Background

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Ryu's story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Pre-Street Fighter
As a young child, Ryu was left orphaned with no memory of his parents or their fate. He recalls being placed in the care of a priest at an unidentified temple before being discovered and adopted by Gouken. Gouken raised Ryu in his secluded dojo, teaching him martial arts and discipline. During his upbringing, Ryu observed Gouken, Goutetsu, and Akuma train together, shaping his understanding of combat.

Later, Gouken began training Ken Masters, the son of his close friend. Ken became both Ryu’s sparring partner and closest friend, giving him companionship and a brotherly bond that endures into adulthood.

At the age of 23, Gouken deemed Ryu ready to embark on a journey to refine his skills against other martial artists across the world. After completing their training, Ken joked about who would achieve fame first, while Ryu set out for Thailand to challenge Sagat, the Emperor of Muay Thai, known as one of the world’s strongest fighters.

Street Fighter (1987)
Upon arriving in Thailand, Ryu realized he couldn’t simply issue a challenge to Sagat as an unknown fighter. To draw his attention, he devised a plan to defeat multiple Muay Thai practitioners, believing word of his victories would eventually reach Sagat. His goal was to provoke the Emperor of Muay Thai into a fight to defend his art’s honor.

Ryu went on to defeat twenty Muay Thai fighters, openly taunting them for allowing a foreigner to disgrace their discipline. Hearing of this, Sagat’s pride and fighting spirit were ignited, and he confronted Ryu, vowing to demonstrate the true strength of Muay Thai. The two fought intensely, but Ryu ultimately triumphed, striking Sagat with a powerful Shoryuken that left him unconscious and permanently scarred across the chest. When Sagat awoke and realized what had happened, he swore revenge on Ryu.

Street Fight Alpha Series
After leaving Sagat behind, Ryu spent several months traveling and training, reflecting on the question, “What is the meaning of anything in life?” Having defeated Sagat—once regarded as the strongest man in the world—Ryu wondered if that made him the strongest and if he had already achieved his life’s purpose. Refusing to believe his journey was complete, he continued his training, developing new techniques along the way.

During his travels, Ryu encountered Akuma on a remote island called Gokuentou. After defeating him, Ryu learned that Akuma had only been testing his strength. Akuma sensed that Ryu possessed the same dark energy within him—the Satsui no Hado, a power that drives its wielder to win at any cost, even through killing. Akuma demonstrated his power by striking the ground and shattering the island, leaving Ryu stranded.

Eventually escaping the island, Ryu was confronted again by Sagat, who sought revenge for his prior loss. Ryu tried to dissuade him, noting Sagat’s injuries, but Sagat insisted. Out of respect, Ryu allowed Sagat to win rather than cause him further harm. Later, Sagat realized Ryu had held back, strengthening his resolve to challenge him again someday.

Not long after, Ken reunited with Ryu and noticed his troubled state. When Ryu questioned what it truly meant to be a fighter—whether to use the same fist that defeated Sagat or one driven by Akuma’s murderous intent—Ken challenged him to a match to help him regain focus. After their fight, Ken advised Ryu to keep seeking his answer through battle and gifted him his red headband as a symbol of their friendship and rivalry. Ryu accepted it gratefully, and the two parted ways. Shortly after, Ryu met Sakura, an admirer who wanted to train under him. Though he declined, saying he still had much to learn himself, he allowed her to take a picture with him.

Still haunted by Akuma’s words, Ryu later met Rose, who warned him that defeating M. Bison would require sacrificing his own soul. When Ryu eventually faced Bison, he fought fiercely but was ultimately defeated and taken captive. Bison began to brainwash him, revealing that Ryu’s Satsui no Hado was similar to his own Psycho Power.

Ken, Sagat, and Sakura soon arrived, each seeking Ryu for their own reasons. While Ken and Sakura distracted Bison, Sagat confronted the brainwashed Ryu and managed to reach his consciousness. Regaining control, Ryu overcame Bison and temporarily destroyed him.

Street Fighter II
Ryu entered the World Warrior tournament to test his strength against new challengers, unaware that the event had been organized by Shadaloo with the goal of capturing him. During the tournament, he sent a letter to Ken, reigniting his friend’s competitive spirit. While the exact outcome of Ryu’s participation is uncertain, different sources offer varying accounts. The English version of Street Fighter: Eternal Challenge implies he may have lost to Ken, though this version’s details are not supported by other materials. According to Street Fighter II: Complete File, Ryu defeated both Ken and M. Bison, while Gamest 255 (1999) suggests he avoided Bison’s fiery remains after Akuma destroyed him, implying Ryu reached the finals.

Supplementary materials indicate that Ryu likely defeated Zangief and Blanka during the tournament. In the semifinals, he faced Sagat once again, who now fought him with respect rather than resentment. Ryu ultimately triumphed, advancing to the finals to confront M. Bison.

In Street Fighter IV: Aftermath, Ryu is depicted aiding Guile, Ken, Chun-Li, and Cammy in their battle against Bison. Bison rejects Guile’s call to surrender and releases his full Psycho Power in a suicidal explosion, though this scene’s canonical status remains unconfirmed. Capcom’s reprints of All About Street Fighter books and later appearances in Street Fighter V reinforce the version in which Akuma kills Bison, leaving the tournament’s true winner officially unknown.

In his HD Remix ending, Ryu departs the tournament after defeating Bison and visits his master’s grave to share his victory and experiences. Reflecting on his journey, he declares that the ultimate battle still awaits him and sets off once more, reaffirming his belief that the fight itself is all that matters.

In Ken’s HD Remix ending, Ryu appears in a photograph alongside Guile, dressed in a tuxedo but still wearing his red headband—marking the first instance in the series where he is seen wearing anything other than his gi.

Street Fighter IV
Ryu is first seen lying conscious on the ground of a large campsite surrounded by fireflies in the middle of the night. As he watches one drift by, the area is suddenly engulfed in Gohadokens fired by Akuma, setting the surroundings ablaze. Looking up, Ryu sees Akuma, who seizes him by the head and questions why he refuses to embrace the Satsui no Hado, accusing him of cowardice. Akuma throws Ryu to the ground and compares his path to that of their late master, calling it one of weakness and doom. As Ryu stares into the flames, he recalls several memories: watching Gouken and Akuma fight, meeting Gen in the rain who warned that all who live by the warrior’s code must face death, and being carried by Gouken as a child to the dojo. Akuma prepares to leave, but Ryu rises to fight him. During the battle, Ryu manages to launch Akuma into the air and charges a Shinku Hadoken, but Akuma interrupts with a barrage of Messatsu Gohados. After dodging them and countering with a Shoryuken, Ryu begins charging a Metsu Hadoken. Just before releasing it, Ken intervenes with a Shinryuken, scolding Ryu for trying to face Akuma alone.

Following the World Warrior tournament, Ryu continues his travels and trains in a remote desert. Remembering Akuma’s demand that he embrace the Dark Hado or die, he eventually leaves and visits a bar, where a biker tells him a story about an American martial arts champion who abandoned his family. Believing it to be Ken, Ryu goes to the man’s house but is ambushed by C. Viper. Before the fight escalates, Cammy attempts to ambush Viper but is quickly overpowered. The Dark Hado then overwhelms Ryu, who attacks Viper and defeats her before she narrowly escapes. Consumed by rage, Ryu kills several S.I.N. scientists until Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, and Sakura arrive to stop him and rescue Cammy.

Sakura restrains the corrupted Ryu while Ken contacts help for Cammy. Ryu soon regains control and realizes what he’s done. Staying at Ken’s mansion, he learns he is being targeted by S.I.N. and its leader, Seth. When Guile proposes infiltrating Seth’s cruise ship, Ryu joins the mission knowing Seth will be waiting for him. After boarding the ship, Ryu and Ken fight their way through S.I.N. soldiers until Ryu confronts Seth. Seth easily overpowers Ryu while preaching his warped views on power. Ryu admits he doesn’t understand true strength but rejects Seth’s philosophy. Enraged, Seth continues his assault until Ryu awakens a new power and nearly kills him before collapsing. Afterward, he senses that same power within Ken. The two part ways days later, with Ryu assuring they will meet again.

Ryu later enters another tournament to further refine his skills and face Ken once more. Along the way, he meets Sakura and encourages her to train harder. He also reunites with Sagat for another duel—though the outcome is uncertain, it is implied Ryu wins. In the tournament’s final battle, Ryu defeats a copy of Seth within the S.I.N. headquarters. As the building collapses, he unleashes the Satsui no Hado on the BLECE machine, a weapon designed to channel human energy. When Sakura arrives, the machine releases a burst that knocks her back, prompting Ryu to destroy it with a Shoryuken before they both escape.

Afterward, Ryu encounters Gouken, who survived his previous battle with Akuma. Gouken uses the Power of Nothingness to seal the Satsui no Hado within Ryu, rendering him unconscious. Akuma then arrives and challenges Gouken to a death match, intending to claim Ryu as the victor’s prize. The result of the duel is unclear, though Ryu’s later freedom from the Dark Hado suggests Gouken prevailed or the fight ended unresolved.

Later, Ryu and Ken track Gouken along a cliffside, with Ken asking him to stay while Ryu offers him his respects. The two then travel together through the desert, passing Rufus whose motorcycle breaks down as they drive past in Ken’s jeep. Eventually, Ryu bids farewell to Sakura, Dan, and Blanka as they depart on a cruise. Sometime afterward, he meets Sakura again, now older, reflecting that his battles have strengthened him. It is suggested that before the events of Street Fighter III, Gouken may have taught Ryu the Shin Shoryuken and Denjin Hadoken techniques.

Street Fighter V Arcade
Ryu dreams of battling his dark self, who tempts him with the belief that killing grants power. Ryu rejects this notion, but in the midst of a sparring session with Gouken, he becomes momentarily consumed by the Satsui no Hado and launches a Hadoken. The attack erupts in a bright flash, waking Ryu from his dream. Gouken warns him that the dark power nearly overtook him.

Ryu later travels to Brazil, where Rashid and Azam approach him. Introducing himself as a hero seeking to test his strength, Rashid asks to fight Ryu. Initially hesitant, Ryu refuses due to his fear of losing control to the Satsui no Hado. This confuses Rashid and prompts Gouken to question why he won’t fight, reminding him of his own saying: “The answer lies in the heart of battle.” Ryu eventually agrees and defeats Rashid in their match. Grateful, Rashid thanks him for the experience before departing. Gouken advises Ryu to visit Ken, who has been worried about him.

Ryu reunites with Ken in Brazil. Aware of Ryu’s internal struggle, Ken suggests they spar to help him confront it. After the fight, Ryu still expresses concern about succumbing to the Satsui no Hado. Ken reassures him, promising to stop him if that ever happens, and encourages Ryu to relax and enjoy fighting for its own sake.

In China, Ryu is ambushed by a Shadaloo soldier but is saved by Nash, who had been seeking him out. The confrontation stirs the Satsui no Hado within Ryu, prompting Nash to challenge him to understand the limits of his power. Their match ends in a draw, and Nash acknowledges Ryu’s strength while noting his ongoing internal conflict. Ryu admits his struggle to suppress the dark force but vows not to let it control him. Nash respects his resolve, and the two part ways on mutual understanding.

Ryu appears in his Alpha attire during Ken’s prologue flashback, depicting their match from the events of Street Fighter Alpha 2, where Ryu is defeated by Ken.

Ryu appears in Rashid’s prologue story, which serves as a continuation of his own prologue, revealing the outcome of their sparring match.

In Laura’s prologue, she challenges Ryu in her search for strong opponents. During their battle, she becomes intrigued by the presence of the Satsui no Hado within him.

A simulation of Ryu, modeled after his Alpha appearance, appears in Alex’s prologue. The simulated Ryu leaves a scar on Alex’s right cheek before being defeated.

Ryu appears in Akuma’s prologue story, where Akuma challenges him in a duel symbolizing the clash between light and darkness — the Satsui no Hado and the Mu no Ken. Akuma wins the battle, and Ryu, lying on the ground, tells him he has walked the path of the demon. Akuma responds that their paths will cross again at the end of Ryu’s journey.

In Sakura’s story, set after A Shadow Falls, Karin mentions Ryu’s participation in the final assault against Shadaloo. Later, Karin sends Ryu to check on Sakura, leading to a sparring match between them. Sakura defeats Ryu and, pleased with her progress, is left flustered after an awkward exchange about strength.

Ryu appears in Kage’s story, taking place after M. Bison’s defeat and the suppression of the Satsui no Hado. While meditating at Suzaku Castle, Ryu is confronted by Kage, who seeks recognition after defeating Sagat and Akuma. Ryu refuses to acknowledge him as his true self and declines to fight, prompting Kage to attack. After their clash, Ryu tells Kage he may exist or vanish as he chooses. As Kage fades away for good, Ryu feels relief that his torment has finally ended.

Ryu appears in E. Honda’s story, meditating at Honda’s bathhouse. Honda scolds him for his behavior, leading to a brief sparring match in which Ryu loses. Honda advises him to relax in the hot bath, which Ryu takes to heart, emerging more at ease.

Street Fighter V A Shadow Falls
Ryu visits Dhalsim, who is training Mahesh, and admits he is still struggling with the Satsui no Hado, seeking Dhalsim’s guidance. They decide to spar, after which Dhalsim warns him that continually suppressing the power will only cause it to consume him. Instead, he urges Ryu to confront and overcome it. Their conversation is interrupted when Necalli suddenly descends from above, intent on consuming their souls. As Dhalsim protects Mahesh, Ryu battles Necalli but is soon overpowered, nearly succumbing to the dark power within him. Dhalsim intercepts Ryu’s attack and reminds him not to give in, before fending off Necalli himself. During the confrontation, Ryu notices a Black Moon blocking out the sun, causing him to experience visions of M. Bison. Necalli eventually disintegrates, and Dhalsim explains that Necalli is an ancient entity that consumes the souls of powerful warriors, appearing only during great crises. Ryu concludes that the world’s turmoil stems from the Black Moons.

Having conquered the Satsui no Hado and defeated Necalli, Ryu later reunites with Ken, Chun-Li, and Karin to launch the final assault against Shadaloo. As Chun-Li defeats F.A.N.G. and rescues Li-Fen, Ryu faces M. Bison, declaring that his strength comes from perseverance. The two engage in an intense battle, culminating with Ryu striking Bison with a Hadoken infused with the Power of Nothingness, signifying his mastery of it and the purification of the Satsui no Hado. Bison’s body fractures and vanishes in a blinding light, marking his defeat. As the Shadaloo base begins to collapse, Ryu helps Guile, Chun-Li, and Li-Fen escape, using his Denjin Hadoken to quell the ensuing flames.

After the events, Ryu meditates in peace until Ken visits him once more, proposing a friendly spar to see if Ryu has found his answer. During the match, Ryu defeats Ken, who manages to knock off Ryu’s red headband. Seeing it fall, Ryu realizes he has discovered his true strength. Smiling, Ken congratulates him on his growth, and Ryu remarks that he still needs his headband for the battles ahead. The two end their match with a respectful fist bump, reaffirming their enduring bond.

Street Fighter III
In his 30s, Ryu continues traveling daily to refine his martial arts skills. His relationship with Ken has cooled due to Ken becoming a father. After some time in Japan, Ryu is invited to a hot spring inn, where Ken introduces him to his new student. Ryu, Ken, and the student Sean later witness a WWCA title match between Zangief and Hogen. When Hogen goes on a rampage, Ryu deflects a thrown chair to protect the crowd, and Sean intervenes to neutralize Hogen.

Ryu participates in the World Warrior tournament to further test his abilities. He spars with Sean, easily defeating him with minimal effort. A year later, Ryu meets Ken for a friendly match, winning the bout. He also encounters Alex, defeating him and encouraging the young wrestler to train against strong opponents. In Oro’s ending, Ryu is shown training while unaware of Oro’s presence, only hearing his voice.

In his Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike ending, Ryu is depicted practicing under a waterfall, reflecting on the meaning of a true warrior and the importance of strength. A falling leaf lands on him, which he crushes with his left hand. He resolves that facing strong opponents and challenging battles will motivate him to continue improving and push his abilities further.

Street Fighter 6 Ryu: The Path
Ryu continues training to achieve true strength, traveling the world to face worthy opponents. Having overcome the Satsui no Hado, he seeks to reach even greater heights.

Ryu recounts his journey, reflecting on friends like Ken, Guile, Chun-Li, and Dhalsim, as well as enemies including Retsu, Sagat, Akuma, and M. Bison. Having freed himself from the Satsui no Hado, he continues his quest to find opponents stronger than himself.

At Genbu Temple, Luke asks Ryu for a fight. Ryu first questions Luke about the purpose of the match. After some thought, Luke admits he wants to fight someone stronger than him. Seeing Luke's determination, Ryu agrees. Ryu wins the match and leaves before Luke can take a photo, though Luke captures a picture of Ryu from behind, noting it resembles Ryu in his early years.

Street Fighter 6 World Tour
Ryu returns to Japan after training abroad and begins training at Genbu Temple. A priest at the temple invites him to a festival involving carrying a portable shrine. Fighters such as Luke and Lily visit the temple intending to challenge Ryu. He is aware of Ken's situation but chooses not to intervene, understanding Ken's reasons for remaining distant. Ryu informs the Avatar that he plans to stay in Japan for the time being.

Following encounters with Akuma and a still-alive but amnesiac M. Bison, Ryu assists Luke and others in overcoming their fear of Akuma. He is among the fighters who confront M. Bison in their final encounter during the A Shadow Falls event.

Appearance

General Description: Ryu has a lean but powerful build shaped by years of relentless training, giving him a weathered yet disciplined presence. His appearance has evolved across his journey, shifting from a traditional martial artist look to a more seasoned, world-worn fighter, while still retaining the iconic silhouette that defines him.

Facial Features: He typically has medium-length hair that has appeared in varying shades over the years, ranging from red in his earliest depiction to deep black in later titles, sometimes shown with a bluish tint. His eyebrows are thick and set above steady, focused eyes, and in more recent depictions he sports a rough beard that adds to his rugged, wandering-warrior aesthetic.

Clothing/Outfit: Ryu is most commonly seen in a tattered white gi with the sleeves torn off, secured with a black martial-arts belt marked with the Fūrinkazan characters. He traditionally wears red sparring gloves and goes barefoot by preference, though he has briefly worn training slippers or sandals in certain appearances. Over the years his gi has become more worn and frayed, and in Street Fighter 6 he adopts a more travel-worn look — hand wraps replaced by brown gloves, white cloth bindings around his midsection, and brown sandals. He often carries a large duffel bag during his travels, packed with essentials for life on the road.

Special Features: His trademark red headband, originally gifted by Ken, is a defining part of his appearance and has occasionally been swapped out for white variants. The kanji on his belt references ancient battlefield philosophy, reinforcing his disciplined warrior ethos. Alternate outfits have included prayer bead bracelets, shoulder bands, padded gloves, and visible wraps meant to represent sustained physical dedication.

Alternate Forms/Disguises: Ryu has appeared in various alternate outfits across different media. In Street Fighter II V and Street Fighter 6 World Tour, he dons casual clothing such as fitted shirts, jeans, and sneakers — sometimes paired with a letterman-style jacket — giving him a modern, grounded look away from combat. Some designs depict him with a fundoshi in bathhouse scenes, showcasing his physique during moments of rest or meditation. His Street Fighter V and Street Fighter 6 secondary outfits emphasize a monk-like aesthetic, including a worn kasaya-style cloth reminiscent of Gouken, as well as later costumes that experiment with full beards, layered wraps, and modified streetwear elements.

Personality

  • Temperament: Ryu is calm, humble, and grounded, rarely letting pride or ego influence his actions. He carries himself with quiet confidence and approaches challenges with patience and respect.
  • Discipline and Focus: His life revolves around constant self-improvement through martial arts. He devotes himself to training and personal refinement, seeking strength not for glory, but to better understand himself and his art.
  • Simplicity and Detachment: Ryu lives modestly and has little interest in luxury or status. He travels endlessly, valuing the journey and the lessons it brings more than any recognition or reward.
  • Empathy and Kindness: Though reserved, he is compassionate and protective toward others, especially those weaker or in need. He treats children gently and encourages fellow fighters with sincerity and respect.
  • Social Nature: Ryu can seem distant due to his wandering lifestyle and unfamiliarity with everyday culture, but he enjoys simple moments with friends and occasionally shows dry, understated humor.
  • Honor and Integrity: He admires worthy opponents and acknowledges strength wherever he finds it, even among those considered antagonistic. His sense of honor is rooted in personal growth rather than moral superiority.
  • Inner Conflict: Despite his serene nature, Ryu constantly battles his darker impulses, the Satsui no Hado. He works to stay grounded through discipline and the support of trusted friends and rivals.
  • Personal Interests: Outside of training, he enjoys experiencing local cultures and foods during his travels, showing simple tastes and an appreciation for tradition.
  • Convictions: Ryu follows his own path above all else. While he will help protect others when needed, his purpose remains mastering his martial discipline, even if that path places him outside conventional heroism.

Goals

  • Perfecting the true way of the warrior (Ongoing).
  • Traveling the world in search for stronger fighters to battle (Ongoing).
  • Finding a way to not give into the Satsui no Hado (Completed).

Relationships

Ken Masters

Ryu is completely dedicated to his journey of self-improvement. Ken shows great flexibility in his dealings with what comes his way. Their personalities could not be more different, Yet they got along so swimmingly during their training. After so many years, their relationship remains strong.
~ Gouken on Ryu and Ken's relationship[1]

Ken is Ryu’s closest friend and training partner, having grown up alongside him while learning Ansatsuken under Gouken. Their bond runs deep, and both consistently support one another through personal and martial challenges. Ken is attentive to Ryu’s state of mind, such as during the Alpha era when he gave Ryu his red headband to help him stay focused and grounded. He also encourages Ryu’s continued growth, as seen when he urges him to keep training before confronting larger threats.

Despite Ryu’s focus on constant improvement, the two make time to stay connected. Ken invited Ryu to his wedding, and Ryu accepted, and Ryu has also invited Ken to relax with him on occasion, highlighting a mutual respect and friendship beyond fighting. Ken sometimes worries that Ryu views him as privileged or less serious due to his background, while Ryu sees Ken as one of the few people he can confide in regarding his internal struggles. Their relationship carries occasional frustration, such as Ken’s annoyance when others constantly ask him about Ryu’s whereabouts, but it remains strong and supportive. They often greet each other with a fist bump before friendly sparring sessions, and while Ryu has won more matches between them, Ken remains determined and proud of their rivalry.

Later fought and defeated Gouken, who fought and defeated[67] Street Fighter IV Era Akuma, who through just flaring up his power, destroyed a forest[68]. The Power of Nothingness was able to allow Ryu to overpower[69] Seth and easily defeat Torrent of Power Necalli[70], both of which were able to[71] initially overpower Ryu[72]. Swiftly defeated[73] Torrent of Power Necalli and a Psycho Power amplified SFV M. Bison[74]) | At most City level (Potency) (By this point should have some form of control over his Power of Nothingness to be able to use it in combat without needing to use it as a separate form. Notable Techniques

Super Combo Level Gauge

Each time a fighter executes normal moves and special moves, their Super Combo Gauge will build up. Their level will increase when the gauge reaches certain points, and then they will be able to perform Super Combos and Alpha Counter moves.

When performing Super Combos, the amount of damage inflicted by a successful combo can be controlled depending on the buttons pressed. With the Super Combo Level Gauge at full power (Level 3) fighters can perform the Super Combo, using 1, 2 or 3 attack buttons simultaneously to increase or decrease the number of hits inflicted. The more buttons fighters press simultaneously, the more damage will be inflicted but more power will be consumed from the fighter's gauge.

Alpha Counter

←↙↓ + any Punch button

When fighters block their opponent's attack, press the Directional Buttons, ←↙↓, in a smooth motion, then press a punch or kick button (depending on the character). This performs an Alpha Counter attack, which is a quick counter move against their vulnerable opponent. Alpha Counters consume 1 level on the Super Combo gauge.

Block/Air Block

Press Directional Button away from opponent. Fighters can even block in mid-air.

Grab/Throw

Press Directional Button toward opponent, then press either Medium or Hard Punch or Kick button. Some characters may be able to execute a grab or throw move automatically.

Recovery/Escape

Fighters can recover from dizziness more quickly by pressing back and forth on the control pad and by pressing the attack buttons rapidly. Fighters can escape grab moves in this manner as well.

Defensive Fall

Through using the above throw command to reduce damage from throws where the character safely falls to the ground.

Avoid Being Floored

When a fighter is hit by a knock-down move (Dragon Punch, Leg Throw, etc.), press the Directional Buttons, ←↙↓, in a smooth motion, then press any punch button. The character will roll forward and avoid being floored by the opponent's move.

Taunt

Fighters can taunt their opponent through pressing the SELECT button.

Avoid Being Floored

Fighters can avoid falling down from certain attacks, such as a Dragon Punch. By pressing the above command buttons, the fighter will roll forward and avoid being floored by their opponent's move.

Block/Air Block

When the opponent is attacking, press ← on the Control Pad instead of fighting back to avoid taking damage. Blocking also works while the fighter is in the air.

Alpha Counter

When the fighter blocks their opponent's attack, press the above command. This will perform an Alpha Counter attack, which is a quick counter move against the vulnerable opponent. Alpha Counters consume one level on the Super Combo Gauge.

Defensive Fall

When the fighter is being thrown, if they try to throw back at the right time, the amount of damage they receive will be reduced and they will fall safely to the ground.

Throwing/Gripping

Move toward the opponents and press either a Medium or Strong Punch or Kick button. Depending on the character, they may be able to execute a throw or grab move automatically.

Taunting

To do some serious trash talking, press SELECT.

Recovering/Breaking Free

If the opponent attacks the fighter continuously, the fighter may temporarily pass out. The recover quickly, press the Control Pad or any button rapidly. If the fighter does the same inputs while grabbed, they can break free from a grapple.

Super Combo

The Super Combo Level Gauge builds up as they perform moves. When it reaches a certain length, its level increases allowing the fighter to perform Super Combos, Alpha Counters, and Custom Combos.

  • X-Ism: The fighter can perform a Super Combo only when the Super Combo Level Gauge is full. Super Combos use the entire gauge.
  • A-Ism: Fighters have three levels of Super Combos, corresponding to the three levels of punches/kicks (light, medium, and heavy). The Punch or Kick button pressed determines the power of the Super Combo, and uses a similar amount of the gauge. The higher the gauge level when the fighter starts, the more powerful their Super Combo will be.

Custom Combo

Custom Combos are available with V-Ism characters only.

When a V-Ism character's Super Combo Level Gauge builds up to 50% or more, they can perform a Custom Combo by pressing Punch and Kick buttons of the same strength simultaneously.

  • During a Custom Combo, shadow images follow the fighter and attack in the same way.
  • Fighters can continue on a Custom Combo until the Super Combo Level Gauge runs out.
  • Fighters cannot block during a Custom Combo.
  • If the fighter takes damage, the Custom Combo ends.

Alpha Counter

When blocking an attack, press → or ← (toward opponent) + Punch and Kick buttons of the same strength

This counterattack moves uses 1 Super Combo level and shortens the Guard Power Gauge.

Block

  • Standing Block: Press → or ← away from opponent
  • Air Block: Press → or ← away from opponents (A and V Isms only)
  • Croucing Block: Press ↙ or ↘ away from opponent.

Throws

Throws allow fighters to grab an opponent and toss them across the room. Some fighters can even do thorws in mid-air.

  • Example: It is possible for Ryu to grab Ken and throw him over his shoulder. To do the Shoulder Throw, Ryu must push forward against Ken and then he must push the Hard Punch (Fierce) button.

Holds

Holds allow fighters to grab an opponent and then hit or bite them again and again.

  • Example: It is possible for Blanka to bite Guile on the head. To do the Head Bite, Blanka must push forward against Guile and then he must push the Hard Punch (Fierce) button.

Super Art

Directional Button/Joystick + Punch or Kick Button A Super Art move is a super powerful special move. As the fighter attacks, their Super Art Gauge gradually fills up. When the gauge is full, the fighter can perform a Super Art move. Each fighter has three Super Arts.

EX Special Move

2P or 2K buttons

When the Super Arts Gauge is blinking light blue, press two P or K buttons while inputting a Special Move command to perform a more powerful version of the Special Move. An EX Special Move requires a certain amount of Super Art Gauge.

Normal Moves

Press the punch or kick buttons to perform normal moves. The actual attack performed depends on the position of the fighter and the button pressed.

Special Moves

Inputting a specific combination of directional and attack buttons allows the fighter to perform a special move. Even if the opponent blocks a special move, they will still take a small amount of damage. Inputting the command for a special move during certain normal moves allows the fighter to cut short, or "cancel", the normal move and quickly go straight into performing the special move. Using cancelling skillfully is one way to create damaging combinations.

Block

Pushing the directional button away from the opponent allows the fighter to block their attacks. They can block high (Standing) and low (crouching) attacks. High and low blocks can block specific attacks, but not every attack. The fighter will need to carefully and quickly swap between them to block all incoming attacks.

Dash

Press the forward directional button twice to perform a forward dash, or the backward directional button twice to perform a backward dash. Dashing allows the fighter to quickly close the distance between them and their opponent, or to fall back and reassess the situation.

Stun Recovery

If the fighter keeps getting pummeled, they will eventually become stunned. While stunned, they cannot do anything. Their only hope is to press the directional buttons and other buttons as fast as they can to recover from the stun faster.

Throws and Throw Escapes

When standing close to the opponent, pressing the light punch button and light kick buttons simultaneously allows the fighter to throw their opponent. Theyh can change the direction they throw the opponent by pressing the left or right directional buttons. They can prevent themself from being thrown by pressing light punch and light kick together when their opponent begins to throw them. This is called "throw escape".

Some characters can also perform a throw when jumping (aerial throw), or special move throws (command throws). Throw escapes cannot be performed against aerial or command throws.

Recovery

When the opponent's attacks have knocked their character to the ground, they can press the down directional button twice or any two attack buttons simultaneously the instant that they hit the dirt to perform a quick recovery. A successful recovery will reduce the amount of time spent prone on the ground and make it easier to respond to the next incoming attack.

Some attacks, such as throws, do not allow a recovery to be performed after them.

Personal Action

While standing, the fighter can press the heavy punch and heavy kick buttons together to make sure they perform a personal action and taunt their opponent. This action in and of itself has no special properties.

Focus Attack

Performing

Press and hold the Medium Punch and Medium Kick buttons together to charge up a Focus Attack. To perform a full strength Focus Attack, hold the buttons until the attack is unleashed automatically. If the fighter releases the button while charging, the Focus Attack will come out sooner, but weaker.

Hyper Armor

The fighter can absorb up to one enemy attack in the time between pressing the Medium Punch / Medium Kick buttons and the Focus Attack being peformed. They can then go on to counter by performing the attack.

Absorb an opponent's attack and, rather than take direct damage, a section of the fighter's vitality gauge will change color, and will regenerate over time. This damage will recover as time passes, but if they are hit again before it finishes recovering, the remaining section will vanish and can no longer be recovered.

Levels

There are three levels of charging for a Focus Attack. The levels depend on how long the fighter holds the Medium Punch and Medium Kick. The fighter will flash white each time the Focus Attack level increases.

Levels
Attack Level Main Benefits of Focus Attack performed
Level 1
  • Only does regular damage
  • Crumples opponent if a counter hit
Level 2
  • Crumples opponent if hits, allowing easier follow up
Level 3 (Keep holding until performed)
  • Becomes unblockable
  • Has Armor Break properties
  • Crumples opponent if hits, allowing easier to follow up.

When an opponent crumples, they are rendered totally defenseless as they fall to the floor. Follow up with extra attacks or throw to take advantage of a crumpled opponent and do further damage.

The fighter cannot move or jump during a Focus Attack, but they can perform either a forward or backward dash to cancel the Focus Attack quickly.

Super Combo

Hitting the opponent or performing special moves will increase the Super Combo Gauge. The gauge is divided into four segments and, when completely full, a special command can be inpute to perform an all-powerful Super Combo. Doing so will use up all of the Super Combo Gauge.

Super Cancel

Input the Super Combo command while performing a normal move or special move and the fighter can cancel and move directly into the Super Combo. This is called a "Super Cancel". Using Super Cancels strategically allows the fighter to chain a normal move into a special move, and then into a Super Combo for massive amounts of damage.

EX Special Moves

The fighter can also perform an EX special move by pressing two or more of the required buttons (punch or kick) when inputting a special move command. This will consume one segment of the Super Combo Gauge. EX special moves are further powered up versions of the normal special moves.

EX Focus

When performing certain regular or special moves it is possible to press Medium Punch and Medium Kick together and cancel into a Focus Attack. This is called "EX Focus." (It will consume two segments of the Super Combo Gauge.) EX Focus has the same properties as a regular Focus Attack, aside from having no Hyper Armor effect.

The EX Focus can also be used when the fighter's special moves are blocked to protect themself from the opponent's counterattack.

Ultra Combo

The Revenge Gauge fills up as the opponent damages the fighter. Once it is over 50% full, the fighter can input a character-specific command to perform an "Ultra Combo," a devastating special move.

Performing an Ultra Combo will consume the entire Revenge Gauge. The higher the gauge is charged upon performing the attack, the more damage the ultra combo will do.

Normal Attacks

Press the punch or kick buttons to perform a normal attack. The precise attack varires depending on the fighter's position and the button pressed.

Special Moves

Pressing the directional and attack buttons in specific combinations will perform special moves. Special moves will take off a small amount of damage even when blocked. By performing a special move during certain normal attacks, the fighter can cancel the normal attack and move swiftly into doing a special move.

EX Special moves

These are special moves that are more powerful or have a stronger effect than normal. Fighters can perform an EX Special Move by pressing a punch or kick button (depending on the move) at the same time as the fighter inputs a special move command. This will use one stock of the fighter's Critical Gauge.

Guarding

Fighters can block an opponent's attack by pressing the directional button away from them. There are two types of guard: standing and crouching. Each can be used to block different types of attacks, so they'll need to know which type of guard is best for each situation.

V-Skill

Pressing the medium punch and medium kick buttons simultaneously will trigger a special action with a unique effect specific to that fighter.

V-Trigger

When a fighters V-Gauge is at MAX, press the hard punch and hard kick buttons simultaneously to trigger a special action specific to that character, consuming the entire V-Gauge. With effects like temporary power ups and teleportation, the V-Trigger can turn the tide of battle and give a fighter the upper hand.

V-Reversal

When guarding, press all kick or punch buttons at the same time while simultaneously pressing the directional button towards the opponent to consume one V-Gauge stock and perform a counter-move.

  • Whether the fighter need to press punch or kick button depends on the fighter.

V-Shift

Press Hard Punch and Medium Kick at the same time to spend 1 stock of V-Gauge and perform a backward evasive action.

V-Shift Break

If a fighter successfully parries their opponent's attack with a V-Shift, they will trigger slow motion. While in this state, press Hard Punch and Medium Kick together to perform a fighter-specific counterattack called a V-Shift Break.

Throws and Throw Escapes

When standing close to the opponent, the fighter can perform a throw by pressing the light punch and light kick buttons simultaneously. If their opponent tries to throw them, they can execute a throw escape by pressing the light punch and light kick buttons together at just the right moment.

Recovery

When an opponent knocks the fighter down with an attack, they can perform a quick recovery by either pressing a directional button, or pressing two or more punch or two or more kick buttons simultaneously at just the right moment.

Movement[308]

Walking

Pressing left and right on the control pad/left control stick will let the fighter move in that direction. The fighter can move forwards or backwards with no difficulty, not losing balance even while moving backwards while fighting against an opponent.

Dashing

Through double tapping the left control stick in the same direction, the fighter will perform a dash. Dashing lets the fighter cover more ground than regular advancing or retreating.

Jumping

Through inputting the control pad/left joystick upwards, the fighter will perform a jump. The fighter can either jump straight up or to either side. Jump are utilized for moving while avoiding opponent attacks, though jumping around too much will make the fighter look predictable.

Normal Attacks[309]

Normal Attacks are performed through the fighter using the punch or kick inputs, allowing them to perform attacks of different strengths depending on the input done. There are weak versions of normal attacks known as light attacks, while weak they come out quick. There are medium attacks which are well balanced and easy to use. There are heavy attacks that leave the fighter open to counter attacks, but to make up for it they deal good damage.

Through inputting the control pad/left joystick downwards, the fighter will crouch, if attacking in this state the fighter will perform a crouch attack.

Through inputting the jumping action, the fighter can also attack while jumping, performing jumping attacks.

Blocking[310]

There are two kinds of blocks: Standing Blocks and Crouching Blocks.

  • Standing Block: Press the left joy stick in the opposite direction of the opponent while standing to perform a standing block. Standing blocks can guard against any attacks that aren't aimed at the fighters feet.
  • Crouching Block: For attacks standing blocks can't defend against, crouching blocks are instead viable. While facing right, input diagonally down and left with the control pad/left joy stick to block. Crouching Blocks can't defend against Overhead or Jumping Attacks, but they can deal with a lot of other attacks.

Throws[311]

When a fighter cannot break through an opponent's block, they can use throws to deal damage instead. At close range press the light attack inputs at the same time for a normal throw. Throws are a great option for close-ranged offense.

Throw Escape

If the fighter is about to get thrown, they can answer back with a throw escape, by pressing the light attack inputs at the same time.

Special Moves[312]

Through a fighter doing their correct inputs, they will be able to fire off their special move. Different special moves work better in different situations for a fighter.

Super Arts[313]

Super Arts depend on the Super Art gauge. The Super Art gauge can be filled up to 3 levels, if a fighter has at least one level in the bar, they can perform a Super Art.

The Level 3 Super Art is every fighter's trump card. The Super Art gauge fills up whenever the fighter's attack hits or if they're attacked.

The Drive Gauge[314]

All fighter's have a Drive Gauge which indicates a fighter's concentration and energy level. Utilizing this gauge lets a fighter perform unique actions.

Drive Impact

The fighter presses the right two shoulder buttons at the same time to perform a powerful attack. Drive Impacts can absorb two attacks from the opponent, but there are some exceptions. When in trouble, a fighter's Drive Impact can break through any attack. Drive Impacts have a unique characteristic: They can break a cornered opponent's block.

Drive Parry

This is performed by holding down the medium attack inputs at the same time, for a powerful defensive tool.

Drive Parries are effective against both standing and crouching attacks, and a successfull Drive Parry will replenish the drive gauge.

While Drive Parries are powerful, they can't defend against throws.

Perfect Parry

A Perfect Parry is the result of performing a Drive Parry the moment an opponent's attacks hits them. This is an invaluable tool for their counterattack game.

The following is a list of Ryu's commands throughout the series.

  • Denjin Hadoken ("Electric Blade Surge Fist"): An electrified Shinku Hadoken used during Denjin Renki, breaking guard and leaving foes vulnerable.
  • Shin Shoryuken ("True Rising Dragon Fist"): A perfected triple-hit Shoryuken ending in a high-power rising punch.

V-Techniques

  • Hashogeki ("Wave Palm Attack"): A close-range chi burst that does not leave the hands.
  • Fumikomi Jodan Kagizuki ("Step-in High-Level Hook Thrust"): A backward dash to evade followed by a powerful hook counter.
  • Mind's Eye: Defensive stance that parries on precise timing and recovers faster to allow counterattacks.
  • Thrust Strike: Guarded entry strike; blocking an attack triggers an elbow follow-up.
  • Denjin Renki ("Electric Blade Refined Spirit"): Powers up Ryu’s hands and special attacks with electricity; Hadoken gains guard-break, charged versions stun; Shoryuken damage increases.
  • Kakko Fubatsu ("Resolute & Steadfast"): Enhances Isshin; blocking triggers a crumple counter, setting up follow-ups.

Ryu
Date of Birth: 7-21-1964
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 150 lbs
Blood Type: O
Nationality: Japanese
Fighting Style: Shotokan Karate

A student of the Shotokan school of karate, Ryu has developed into a pure warrior. He has devoted his entire life to the perfection of his fighting skills and has foresaken everything else in his life. Ryu has no home, no friends and no family. Instead, he wanders the globe seeking to test his skills against other fighters.

Probably the strongest all-around fighter, Ryu claimed the title of grand champion after his narrow defeat of Sagat. Cool and calculating, Ryu is very patient in combat. Always seeking to maximize his abilities, Ryu has improved the speed of his fireball and uses it to pound his opponents into a corner.

  RYU

Ryu gently lowered his muscular form into the bubbling hot springs, it had been a while since his last time at the springs, and he had spent the previous days mentally preparing for the challenge of Ken. The steaming hot water gushing across Ryu's body felt invigorating.

"Ken has chosen a very different path of life from me,"

Ryu thought as he lay in the pool, "Ken has a wife and a three-year-old boy... I wonder how hard it is for Ken to train in the mountains..."

Ryu summoned his inner strength and felt time ebb.

Ryu's History
Ryu was born in Japan, and his wanderings have gained him friends throughout the world. He still travels the globe, searching for a real fighting spirit, frequently stopping to reunite with an old sparring partner. Ken's child has made Ryu take his own life into account.

Fighting Style
Original style based on Karate. Ryu fights without any wasteful movements, unlike Ken who prefers a more flamboyant technique with vanity. Although his action is not as flashy as other fighters, his technique always fascinates his opponents.

Street Fighter III 3rd Impact

The solitary seeker Ryuu, the warrior who fought thousands and thousands of battles and exchanged countless punches. The road for a "true fighter" to take still has an indistinct shape to him... But he won't falter: as long as he believes he can meet capable strong new fighters who will bring him to new heights, he will have a path to walk on[323].

His ability to easily switch between relaxed movements and full blown attacks is something everyone is in awe of. How he can take on heavy attacks is also something distinguishing him. He mainly fights on the ground, but he's not the type to only string longer and longer combos of normal attacks. He can use normal moves to keep the opponent in check, putting their offense to a stop: he perfectly balances attack with defense.

Trivia

  • Ryu likes general martial arts and water yokan[324].
  • Ryu hates spiders[325].
  • Ryu's special skill is hitchiking and he can sleep anywhere[326].
  • In the gameboy version of Street Fighter Alpha 3, if Evil Ryu loses to Shin Akuma, there is a gameboy exclusive ending where Akuma notes to him that he fought well but no one is any match for his power[327].
  • Ryu and Chun-Li hold the record for the most crossover appearances in the Street Fighter series. Ryu has shown up in every crossover fighting title connected to the franchise so far, with the exception of cameos in non–crossover projects.
    • Ryu and Ken are uniquely the only fighters who have appeared in every mainline Street Fighter release.
    • Ryu jokes about his long history of crossovers in his intro during the first "Lost Episode" of Asura's Wrath, remarking that being transported to strange worlds isn't new to him.
  • While Ryu was initially susceptible to M. Bison’s influence, he is one of only two fighters to defeat Bison in direct one-on-one combat, the other being Charlie Nash.
  • Several of Ryu’s Street Fighter IV victory quotes imply that he is perfectly capable of buying footwear, but chooses to remain barefoot, likely for comfort and personal discipline.
    • In UDON’s comic adaptation, Ryu brings up this preference while training Sakura, noting that traveling without shoes helps build character.
    • Additionally, in the English script for Street Fighter X Tekken, his win quote against Guy suggests he may be open to reconsidering his barefoot philosophy.
  • In Capcom vs. SNK 2, one of Ryu’s victory lines pays homage to the original Street Fighter, stating: "What strength! I won't forget that there are many like you all over the world!"
  • Ryu is one of only three characters whose stage lacked a crowd until the Alpha era, with the others being Akuma and Evil Ryu.
  • Ryu’s dedication to challenging strong opponents and continuously improving mirrors the journey of Son Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise. His Hadoken also draws clear inspiration from the Kamehameha technique.
  • Ryu and Ken's fighting style have gone through many changes over the course of the series. In the original Street Fighter, Ryu & Ken were genius martial artists who learned martial arts from an early age and created their own martial arts style[328]. A year later, Ryu was called a Master of fighting karate (ケンカ空手の達人 Kenka karate no tatsujin) in the introduction video for Fighting Street[329].
    • In SFA3 Ryu adopts various techniques from karate, jūdō and taekwondo to create his own style[330]. However, in Ryu's SFIII bio it states that he uses martial arts based on karate[331]. It wasn't until SFIV where Ryu and Ken's fighting style became a "martial art rooted as an art of assassination" (Ansatsuken)[332].
  • Ryu cut off the sleeves of his dōgi to better throw punches, and because he remembered how inconvenient it was when he was grabbed there[333][334].
  • Ryu's 6th color in Street Fighter IV bears a resemblance to his attire in the Alpha series.
  • In the Japanese version of the Capcom arcade quiz game Quiz and Dragons, Ryu's full name is given as Ryu Takegami (武神 隆 Takegami Ryū?), though this has never been referenced in any other media and it is unlikely Capcom considers this his full name officially[335].
  • Ryu shares the same birthday as T. Hawk.
    • Ryu also shares the same birthday (and year, shown in the Super NES manual for SFII) with former Capcom artist, Akira (Akiman) Yasuda.
  • In the SFIII Q&A from Gamest's SFIII Fanbook, when asked what type of woman he likes, Ryu's response is "Women who look good in spring in Japan"[336].
    • One question asks if Ryu would open a dojo once he retires. The response is that he might think about opening a dojo but he has no intention of raising a successor[337].
    • The book also states that the rucksack he carries contains spare clothes he can change into. And that Ryu is 33 years old as SFIII takes place in 1997[338].
  • Evil Ryu's win quote to Rose in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is almost the same as Ryu's win quote to her in Street Fighter IV.
  • In the original Street Fighter, there's unused audio in the game files for a "Fire Kick", along with unused graphics that suggest Ryu and Ken were planned to have a fourth special move. Had it been implemented, it would have been a standard jump kick with fire covering the user's foot, similar to the Senpukyaku or Tenmakujinkyaku.
  • According to Yoshinori Ono, Ryu suffers from arachnophobia (fear of spiders), a subject matter emphasized in his introduction quote against Spider-Man in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and its updated version.
  • In Street Fighter: Resurrection, Ryu's date of birth is listed as "Unknown" when his official birthdate is July 21, 1964.
  • His premium school costume in Street Fighter V has a minor resemblance to Daigo's outfit from his wild form in the Rival Schools series.
  • Ryu has the most character connections out of the playable characters, making allies and enemies than any fighter which makes Ryu the most well known from allies and enemies alike.
  • According to his win quote against El Fuerte, Ryu has no food preferences when he's hungry. He will eat whatever is available to him[339].
  • The end of the story A Shadow Falls possibly marks the first time chronologically in the games that Ryu is not seen with his red headband since he first got it.
  • Ryu's theme can be heard in Sakura's vocal theme song, "I Want You to Know".

Ryu reading “Mas Ōyama’s straight punch attack”
  • In artwork for Capcom Friendly Club, Ryu can be seen reading Masutatsu Ōyama's book called “Mas Ōyama’s straight punch attack” (マス大山の正拳一撃 Mas Ōyama no seiken ichigeki), it was the last work of Ōyama published in April 1994, the same month of his death. It's a collection of 99 Q&A from his previous books.
    • Ichigeki (一撃) which translates to “one attack” is Ōyama’s ideal way of winning a fight. Ryu follows this same mindset as he'd go onto create Kaze no Kobushi, a straight punch attack.
  • If Ryu and Ken are paired with Leon S Kennedy in Project X Zone 2, Ken will ask Leon to take fighting more seriously which leads to Leon trying to perform a Hadoken and Shoryuken. Ryu thought that Leon was really going to fire a real Hadoken. This is a nod to the fact that Ryu was voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa who currently voices Leon[342].
    • Dante from Devil May Cry is not only voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa but also has access to Ryu's moves when equiped with Beowulf, Gilgamesh and Balrog.
  • Ryu’s Power Ranger form from Power Rangers Legacy Wars, Ryu Ranger, is similar in name to Ryo’s Ranger form from Gosei Sentai Dairanger. The Ranger costume design is a mashup of the White Ranger, parts of Ryu’s regular outfit, the Green Ranger, and Red Hawk (who also goes under the name Ryu) from Choujin Sentai Jetman.
  • Ryu often trains near remote waterfalls. He doesn't seem to know why so many people visit when he's there[343].
  • Ryu can speak in many languages. The first phrases he learns in any country are: "Looking for a match?" and "Where can I get something to eat?"[344].
  • Ryu is one of two characters in Street Fighter 6 who does not have their hair or eye color modified with any of their costume colors, the other being Rashid.

Codex Statistics Questions

Q: Shouldn't characters comparable to Akuma be around Tier 6 (6-C) for him sinking an island in one punch[345]?

A: Akuma's punch causes the island to start collapsing[346], and specifically causes an explosion of this size in comparisson to the island[347], there is also no direct timeframe for how long this took, making it hard to factor. On top of this, the size of the island is not that large. Playing Devil's Advocate and assuming this was to be Tier 6, this would not be consistent, as Akuma using his ultimate technique, the "Kongou-kokuretsuzan" only split Ayers Rock in half[348]. Which it should be noted as Akuma is training constantly and getting stronger, the Island feat was all the way back in Alpha 2, which is before most of the games, while III: 2nd Impact is pretty late into the timeline.

Q: Shouldn't the cast be comparable to Chun-Li's kikosho, which caused this massive crater[349], which was calculated to be 8-B?

A: While the scene is cut weirdly, a couple of things to note is for one, the consistency of kikosho. In Chun-Li's opening in Street Fighter IV, her kikosho pushes back a speeding car but does no serious damage to it[350]. Another thing is that the crater is inconsistently sized between scenes. Finally, Chun-Li is weaker then Juri where while amped had powers that can blow up the inside of a building[351] and cause a jet plane to explode[352], greatly injuring Guile, who she's comparable too in the process. Thus it does not make sense for 8-B when far lower feats affect them, and the calculation itself has issues.

Q: Shouldn't the cast be comparable to E. Honda, who destroyed a meteor[353]?

A: In the feat, it's directly noted that the two wrestlers (Hakan and E. Honda) worked together, with E. Honda being thrown at high speeds into the meteor and being greatly damaged from said feat, having bandages all over his body. Thus the feat is not usable for scaling to anyone other then throwing speed.

Q: Shouldn't the cast be comparable to Haggar, who causes an explosion seen from space[354]?

A: Haggar's attack is modeled weird as it's heavily likely for partly comedic effect, asides from this, despite said explosions, the actual stage is largely unaffected by this attack, which furthers that this is just an over the top comedic effect attack rather then being a literal explosions from Earth.

Q: Shouldn't M. Bison be comparable to Akuma and by proxy any characters comparable to M. Bison are comparable to Akuma?

A: When Akuma first appears in Street Fighter II, he easily one-shots M. Bison[355], his ending in Alpha 3 has him easily kill M. Bison[356]. The only two cases of M. Bison looking stronger is in his arcade mode he has Akuma as a rival fight[357], and ends up winning[358], and him calling the Raging Demon a pitifully weak move[359]. However there are issues with both of these, the first one being this is simply a non-canon arcade mode from M. Bison, any other showing of M. Bison and Akuma shows Akuma as the superior one (Examples include Street Fighter V M. Bison getting one-shot by Ryu while Akuma easily beat Ryu in Street Fighter 5, THe Alpha 3 Akuma Ending and Street Fighter II Secret Akuma Boss Fight), on top of this M. Bison wants the satsui no hado's power, which is weaker then Akuma's during the events of Alpha 3. For Adon's part, Bison is merely attempting to convince him to take Psycho Power so that he can control him, this is doubly clear as any time M. Bison has been depicted on screen being hit by the Raging Demon he instantly dies. Also as a last point, for the rival fight, Feel the Cool played against M. Bison[360], while Groan only plays when he's fighting Gen or Evil Ryu[361], thus meaning Akuma even in M. Bison's arcade mode wasn't taking the fight seriously.

Q: Shouldn't Evil Ryu and thus the Statsui no Hado have 7-B due to it powering M. Bison's laser to destroy Bangkok?

A: This is not a solely Evil Ryu power, every fighter in the game has this, including Dan Hibiki[362]. This also is a machine that saps all of their energy, where a persons total body energy is not comparable to the energy they produce regularly.

Q: Shouldn't all Street Fighter 6 charcters get 7-B for fighting SiRN Akuma?

A: While some statements[363] suggest it to be equal[364] in power to[365] Akuma, several[366] characters[367] note[368] that[369] it isn't[370], as strong[371] as the[372] real Akuma[373]. The real Akuma even considers SiRN Akuma a mockery[374]. C. Viper notes the simulation is only passable as a simulation[375].

Q: Isn't Menat's statement of fighters always fighting against their destiny[376] usable?

A: Menat still can't see the future well[377], having a hard time seeing fighter's futures like F.A.N.G.[378], and can't properly see into the future[379]. This is more due to her being a rookie then the fighters resistances.

  303. Musings on a Still Night (Part 2) "Even if he and his guest, so tragically deceived by the Satsui no Hado, must kill each other in the same instant.
The decision sharpened his awareness, marshalling all his senses.
In the stifling presence of certain death, Oro drew closer to Dhalsim with only one thing on his mind.
Even the tiniest move would mean the difference between life and death.
Dhalsim's nerves tingled with agonizing dread.
    His consciousness transcended flesh.
He was one with the world.
    Utter silence.
    The wind had died.
Only the thick smell of Jasmine remained.
A trickle of sweat rolled down Dhalsim's cheek.
    Time.
    Sto--
    --pped.
The old hermit released his fist with a casual chuckle. The dark Hado that had drawn such ultimate malice to Dhalsim's doorstep vanished without a trace.
"That was the Satsui no Hado. Well, an imitation."
Dhalsim gasped in relief, and wiped the sweat from his brow.
"Old man, please don't surprise me like that again."

  335. I wanted to recreate some techniques, I thought I was going to put out something like "vitality because of youth", but it was rejected. So, I'm not involved much this time. It was made by other people. Originally, Ryu was a character in which the anyone can project themselves onto, "white that can be dyed in anyone's color", but over the years his image was solidified, and I was made to think that he’s become a character who’s "white that cannot be dyed by anyone". It's difficult for him. Also, the name "Takashi Takegami" suddenly appeared from somewhere around the time when it was made into an animated film, it didn't exist from the early stages. I don't think it's official even now.
