Background

Janemba is the main antagonist in Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai, and he appears in several other Dragon Ball media. He is a powerful demon and the living definition of evil.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Janemba’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!
Janemba appears as the primary antagonist of Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai. Being formed by the evil energy clumping together in Hell, Janemba begins interfering with multiple dimensions and timelines in an attempt to throw the universe into chaos. Throughout the game, he does things like spread evil energy across Earth, revives many empowered dead villains, and attempt to turn Vegeta into another body for himself. At the end of the game, he faces off against Kid Buu (who challenges him in Hell after escaping the area that Supreme Kai imprisoned him in thanks to Janemba's havoc) and is eventually finally defeated at the hands of Super Gogeta once more.

Codex Statistics

Tier: At least 6-C, Up to 5-B with Strongest Charged Blast

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: At least Island level (Fought against Shin Budokai Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku. Son Goku also in the game fought and defeated Broly. Far above Super Perfect Cell, who is far superior to his Semi-Perfect form, who destroyed several islands with several blast), Up to Planet level with Strongest Charged Blast (His strongest charged blast by this point should be superior to Super Perfect Cell's solar kamehameha which is shown that if it succeeded, it would've destroyed the entire planet)

Durability: At least Island level, Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard), Lower with Ki Control (Higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them)

Striking Strength: At least Island Class

Lifting Strength: Class 50 (Is superior to Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku, who is superior to his Super Saiyan Buu Saga self, who could casually fight while carrying 40 tons)

Travel Speed: Massively Hypersonic+ (Superior to Super Saiyan Son Goku on Namek, who previously in his base form traveled from Frieza's ship over to Vegeta in this timeframe)

Attack Speed: Massively Hypersonic+

Reaction Speed: Massively Hypersonic+ (Far beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could dodge a mouth blast from Tambourine, which he used to tag the flying nimbus where even post King Kai training Goku used the flying nimbus to make it to the saiyans implying it is at least comparable to his flight speed by then, with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds)

Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to Vegeta who stood thinking for three days without showing any signs of tiring or growing hungry)

Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun), Multi-Universal with Evil Energy (The evil energy spread across all of Earth and hell and across multiple timelines)

Intelligence: Animalistic (Janemba is the pure incarnation of evil having no true coherent thought and thinking merely like an animal and functioning on instinct)

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball have ki, the very life force energy of all characters, ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard, higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them. A users ki aura can exert itself as a weapon to attack), Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan, Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb, Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice, Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta, Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza, and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them), Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever), Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training), Power Absorption & Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others), Aura (Has an aura of ki surrounding him whenever he exerts ki), Vibration Manipulation (Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up), Intimidation, Spirit Manipulation & Pain Manipulation ( Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce, along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed, exerting fear into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power), Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast), Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions, control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy, or in front of them), Heat Manipulation (Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[1][2], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat), Nullification (Attack Nullification; Those with ki can nullify attacks of lesser ki with their ki alone. They can also catch and nullify ki attacks around their level through focusing enough[3]. Power Nullification; Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[4], which fully destroys a target[5], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[6], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers, along with even the likes of Son Goku), Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves. These forcefields can be expanded, and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user), Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode", in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks), Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to release all of the energy within them to cause a massive self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light), Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming), Non-Standard Interaction (Intangible Interaction; Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[7]. Space-Time Interaction; Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them), Healing (Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso, it can also heal from near death), Fusionism (Janemba can perform the Fusion Dance).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Can resist poisons through Forcefield Creation[8])

Weapon Mastery (Is a skilled user of his blade), Acrobatics, Flight, Immortality (Life and Death Immunity; Due to the King Enma being sealed, the dead were allowed to be reborn, essentially making it where they can't die. Reliance [On Source]; Janemba is formed from the evil energy, and will continously be reborn by it. The true Janemba is the barrier between Hell and the universe), Telekinesis (Can telekinetically control objects such as the jellybean-esque constructs in hell), Transmutation & Soul Manipulation ( Transformed the frozen souls of hell into mini versions of himself), Precognition (Analytical Prediction; Janemba can read movements as noted by Goku), Ice Manipulation (Froze beings by awakening), Attack Reflection (Can now use his portal creation to completely block attacks and send them back at the user), Extended Blade Range (His sword can leave massive AoE cuts just from swinging in front of himself along with cut from extremely far range), Body Control & Elasticity (Can enlongate his arm to stretch extremely far to grab his opponents), Matter Manipulation, Intangibility (Spatial), & Teleportation (Janemba can break down his matter to be completely intangible to attacks and teleport around to attack the opponent from out of nowhere), Blood Manipulation (Janemba can cut blood and crystalize it to trap enemies within it), Breath Attack (Can shoot ki attacks out of his mouth), Spike Manipulation (Can grab a piece of a spike and cause it to elongate and shift), Mimicry (Physiology Mimicry) & Energy Manipulation (Janemba is able to shoot an energy blast that forms a copy of the person its fighting. Noted to make copies of all the Z-Fighters), Barrier Creation (Janemba is the barrier. Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves. These forcefields can be expanded, and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user), Curtain Fire & Light Manipulation (With Lightning Shower Rain, Super Janemba traces his finger in the air and creates a streak of green energy light that breaks into sharp, glass-like needles then, he swings his arm back and fires the energy needles at his opponent, inflicting a high amount of damage).

Resistance to Extrasensory Perception (When breaking down his matter to be intangible and teleport around, Goku cannot ki sense him), Fire Manipulation (Completely unphased by being in fire), Soul Manipulation ( Janemba is an amalgamation of countless evil souls collected in the Soul Cleansing Machine)

All previous powers and abilities to a much greater extent, Enhanced Senses Negation (The evil energy makes it difficult to sense others presences), Life Manipulation (The evil energy created Janemba), Power Nullification (The evil energy has repeatedly nullified the Z-Fighter's abilities to sense one's ki or telepathically talk with one another through setting up barriers between worlds), Sealing (One that gets caught in the barrier gets sealed within it), Power Bestowal (The evil energy amplifies villains to be far stronger then they were prior), Corruption & Hell Manipulation (Anyone that takes in the evil energy will become evil themselves, with even good people be affected), Multipresence (The evil energy is present in multiple timelines and places), Space-Time Manipulation (The evil energy causes distortions in space and time, using these distortions to bring Cell back), Portal Creation (The evil energy created portals across different timelines), Spatial Manipulation (The evil energy has been twisting space around), Mimicry (Physiology Mimicry; The evil energy creates fake copies of people)

Equipment

  • Dimension Sword: An Ogre's club transformed into Janemba's personal sword via Matter Manipulation.

Notable Techniques

  • Flight: The ability to fly through magical prowess.
  • Ki Blast: Janemba is capable of firing destructive ki blasts or projectiles from either his hands or mouth.
  • Instant Transmission: Janemba teleports behind the opponent by locking onto their energy signature.
  • Cloning: Janemba is able to create small copies of himself and others, such as when he creates a clone of Goku to counter the latter's Kamehameha. Super Janemba also displays the ability to create clones of other people in the story of Shin Budokai, such as when he creates a perfect copy of Goku out of magic and later a clone of Majin Vegeta and when he creates clone of himself in the form of a sentient wall which surrounds King Yemma's castle.
  • Dimension Sword Attack: This technique is used in his final form when he stabs at his opponent through portals using his sword in similar manner to Illusion Smash.
  • Evil Energy: Janemba is born from and maintained by evil energy. Evil energy appears as purple clouds. When enough evil energy clumps together, or takes over a person, it takes on a physical body, becoming Janemba. As shown in the Shin Budokai games, if Janemba's physical body is destroyed, he will revert to his evil energy state until evil energy clumps together or a new host is found. Evil energy appears in places and planes of existence where Janemba goes, but if Janemba's physical form is destroyed by good energy, then all the released evil energy on that plane of existence will be destroyed.

Other

Standard Tactics: Janemba uses the help of the evil energy to either create clones, attack people with his sword, or use ki attacks.
