm Cannon to fire the most powerful weapon in the game: the Phazon Beam.
- Phazon Beam: The Phazon Beam is an immensely powerful beam weapon that solely activates near the very end of Metroid Prime. It is the very first weapon in the series acquired by Samus Aran that is powered by Phazon. When the Phazon Suit comes into contact with liquid Phazon excreted from the Metroid Prime's core essence, the substance is channeled into her Arm Cannon, allowing her to shoot a continuous stream of destructive energy. The Phazon Beam is the only weapon that can damage the second form of the Metroid Prime, and the liquid Phazon from which the weapon draws its power from.
- Chozo Artifacts: The Chozo Artifacts are a set of twelve relics, found in Metroid Prime and its spin-off, Metroid Prime Pinball. They are essentially keys known collectively as the "Cipher", which unlock the "Cradle," a protective barrier placed around the Impact Crater to quarantine the Phazon corruption of Tallon IV.
*Missile: The Missile Launcher has appeared in every single game yet in the Metroid series.
“ | Launches explosive-tipped MISSILES that detonate in a percussive blast. This standard-issue weapon is extremely effective in dealing with biological threats. Hold the FIRE button to charge the weapon and cause the MISSILE to seek heat signatures. Charging will attract energy and ammo. | „ |
- Super Missile: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Electro Lob: The Electro Lob is a weapon only found in the multiplayer mode of Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt. It travels in an arc when fired and explodes upon contact. Anyone caught in the blast will have their visor scrambled for a short amount of time, allowing the attacker to take advantage of their confusion. It can be charged, which will cause the shots to travel straight as opposed to in an arc.
- Combat Visor: The Combat Visor is Samus Aran's basic Visor in the Prime Series, and gives her the basic feedback she needs to survive. It monitors her energy levels, all ammunition remaining, danger levels, and gives her feedback from the environment to pinpoint any anomalies to send her in the right direction. When enemies appear, they are surrounded by a reticle However, the Combat Visor only sees things in this dimension; therefore objects outside the visible spectrum, in higher dimensions, lower dimensions, or interdimensional objects cannot be seen. Other visors must be applied in those situations.
- Scan Visor: With the Scan Visor, Samus can scan certain objects to learn more about them or perform a function. When a scan has finished, the game action freezes to allow Samus to read its contents. If Samus scans a creature, enemy or boss, Samus will gain useful hints how to beat them, such as weak spots and behavioral patterns. When she activates the Scan Visor, Samus will lower her Arm Cannon and is able to view scan targets through a screen known as the Sight Window. Scanning a boss will sometimes take more time than scanning a smaller creature or object. It consults several databases as well, including the GF Database, Space Pirate Datanet and Samus' own flora and fauna databank. Though it can scan enemies and objects that are not under any of these databases giving it supernatural Information Analysis.
- Power Beam: Samus Aran's Power Beam, also known as the Normal Beam, is her basic default weapon made of Chozo technology. Readily equipped with her Power Suit, the Power Beam does little damage to powerful enemies, although it can easily clear entire rooms filled with weaker foes. The beam's projectiles consist of individual small spheres with yellow and/or orange colors flying in a straight line. Visually, they have the simplest appearance and trajectory out of all existing beam weapons. When using the Charge Beam, the projectile is noticeably larger and brighter.
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it. In the Metroid Prime series Samus can also use it to pull items in closer to her.
“ | By holding down and releasing the FIRE button, the ARM CANNON is able to fire concentrated charge bursts. | „ |
- Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | SAMUS has the ability to transform into a ball that can move at high speeds and access areas her bipedal form cannot. | „ |
“ | Small bursts of energy detonate from the MORPH BALL shortly after being triggered. Ideal for opening secret passages and eliminating small creatures. Press the FIRE button while in MORPH BALL mode to place the BOMBS. BOMB JUMPING is possible by triggering BOMBS with proper timing. | „ |
- Boost Ball: While in Morph Ball mode, pressing and holding the B button charges up a "boost", and letting go of the button allows Samus to speed up for a short period of time. The Boost Ball uses kinetic energy to perform its quick movements.
- Battlehammer: The Battlehammer is also an additional weapon system for the standard Arm Cannon. Powered by a small nuclear reactor, it is a heavy mortar-type weapon that fires green globules of energy along an arching path. It features a high rate of fire but no charge attack.
- Judicator: The Judicator is an ice-based Affinity Weapon created by the Vhozon and given to acolytes who reach the fifth level of Vhozon Codex training. Noxus' weapon of choice in Metroid Prime Hunters, it shoots supercooled plasma at near absolute zero temperatures and ricochet off impacted surfaces. When charged, it fires three shots, unless used by Noxus, in which case it can freeze enemies within a certain radius. It fires supercool plasma nearing absolute zero.
- Volt Driver: The Volt Driver is also an additional weapon system for the Arm Cannon. It fires quick-moving electrical blasts with a fast rate of fire and spray capability. When fully charged, the weapon fires a large, slow-moving explosive sphere of energy that causes massive damage to a target.
- Shock Coil: The Shock Coil was a prototype weapon under development by the Galactic Federation. It was later stolen by the bounty hunter Sylux, along with plans for its power suit and its ship, the Delano 7. The Shock Coil emits a short-ranged, continuous burst of concentrated, high density neutrinos, and seeks the nearest target. The Shock Coil's damage effect is highly similar to the Wavebuster. The amount of damage done to the target increases with prolonged fire.
- Magmaul: The Magmaul fires molten projectiles with a large splash radius. The projectiles bounce off walls and objects and explode after three seconds. When charged, it produces a larger and more damaging projectile with a much greater splash radius.
- Imperialist: The Imperialist is a sniper weapon used by the Kriken Empire to increase their territory. It fires a powerful, long-ranged laser beam with incredible accuracy, but its precise nature severely limits its rate of fire and it cannot be charged. To enhance its role as a sniping weapon, the Imperialist has zoom capabilities. Zooming in is done by pressing R, the Select button, or double-tapping the weapon icon on the bottom screen. When the zoomed-in reticle passes over a target, even if it is behind a wall, the weapon will automatically zoom in further, allowing for increased accuracy. It is capable of inflicting an instant kill on an enemy Bounty Hunter if a headshot is achieved with the scope.
- Omega Cannon: The Omega Cannon is a weapon of unknown origin. It fires a powerful but slow-moving ball of radioactive energy that has a timed detonation, traveling a significant distance before exploding, unless it comes into contact with an object, in which case it will detonate immediately. When Samus Aran fought Gorea at the Oubliette, she used this weapon to defeat the beast's final form, which was impervious to all other weaponry. Heavy gamma radiation emanates from the Omega Cannon, which suggests nuclear firepower.
- Universal Ammunition: Universal Ammunition is used to power the six Affinity Weapons used by Samus Aran and the other Bounty Hunters.
- Alimbic Artifact: An Alimbic Artifact is an item in Metroid Prime Hunters that is required to activate a Stronghold Portal and enter the Stronghold Void. There are three different types of these artifacts: Cartograph, Binary Subscripture and Attameter Artifacts. Three of any of these can be found twice on the Celestial Archives, Alinos, Vesper Defense Outpost, and Arcterra to activate a Stronghold Portal so that Samus can defeat a Cretaphid or Slench and gain an Octolith. Each type of artifact is a scannable object.
- Octolith: An Octolith is a crystal of unknown material that contains the essence of Alimbic elders. They appear only in Metroid Prime Hunters, in which there are eight of them in total and all are required to gain access to the Oubliette. There are two Octoliths per each planet in the game. The eight Octoliths power the Alimbic Cannon, located on Alinos, which summons the Oubliette that contains Gorea.
“ | The Plasma Beam can be used to ignite some enemies and burn them to ash.
Certain materials are also susceptible to extreme temperatures and can be melted. In addition to its destructive capabilities, the Plasma Beam may also be used to repair damaged devices. |
„ |
- Screw Attack: The Screw Attack is one of Samus Aran's most iconic and powerful Power Suit upgrades. It is an advanced movement system that allows Samus to emit energy waves from points on her armor while she somersaults into the air, turning her into a rotating energy blade of destruction, making her invincible in the process.
- Ship Grapple Beam: The Ship Grapple Beam is a gunship-mounted Grapple Beam that allows Samus Aran's gunship to pick up and drop heavy objects in the environment via a Ship Grapple Point. These objects can then be relocated for various purposes. This function is regulated by the Command Visor.
- Seeker Missile: The Seeker Missile upgrade allows Samus Aran to simultaneously fire up to five normal Missiles at up to five targets. Seeker Missiles can also be used to fire more than one Missile at each target.
- Hyper Missile: The Hyper Missile is a Phazon-enhanced version of the Missile. Hyper Missiles take the place of Super Missiles in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. To use the Hyper Missile, Samus has to enter Hypermode. Whilst in this state, all her Missiles now become Hyper Missiles. Upon the Hyper Missiles impact, a Phazon induced explosion with a considerable radius occurs, allowing for damage to multiple enemies if aimed correctly. The missile also possesses an incredible amount of power and most foes can be defeated within a few shots. Each Hyper Missile uses only one Missile, as opposed to 5 Missiles taken by Super Missiles in the previous Prime games. Only 4 maximum can be used per Hypermode use because each missile drains a considerable amount of Phazon from Samus' energy reserves. This can also be a quick way to end Corrupted Hypermode. When Samus enters permanent Hypermode on Phaaze this ceases to be a problem, although the number of Hyper Missiles Samus can fire is still dependent on the number of Missile Expansions she has collected (and thus the number of Missiles she has). Hyper Missiles are also useless against enemies or obstacles that are resistant to standard Missiles (such as Assault Pirate Troopers).
- X-Ray Visor: The X-Ray visor appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption with a revamped look. While most objects are varying shades of blue, the heat signatures of some objects appear to be visible as an orange tint, much like when Samus uses the Thermal Visor from Metroid Prime. Power-ups are also visible while using the X-Ray Visor, which can be useful if Samus is searching for any power-ups in the surrounding area. The material Phazite is penetrable by X-rays, allowing Samus' visor to see through it. This, when used in combination with the Nova Beam, a beam weapon that can pass through Phazite, is very helpful. If this visor is used in conjunction with the Nova Beam, Samus can target the weak spots of certain enemies (such as the brains of Commando Pirates and Berserker Knights and the internal nuclei of Phazon Metroids and Metroid Hatchers) for a one-hit-kill. Collecting the visor makes certain devices usable as well, such as the code locks scattered across the Pirate Homeworld.
- Grapple Voltage: The Grapple Voltage is an upgrade for the Grapple Beam and gives Samus Aran the ability to either siphon energy from or give energy to objects and creatures. This ability is similar to the energy-draining abilities of Metroids. If Samus siphons energy from something, she gains health, and if she gives energy, she loses health. Giving up energy is a useful gameplay mechanic - Phazon enemies can be overloaded and explode, and later into the game, Samus is practically required to lose energy via this method. The Grapple Voltage can also be used to drain energy from certain enemies which can be grappled. In some cases Samus needs to drain energy into special terminals to power down shields blocking doors.
- Spider Ball: The Spider Ball allows Samus to adhere to walls and ceilings when in Morph Ball form, thus allowing her to reach nearly anywhere.
- Hazard Shield: The Hazard Shield (referred to as the Acid Shield Unit by NZG41) is a suit enhancement from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that protects Samus Aran from the environmental hazards of Fuel Gel and the Acid Rain of the Pirate Homeworld.
- Nova Beam: The Nova Beam is a high-frequency beam used in the Pirate Homeworld's mining facility. The Space Pirates had developed it as both a weapon system and to be installed in mining operations involving Phazon ore. Samus Aran stole the Beam from the Main Cavern in the Pirate Mines, shutting down the Mining cannon that was cutting and extracting Phazon deposits in the facility. The Nova Beam is designed to be used in combination with the X-Ray Visor, another Pirate device. Using the X-Ray Visor allows Samus to see through Phazite, and the Nova Beam allows Samus to pierce it to attack points concealed beneath. The Nova Beam plays a key role in the battle against Omega Ridley, as Samus Aran must use it to shoot through Omega Ridley's Phazite armor to damage his internal joints.
- Hyper Grapple: The Hyper Grapple is the fourth and final Hypermode attack. After defeating Omega Ridley in the Pirate Homeworld's Leviathan, Samus Aran gets bombarded with more Phazon, further corrupting her to 75% Corruption. Samus then obtains the item. Being a Hypermode attack, it can only be used in Hypermode and requires the use of Phazon to use it. This is the Grapple Voltage's Hypermode variant. It injects Phazon into the enemy, either massively damaging it or absorbing Phazon while slowly damaging the creature she is latched onto. However, like the Grapple Voltage, the downside is that it can only be used on the handful of enemies that have a Grapple Point for the Grapple Lasso.
*Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | The compact Morph Ball lets you move through narrow passages. Simply push [Circle Pad] down while crouching, or tap the map on the touch screen to take on Morph Ball form. | „ |
- Scan Pulse: Scan Pulse is the first Aeion ability in Metroid: Samus Returns. It is acquired from an Aeion Ability Artifact in the Surface area. When used, Samus is enveloped in a blue orb which releases outward in a pulse, revealing Map data over a 9x9 square range around her, and breakable walls, floors or blocks within that range will begin flashing and beeping for 10 seconds.
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.
“ | The Charge Beam gathers energy, which is then released all at once. This power can be used to open Charge Doors. | „ |
- Bomb: Bombs are the basic weapons for Samus Aran's Morph Ball. Although bombs are not of great use on many normal enemies, they can break certain objects and activate bomb slots. When Samus is near a detonated bomb, she will be propelled upwards. This is a Bomb Jump.
- Spider Ball: The Spider Ball allows Samus to adhere to walls and ceilings when in Morph Ball form, thus allowing her to reach nearly anywhere.
- Lightning Armor: Lightning Armor is the second Aeion ability in Metroid: Samus Returns. It is acquired from an Aeion Ability Artifact in Area 2. The ability imbues Samus Aran's Power Suit with an electric green aura, which protects her from attacks and external damage, and is particularly useful when running through red plants or Fleech Swarms. Any attacks sustained by the shield will deplete the Aeion Gauge instead of Samus's energy. The ability also greatly increases the range of Melee Counters, known as a Lightning Counter.
- High Jump Boots: As indicated by the name, the Boots allow Samus Aran to jump much higher.
- Spring Ball: The Spring Ball is a power-up that allows Samus Aran to jump in Morph Ball form without Bomb Jumping.
- Beam Burst: The Beam Burst is the third Aeion ability in Metroid: Samus Returns. It is acquired from an Aeion Ability Artifact in Area 3. The ability enhances Samus's beam weapons and allows her to unleash a machine gun-like barrage of shots when the fire button is held down. This naturally means the Charge Beam is incompatible with the Beam Burst. As with other Aeion abilities, using the Beam Burst depletes Samus' reserve of Aeion.
- Spazer Beam: When shot, the beam splits into three lasers.
- Space Jump: The Space Jump is a highly advanced Chozo-designed movement system that allows Samus to Spin Jump repeatedly in midair.
- Super Missile: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Phase Drift: Phase Drift is the fourth and final Aeion ability in Metroid: Samus Returns. It is acquired from an Aeion Ability Artifact in Area 5. When used, the screen takes on a purplish hue and time is slowed down by 50%, affecting enemies and obstacles but not Samus herself. This includes graphical effects in the background and the baby's movement. Phase Drift will even slow down the process of blocks breaking when it is active.
- Plasma Beam: The Plasma has the unique capability to pierce through multiple foes, ultimately obliterating them.
“ | The Plasma Beam accumulates and then releases powerful plasma energy. It can pass through multiple enemies. | „ |
- Fusion Suit: Samus Aran’s Fusion Suit is the result of radical alterations to her Power Suit during the opening scenes of Metroid Fusion. Its creation was an unexpected side effect of the surgical removal of certain parts of her armor and the Vaccine "Metroid" given to Samus when she was about to die from an X Parasite infection.
*Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | You can use the Morphing Ball to make Samus roll into a ball and squeeze into narrow areas.
“ | These are necessary for opening certain doors and give you a better chance against the powerful guardians. You'll be able to carry five missiles for each missile icon you collect.
“ | When you have the bombs, you can set explosive devices by making Samus roll into a ball and pressing the fire button. In addition to damaging enemies, Bombs can blow open certain sections of the floors and walls. | „ |
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.
“ | The charge item allows you to charge your beam and send out a super-powerful blast. | „ |
- Super Missiles: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Hi-Jump Boots: As indicated by the name, the Boots allow Samus Aran to jump much higher.
- Spazer Beam: When shot, the beam splits into three lasers.
- Reserve Tank: A Reserve Tank is a type of expansion exclusive to Super Metroid and Metroid: Samus Returns. As the name suggests, each Reserve Tank provides an "extra" energy reserve of 100 units, with a maximum reserve of 400 once Samus finds them all. They can be set to be used automatically once her base energy is reduced to zero, or to be used manually from the Samus Screen. Recharging Samus' energy at her ship and the Crystal Flash can refill the Reserve Tanks, though using an Energy Charge will not. She must otherwise collect Energy Capsules from defeated creatures to charge them, once her base Energy Tanks have been filled to capacity. In Samus Returns, when Samus's energy is depleted, the tank will automatically replenish 299 energy. The tank has indefinite usage and cannot be discarded unless a new save file is started. Using the Smash Bros. Samus and Samus Returns Samus amiibo also contain Missile and Aeion Reserve Tanks that will replenish Samus's Missile Ammo (50 regular Missiles, or 10 Super Missiles) and 500 Aeion.
- Power Bombs: Power Bombs are one of Samus' most powerful weapons.
- Grappling Beam: The Grapple Beam, also known as the Grappling Beam in Super Metroid, is a beam weapon with tethering properties. It is used to latch onto certain surfaces, allowing Samus to swing from this point and reach areas that would be otherwise unreachable without the Screw Attack or Space Jump.
- Wave Beam: The wave beam is a beam item for Samus that goes through objects and walls, effectively negating durability.
- X-Ray Scope: The X-Ray Scope, also referred to as the X-Ray device is an exclusive item found in Super Metroid. It allows Samus Aran to see hidden passages and reveal destructible blocks, a similar function to the Power Bomb used in Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission. It is found in Brinstar.
- Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
- Space Jump: The Space Jump is a highly advanced Chozo-designed movement system that allows Samus to Spin Jump repeatedly in midair.
- Spring Ball: The Spring Ball is a power-up that allows Samus Aran to jump in Morph Ball form without Bomb Jumping.
- Plasma Beam: The Plasma has the unique capability to pierce through multiple foes, ultimately obliterating them.
“ | The most powerful of all the beams can destroy several targets at once. | „ |
- Hyper Beam: The Hyper Beam is a special and incredibly powerful beam. The beam itself is a long line of shifting rainbow colors. Samus Aran acquired the Hyper Beam when she was losing in her final showdown against the Mother Brain. The baby attacked Mother Brain and drained from her the energy used to fire the Laser Brain Attack, giving it to Samus as it replenished her Energy Tanks. Mother Brain killed it, and it exploded over Samus, channeling the stolen energy through its remains into her Power Suit, which presumably created the Hyper Beam. Samus used the Hyper Beam's immense power to overpower and defeat Mother Brain once and for all. The Hyper Beam replaces all other beams in Samus's inventory, and is immensely powerful. It can pass through walls and enemies and it destroys obstacles that are impenetrable to other beams, such as Shutters. The projectile looks like the charged Plasma Beam, but flashes rainbow colors. It also cannot be charged to increase its power; holding the fire button causes the beam to rapid-fire, much like the Phazon Beam.
*Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | Press A to go into Morph Ball mode and move around small spaces. Press A again to change back. | „ |
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.
“ | Press 1 to fire a beam. Press and hold 1 and release to fire a powerful Charge Beam. | „ |
- Missile Launcher: The Missile Launcher has appeared in every single game yet in the Metroid series. It is an upgrade to her Arm Cannon that reconfigures it to fire Missiles. In Metroid: Other M, missiles play a more unique role. They are more often used to damage/eliminate things that other weapons cannot (mostly the Charge Beam). All missile types can only be fired in Search View, however. Other M is the first Metroid game to introduce a missile supply that can be reloaded and replenished if Samus is low on missiles by holding the Wii Remote vertically, and pressing and holding the A button until her stock is replenished. This technique is known as Concentration, and can also be used to restore energy at dangerously low levels.
“ | Press and release A while locked on to release a missile. If you press and release A when the Charge Gauge is fully charged, five missiles will be used and you'll shoot a powerful Super Missile.
- Diffusion Beam: The Diffusion Beam is the only new beam weapon featured in Metroid: Other M. When a Charge Beam hits a wall or an enemy, it will diffuse into several smaller bursts of energy in a much wider radius, hence the name.
- Varia Feature: The Varia Suit, alternatively referred to as Barrier Suit and Varia Feature, is a Power Suit upgrade.
- Shinespark: The Shinespark is a hidden move Samus can execute after getting the Speed Booster ability and has appeared in every game with it. It was originally taught to her by the Dachora on Zebes. A Shinespark is performed by activating the Speed Booster, crouching, and then jumping. When jumping, Samus can choose to aim the Shinespark in one of five directions; these directions are left, diagonal up-left, up, diagonal up-right, and right. The process must not be interrupted if the Shinespark is to be performed successfully. Once she has stored a charge by crouching, Samus may stand up and move around as usual with the exception of jumping normally, which will activate the Shinespark. This may be avoided by performing a Spin Jump, which does not activate the technique. While Samus cannot fire any beams while doing a Shinespark, a charged beam can be maintained during a Shinespark in Metroid: Zero Mission. Samus can also Shinespark in mid-spin jump. In order to do this, she must store a Speed Booster charge as usual. After spin jumping into the air, she must look up, down, or fire a beam to stop the spin. Once she has stopped spinning, attempting to jump again will activate the Shinespark; again, the Shinespark can fly in any of the five previously mentioned directions.
- Wave Beam: The wave beam is a beam item for Samus that goes through objects and walls, effectively negating durability.
- Super Missile: The Super Missile is a weapon often found in the Metroid series that provides a stronger alternative to normal Missiles. It is usually one of the stronger components of Samus' arsenal.
- Plasma Beam: The Plasma has the unique capability to pierce through multiple foes, ultimately obliterating them.
“ | Effect: Increases damage. Secondary effect of passing through enemies. | „ |
- Space Jump: The Space Jump is a highly advanced Chozo-designed movement system that allows Samus to Spin Jump repeatedly in midair.
- Seeker Missile: The Seeker Missile upgrade allows Samus Aran to simultaneously fire up to five normal Missiles at up to five targets. Seeker Missiles can also be used to fire more than one Missile at each target.
- Gravity Feature: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
*Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.

It is an advanced movement system that allows Samus to emit energy waves from points on her armor while she somersaults into the air, turning her into a rotating energy blade of destruction, making her invincible in the process.
*Fusion Suit: Samus Aran’s Fusion Suit is the result of radical alterations to her Power Suit during the opening scenes of Metroid Fusion. Its creation was an unexpected side effect of the surgical removal of certain parts of her armor and the Vaccine "Metroid" given to Samus when she was about to die from an X Parasite infection.
“ | The ability to fire Missiles is crucial throughout the exploration of the space station. However, with a limited supply, Missiles must be used carefully. | „ |
- Morph Ball: The morph ball is the Alt-Form of Samus Aran and allows her to turn into a sphere 0.8 meters in diameter. It allows her to enter small tunnels and openings, which often lead to previously inaccessible areas.
“ | The Morph Ball ability allows Samus to roll into a small ball, perfect for traversing narrow tunnels or dropping down maintenance shafts. | „ |
- Charge Beam: The Charge Beam is a power-up that allows Samus to charge up her current beam and release a more potent version of it.

- Ice Missiles: As the name implies, these Missiles strike the enemy with extreme cold, providing a freezing effect when the Ice Beam may not be available.
- Wide Beam: The Wide Beam was one of the many Beams available to Samus Aran in her Fusion Suit during the events of Metroid Fusion. It is similar to the Spazer Beam of other games, but the Wide Beam splits into three pink rings like a wall, as opposed to the Spazer's three individual lasers. Unlike the Spazer featured in Super Metroid, which can only hit one target at a time, the Wide Beam is made up of three separate shots, so that all three can hit different targets.
- Power Bomb: Power Bombs are one of Samus' most powerful weapons. They must be deployed via Morph Ball mode; a few seconds after being deployed, they detonate, destroying most enemies within a very large radius, often covering an entire screen or more. - Gravity Suit: The Gravity Suit is an upgrade for Samus Aran's Power Suit. As its name implies, the Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.
- Diffusion Missiles: Diffusion Missiles have a very large blast radius, but only when charged. When charged and fired, the Diffusion Missile creates a shockwave of ice energy that spans the entire screen, freezing enemies, as well as destroying Missile Blocks.
- Wave Beam: The wave beam is a beam item for Samus that goes through objects and walls, effectively negating durability.
- Screw Attack: The Screw Attack is one of Samus Aran's most iconic and powerful Power Suit upgrades. - SA-X Fused Suit: At the end of the game right before Samus is about to die to the omega metroid, the SA-X comes in the way trying to defeat the Omega Metroid itself before being defeated, Samus then absorbs the SA-X fusing it with her suit getting all the lost powers from the SA-X along with her new powers she got in fusion. It also increases her power to be able to fight the omega metroid.
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius (Consistently referred to as the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, has repeatedly single-handedly taken down entire armadas of space pirate fleets along with the ground team they’re stationed with, a feat seen as so impossible that one of the higher ranking galactic federation soldiers noting this feat to another was dismissed as a myth with the federation soldier considering Samus big foot or santa claus. Said Space Pirates are also noted to be well trained in weapon and melee combat. Could easily shoot a small bullet from outside the bar. Easily decoded Space Pirates scriptures in two hours. Is a master of the power suit completely unequaled to anyone else that have used lesser copies, with the power suit being made by the Chozos the most intelligent beings in the universe)
Standard Tactics: Samus will normally use the scan visor to understand her enemy and find either a weak point or their fighting tactics. With this they’ll use the best weapon for combat or use a combination of weapons for the best result. Samus can also use hand to hand combat or call her ship for an aerial strike if need be. Along with this if Samus believes it’s a battle she cannot win head on she will go into stealth and try to find an opening on the opponent.
Weaknesses: The power suit is based on Samus’ emotions and thoughts, thus anything done to her emotions could weaken the power suit, for example getting hit with PTSD. If Samus stays in hyper mode for too long or gets corrupted, she’ll become another Dark Samus. Due to having the Metroid’s DNA, Samus shares their innate vulnerability to cold temperatures. Though this only applies to the base fusion suit.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
Counter Hit: Samus counters an enemy's special attack to stun the enemy and automatically take aim at it. Paralyzer: A sidearm used by Samus while in her Zero Suit, the Paralyzer is a weak but useful pistol that can be used to stun opponents, allowing Samus to capitalize on them being stunned or fleeing.
Beams: Samus' arm cannon is equipped with many forms of attack, including her primary form of her attack, her beams, which she uses for long-range combat. As modular as Samus' Power Suit itself, Samus can stack and combine the effects of her different beam weapons to use many of them at once and increase their power.
- Power Beam: Samus' default weapon and an integral part of her original Power Suit. It has a range of three to ten meters under normal circumstances, but after Samus gains the Long Beam, both its range and power are permanently increased as Samus permanently incorporates the Long Beam into her weapon systems.
- Charge Beam: Not a beam, exactly, but an upgrade to Samus' arm cannon that allows her to charge up her beam attacks to greatly enhance their strength. While Samus is charging her arm cannon, she draws in nearby health and ammo pickups. The Diffusion Beam causes her charge shots to explode and release several other smaller charged shots after hitting an opponent or an obstacle.
- Grapple Beam: Though it is a beam and can damage opponents, the Grapple Beam is primarily used for mobility, firing a tether that allows Samus to swing across otherwise impassable gaps. It can also latch onto certain enemies. The Grapple Lasso upgrade allows Samus to use it to tear off doors or enemy shields and armors, and the Grapple Voltage allows Samus to channel her energy through the beam or drain energy from enemies she catches with it. She can use this to overload opponents with Phazon and kill them.
- Ice Beam: One of Samus' signature beam upgrades, the Ice Beam can be used to, as its name implies, freeze opponents, allowing Samus to destroy them with less issue or even use them as platforms.
- Plasma Beam: The most powerful of Samus' standard beam upgrades, the Plasma Beam fires thin rays that can easily pierce through multiple enemies at once, dealing extensive damage. In the Prime series, the Plasma Beam is instead fire-based, shooting an incredibly hot stream of molten energy that can instantly incinerate opponents.
- Spazer Beam: The Spazer Beam splits Samus' shots into three when she fires, allowing her to cover a much greater area with her gunfire. It is effectively identical to Samus' Wide Beam, which splits her shots into three separate rings instead of three separate lasers.
- Wave Beam: A more powerful upgrade to Samus' regular beam that fires oscillating wave energy that can pass through walls, armor, and forcefields. In the Prime series, the Wave Beam is instead electricity-based, fires three smaller shots at once, and can lock and home onto targets. When charged, it fires a single burst of electricity that can stun opponents.
- Annihilator Beam: A secret but extremely powerful Luminoth weapon that combines light and dark energy to fire a concentrated matter-antimatter shot that homes in on targets and has an incredibly high fire rate. When charged, it fires a slower blast that explodes on contact with its target with a wide blast radius, stunning all opponents caught in the explosion, referred to as the Disruptor. It can also interface with sonic technology.
- Dark Beam: A Luminoth weapon that mimics the dark energy used by the inhabitants of Dark Aether, the Dark Beam fires blasts of swirling, strange energy, and can be charged up to encase targets in a brittle but immobilizing shell of dark energy that she can shatter with a missile, called the Entangler.
- Light Beam: A Luminoth weapon that draws upon the light energy found within Aether's atmosphere, using this power to fire searing beams of light that can pass through enemies and set them alight. When charged, the Light Beam instead fires a scattering of white-hot spheres that home into locked-on targets and set them on fire, dubbed the Lightburst.
- Nova Beam: A high-frequency beam used by the Space Pirates in mining operations. Designed to be used in conjunction with the X-Ray Visor, the Nova Beam can be used to its full potential in such situations, as Samus can see through armor and fire the Nova Beam through any weak spots she sees. It is particularly effective against Phazite armor.
- Omega Cannon: An Alimbic superweapon that fires a slow-moving sphere of timed radioactive energy that can travel a great distance before it explodes. Thanks to its immense power, it was capable of destroying Gorea, who could regenerate from being destroyed by weapons such as the Shock Coil and became invulnerable to them in its second form. Even when unused, the Omega Cannon emits high levels of gamma radiation, making it an incredibly powerful weapon.
Missiles: One of Samus' primary weapons, the missiles add an explosive, ballistic component to her armaments, much more powerful than her basic Power Beam. Samus' basic missiles can home in on targets after Samus locks onto them, or can be fired more quickly without tracking capabilities. Samus usually carries around 250 of these regular missiles with her at maximum.
- Ice Missiles: An upgraded version of the missile that has freezing capabilities, allowing Samus to freeze and destroy her opponents. These are further upgraded during Metroid Fusion with the Diffusion Missiles, allowing Samus to charge up her missiles so that when they explode, they have a much larger blast radius and freeze all opponents nearby.
- Seeker Missiles: An upgrade that allows Samus to fire up to five missiles at once, locking onto up to five different targets, potentially including weak points she's spotted on an opponent.
- Super Missiles: A much more powerful form of a missile that flies at a higher speed, causing a massive explosion on impact. Usually separate from Samus' regular missiles, they act as an upgraded version of them in Metroid Fusion and acts as the Power Beam's Charge Combo in the Prime series. If distinct, Samus has, at most, 50 Super Missiles on her.
- Charge Combos: Charge Combos are greatly enhanced versions of Samus' regular beams that she can use by combining them with her missiles. Super Metroid and the Prime series have their unique Charge Combos.
- Darkburst: The Dark Beam's Charge Combo, which uses a massive amount of dark energy, fired as a sphere, to violently wrench open a dimensional rift that engulfs those caught in the blast, drawing them into another dimension if not killing them outright.
- Flamethrower: The Plasma Beam's Charge Combo, which emits a three meter long beam of fiery plasma that ignites everything it touches, allowing Samus to quickly burn her opponents to ash. Its equivalent in Super Metroid sends out four ring-shaped plasma bolts that spread out around her, contract, and then fire out in four different directions.
- Ice Spreader: The Ice Beam's Charge Combo, which fires a homing blast of ice that shatters on impact, creating a fast-spreading layer of ice that quickly freezes everything in its blast radius. Its equivalent in Super Metroid instead surrounds Samus with four circling bolts of ice that will damage and freeze any opponents they run into.
- Sonic Boom: Samus' most powerful Charge Combo, the Annihilator Beam's variant. Condensing matter and antimatter, it fires a sonic blast that instantly travels to its target and rips open a distortion in space and time, exploding and eradicating whatever was caught in the blast.
- Spazer Beam: One of the Special Charge Beam Attacks, this technique fires two spazer bolts that circle Samus before shoot up into the air and then descend on her surroundings as a wave of energy.
- Sunburst: The Light Beam's Charge Combo, which fires a painfully bright sphere of searing light, casting rays of light over its surroundings, tracking onto opponents and burning them to ash before the sphere explodes in a burst of white-hot light.
- Wavebuster: The Wave Beam's Charge Combo, a sustained fire weapon that fires a stream of electricity at Samus' target, tracking them while continuously electrocuting and stunning them. Its equivalent in Super Metroid manifests four spheres of energy that Samus can aim and fire.
Bombs: Samus' primary weapon when utilizing the Morph Ball, which she sets down, generally to destroy obstacles, though they remain useful in combat as well. These small explosives function on a timer and can float in the air if Samus sets them while jumping or falling. By using the explosions of her bombs to propel herself upwards, Samus can reach locations that she normally would not be able to.
- Power Bombs: One of Samus' most powerful weapons, the Power Bomb is a bomb of such force that it can destroy planets. A few seconds after being deployed, a Power Bomb explodes in an omnidirectional wave of heat and energy that can vaporize anything caught in the blast with ease. Samus generally has a limited amount of Power Bombs, 74 at most, but in Other M they act as charged up versions of her regular bombs. In Fusion, they have a vacuum effect that draws in X Parasites.
Affinity Weapons: The Affinity Weapons are the distinct special weapons used by the different bounty hunters of Metroid Prime: Bounty Hunters, which Samus has collected and could utilize during the events of that game.
- Battlehammer: Weavel's Affinity Weapon, a high-caliber weapon powered by a miniature nuclear reactor, the Battlehammer fires arcing, explosive blasts of energy, similar to a mortar. While it cannot be charged, it has a high rate of fire.
- Imperialist: Trace's Affinity Weapon, a sniper rifle that fires a highly accurate laser beam and can zoom in on targets.
- Judicator: Noxus' Affinity Weapon, the Judicator is powered by cold fusion synthesis and fires supercooled plasma at its targets at temperatures that approach Absolute Zero. It can ricochet off of walls, and, when charged, it fires three shots at once.
- Magmaul: Spire's Affinity Weapon, which is powered by a hyperstatic hydrogen core and fires projectiles formed from superheated magma that can bounce off walls and explode. When charged, the explosion is much bigger and more damaging.
- Shock Coil: Sylux's Affinity Weapon, a stolen Federation prototype that fires a concentrated beam of high-density neutrinos, homing in on targets and dealing damage on a subatomic scale.
- Volt Driver: Kanden's Affinity Weapon, which draws upon the energy of the planet's electromagnetic field, converting it into high voltage, multi-terawatt bursts. It has a high rate of fire, and when charged, can fire a slow, explosive sphere of energy.
Command Visor: A visor that Samus can use to remotely control and direct her gunship, commanding it to do such tasks as land, attack opponents, and move large objects with its grapple beam.
Dark Visor: A Luminoth visor that Samus can use to see objects that are caught in flux between dimensions, such as objects that exist on both Aether and Dark Aether. She can also lock onto beings that she normally would not be able to, such as certain forms of Ing.
Echo Visor: A Luminoth visor that allows Samus to visualize sound waves, using them to locate hidden objects and opponents.
Scan Visor: One of Samus' most important visor systems, which she uses to scan other objects and beings, gaining information on them, such as knowledge of potential weaknesses and capabilities.
Thermal Visor: A visor that allows Samus to see on the infrared spectrum so that she can locate and track other beings based on their heat signatures. It's very useful in the dark or extreme cold and weather situations, but it functions poorly when exposed to intensely hot temperatures.
X-Ray Visor: A visor upgrade that uses x-rays so that Samus can see through solid object or flesh, and track targets that would otherwise be invisible, such as ghosts. It can also be used to detect weak points in enemies. This acts similarly to her X-Ray Scope, which allows her to see through stone to reveal hidden passages and blocks that she can destroy.
- High Jump Boots: A simple but useful upgrade that greatly increases Samus' jump height. In some games, it also grants the Spring Ball powerup.
- Space Jump: A highly advanced Chozo movement system that allows Samus to spin jump through the air infinitely.
- Space Jump Boots: Allow her to perform a double jump.
- Speed Booster: A powerup that allows Samus to build up supersonic speeds by running in one direction for long enough, effectively making her invincible as she rushes through and damages any opponents in her way. She can easily plow through obstacles in this state and can jump to carry on the boost and hit airborne opponents. The speed booster can also amplify a ship to move far faster then it could before.
- Shinespark: A special technique that Samus can use after initiating a Speed Boost by crouching, storing the speed. She can then release this speed to launch herself in a specified location, allowing her to Speed Boost mid-air, stopping only when she hits a surface she can't destroy. If she runs into a slope, Samus will immediately begin running again, with her speed already boosted. She can even use a Shinespark while in Morph ball form or while spin jumping.
Morph Ball: One of Samus' signature upgrades, the Morph Ball allows Samus to roll up into a tiny sphere of 0.8 meters in diameter so that she can reach otherwise inaccessible areas. In her Morph Ball form, as opposed to her regular beams and missiles, she instead uses her bombs. It can also be quickly used to dodge attacks.
- Boost Ball: An upgrade to the Morph Ball that allows Samus to charge up speed so that she can rush forwards at much higher speeds for a short amount of time. At these speeds, thanks to kinetic energy, she can use the speed and force of the Morph Ball itself as a weapon.
- Spider Ball: An upgrade to the Morph Ball that allows Samus to adhere to surfaces and roll up them, allowing her to reach locations that would otherwise be inaccessible. In the Prime series, it can only latch onto certain magnetic materials and special rails made for this purpose.
- Spring Ball: An upgrade to the Morph Ball that allows her to jump while in this form. It is sometimes acquired along with the High Jump Boots.
Power Grip: A basic upgrade that allows Samus to grab onto ledges and pull herself up onto them. She possesses this ability by default while in the Zero and Fusion Suits, thanks to their light weight.
Screw Attack: One of Samus' most iconic and powerful upgrades, the Screw Attack allows Samus to surround herself in a field of energy while spin jumping, shredding through any opponents in her way while also providing protection, rendering her effectively invulnerable. It is powerful enough to easily destroy most enemies just by jumping through them. She can also perform this with short hops, essentially dashing forwards with a Screw Attack.
Power Suit: Samus' basic, signature Power Suit, the lynchpin of her arsenal, properly known as Chozo Battle Suit Ver SA1-4468-VM6-P. This suit serves as her "second skin" as explained by Samus herself. This refers to both the base Power Suit without upgrades, and her suit as a whole and any equipment she may have acquired. It is equipped with Oxygen Supply Equipment that allows Samus to survive essentially indefinitely in the vacuum of space or underwater, and protects against airborne toxins and pollutants, allowing her to survive in inhospitable environments.
The Power Suit's modular technology allows Samus to integrate all sorts of technology into its construction so that she can amass a powerful arsenal of weapons and armor upgrades throughout her adventures, becoming increasingly dangerous as she does so. Weapons and ammunition are stored as data until they are needed, at which point they are rendered tangible so that Samus can fire them. It has advanced energy shielding technology equipped by default as well, protecting her from harm. The Power Suit integrates with Samus on a biological level, and thus cannot be removed without her cooperation, but if she wills it, it will simply disappear in a flash. She can materialize it in the same way.
Legendary Power Suit: At the end of Zero Mission, after passing the Ruins Test, Samus gains the Legendary Power Suit, a powerful upgrade to her basic Power Suit that she has wielded ever since then.
Fusion Suit: In Metroid Fusion, her Power Suit is rebuilt as the Fusion Suit, which has much of the same capabilities but is much slimmer and lighter, and, as a result, provides less protection, especially against subzero temperatures, which Samus is extremely weak to thanks to her Metroid DNA.
- Varia Suit: Samus' most recognizable suit, the Varia Suit protects against extreme conditions such as acid and intense temperatures of either extreme, allowing her to safely travel through superhot locations such as the depths of Norfair and subzero locations such as Sector 5 in Metroid Fusion, overcoming the weakness to cold she had at the time thanks to her Metroid DNA. It also increases the strength of Samus' defenses, greatly reducing the damage she takes in combat.
- Gravity Suit: One of Samus' most effective suits, the Gravity Suit allows her to move through environments with abnormal gravity and water without being impeded, making her highly resistant to gravitational forces. It also further reinforces her defenses and increases her resistance to even hotter temperatures. The Gravity Boost that she gains in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is effectively analogous, allowing her to easily move through the water.
- Phazon Suit: Samus' final suit in Metroid Prime, which she gained after being exposed to high amounts of Phazon after she killed the Omega Pirate, infusing her with pure phazon. Due to being infused with pure phazon, Samus gains an increased resistance to blue Phazon as well as increased defenses. Additionally, when exposed to high amounts of Phazon, it allows her to enter Hypermode and make use of the extremely powerful Phazon Beam.
- Dark Suit: A Luminoth Power Suit that was used by their kind to survive in the harsh environment of Dark Aether, protecting her from the noxious dark vapor and filtering out 80% of the effects of Dark Aether's corrosive atmosphere.
- Light Suit: The ultimate Luminoth Power Suit, the greatest weapon, which they intended to use against the Ing. Powered by the Light of Aether, the Light Suit protects Samus from the foul Dark Water of Dark Aether and the assaults of swarms of Ingstorm, allowing her to move through Dark Aether without issue. It also lets her travel through Light Shafts to quickly traverse great distances on Aether.
- PED Suit: A Phazon Enhancement Device designed specifically for Samus to integrate with her Power Suit, the PED Suit allows Samus to safely absorb and harness the power of Phazon, which she can produce herself. Her resistance to Phazon is greatly enhanced in this suit. With this suit, Samus can restore her health while submerged in pools of Phazon and enter into Hypermode. It is later enhanced by the Hazard Shield, protecting Samus from environmental hazards such as acid rain and fuel gel.
Concentration: A technique that Samus can use when low on health to replenish her energy by focusing power in her Arm Cannon, restoring a tank of energy and some of her missiles. The amount of energy she can regain in this way can be increased by "E-Recovery Tanks". This serves effectively as her Healing & Regeneration.
Crystal Flash: A secret technique that Samus can use to replenish her health at the cost of her ammunition, taught to her by the Chozo and performed using technology integrated into the Power Suit. By laying a Power Bomb, Samus wreathes herself in a cocoon of energy, using the power of the bomb to completely replenish her energy supplies.
Hypermode: A highly powerful but temporary state in which Samus is powered up by exposure to Phazon, draining her energy to greatly increase her firepower and render herself nearly invulnerable to harm. While in Hypermode, Samus must vent her Phazon so that she doesn't damage herself and suffer terminal corruption, dying and becoming another Dark Samus.
- Phazon / Hyper Beam: An incredibly powerful upgrade for Samus' beam that instead fires blue bolts of electricity with high power, draining her supply of Phazon if none is available nearby. It can be charged to instead rapidly fire multiple beams one after another.
- Hyper Ball: A Phazon-powered Morph Ball strike that releases a burst of blue electricity in all directions, seeking and damaging all opponents caught in the blast but constantly draining Samus' Phazon as long as it's active.
- Hyper Grapple: An enhanced Grapple Beam, empowered by the power of Phazon. After latching onto an opponent with her Grapple Beam, Samus can either pump them full of Phazon to heavily damage and kill them or absorb their supplies of Phazon.
- Hyper Missile: A Phazon-empowered missile that fires missiles that explode into large bursts of Phazon, dealing extensive damage.
Lethal Strike: A melee combat technique utilized by Samus in Other M. Once an opponent has been downed, Samus can quickly run up to them to overpower them physically before blasting them with a point-blank Charge Beam, often destroying them instantly.
Melee Counter: A melee technique in which Samus swings up her Arm Cannon while an opponent charges, knocking them back and stunning them if timed properly and instantly readying a fully-charged beam.
Overblast: Samus jumps up onto her opponent, forcing them to the ground and firing a full-power Charge Beam into their head or another weak point at point-blank range, often instantly killing her target.
SenseMove: An evasive technique that uses the thrusters of Samus' suit to dodge and quickly react to an attack on her, immediately following up with a charged shot. Integrating some sort of precognitive ability, it allows Samus to easily react to attacks from out of view.Note: Tallon Chozo’s have reached full transcendence and enlightenment to the point that they were able to create equipment to hold off the Phazon curse that brought them back into the main universe. Due to this, the suits on Tallon would be far above any other suits made by other Chozos.
Note 2: Due to Samus' power normally shifting due to the suit reacting to her thoughts, the general consensus for her anti feats, such as planet explosions is Samus losing focus as she's worrying about the planet explosion, dropping her durability in the process.
