Drolta Tzuentes
From The Codex
“ | She is a mysterious old witch and a servant of Elizabeth. She obstructs the vampire hunters quest by controlling demons. | „ |
~ Drolta's description in Castlevania: The Next Generation European instruction booklet, page 56. |
Background
Drolta Tzuentes is a character from Castlevania: Bloodlines. She is a mysterious and enigmatic witch who serves Elizabeth Bartley. Using her mastery of dark magic, Drolta successfully revived her mistress from a centuries-long slumber.
Some time before 1917, Drolta used her dark magic to resurrect Count Dracula's niece, Elizabeth Bartley. Together, they devised a scheme to revive the Dark Lord. To hinder John Morris, a descendant of the Belmont family, and his ally Eric Lecarde, Drolta enchanted a Mecha-Knight to block their path.
The Castlevania: Bloodlines instruction booklet for the American release describes Drolta as an "amateur witch" whose spell unintentionally brought Elizabeth Bartley back to life. However, this depiction is absent from the Japanese instruction booklet.

Golem with his ultimate can shoot out a mouth blast that vaporizes everything it touches as far as the eye can see getting these results[19]. Vampires can move so fast that the light itself cannot keep up with them, leaving an afterimage behind[25]. Powers and Techniques
Is a Creature of the Night, which gives:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[31], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[32]), Intimidation (Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[33]), Immortality (Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[34]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Creatures of the Night can continue to exist even as a spirit and use their spirit form to form bodies out of inanimate material around them[35]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[36]. With their souls being completely free from time[37]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[38]), Free Will (Creatures of the Night do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[39]), Empowerment (Creatures of the night are empowered by the night[40], becoming stronger when it's night time[41]), Evolution (Creatures of chaos can inherit evil natures[42] awakening into stronger enemies with new abilities and less weaknesses[43]), Resurrection (Self-Resurrection; Creatures of chaos can be brought back to life from the power of hate[44]. This has also been shown with slain heads reviving as an angry wraith[45]), Regeneration (Mid-Godly overtime; Even the castle from Castlevania is a Creature of Chaos[46], where they are always rebirth from Chaos with each rebirth, the creatures takes a new form[47], with this state being referred to as a "regeneration cycle"[48]), Invisibility (Creatures of Chaos possess a natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[49]), Time Manipulation (1-T, Passive; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[50]), Darkness Manipulation & Subjective Reality (Creatures of chaos very existence causes dark powers to flow beyond the control of the Elgos' grimoires, due to them collecting documented information on Dracula and his castle. Causing their power to materialize in the real world in the form of monsters[51]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[52], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[53]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[54]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[55]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[56], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[57], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[58], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[59]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[60]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[61], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[62]), Law Manipulation (Creatures of Chaos can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[63]), Power Modification (Creatures of the night alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[64]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[65]).
Equipment
- Scepter: A magic scepter Drolta uses in combat against opponents, allowing her for various magic attacks.
Notable Techniques
- Energy Balls: Drolta shoots out two energy balls across two sides of the screen and move to hit the opponent.
- Energy Beam: Drolta duplicates into four of herself and proceeds to shoot a massive energy beam from all four of them.
Other
Standard Tactics: Drolta will move around, causing afterimages behind her while either shooting out two energy balls or duplicating into four of herself and shooting down energy beams.
Weaknesses
- Creature of the Night Weaknesses: Creatures of the night become weaker when exposed to the morning sun[132]. Garlic significantly weakens creatures of the night[133], and causes demons to die if its placed on the ground[134]. If a vital soul is defeated, the grimoire will revert back to its original content[135].
- Unique Weaknesses: Nothing notable.
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[136]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[137], a knight who has natural holy powers[138]. Corrupted enemies such as Charlie Vincent, use holy water attacks on Carrie and Reinhardt[139]. Characters like Jonathan Morris wear armor like the Holy Mail, an armor that reduces damage from holy attacks[140].
Trivia
- Many were not aware that her fight was a different person from Dracula and just assumed it was Dracula's second form, however her sprite matches her official artwork.
- Drolta is based on Dorottya Szentes (Dorotya Semtész), one of Erzsébet Báthory's servants who was one of three people said to have been tried, convicted, and executed as accomplices to the crimes committed by the "Blood Countess".
- This connection was also discussed in an internal fax to Electronic Gaming Monthly, although a notable difference between the historical and game characters was that the latter was not simply an accomplice in the murders, but also directly responsible for planting the idea into Elizabeth Bartley's head beforehand.
- According to Beep! MegaDrive, Drolta might have been an alternate form of Death, explaining her supposed absence from the game[141].
- This is incorrect however, the game manuals explain her as her own person and as a servant of Elizabeth Bartley.

Several hundred years have passed with battles with the [dark lord] Dracula.
When suddenly, an end to it all has been foretold. 1999----- Thanks to the power of a clan in Japan, Dracula’s castle was sealed inside a [solar eclipse] to disappear forever.
However, in this world, there is no such thing as forever. [They] had understood that Dracula’s regeneration cycle ought to have ended. Indeed, people have prepared for this but will it still exist? “Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
However-----
Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul." - ↑ Castlevania: Curse of Darkness Bestiary No. 115
