Background
Madotsuki (窓付き, lit. windowed) (pronounced /mɑˈdɒtsuː.kiː/) is the playable protagonist of Yume Nikki. She is one of the characters in Yume Nikki with an established name.
As with virtually everything else in the game, Madotsuki's identity and life are a mystery. Only what can be seen in-game can be considered canon, although there are many varying interpretations of her.
Although there is no indication nor canonicity of age given in the game, she is often depicted as a young person.
Madotsuki is the main protagonist of Yume Nikki. She spends most of the game sleeping in her room, exploring her own dreams.
In this incarnation, however, her personality is much more apparent. While initially appearing to be innocent and rather clueless, she quickly shows a much more violent side to herself. Moreover, more of the nature of the Dream World is revealed. It isn't directly her dream, instead being a representation of one's mind built by Mars-san in order to turn girls into "good girls".
Madotsuki is the first protagonist of the Yume Nikki novel. She explores her dream world to escape the boredom of the real world. She follows the same path as her game version, collecting the effects. She is also unknowingly helped by Poniko during this quest, as she cannot see her.
However, turns out that this incarnation of the character isn't the one who's dreaming. In fact, Poniko is the one who this dream belongs to. Madotsuki herself is just a manifestation of Poniko's subconscious that takes over Poniko's dreams when she is asleep. More precisely, she is the representation of Poniko's upcoming child, whose fate she is worried about.
