Occupation: Magical Girl
Status: Deceased (Died in the first timeline) | Alive | Other (After destroying her witch, her life has ceased to have either a beginning or end[3]. Noted by Kyubey that Homura Akemi doing all of those timeline resets made Madoka the strongest witch of them all[14]) | At least Planet level, likely Far Higher (Madoka at this point has the power of all of her karmic destiny combined along with a wish that changes the very laws of causality, massively amplifying her power to a state beyond any magical girl in existence[15], one-shotted her witch form which was so large it was enveloping the entire earth[16]). Would eventually become Universe level (Buster) (Her soul gems power was noted to bring forth enough hope to give birth to an entire universe and enough despair to bring an end to the entire universe[17]) | Universe level (Buster) (Her soul gems power was noted to bring forth enough hope to give birth to an entire universe and enough despair to bring an end to the entire universe[18]. Can travel across the many universes to stop witches from transforming[26], which has infinite universes)
Intelligence: Average Intelligence (Madoka is portrayed as an average student, though she was shown in the first timeline to be a competent enough magical girl, the main reason for her strength in later timelines is due to Homura Akemi). Cosmic Intelligence as Ultimate Madoka (As Ultimate Madoka becomes one with the laws of cycles, she can now see everything that ever has or will happen, both the universes that could have been and the universes that might one day be[27])

Powers and Techniques
Equipment
- Bow: With her bow, she can fire arrows of energy to attack with and even fire several at once to attack several enemies.
- Ultimate Madoka's Bow: A far more powerful bow created from her Ultimate Madoka form.
Optioanl Equipment
- Spell Books: Spell Books are earned whenever you complete a mission. Since you can always attempt missions, there is no limit to the number of spell books you can earn, and buying/upgrading all Special Magics and Support Skills for all characters is possible.
Notable Techniques
- Wish: Throughout the entire series, revealed by various pieces of story. Madoka has made various wishes throughout the timelines:
- Her original wish, was to save a black cat named Amy from dying.
- In The Different Story, she wished to save Sayaka Miki.
- In one of her routes in Portable, she wishes: "If I make a contract with you, can Sayaka's body return to normal?"
- Her final wish: "I want to erase all witches before they are even born. I will erase every single witch in every universe, past and future with my own hands... I don't care what you call it. All those Magical Girls who held onto their hopes and fought against witches I don't want to see them cry. I want them to stay smiling until the end. If any rule or law stands in my way, I will destroy it. I will rewrite it. That is my prayer. That is my wish. Now grant it, Incubator!"
- Energy Bow: With her bow, she can fire arrows of energy to attack with and even fire several at once to attack several enemies.
- Corruption Removal: As both Ultimate Madoka and regular Madoka she can remove the corruptions of Soul Gems either by touching them [Ultimate Madoka] or through transforming into a Magical Girl, the impurities from her Soul Gem magically disappear [regular Madoka].
- Tiro Duet: A dual attack Madoka performs with Mami in The Rebellion Story. It is a variant of Mami's Tiro Finale.
- Connect: A technique used by Magical Girls in Magia Record. By joining hands, they are able to fuse their weapons and make a strong variant based on them.
Other
Weaknesses: Magical Girls lose control of their avatars if their soul gems are 100 meters away from their bodies[194]. If a Magical Girl blocks out the pain, their reaction time gets slowed by a bit[195]. The more a magical girl uses magic, the more their soul gem becomes packed with impurities, making them unable to exert the full magic power[196]. If the Magical Girls abuse their Doppels too much, they will fuse to them and become corrupted[197]. Madoka's kindness is both her greatest strength and weakness, refusing to accept the idea of magical girls fighting other magical girls no matter what actions they did, leading to her causing problems such as throwing Sayaka Miki's soul gem on a truck, nearly killing Sayaka if Homura Akemi didn't go to retrieve it. | As Ultimate Madoka, none of these weaknesses truly apply to her anymore, however if her memory is erased she will lose her powers as Ultimate Madoka, reverting back to her regular self[198]. Ultimate Madoka also cannot interact with reality, only being able to enter it when a magical girl becomes a witch to stop them from turning into one[199].
Note: Despite how it may seem, Ultimate Madoka did not erase Madoka from every single universe, only the universe of the anime, as Madoka's still exist in other universes.
Note 2: Madoka never erased the concept of witches, this is a misunderstanding of the scene, what Madoka did was go through every point in space-time and purify Magical Girls before they became witches, bringing them to the law of cycles. Madoka also did not rewrite the entire multiverse, as shown in the previous note, other Madoka's still exist and she only directly affected her universe.
Trivia
- Madoka owns many stuffed animals in her room.
- One of Madoka's stuffed animals resembles Lady from Disney's movie "Lady and the Tramp".
- Madoka loves cats like Homura.
- According with Urobuchi, he made Junko a strong woman so Madoka would want to emulate her strength and courage.
- Madoka's last form is known as Ultimate Madoka. Prior to this information, fans called her form "MadoKami", Godoka, or Goddess Madoka.
- In one of the original artwork designs, it is noted that Madoka is holding a shinai sword or a bow.
- Wehihihi ♥ "ウェヒヒヒヒ" is an onomatopoeia for Madoka's trademark laughter. You can hear it here. (Or here.)
- Gen Urobuchi tweeted that he chose October 3 as Madoka's birthday, because that was the day when the ‘Mahou Shoujo Apocalypse Madoka☆Magica Project’ document was created[1].
- The project was developed under the working title "Mahō Shōjo Mokushiroku Madoka☆Magica", ("Magical Girl Revelation Madoka☆Magica" or "Maho Shojo Apocalypse Madoka☆Magica"), a reference to the Bible.
- 黙示録 specifically refers to the Book of Revelation.
- The project was developed under the working title "Mahō Shōjo Mokushiroku Madoka☆Magica", ("Magical Girl Revelation Madoka☆Magica" or "Maho Shojo Apocalypse Madoka☆Magica"), a reference to the Bible.
- There is a petition to change the official name of the NGC 6357 nebula to the "Madokami nebula".
- As an adult, she looks similar to her Ultimate Madoka form, though without the pigtails.
- Up until Magia Record, Madoka is the only one without a transformation sequence as a magical girl within the anime series; however during the anime's opening scenes, she does appear in a transformation sequence.
- It is suggested that the reason Madoka is so miserable is that she wishes for power in order to be selfless so that she won't be miserable any more. Kyubey uses this to manipulate Madoka's thinking into making her wish through her guilt. He tries to manipulate Madoka into a belief that she can be free from her misery by making a selfless wish.
- Without the wish and the life experience as a magical girl, Madoka's character never grows and develops into a courageous heroine. However, her life experience as a scared teenage girl, constantly crying and mourning the death of so many, always wanting to do what's right yet feeling powerless, the failure of attempting to save friends and strangers, and the sorrow she feels for the victims of innocent girls deceived by a calculating cold alien allows Madoka to finally develop the courage to confront her fears to save Homura and the world, instead of succumbing to despair and running away. In other words Madoka finally grows up. The scene with her mother in Episode 11 leaves that impression.
- It is speculated that any wish Madoka ever made would be twisted because of the nature of the wish, according with Episode 11. Kyubey suspects that as long as the motives are selfish, the wish will always be twisted because the wishers' desire would always fail to meet their expectation.
- Madoka may have realized that as long as her thinking was selfish or incorrect, then her wish would also be twisted. It is suspected that Madoka contemplates what to do to save Homura and her town in Episode 11, without being caught into the snare of the wish's trap. It is suspected that Madoka goes from wanting to be selfless for selfish reasons to wanting to be selfless for selflessness itself. By removing Madoka's selfish desire from her wish, she literally removes her self and her physical presence as a consequence.
- A philosophical analysis tries to determine Madoka's motive here.

- An argument can be said that Madoka has two ways to develop her courage. One is through Kyubey by magic (which is the easiest path); the other way is more difficult and hurtful, the painful life experience and lessons she receives through friends, family members, and from strangers. But the most influential character in Madoka's life would be her mother; her source of wisdom, courage, and strength.
- The characters of her last name mean "deer" (鹿) and "eye"(目), respectively.
- Her last name can also be used as a first name.
- Her last name sounds the same as (要), a word which means "keystone" or "hub".
- Madoka could also mean "wish" or "ambition" or "flower".
- The name Madoka can be written with the character for "circle" or "round" in kanji (円) reflecting the cyclical nature of the magical girl-witch incubator relationship as well as the circular repetition of timelines that revolve around her. It could also be written with the character for "wish" or "ambition"; the connotations of that should be obvious. Her last name, Kaname, can also be read as "pivot" or "vital point", which is apt to say the least due to Homura's time-meddling making Madoka's existence the pivotal point of every timeline she creates.
