I am Captain Olimar. I only... wish... to be reunited with my... wife and children.
„
~ Leafling Olimar after being bested in a Dandori Battle
I noticed some Pikmin in the wild, so I called out, "Hey!" But there was no response. Were they under some spell? I saw some mysterious writing under them... Maybe if I can decipher it,
I can figure out how to free them.
Captain Olimar, also referred to as simply Olimar, is a major character and antagonist for the first half of Pikmin 4, and the main protagonist of Hey! Pikmin. Unlike the original trilogy, Pikmin 4 is a reboot of the main trilogy with Olimar experiencing his first crash landing on PNF-404 and discovering the Pikmin. Hey! Pikmin seemingly takes place after the events of the fourth Pikmin installment[1], where Olimar used the funds from the treasure collected on PNF-404 to purchase the S.S Dolphin II.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Captain Olimar’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!
Pikmin 4
In the fourth installment in the mainline Pikmin franchise, Pikmin 4, Olimar becomes stranded on an unknown planet later self-named PNF-404, where thirty of his S.S Dolphin ship parts are scattered across the immediate area. Upon crashing in Sun-Speckled Terrace, he discovers the Pikmin, a plant and animal hybrid species that loves to carry objects, that ultimately help him rebuild his ship.
Later when he discovers the Blossoming Arcadia, he discovers and befriends a space dog named Moss, who helps him in his search alongside the Pikmin. When Olimar recovers the Interstellar Radio with the help of Moss and the Pikmin, he uses it to send a distress signal. While Olimar is ultimately successful in collecting all the parts of the S.S. Dolphin with their help, Olimar discovers that Moss had stowed away in the ship's cargo hold and is rapidly sickening. Realizing that she could not survive away from PNF-404, he tries to return to the planet to save her, but crash-lands again. His life support system fails, and the Pikmin take him to an Onion, transforming him into a Leafling with no memory of who he is.
When he wakes up as a Leafling, Olimar finds a mysterious cave at what is later known as the Rescue Command Post (it is unknown if he entered it). Olimar's behavior as a Leafling includes taking Castaways and turning them into Leaflings, as a way to "save" them from possible fatality.
One month later, the signal is intercepted by the Rescue Corps, who set off to retrieve him before becoming in need of rescue themselves, leaving their newest recruit to rescue both Olimar and the castaway members of the Rescue Corps. During the mission, the recruit encounters Olimar in his leafling form on several occasions, and Olimar challenges the rookie to several Dandori Battles with the recruit as a way to test their skills.
Olimar is eventually rescued and cured by the Rescue Corps, but is forced to return to the planet when the Rescue Corps' Rescue Pup Oatchi begins to sicken in the same way that Moss did. Noticing the leaf that had been growing from Oatchi's tail, Olimar suspects that any organism with leaves like that of a Pikmin are unable to survive away from PNF-404. Oatchi was eventually returned to normal. However, Moss does not respond to the treatment, and Olimar decides to leave her behind, as this is where she was born and raised. The Rescue Corps, accompanied by Olimar, depart the planet for the final time, as the Pikmin follow Moss as their new leader.
Hey! Pikmin
The prologue starts with Captain Olimar flying on the S.S Dolphin II until he comes across a shower of asteroids. He tries to dodge them, but ends up getting hit, and the ship plummets into an alien planet, landing near a group of terrified Pikmin.
After this, Captain Olimar wakes up from the crash landing as the ship's pod assesses his and the ship's situation. After doing so, it concludes that the ship's fuel – the Sparklium supply – is completely empty. The pod picks up Sparklium signals and sends the captain onward, where the two stumble upon a wild Red Pikmin. After it being scared off, and the two continue going forward, Captain Olimar uses his whistle to bring out the Pikmin hiding in the weeds, only to realize there are actually four of them hiding, not just one. Moving forward a bit, the group discovers some Sparklium Seeds. It is at this point that the pod confirms that each seed contains one Sparklium, but Olimar needs 30 thousand to be able to escape. After the ship reassures the demoralized captain, everyone moves further onward, find some more seeds, and the tutorial level is completed.
Throughout the rest of the adventure, Olimar explores different areas, one at a time, gathering Sparklium Seeds and treasures along the way. There are two primary goals; the first is obtaining × 30,000 Sparklium in order to fully power the ship again, and the second is searching for a missing key component of the S.S. Dolphin II, the Sparklium Converter, which is needed in order to return home. This final piece can be obtained from the last sector, The Final Stretch.
In order to get home, Captain Olimar needs to find × 30,000 and the Sparklium Converter. The ship does not know where the Sparklium Converter is, so the player needs to play through all eight main sectors, gathering Sparklium along the way. Once all eight sectors are finished and the Sparklium count reaches 30,000, the ship detects the Sparklium Converter in a new sector, The Final Stretch. Here, he battles against the fearsome Berserk Leech Hydroe, and after winning the fight, it is revealed that the Leech Hydroe that had taken control of the monster is holding the Sparklium Converter. After its defeat, the creature drops the ship part and then scurries away. The captain recovers the ship part, and prepares to go home.
As the ship is setting everything up for the ride, Olimar goes outside to meet the Pikmin for one final time, as him and a group of different Pikmin are frolicking around. Eventually, the ship's pod calls him over, and he sorrowfully walks away from the Pikmin. At first, they follow him, but after they realize what is happening, they stop, and stare at Olimar as he is getting beamed up into the ship's pod. As the ship takes off, the Pikmin all get inside the nearby Onion. The two blast off into space, but the Onion can only follow the ship up so far, until it stays behind. The ship keeps going, eventually activates the warp, and disappears.
After this, the credits roll. In the cutscene after the credits, a scene similar to the intro plays out, except instead of Olimar coming face to face with asteroids, he sees Hocotate in the distance. The ending finishes with the S.S. Dolphin II flying towards Olimar's home planet.
Alignment:Neutral Good (Olimar does what he needs to do in order to survive. This involves killing wildlife if they threaten him or the Pikmin. Despite this, Olimar has a deep respect and leader-like connection with the Pikmin and blames himself for their deaths. Olimar was willing to rescue Louie despite not having much of a connection with him. Olimar collected the Spellbound Friends and did everything in his power to free the Pikmin[3])
Intelligence:Extraordinary Genius Intelligence (Is a Scientist and Biologist who designed the Bowsprit for theS.S Dolphin. Studied the Pikmin species along with the enemy species to learn their weaknesses and how they act and react to things. Modified his ship and suit with technology he considered advanced and with only a night's time. Is a brilliant puzzle solver and has shown to work incredibly efficiently while under pressure)
These peppy little darlings are a vivid scarlet red! As you can tell by their appearance, these critters are very passionate. In fact, they're such hotheads that they're immune to fire! Even their displays of affection are ardent. They'll beat their tiny fists on you in an abundance of enthusiasm!

Pikmin are part of the Ambuloradicis class, which consists of creatures that exhibit both plant and animal characteristics. A Pikmin will instinctively follow whoever plucks it from the ground, so it so quite common for them to form symbiotic relationships with another species or accept a leader of a different species, as it serves the goal of propagating their own species as a whole. The Red Pikmin is the most common Pikmin species. It can be identified by the nose-like protuberance on its head and its highly aggressive behavior. It also has a few surprising and unique qualities- for example, its immunity to extreme heat and fire, despite the fact that it's a living organism. This can be explained by looking closely at its skin and muscle fibers, which are made up of a flame-resistant cellulose.
Extraordinary! When I plucked the sprout, it turned out to be a living creature, not a plant! Picking it has done no visible damage... It just stands there, staring at me. Its shape is similar to the Pikpik brand carrots I love so much... I believe I shall call it a Pikmin.
Discovered: At the Impact Site in Pikmin 1, the Valley of Repose in Pikmin 2, and the Tropical Wilds in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
Strengths: Is immune to fire and deals 1.5 times more damage than an average Pikmin.
Weaknesses: Standard elemental hazards excluding fire (Electricity, water, poison, and wind). Can be crushed and instantly killed.
"Red Pikmin are resistant to fire."
"Red Pikmin are good fighters."

Look at the extraordinarily big, pointy ears on the adorable Yellow Pikmin! I doubt you can whisper a secret they won't hear. Try throwing one. They can easily retrieve objects for you from places you can't reach! Also, electricity doesn't faze them at all. They're shockingly useful little guys!

It's generally believed that the Pikmin body was originally the root of a plant that has evolved over centuries, if not millennia, developing stuctures analagous to muscles, neural networks similar to those of a brain, and more. However, Yellow Pikmin possess a perfect resistance to electricity, a force which actually poses extreme danger to other organisms. Oddly enough, this species of Pikmin actually seems to...enjoy electricity! Their flowers even bloom when they are exposed to electric current. This fact would lead one to believe that their neural-transmission methods are quite different than our own. This species used the ear-like lamellae on its head to soar to great heights and dig holes.
The Yellow Pikmin have picked up some peculiar stones. Why did they decide to grab them? This action seems to be instinctive to the Yellow Pikmin. But just what are these strange glowing stones? Brightly glowing cracks cover them. Perhaps these cracks indicate that there's tremendous power locked away within. This merits further research.
Discovered: In the Forest of Hope in Pikmin 1, the Perplexing Pool in Pikmin 2, and the Distant Tundra in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
Strengths: Is immune to and can conduct electricity. Due to being lighter, Yellow Pikmin can be thrown further and dig up objects faster.
Weaknesses: Standard elemental hazards excluding electricity (Fire, water, poison, and wind). Can be crushed and instantly killed.
"Yellow Pikmin can conduct electricity."
"Yellow Pikmin are shock resistant."
"Yellow Pikmin can be thrown higher."
"Yellow Pikmin are good at digging."

It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that watching these Pikmin navigate the water with the grace of a fish is one of the most lovely things to behold on this planet! But if you really want to see them swimming, you'll need to offer them some live bait!

The accepted theory is that Pikmin evolved from terrestrial root vegetables, and so would be unable to breathe underwater and subsequently drown. Yet the Blue Pikmin possess a gill resembling a mouth on their head, which enables them to be active underwater. While on land, they leaf and flower like other Pikmin species, and they breathe through the stomata on their skin, indicating they must be naturally amphibious.
Pigment proteins on the surface of their body essentially perform the same photosynthetic process as cyanobacteria. for example, which is what gives them their striking color.
It is a Pikmin of yet another color. Near this one's cheeks is what appears to be a set of gills. This trait suggests to me that this blue type of Pikmin can enter the water without any trouble whatsoever. There's only one way to find out...
Discovered: In the Forest Navel in Pikmin 1, the Awakening Wood in Pikmin 2, and the Garden of Hope in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
Strengths: Is immune to and can breathe underwater. They can also swim underwater better than most fish, making them ideal for underwater combat.
Weaknesses: Standard elemental hazards excluding water (Fire, water, poison, and wind). Can be crushed and instantly killed.

It's a profoundly heavy feeling, holding a living thing in your arms. It can be overwhelming to realize this thing is really alive! Slightly larger in size, Purple Pikmin can weigh up to 10 times as much as other Pikmin species, and when thrown to the ground, their impact creates gravitational waves that can actually warp space-time! It's astonishing.
The density of their muscle fibers is also much higher than that of other Pikmin, allowing them to transport 10 times as much weight as their average-sized counterparts. Their rich purple color is derived from strong polyphenol antioxidants.
Like White Pikmin, they are born from underground Candypop Buds, and no related Onions have been discovered so far. But I think somewhere underground, deep among the relics of the past, a Purple Onion is waiting to be discovered.
Amazing! A Purple Pikmin! It has little hair... and is quite stocky. It seems very heavy and strong.

Sex: Unknown, likely asexual
Onion Type: Unknown (Although Purple Onions do exist, it is unknown whether this is the onion of the Purple Pikmin we see in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3)
Discovered: Discovered in the Emergence Cave in Pikmin 2.
Strengths: Has the physical power of ten Pikmin, thus allowing to carry far heavier items. Can create shockwaves capable of stunning opponents.
Weaknesses: Standard elemental hazards excluding wind (Fire, electricity, water, and poison). Can be crushed and instantly killed.

White Pikmin are "born" through a color-changing process within white Candypop Buds, which only grow underground.
The poison within its body is a type of diterpene alkaloid similar to a toxin often found in certain plant roots. If ingested, it can lead to vomiting, respiratory distress, and complete organ failure, ultimately resulting in death due to cardiac arrest.
Incredible! A White Pikmin! It is tiny, but looks distinctly swift. Its eyes are an unseemly red.

This species is definitely a member of the Pikmin genus, but its body does not share any of the plant-like traits that Pikmin are known for. Instead, it's composed primarily of stone. The stone is actually the chosen host for a parasitic subset of Pikmin species nicknamed "Hermikmin." Similar to how a seed can sprout and push through the cracks of a rock, the Pikmin's roots stretch deep into the stone, storing its vital organs in an interior cavity that resembles a crystal geode.
Discovered: At the Garden of Hope in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
Strengths: Due to being a rock, their hard bodies allow them to break through more solid surfaces like crystal. They also cannot be crushed due to their physiology.
Weaknesses: Standard elemental hazards (Fire, electricity, water, poison, and wind). Cannot latch on to targets due to their size.

The wings on the back of this flying Pikmin species closely resemble the wings you would find on a flying creature. It's possible that an ancient Winged Onion somehow absorbed a flying creature's DNA, which then resulted in the precursor to the Winged Pikmin transforming into the species we recognize today. If this theory is correct, then Onions might also be serving the role of messenger, transmitting new traits and characteristics to their Pikmin.
Discovered: At the Twilight River in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

With the frigid air welling up endlessly from inside their icy bodies, they can freeze anything at all! If you throw enough of them in a pond, they'll freeze the surface so solidly that you can walk right across it! They're just like little ice wizards!
„
~ Dalmo's Piklopedia Notes
“
Pikmin supposedly evolved from plants, yet there are also Pikmin species with bodies made of ice, known as Ice Pikmin. How is this possible? The answer to this question lies in the fact that Ice Pikmin are parasitic by nature, and the ice serves as their host. The composition of this type of ice is, predictably, mostly water, but it resembles saline solution with faint concentrations of trace sodium ions, potassium ions, and calcium ions that function as neural transmitters. Interestingly, the ice exhibits no visual signs of melting or dripping when exposed to sunlight. This is due to its low-temperature core, which continuously creates more ice in order to maintain a consistent size.
Here you are, far from home, stranded on a strange planet with a night even more dangerous than the unforgiving day. But in the night, the faint, gentle light given off by these gloriously glowing li'l beans brings hope to our adventures. That shine is a beacon of life that we recognize in our hearts!

Although they've been named Glow Pikmin, it's not entirely clear whether or not this species is actually a type of Pikmin. These creatures possess the same fundamental behaviors of Pikmin, like carrying things, propagating, and fighting. They also share special characteristics, such as the leaf atop their head. Yet they do not spawn from an Onion but a Lumiknoll, and they are only active at night or underground. During the day, they revert into seeds and enter a resting state. What's even more surprising is that they exhibit no signs of life. When a Glow Pikmin "dies," if that word can even be used, it does not expire in the typical sense. Instead, it just becomes a form of light-or perhaps a photon-and returns to the Lumiknoll. Putting aside my "scientist" hat for a moment...it seems to me that this creature or entity may not be a living organism at all but some manner of spiritual substance.
These peppy little darlings are a vivid scarlet red! As you can tell by their appearance, these critters are very passionate. In fact, they're such hotheads that they're immune to fire! Even their displays of affection are ardent. They'll beat their tiny fists on you in an abundance of enthusiasm!

With the frigid air welling up endlessly from inside their icy bodies, they can freeze anything at all! If you throw enough of them in a pond, they'll freeze the surface so solidly that you can walk right across it! They're just like little ice wizards!

Pikmin are a plant-animal life-form first encountered by Captain Olimar when his ship crash-lands on an uncharted planet in Pikmin. The Pikmin are loyal to their leaders, although their criteria for deciding a leader is unclear. They come in a number of different types, each indicating a unique set of attributes that better suit them to different environments and tasks. Most Pikmin are 1.2 cm, from the top of the head to the feet, and have a vaguely humanoid shape, allowing them to walk, run, carry, and fight. Different types can have different shapes or sizes. Atop any Pikmin's head is a stem, topped with a leaf, bud, or flower, depending on their maturity.
Captain Olimar was noted in Pikmin to wonder, a bit uneasily, why the Pikmin don't attack him, and he speculated that they might see him as a "parental figure". However, the Antenna Beetle being able to control Pikmin with its sound might prove that it is in fact the whistle that makes Pikmin non-aggressive. As of Pikmin 3 Deluxe however, it is implied by the various murals located around the globe that they view Olimar as a sort of higher deity who guides them, showing the relationship between Olimar and the Pikmin is one of loyalty.
Biology
Although each Pikmin species have different characteristics, most Pikmin have the same general appearance: a roughly humanoid body shape, two round eyes, two arms and two legs, two hands and two feet – each with three digits – and a tall stem on which a single leaf, bud, or five-petaled flower grows. Their limbs also serve as roots when buried in the ground. In fact, Olimar refers to their entire bodies, save the stems, as ambulatory root structures.
The internal structures of Pikmin are a mystery, but certain things about them can be speculated. Since Pikmin never seem to eat anything, save nectar, they probably have a very simple digestive system, if any. As such, it is likely that Pikmin get a majority of their nutrients from food the Onions break down. Since the Onions are the center of Pikmin reproduction as well, it seems likely that Pikmin are incapable of sexual reproduction. However, in Pikmin, flowering Pikmin will sometimes drop seeds when slain in battle, allowing for new Pikmin to sprout in their place, suggesting that they may be able to reproduce asexually, but also that they do not have defined sexes and are hermaphrodites like many plants. Pikmin also have a skeletal system, as seen when electrocuted. These bones however are incredibly flexible to the point of allowing the Pikmin to act like rubber (Although they can be flattened and killed with enough force).
Pikmin don't appear to have any sort of lungs (However, the Blue Pikmin are observed to have gill structures), but their leaves, buds, and flowers appear to serve as their main means of respiration, since poison gas or water droplets collecting around them suffocates the Pikmin; inversely, walking in shallow water in which their leaf/bud/flower does not touch (as seen in the Shower Room) is fine. When killed, Pikmin disappear and a ghost resembling the original Pikmin flies into the air, sometimes after releasing a liquid of the same color as the Pikmin, possibly the Pikmin equivalent to hemolymph or blood – this is best seen when the Cloaking Burrow-nit attacks.
Pikmin start off as seeds ejected from the Onion, which, after landing on the ground, transform into sprouts. A leader must pluck a sprout so that the Pikmin may come out or alternatively have the Pluckaphone whistle blown at them to "inspire" them. While idle, the Pikmin's leaves and flowers glow that Pikmin's respective color; that, coupled with a cutscene at the end of Pikmin 2, would suggest that Pikmin are somehow bioluminescent, though what causes this and what function(s) it might serve in the wild have never been explained.
Regular Pikmin are able to carry at least ten times their own weight, as evidenced by the ability of Blue Pikmin to lift and toss heavy Purple Pikmin when they are drowning in water and have even been shown to lift entire nuggets of gold roughly the size of the Pikmin. Pikmin are also capable of basic speech and can even be heard saying English phrases like "OK!", "Hi!", and "Yahoo!" after being plucked from the ground. When in a group they will sometimes sing parts of Ai no Uta in Pikmin 2. If left idle for a long time, Pikmin will moan at each other. From what is heard, it can be assumed that Pikmin language is very simple and primitive.
Stages
Pikmin can be divided into three stages. In the first of these, the Pikmin will have a leaf on their stem, which changes to a bud and then a flower as the stage increases. Leaf Pikmin are the slowest and least efficient at performing tasks, but as the stage goes up the movement speed and task efficiency increases. Along with that, Pikmin think more efficiently in both combat and task when in a higher stage as they sprout into their flower state when thinking of more elaborate plans.
In some situations, Pikmin can also instantly mature from leaf to flower if threatened by immediate danger. After this point, they will remain matured for the duration of their lifespan unless reverted back to a prior state in battle.
Pikmin can advance their current stage in several ways. The most common way is by being fed nectar. Alternatively, they may be left underground before being plucked, where they will gradually mature with time, or, in Pikmin 3, they can be sprayed. When knocked to the ground in battle in Pikmin and Pikmin 2, they have a chance of losing their maturity and decreasing in stage. They will never revert their current stage in Pikmin 3.
In Pikmin, if a flower Pikmin is shaken off, it will revert to a bud, and the bud will revert to a leaf in the same scenario. In Pikmin 2, however, flower Pikmin revert to leaf Pikmin immediately. Like flower Pikmin, buds can be received when leaf Pikmin are allowed to stay in the ground for a certain amount of time.
General Information Name: Pikmin (Name of species), Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, White Pikmin, Rock Pikmin, Winged Pikmin etcetera (Not all Pikmin types have been discovered as shown in the ending of Pikmin)
Sex: Unknown (Has no confirmed sex and are hermaphrodites like many plants)
Age: Unknown
Classification: Plant-like Creatures, Pikmin
Status:Active (The Pikmin species is currently thriving and has seen a massive growth thanks to the introduction of leaders to the Pikmin species)
Alignment:Unaligned (The Pikmin are driven mostly by instinct, which leads them to side with Olimar for survival purposes. Despite this, they do cherish Olimar and view him as a deity of sorts. Pikmin also seem to infect those they see as a leader, such as Moss, with a leafling to prevent them from leaving PNF-404 in hopes of surviving)
Codex Statistics
Tier: At least 10-C, Higher with Purple Pikmin, Far Higher with multiple of them attacking at once
Durability: At least Subhuman level (Puffmin can tank hits from Pikmin and Pikmin can tank hits from Puffmin), Higher for Purple Pikmin, Far Higher for Rock Pikmin (Unlike most Pikmin, Rock Pikmin can survive getting crushed by bosses that attack by crushing Pikmin, such as the Shaggy Long Legs)
Striking Strength: At least Subhuman Class, Higher with Purple Pikmin Far Higher with multiple of them attacking at once
Bomb Rocks: Bomb rocks are explosive rocks in the Pikmin games. Upon being activated, a rock's fuse starts going down (represented by a colored wheel), and when it reaches zero, the bomb causes a violent explosion, capable of damaging enemies, Pikmin, leaders and some obstacles. In the first and third games, they can be carried by Pikmin, but only by Yellow Pikmin in the former. In Pikmin 2, they are much larger and serve as obstacles instead of tools, with the exception being on the 2-Player Battle stage Hostile Territory, where they can be picked up and thrown by leaders. They can also appear as items in 2-Player Battle and Bingo Battle.
Other
Standard Tactics: Pikmin are incredibly dependant on a leader for instructions in and out of battle. If left on their own, they will typically latch onto the opponent and begin attacking them repeatedly.
Weaknesses: Aside from Bulbmin, every Pikmin either only resists one elemental type or none of them. Purples and Rocks resist no elemental types, and any Pikmin that's not a Blue Pikmin or Winged Pikmin can drown. Though if a Winged Pikmin does get caught off guard they can fall in the water and proceed to drown themselves. However this weakness can be avoided with the help of Blue Pikmin throwing them out of the water

Ultra-Spicy Spray: Ultra-spicy spray is a red-colored spray that can be obtained by gathering ten ultra-spicy berries from a Burgeoning Spiderwort plant or finding a concentrated dose. When used, any Pikmin in the party will become more be aggressive, making them more efficient at their tasks and instantly bloom into the flower stage as well.
Ultra-Bitter Spray: Ultra-bitter spray is the purple-colored spray that can be obtained from ten purple Burgeoning Spiderwort berries, or by finding a concentrated dose. When used, it temporarily turns any nearby enemy or bomb-rock into stone, rendering them unable to do anything. Alternatively, the spray can be used on Pikmin to bury them in the ground, making them unable to perform tasks.
Background
The S.S. Dolphin II is Captain Olimar's vessel in Hey! Pikmin. At the start of the game, Olimar is piloting the ship to head back to Hocotate, until he hits an asteroid and plummets to an unknown planet. The ship crashes against the ground, and stays in that state. The cone of the ship has a detachable pod with its own artificial intelligence. This pod guides Olimar throughout his adventure.
After the crash-landing, the ship requires certain amounts of Sparklium to recover its disabled features, and provide Captain Olimar with updates. A list can be found here.
The exploration pod is Olimar's assistant throughout the events of Hey! Pikmin, guiding him all along his adventure. It is the pod at the nose of the S.S. Dolphin II, and it houses the ship's cockpit room and artificial intelligence system. It is able to fly around freely and communicate with Olimar via a loudspeaker, as well as beam him and any Pikmin he's got with him inside, to return to the Pikmin Park. In general, it looks physically similar to the Research Pod in Pikmin 2.
The pod can be seen at the end of each area, serving as the exit. If the area has a secret exit, then the pod can be found in the location of both the normal exit and the secret one. The exploration pod is also present in the Pikmin Park, in some cutscenes at the beginning and the end of the game. At the start of the story, it helps the player learn the mechanics of the game.
General Information Name: S.S Dolphin II
Age: Unknown (The model appears to be rather new, and Olimar even calls the Hocotate Ship old in comparison. The S.S Dolphin II appears to be a direct upgrade to the original S.S Dolphin)
Other Weaknesses: Despite its incredibly powerful weaponry, the S.S Dolphin II seems to lack any defensive shields or barriers to protect itself from danger. Furthermore, a deadly enough hit can damage the Sparklium converter and tank, causing the ship to lose power.
Note: This is the S.S Dolphin II from Hey! Pikmin. Although there's no official statement on the canonicity of Hey! Pikmin, several implications suggest that it's an alternate timeline in which the events of Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe never occurred. Furthermore, due to Hey! Pikmin being a spin-off, the canonicity is put into even more question.
Sparklium Technology
Sparklium Jetpack
Sparklium Jetpack: Olimar's jetpack is a simple rocket-powered air tank that allows him to briefly fly in the air. The jetpack's fuel capacity is increased by the amount of Sparklium Olimar has access to.
Grants the player five Pikmin sprouts, if they have less than 50.
+10 Sprouts
Just like the previous, but ten sprouts.
Flower
Makes all of the player's Pikmin that are not planted in the ground bloom into flowers.
Ghost
Makes the player's leader and Pikmin become invisible to the opponent for a limited amount of time.
Ultra-bitter spray
Grants one dose of ultra-bitter spray.
Ultra-spicy spray
Grants one dose of ultra-spicy spray.
Marble return
Makes the player's marble, if above ground, bounce all the way back to the Onion, regardless of distance. Any opposing Pikmin carrying the marble will be knocked down.
Withering Blowhog
Makes a Withering Blowhog appear near the opponent's Onion.
Swooping Snitchbug
Makes a Swooping Snitchbug appear near the opponent's Onion.
Boulders
Makes several boulders drop near the opponent.
Volatile Dweevil
Drops a Volatile Dweevil near the opponent.

Description
+10 Pikmin
Makes the user's Onion generate ten of the player's starting Pikmin.
+5 Rare Pikmin
Makes the user's Onion spawn five of the type of Pikmin the player did not start with. This item is not available on maps that only have one type of Pikmin.
Lightning
Strikes opponents and their nearby non-Yellow Pikmin with an immobilizing current of lightning. Like all electric hazards in Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe, it simply immobilizes them, and proves no direct harm to the Pikmin.
Lucky Marble
Acts the same as if collecting a Lucky Marble.
Rock Storm
Causes four large boulders to fall near where the opponent's leader is standing, killing any non-Rock Pikmin. It's harder to dodge these boulders than their Pikmin 2 counterparts. A leader can escape intact if they are always moving throughout the storm. If the player knows that the strike is incoming, they can dismiss their Pikmin to minimize the death toll. These boulders can also harm leaders and Pikmin from the team that spawned them, as well as Pikmin that are shocked on the floor.
Ultra-spicy spray
Instantly makes the player's Pikmin gain the effects of an Ultra-spicy spray.
Enemy Annihilator
Kills all on-screen enemies.
Bomb
Causes a bomb rock to spawn in front of the player's leader.
Shuffle
Scrambles the opponent's bingo card. Although rare, it's possible that the items will be shuffled in a way that triggers a victory for the opponent.
Mine
Spawns a mine in front of the active leader. Pikmin can carry these, just like bomb rocks. When the Pikmin is thrown, the mine sticks to wherever the Pikmin hits, and will only detonate when a leader walks by.
Warp
Teleports the opponent to a random area on the map, along with any Pikmin in their current squad.
Macaroon Recovery
Transports the player's macaroon back to their Onion, even if it is already nearby.
Notable Techniques
Whistle: The whistle is a main part of the gameplay in the Pikmin games. It is the primary way of calling idle Pikmin and leaders over onto the active leader's group, the secondary way being the active leader bumping into them. Whistling can also be used to instantly rescue Pikmin who are under the effects of certain hazards, or Pikmin trapped by special enemy attacks. Throughout the series, the whistle has been modified and repurposed for multiple different techniques.
Call: By blowing the whistle for an extended period of time, any idol Pikmin or captains will be alerted and fall into line next to the captain issuing the command.
Dismiss: Using the dismiss signal alerts any Pikmin and captains following the current captain to separate into idol groups for further action.
Charge: The swarm command plays a sound equivalent to a blow horn which signals any active Pikmin groups in the captain's party to charge a targetted objective.
Swarm: The swarm technique directs any and all Pikmin in the captain's current troop to fall in on an objective in quick succession.
Whistle Upgrades:
The Mega Tweeter: The Mega Tweeter is obtained by defeating the Ranging Bloyster in the Shower Room and collecting the Amplified Amplifier. This upgrade increases the range of the whistles of all captains. The diameter of the visible circle projected on the ground increases to about 144% of its original size, thus more than doubling the area the whistle affects. This makes it easier to call scattered Pikmin to the captain's side, even when being slow in the Onions.
Pluckaphone: The Pluckaphone is obtained by defeating the Waterwraith in the Submerged Castle and collecting the Professional Noisemaker. It is an upgrade that allows the captain' whistles to call buried Pikmin out from the ground, saving precious time that would otherwise be spent plucking them out. As well as picking newly produced Pikmin at the Onions, this is useful for calling out Pikmin that were planted by wildlife in battle.
Dodge Roll: The Dodge Whistle can be found on a small cliff a short distance away from the exit to the Vehemoth Phosbat cave. It is an upgrade that allows captains to dodge left or right, guiding the Pikmin to do the same. It is done in a straight line normally, or in an arc around a locked-on target.
Throw: A standard technique which involves throwing a captain or Pikmin at an objective. This technique is used primarily to launch Pikmin at foes from a distance with risking as many casualties, at the risk of only being to throw one Pikmin at a time. All Pikmin have varying effects and different abilities in combat that allow them to stand out from their fellow speciemen.
Red Pikmin: Red Pikmin are the first Pikmin discovered in each of the three Pikmin games. They possess a standard throwing arc with average range. Due to their 1.5 times increased damage output, they are ideal for combat.
Yellow Pikmin: Yellow Pikmin are typically the second Pikmin discovered throughout the games (The exception being Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe). Due to their lighter body weight, they have the highest throwing arc in the series, and can easily reach most airborne enemies.
Blue Pikmin: Blue Pikmin are the last Pikmin species discovered in the games (Mainly due to their aquatic diversity). Thanks to their gills, Blue Pikmin excel both on land, and underwater, making them perfect for exploring in submerged areas without risk of drowning.
Purple Pikmin: Purple Pikmin are one of three Pikmin species discovered in the caves of Pikmin 2, and the first to be discovered. Their heavy weight and strength of ten regular Pikmin make them deadly warriors. Thanks to their weight, Purple Pikmin have the shortest throwing distance, but can create powerful shockwaves on impact with a solid surface.
White Pikmin: White Pikmin are one of three Pikmin species discovered in the caves of Pikmin 2 and are the second species to be found by Olimar and Louie. Their light bodies and small size allow them to be thrown the furthest. To add on, consumed White Pikmin can poison targets, instantly killing them.
Bulbmin: Bulbmin are one of three Pikmin species discovered in the caves of Pikmin 2 and are the final species to be discovered. Bulbmin are unique in that they possess the body of a juvenile bulborb, allowing to resist most elemtal hazards.
Rock Pikmin: Rock Pikmin are the second species of Pikmin to be discovered by the Koppaites in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Their rocky physiology gives them the most unique attack of all Pikmin, as throwing them does not latch them on to targets, but instead strike the target before bouncing off a short a distance.
Winged Pikmin: Winged Pikmin are the fourth species of Pikmin to be discovered by the Koppaites in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and the final new species. Their ability to fly makes Winged Pikmin the most capable aerial warriors of the Pikmin species. When thrown, they can latch onto targets, or home in on them when flying. The Winged Pikmin's biggest droback is its weaker attack output.
Other
Standard Tactics: Olimar will normally survey the situation alongside the S.S Dolphin II and use the Pikmin best for the situation at hand. He will also use his jetpack to out-maneuver his foe and get better positioning in combat.
Weaknesses: Must wear a spacesuit while on unknown planets. He mainly relies on his Pikmin to get work done, so losing all Pikmin causes him to become extremely depressed and drop everything he's doing to flee.
Note: Although the canonicity of Hey! Pikmin is still up in the air, there is overall more evidence going against it being canon than vice versa. For starters, Hey! Pikmin has to take place after the original trilogy to even make sense, yet Olimar makes no reference to the events of Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe, despite how prominent is third trip to PNF-404 was. Along with that, Olimar in Hey! Pikmin is incredibly naive in comparison to his appearance in the main games, to the point he's second guessing the biology of organisms he had already discovered. Lastly, nigh-identical Pikmin being present on an entirely separate planet with an Onion makes no sense when Olimar was the first to discover it on a random planet. The circumstances and narrative seem very odd for Pikmin's standards to be considered canon.
This indigenous creature protects its soft innards with a hard shell. All the best food is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Does that mean this creature is delicious? If only Louie was here.
I noticed some Pikmin in the wild, so I called out, "Hey!" But there was no response. Were they under some spell? I saw some mysterious writing under them... Maybe if I can decipher it,
I can figure out how to free them.
While life-forms that excrete foul musks to warn of danger are not rare, the doodlebug is the only species known to release flatulence when active above ground. Interestingly enough, since it is merely releasing the gas created by decay of the contents of the creature's intestines, it does not have a special musk-producing organ. This means the creature is in fact merely flatulating. Spectral analysis of the rank gas indicates it contains not only methane, but hydrogen sulfide as well, making the flatulence a Grade XIII biohazard.
All that is known about this creature stems from a few sightings deep underground. All reported sightings feature the same core set of details: a giant, viscous form with a clear, hazy sheen not unlike hard candy. One theory holds that it may be the ectoplasmic incarnation of a kind of psychic phenomenon, but as is usually the case with such theories, it is very difficult to prove. All witnesses report being suddenly overcome with fear upon sighting the creature, approaching a state of panic and near insanity. In fact, every report contains an inordinate amount of extremely vague details, which has led to suspicions that exhaustion and fear have caused some simple natural phenomenon to be viewed as a living creature.
These parasitic insects feed on eggs. Upon reaching maturity, they excrete a special pheromone that attracts females of particular species, enticing these females to swallow the mitites whole. (Pikmin, however, seem to dislike the scent.) After entering the host female's body, the mitites lay their own eggs inside the host's eggs just prior to the host spawning.
Besdies the fact that they serve as incubators and nests for Glow Pikmin, we know very little about the Lumiknoll's ecology.
when nocturnal creatures die, a Lumiknoll can break them down into glow pellets through the strong dissolving enzymes. This matter, when condensed, becomes glow sap.
One might assume glow sap is then an extremely dangerous substance, but it has hardly any negative effects. In fact, I've had it administered to me personally as a curative medicine to break down growing leaves.
Lumiknolls will only appear in places where an Onion was located earlier in the day, and since they propagate Glow Pikmin, one could surmise that they are rhizomes from those Onions. Perhaps, using its dissolving powers, it returns the nectar that supports the ecosystem back to the soil.
