...A world that loses its power will fade into nothing. If such is the fate of this world... Then I shall return it to its mother's womb. The world must first die, for it to be born again... This is the path to salvation, as foretold in an ancient prophecy. In what guise will you walk your path? (...) So, you prefer a new look? Then wear it well. The world will fall for its sins, and everyone living will vanish... But I won't let you meet the same fate. I want to help you hold on to your life. To do so, I need to know your name. Will you tell me who you are? (...) Naoki Kashima... That's right. As of now, your will to live shall sustain you. Believe in it... and survive. (...) I'm glad you understand. The time is near... Everything that is will be rewritten. I am the nurturer of the next world. The template for our future rests within my hands. Now, I want you to say my name aloud. That's right, Yuko Takao. Naoki... No. I won't shed another tear, not even at this world's end. Instead, I invite you to the world that is to come. Now go ahead, wake up. The time is here.

~ Yuko Takao to Demi-fiend during a dream sequence in NG+

Death's vastness holds no peace. I come at the end of the long road. Neither human, nor devil... all bends to my will.

The comfort of death will come, for men and demons alike... by the guidance of the Great Will
The Demi-fiend (人修羅, "Hitoshura") is the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Through the tradition of the series, he is a silent protagonist, where his personality is based upon players' actions and decisions. At the beginning of the game, the Demi-fiend is a blank slate, being unsure of the role he is to play in the world that is to come; creator or destroyer, master or servant. This is most clearly seen when Kagutsuchi scans his heart at the moment of the Conception. The divine being finds nothing there, no defined ideas or motives, and decides he needs to find his own ideology and Reason in the Vortex World.
During the game, his personality develops further depending on the choices of the player, molding him into a follower of either Reason or a person who rejects all of them, either through weakness, a true desire to see the world reborn, or an honest wish to end the eternal cycle of death and rebirth. The definitive moment is when Kagutsuchi, at the entrance of the Tower of Kagutsuchi, again scans his heart and determines what lies within.
Through the player's choices throughout the game, the Demi-fiend's personality can be developed further, revealing character flaws and strengths, changing others' viewpoints of him and affecting the possible ending, redefining the laws of reality and creating a new world.
He may support the Reason of Musubi, the belief of solitude and individualism. In this new universe, every individual would live in their own independent world, shaped from their mind to be their personal paradise, though fully separate from all other living beings. He may support the Reason of Shijima, based on stillness and oneness, and the suppression of human desires. It is a world of perfect harmony, without passion, conflict and destruction, and finally fully devoid of individuality. Or he could support the Reason of Yosuga, formed from elitism and the survival of the fittest. In this world, those who are weak are undeserving of life, while only the strong may become rulers, and power is the most important thing there is. It is a world of paranoia, fear and carnage.
However, the Demi-fiend may choose to reject all said reasons and follow his own path. In the Demon Path, he will lack the Reason to create a new world, and instead chooses to forego the process of creation, leave the Vortex World as the barren, desolate land populated solely by demons that it is. Through the Freedom Path, the Demi-fiend may revert the world to how it was before, and every human being killed by the Conception is reincarnated, though as explained by Kagutsuchi, the world of men is one of chaos, suffering and without future.
Finally, the Demi-fiend may walk the True Demon Path, rejecting all Reasons and freeing himself from the last vestiges of his humanity. Becoming a complete demon of Darkness, allying himself with Lucifer, he kills Kagutsuchi, ending the cycle of Death & Rebirth, the Amala Universe and the concept of time itself. He and Lucifer then march onward, leading all demonkind in the final battle against God himself.

Name: The Demi-fiend / Hitoshura, The Demonic Man, The Chaos King, Naoki Kashima (Drama CD name), Shin Managi (Nocturne Konton name)
Classification: Formerly Human. Half-Demon, Messiah, later becomes a full-on Demon should he take The True Demon Path. Devil Summoner, "King Of Chaos"
Status:Alive in all other endings. Other during the True Demon Ending (Was cursed by YHVH to live for all eternity, in which Demi-fiend is neither alive or dead, something he himself hinted at when he is defeated in Digital Devil Saga)
Alignment:True Neutral initially (From what is known in the main series, the Demi-fiend is someone of very little personality or background surrounding him; shedding no emotion when his best friend, Isamu, was knocked away by Thor and instead waited until the last second to confront him when he had every opportunity to take him down. Kagutsuschieven described him as having nothing stirring within him, "Not even a hint of Reason" despite being a chosen messiah. Even when the Multiverse was reworked into the Vortex World and had his humanity stripped away from him, there was barely any reaction from him other than hints of confusion. Even so, Demi-fiend's heart is not of Good or Evil in spite of his demonic nature, as he was willing enough to cooperate with Jyoji Hijiri due to his naive and trusting nature; a trait that would later go on to be used by many others in the franchise, serving as a main flaw for the Demi-fiend. During the game, his personality develops further depending on the choices of the player, molding him into a follower of three Reasons or a person who rejects all of them, either through weakness, a true desire to see the world reborn, or an honest wish to end the eternal cycle of death and rebirth), Chaotic Good in the Drama CD (Now given the name "Naoki Kashima", he's shown to be an upstanding, independent person who does not tolerate bullies and despises the weak that cannot walk on their own. He believes that a person should stand on their own feet to create their own destiny), Neutral Good should he follow the Freedom Path (If his connection to the old world is strong enough, the protagonist can opt to turn Tokyo back to how it was before, provided that he does not fully support any one of the Reasons nor succumb to his demonic side. In the Freedom path, the protagonist faces a furious Kagutsuchi who accuses him of being seduced by freedom, similar to how the fallen angel was before. After the protagonist proves his strength in the end, a dying Kagutsuchi laments how absurd it is that his power would be used not to create a new world, but to revert it to its original state as a world of suffering), Chaotic Neutral should he follow the True Demon Path (In the Maniacs version, the Demi-fiend can choose to ignore all of the Reasons and Alignments altogether. To do so, the Demi-fiend must accept and fulfill the old man's request of retrieving all the Candelabra and venture into the deepest area of the Labyrinth of Amala. God would soon fear the Demi-fiend's vast capabilities and Lucifer's influence towards him. At the entrance to the Second Kalpa, Metatron will relay God's warning to the Demi-fiend to stop meeting up with the dark angel. Regardless of his answer, the Demi-fiend can still opt to go into the Labyrinth. Should the Demi-fiend prevail against Metatron and manage to reach the deepest area of the Fifth Kalpa to meet up with the old man, the lady in black will express gratitude towards the Demi-fiend's efforts. For the sake of the demon race, the Demi-fiend has willingly thrown away the last vestiges of his humanity to become an agent of chaos, completely allying himself with the 'dark angel' in the battle against the absolute one. She also tells the Demi-fiend that he will soon be reborn, this time as a True Demon. But before he is totally accepted into the fold, the Demi-fiend must prove his worth by thwarting the respective ambitions of the three holders of Reason, as well as the main obstacle in the form of Kagutsuchi itself. After the Demi-fiend receives a surge of demonic powers from the old man, the platform he was standing on sinks into the red waters. The old man looks at him and smiles, having succeeded in his plans of indirectly creating the strongest demon among demons. The Demi-fiend awakens once more in the Shinjuku Medical Center morgue, and finds that the very first Magatama he ingested has a new power which will allow his physical attacks to bypass most kinds of protection, a fearsome ability befitting his new identity. As a True Demon, Demi-fiend can no longer accept the influences of all the other Reasons, as he is now set on the deviant path as a servant of darkness. The 'True Demon' Path ends with the Demi-fiend killing Kagutsuchi, freeing all the worlds from the control of the Great Will in the process. With the concept of time now dead and the cycle of creation put to a complete halt, the universe totally collapses and everything is thrust into darkness. Lucifer will then reveal that he has been watching the Demi-fiend all this time in the guise of both the young child and the old man. While he is pleased with the results, it remains to be seen if the Demi-fiend is ultimately capable of leading the way to vanquish the true enemy. Lucifer assumes his real form as the fallen angel and thrusts the Demi-fiend into battle to measure the true limits of his dark power. Emerging victorious, the Demi-fiend becomes the secret weapon who will tip the balance of Light and Darkness, champion of the legions of chaos in the final battle against the Great Will. In his brief appearance in the Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse DLC, the Demi-fiend is slightly impatient and imposing, as well as having a lust for battle to a certain degree, evident by his desire for a rematch with Lucifer)

However, this move takes 25% of Demi-fiend's total health to preform), Passive Attack Reflection (With the passive skill named "Avenge" Demi-fiend has a 50% chance to block and reflect any physical damage that is delt to him), Passive Damage Transferal (With the passive skill called "Attack All", Demi-fiend can transfer all damage that is delt to one opponent spread it to every other enemy on the field), Explosion Manipulation, Resistance Manipulation, Damage Boost, Earth Manipulation, and Power Nullification (In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Gaea Rage costs 35% of his maximum HP to use, and has a critical rate of 30% and an evasion rate of 3%. It is exclusive to the Demi-fiend. In Shin Megami Tensei IV, Gaea Rage deals heavy Almighty damage to all foes and is a skill exclusive to Sanat. He will only use this attack if being hit by Gun skills or if Tetrakarn is utilized. When fighting against him, Gaea Rage also has a 30% chance of rendering Flynn's demons "Lost". In Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, Gaea Rage deals severe Almighty damage to all enemies and debuffs their defense by two stages. It is exclusive to the Demi-fiend and he only joins Nanashi for the second fight against Stephen as a temporary ally in the DLC "Messiahs of the Diamond Realm." In Shin Megami Tensei V, Gaea Rage is one of Demi-fiend's signature skills at the end of the Return of the True Demon DLC subquest. Gaea Rage deals a very high amount of affinity-piercing physical damage, far in excess of the 999 health cap, instantly killing the protagonist's party unless a passive such as Enduring Soul is used. The Demi-fiend will only use it if 5 of his Press turns pass without him summoning a demon, or if the party utilizes an attack mirror or Tetrakarn. The protagonist can obtain Gaea Rage via Essence Fusion using the Demi-fiend's essence, acquired by defeating the Demi-fiend. It deals severe Physical damage to all enemies that ignores affinity. In Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, Gaea Rage is a skill used exclusively by the Demi-fiend. It deals incredibly high Almighty damage, far above the 999 health cap, instantly killing any party member it hits. He will only use it after every two demons summoned or when the party equips any skills that nullify attacks. It can only be dodged using Close Call (user survives with 1 HP), Null Sleep (guarantees 100% evasion while inflicted with Sleep), or the highly unlikely possibility that it is dodged normally. Almighty damage bypasses all immunities and resistances as well as shields. These skills also bypass law defense as well), Ice Manipulation (With a skill named "Bufudyne", Demi-fiend is able to attack all of his opponents with ice damage), Air Manipulation and Superhuman Physical Characteristics (With the skill named "Zandyne", Demi-fiend is able to attack all of his opponents with force damage), Weapon Usage (With the move named "Myriad Arrows", Demi-fiend is able to deal high Ranged damage to all opponents), Attack Reflection (With the skill called "Tetrakarn", Demi-fiend is able to block and reflect all physical damage delt to him), ResistsPhysical skills. Weak to Force skills, Expel skills, Death skillsExplosion Manipulation, Resistance Manipulation, Damage Boost, Statistics Amplification, Velocity Manipulation, Undodgeable Attacks, and Power Nullification (Via skills such as "Megido", "Judgement", "Necro Dogma", "Megidolaon", "Curse Thy Enemy", "Homeland Song", and "Kuyo Flash". Demi-fiend can unleash a blast that deals heavy/mega almighty damage to all foes via "Megido" and "Megidolaon". "Judgement" deals medium almighty damage to all foes. Neutral target takes 50% more damage. "Necro Dogma" deals almighty damage to one enemy and splash damage to the rest, along with increasing own parties DEF by 20%. "Curse Thy Enemy" deals Heavy almighty damage to all foes. Damage is always regarded as exploiting "weakness" and grants turn icon advantage. "Homeland Song" deals 2~3 hits of heavy almighty damage to multiple foes. "Kuyo Flash" inflicts Almighty damage on all enemies. When attack is successful, reduces DEF and EV/AC of all enemies by 20%, increases own party's ATK and EV/AC by 20% for 1 turn. The damage inflicted by this skill is dependent on Phys ATK. Almighty damage bypasses all shields, immunities, reflectors, invulnerability, and resistances when they land, bypassing any defensive ability, even against users wielding the Omnipotent orb, which bends the rules of reality to defend the user from attacks),Electricity Manipulation (via "Mazionga", deals medium electric damage to all foes), Darkness Manipulation, Paralysis Inducement & Death Manipulation (via "Mamudo", a dark magic skill that has a chance of inflicting instant death to all foes. Heaven's Bow deals heavy gun damage to all foes. Grudge Sword deals massive dmg that drains MAG on contact), Sheer Will, Healing, Restoration, Resurrection, and Willpower (Megami Tensei) (With the passive move "Enduring Soul", Demi-fiend is able endure a fatal blow and restore all of his HP after it is depeleted by an enemy. With the passive skill Victory Cry, Demi-fiend can restore all of his HP & MP at the end of a battle), Fear Manipulation (via Guardian's Eye, an ability that grants the user 3 blinking press turn icon, allowing them to act before the opponent can. Similar to abilties such as Beast Eye in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne), Resistance Manipulation, Velocity Manipulation, Attack Reflection, Power Nullification, and Damage Boost (via the passive skill Gun Pierce, all gun attacks bypass all gun resistances but repel. Warlord's Wrath adds phys pierce and has a 100% counter that will activate when receiving physical attacks. If enemy attacks first at beginning of battle, it will reduce 2 enemy Press Turn Icons. Only up to 2 Press Turn Icons can be reduced by skills or effects. Occult Flash inflicts phys damage with 50% crit rate on a single enemy, with 100% chance to inflict Mortal. Nullifies all death prevention skills), Purification and Power Nullification (via Silent Prayer, a skill that negates all stat buffs and debuffs from all allies and foes), Statistics Amplification & Statistics Reduction (via Charge, a buff skill that multiplies user's next physical or gun damage by 2.5. Concentrate multiplies user's next magical damage by 2.5. Tarukajaon raises Phys attack for all allies until battle ends. Phys Amp is a passive skill that increases physical damage by 25%. Epitome of Swiftness increases this demon's effect on Battle Speed by 25%, +10% to Phys EV. Epitome of Aggression adds 15% to Phys hit rate, -45% chance of receiving status ailments.Auto-Rakunda and Auto-Sukunda, both of which are passive debuffing skills that lowers defense and speed. Defensive Cry reduces all enemy ATK and increases own parties DEF by 20% for 3 turns.), Martial Arts (Conqueror Spirit deals 2 hits of heavy physical damage to all foes), Fire Manipulation, Status Effect Inducement, and Resistance Manipulation (via Hellfire, which deals Severe Piercing Fire dmg. Can cause Stun), PassiveAttack Reflection (Capital's Fury is a passive skill that has a high chance of countering all damage taken. Faithful Counter has a 100% chance to counter dealing Phys damage. Can passively repel fire, ice, elec, force, and physical attacks), Homing Attack & Status Effect Inducement (via Flying Head chases target, inflicts random ailments + stun), Spatial Manipulation & Durability Negation (via Vorpal Blade. Deals heavy Phys damage to all foes. This skill, literally translated as "Spatial Killing Method", involves cutting through space to deal multiple slash damage). Voids and AbsorbsPhysical Attacks, Fire, Ice, Electricity, Force, Light, Dark, Status Effect Inducement (Poison, Mirage, Panic, Sleep, Paralysis, Sick, Charm,Sealing/Power Nullification, Stone, Rage). Resists:Explosion Manipulation, Resistance Manipulation, Undodgeable Attacks (Resists Almighty attacks)
The following Skills are unique to the Demi-fiend and have dedicated animations. Other Skill animations are general-purpose (e.g. all magic Skills use the same animation). Moreover, abilities featured on here originate back to his boss fight in Digital Devil Saga and Shin Megami Tensei VSuperhuman Physical Characteristics, Energy Projection, Statistics Amplification, Resistance Manipulation, Statistics Reduction and Damage Boost (Spiral Viper shoots an energy blast that deals mega physical damage to one foe with medium critical rate. Divine Shot deals heavy physical damage to one foe. Medium critical rate. Deadly Fury deals heavy Physical damage to all foes with a high critical rate, and a moderate chance of making the Demi-fiend Smirk. With the boost "Smirk", Demi-fiend will be able to pierce through non-repel fire skills. The effects of Smirking include maximizing buffs like Tarukaja (boosts attack damage), boosting critical chance of attacks to 95% and 70% for phys and gun respectively, boosting hit rate of normal attacks and physical skills to 100%, removing the unit's weakness and preventing the enemy's critical chance, and boosting evasion rate to 85% against all incoming attacks, but with no changes to ailment infliction chances. For this reason, it is more beneficial if Smirk is triggered near the end of the player phase to take full advantage of its defensive aspects. If all 4 player combatants are Smirked at the same time, they will have half of their maximum HP and MP recovered. The attack power enhancement bonus of Smirk will not alter any previously applied stat modifiers if the Smirking unit has not maximized all stat enhancements or is under any stat penalty effect; the stat modifier will revert to the state before receiving Smirk. Pierce allows the user's physical attacks to bypass all resistances, except for Repel), Fire Manipulation (via Magma Axis, deals mega fire damage to one foe), Explosion Manipulation, Resistance Manipulation, Damage Boost, Earth Manipulation, and Power Nullification (In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Gaea Rage costs 35% of his maximum HP to use, and has a critical rate of 30% and an evasion rate of 3%. It is exclusive to the Demi-fiend. In Shin Megami Tensei IV, Gaea Rage deals heavy Almighty damage to all foes and is a skill exclusive to Sanat. It deals incredibly high Almighty damage, far above the 999 health cap, instantly killing any party member it hits. He will only use it after every two demons summoned or when the party equips any skills that nullify attacks), Curtain Fire, Energy Manipulation, Sealing/Power Nullification and Paralysis Inducement (via Xeros-Beat; After bending the body for a while and focusing the power, the body is made to emit light, and a myriad of light rays are emitted from the Full Body toward the Enemy Party. Damage + BIND (paralysis) effect is applied to the entire Enemy Party. Due to the performance of having a BIND effect, its power is low for 40% HP consumption. Javelin Rain is a unique skill for the Demi-fiend, it has him charge energy to his right foot, then throws a rolling sobat, shooting a myriad of light rays at all.
It consumes 40% of HP and is the same value as Xeros Beat, but not only is it stronger, it can inflict Mute on any enemy that is not immune to Physical and/or Death. It deals severe physical damage to all enemies in SMT V. Oni-Kagura is a skill exclusive to the Demi-fiend. He fires a wave of purple particles at the enemy party. Oni-Kagura consumes 30% HP and has a moderately increased critical hit rate.), Explosion Manipulation, Resistance Manipulation, Damage Boost, and Power Nullification (With the skill "Freikugel", Demi-fiend is able to deal mega almighty damage to one opponent. This skill has high accuracy and has a medium chance to land a critical hit. This skill is also tied to the user's strength stat), Resurrection (Samarecarm revives aan ally, and fully restores their HP), Healing (Mediarahan recovers HP to all allies), Passive Statistics Amplification (Almighty Pleroma is a passive skill that strengthens Almighty attacks), Death Manipulation, Darkness Manipulation, Velocity Manipulation & Willpower Manipulation (With Chaotic Will, Demi-fiend focuses his dark magic and releases a blast that shrouds the screen in darkness that has a high chance of inducing instant death on all foes, and if it does not, it will cut all turns in half)
Magatamas: Magatama (マガタマ*) are a parasitic entity appearing in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, which functions as a combination of armor, weapon and spellbook. Throughout the game, the protagonist can collect a total of 25 Magatama, all sorted by three elements, Dark, Neutral and Light. Most of them can be bought in Junk Shops, but others can only be gained by defeating bosses or completing special tasks.

Notable Techniques
Demi-fiend normal attacks
Demi-fiend slide punching in Digital Devil Saga
Slide Punch: Also known as "Attack" in game, it is a low damage dealing physical attack that involves Demi-fiend sliding to his opponent and thrusting his fist at them. Hence the title. Uses this in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga
Pass: Allows Demi-fiend to pass on his turn to the ally next to him, making the press turn icon "blink" indicating that specific turn has not been used up entierly.
Demi-fiend summoning his demons in Digital Devil Saga
Demi-fiend summoning his demons in Shin Megami Tensei V
Summon: Allows Demi-fiend to summon a demon from his party. Along with this, he can return a demon back to stock or part with them, similarly to how a COMP can seal demons within the summoning program. As Demi-fiend is a half demon, he innately has these unique abilities and does not require a COMP unlike other characters from the series.
Talk: Allows Demi-fiend to communicate and invite a demon to join his party. Typically involves giving up macca, answering questions to the demons liking, or giving them certain items that they request.
Escape: Escape is normally a player-exclusive ability. Escaping will return the user and the party back to the overworld. While in combat, the skill can be used while the player turn is active, but there is only a chance of success; if the odds fail, the turn will be used up, giving the enemy opportunity to attack again. The success rate for escape is decided either by the Agility stat, Luck stat or both. On principle, low-level encounters can be escaped easily. Especially useful when there are no other options left for the player, it is a secret last resort technique.
Load: Loads back to a previous save file, transporting Demi-fiend to the last Terminal he went to
Suspend: Creates a suspend data to allow Demi-fiend to continue off where he saved
Spiral Viper: After deeply inhaling and gathering attention to the upper body, Demi-fiend emits a beam of light with a green thunder toward Enemy. Although the cost is 18% of HP consumed and it is not much different from the Physical Skill "Divine Shot", this skill's power makes it the strongest single-target physical skill and the critical rate is also slightly high, so if one were to use it after using Focus, it will normally hit over 1000 damage under normal circumstances.
Magma Axis: The Demi-fiend conjures flames on both palms, then launches a blast of heat towards a single target. Despite Magma Axis consuming 30% HP, it is a magic skill that can be sealed by Mute. This skill is affected by Fire Boost, which increases the power of the skill by 1.5.
Divine Shot: Divine Shot is a single targeting, Heavy-tier Physical Skill that consumes 13% HP, a lower cost than most other physical Magatama skills for the Demi-fiend. It also has a moderate chance to score a critical hit.
Demi-fiend performing Gaea Rage in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
Demi-fiend performing Gaea Rage in Digital Devil Saga
Demi-fiend performing Gaea Rage in Shin Megami Tensei V'
Gaea Rage: One of Demi-fiend's most iconic and notorius techniques. In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Gaea Rage costs 35% of his maximum HP to use, and has a critical rate of 30% and an evasion rate of 3%. It is exclusive to the Demi-fiend.
Xeros-Beat: After bending the body for a while and focusing the power, the body is made to emit light, and a myriad of light rays are emitted from the Full Body toward the Enemy Party. Damage + BIND (paralysis) effect is applied to the entire Enemy Party. Due to the performance of having a BIND effect, its power is low for 40% HP consumption.
Demi-fiend performing Javelin Rain in Nocturne
Demi-fiend performing Javelin Rain in Digital Devil Saga
Demi-fiend performing Javelin Rain in Shin Megami Tensei V
Javelin Rain: A unique skill for the Demi-fiend, it has him charge energy to his right foot, then throws a rolling sobat, shooting a myriad of light rays at all. It consumes 40% of HP and is the same value as Xeros Beat, but not only is it stronger, it can inflict Mute on any enemy that is not immune to Physical and/or Death. In the later half of the story, many enemy demons that are resistant to all magic will appear, so it is useful against them. In Shin Megami Tensei V, it deals severe physical damage to all enemies, has a cost of 90 MP with no Physical Skill Affinity upgrades and has a chance of inflicting Seal.
Demi-fiend performing Deadly Fury in Nocturne
Demi-fiend performing Deadly Fury in SMT IVA
Demi-fiend performing Deadly Fury in SMT V
Deadly Fury: The Demi-fiend puts his hands together as if drawing a sword, forming energy into a blade before drawing it in a horizontal slash towards the enemy. Deadly Fury consumes 32% HP and its power is greater than the skill "Oni-Kagura." Despite its cost, it has a very high critical rate and thus easy to get a half Press Turn icon using it, so it is a useful technique in a late-game normal battle against multiple opponents. In Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, Deadly Fury is one of the Demi-fiend's skills in the DLC "Messiahs of the Diamond Realm." It deals heavy Physical damage to all foes with a high critical rate, and a moderate chance of making the Demi-fiend Smirk. It costs 45 MP. In Shin Megami Tensei V, Deadly Fury returns as one of the Demi-fiend's unique skills. It is a single target Physical skill that will always land as a critical hit. As the Demi-fiend cannot join the player's party, it can instead be taught to the Nahobino through the Demi-fiend's Essence.
Demi-fiend performing Freikugel with a Focus buff, dealing an incredible amount of damage
Demi-fiend performing Freikugel in Shin Megami Tensei V
Freikugel: One of Demi-fiend's most deadliest and ultimate techinques. The Demi-fiend charges magical power in front of his face, before launching deadly beams from his eyes at a single enemy. It has the highest offensive power Demi-fiend can learn, and exerts unreasonable power when applying auxiliary magic. Because it is an Almighty-based physical skill, it is effective against all enemies and can be amplified by Focus. In Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, Freikugel is exclusive to the Demi-fiend in the quest "Messiahs in the Diamond Realm." It deals heavy Almighty damage to a single target, and is complemented further by the Demi-fiend's passive skills Pierce and Almighty Pleroma. In Shin Megami Tensei V, Freikugel is no longer tied solely to the Demi-fiend, though it is part of his skillset during his boss fight as the final part of the Return of the True Demon DLC, with the skill animation from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne returning. It is a severe-tier Almighty skill that runs off of the caster's Strength stat and has a high chance of getting a critical off of one target.
Oni-Kagura: Oni-Kagura is a skill exclusive to the Demi-fiend. He fires a wave of purple particles at the enemy party. Oni-Kagura consumes 30% HP and has a moderately increased critical hit rate.
Chaotic Will: It has chance of instant-kill and always halves the turn icons of all enemies (even if the instant-kill effect misses). If the enemy's icon count is an odd number, one icon will become a blinking (half) icon

Standard Tactics: As a half demon, Demi-fiend has access to a plethora of magical spells under his belt that he has no issue in utilizing. He is a formidabble opponent that has trihumped against many fiends through his sharp mind, with his tactics pulling him through agaisnt unlikely odds. His starting move greatly varies on the opponent and the path he decides to take, but skills obtained early game such as Analyze will guide his action, along with his status as a messiah typically allowing him to make the right decisions. Fighting isn't the only option he has to his disposal, as he can negogtiate with the enemy to get them to join his cause, which for the most part have proven to be successful, especially with certain skills enabling such odds; The True Demon Path even displays Demi-fiend's capability of commanding a large mass of demon followers. Unlike other protagonists from the SMT series, Demi-fiend has the innate ability to summon demons without the use of a COMP or consuming MAG, allowing him to set up a poweful versatile team to back him up in fights; and as seen in his boss fights, he seems to always open up with demon summoning. Throughout the course of Nocturne however, The Players may find it that they may have to make use of the Auto feature to Slide Punch through fodder enemies. Tedious, but an effective method nontheless.
Weaknesses: Shown to be rather trusting and naive initially, though in paths such as the Freedom Path, he is able to walk his own path; unhindered by others intentionally taking control of him. Weak to certain skills depending on the Magatama he ingests, though these weaknesses disappear later down his journey. Demons are weak to mercuric sulfide[41][42][43][44].

"While it's too dangerous to try and conjecture the state of affairs in the demon world based on our own knowledge of this one, my theory is that the demon world is like a colloidal conglomeration of countless mini-universes, each centered around a powerful demon. Most likely, with Loki's death, the mini-universe in contact with Japan or Tokyo vanished, and Set's mini-universe entered to take its place. Demon summoning is just opening a contact point between the two worlds at the same time."

He is the omnipotent existence that created heaven and earth and made man in his own image, but this also means that together with the angels, his bunrei [subparts], he also gave birth to demons. By giving humans bodies of flesh and bone, their lives and fears were repeated in the endless cycle of death and rebirth, restricting their range of observation.
↑The reason YHVH is harmed during this fight is due to humanity's observation weakening him, as there's no reason for YHVH to be lying
↑Note: The reasoning for this is that Demi-fiend in the prior two fights has his signature red glow state when he's close to defeat, showing that the characters are doing significant damage and harm to him and that he's fighting seriously, however in Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE he simply falls on one knee and immediately gets back up, showing a very casual vision of the fight

From what I've just seen, there's no mistake that a magnetic field suitable for summoning a demon was set up. It may be that the reason no demon appeared was that it might have arrived in the Assiah world via a different magnetic field." "There’re still some details about the mechanism for demon summoning that I don't really understand yet." "Unusual words, coming from the genius that was the first to successfully summon a demon via a computer." Feed grinned broadly, but his expression soon turned grave as he looked directly at Nakajima. ↑Shioda: Is it correct to think that humanity was created by the Great Reason rather than by the gods? Yamai: In the beginning, I believe, pure humans were made as observers of the universe. Then, as time passed, gods and polytheism appeared as the result of their perception of the surrounding world. Miyata: Nozomi says at some point that it’s all right for people to be unsure, but in the underground it is believed that the gods are one of the answers hypothesised by humans. From her point of view, the gods are a symbol of the ideal imagined by humans and the perfect form envisioned by them as their target, their final point. Monotheism, on the other hand, only has one final target, but there are many ideals to pursue. This is tied to Nozomi’s lines above. It’s all right if there are bad guys and if there are good people, there will also be fickle ones. Nozomi’s credo is that everyone should choose their own destination. Yamai: Even when talking about the creation of the universe, I think the birth of the Great Reason is beyond our ideals. The universe we can observe stretches over 130 billion light years, but we don’t know how it managed to appear from nothing. Gods like Izanagi, who birthed out of his eyes and nose, were perhaps a symbol of a farming culture, but they had a power that surpassed the humans’ power of understanding and I dare say that in the case of the Great Reason too, if emotions were to arise, those emotions themselves would become gods. I’m talking about that kind of creation. For example, the wish to be worshipped gave birth to YHVH, or seeing the fights between humans signified the appearance of Lucifer. I think this is similar to the trends and movements born out of people’s shared consciousness nowadays. Let’s look at Japan’s concept of cuteness: if it spread throughout the whole world, maybe it would lead to the birth of a new god. I had this vague thought that the backbone of the Great Reason would begin like a pure baby who would pick up various emotions through touch, gradually learning about its surroundings. Shioda: So it’s something along the lines of a god born out of the collective unconscious which came from shared awareness? Yamai: That’s right, don’t you all just love it? (laughs) Miyata: I certainly think there is some sort of huge collective unconscious, but I never really thought it might be connected to the Great Reason. And speaking of shared awareness, the scale would be quite small depending on the surroundings; the Japanese would have their shared awareness, but it would be different from that of foreigners. For example, even if the Japanese saw themselves as without religion, they’d look Buddhist to foreigners. This kind of thing leads me to think that the Great Reason is not at the surface of shared awareness, but belongs instead to an extremely deep part of the origin. Shioda: I personally think that the term ‘bunrei’ [spirit divisions] often used to name gods in the story is extremely important in this game. The Great Reason is the origin. Does that make YHVH and all the other gods ‘bunrei’? Yamai: Yes, it does. I think we can explain the existence of ‘bunrei’ through polytheism resulted from human perception. In the Celtic world, the druids saw Dagda as the forefather of sorcerers, but this was different for the Norse people or the Germanic culture. The people of each civilisation would see things as it fit them, so we got Odin instead. ‘Bunrei’ are born like this, but then again, treating Dagda and Odin as identical is wrong. Their powers and responsibilities are different, so it’s better for them to be thought of as different entities. Let’s have a look at YHVH: when he was born, humans perhaps observed YHVH himself, but once the scriptures were written, Uriel would be the one to be noticed and maybe that’s why he made so many appearances in their pages. Uriel frequently appearing as YHVH’s messenger also kind of feels like an accessory that comes to the front in order to preserve YHVH’s solemnity. But that is the result of the perception of later people, so we can also say that Uriel is a part [bunrei] of YHVH.
↑Shioda: Professor Matsuda didn’t even have a character design in the preliminary stages. Miyata: It’s shocking that so few people realised professor Matsuda was actually Stephen. Shioda: That was shocking indeed, and they even had the same voice actor (laughs). What kind of device is the Shesha radar in Hibiya? Miyata: I saw news the other day about the success of the detection of gravitational waves and this radar works on the same principle. There is a huge empty lot underneath Hibiya named ‘multi-purpose underground utility conduit’ and it is presumed that that is where Stephen built his detector. Yamai: Because the device related to the elementary particles is extremely big. Miyata: He also needed a secure place, and the underground was much safer than the streets dominated by demons. It is explained in the beginning of SMT4A that the multi-purpose underground utility conduit has been abandoned because of the battle of gods and the underground empty space remained as it is. I figured it was just right, since the new headquarters of the Hunter Association in Kasumigaseki is close enough, but I didn’t think gravitational waves would be discovered so fast when I was writing the setting. Yamai: Stephen travels through various parallel worlds, so I believe it is possible for him to discover gravitational waves, since he makes contact with all kinds of technological developments. Miyata: Gravitational waves appear anywhere in the universe when stars reach the end of their lives and explode, but every time Shesha warped to a different universe and a different dimension, there were weak gravitational waves released possible to detect. Shioda: Since Stephen is also the creator of the terminals and the Demon Summoning Program, related to the Yamato Perpetual Reactor, it’s easy to say he is the biggest mystery of the Megaten series. Yamai: What is clear is that Stephen is the same person across the series. Shin Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei II are related, while Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei IV are each in their own universes, but we can argue that he is the only one to cross space and time and visit each universe. I think the beginning was the universe created in Shin Megami Tensei, but we have no intention to give a clear answer on such a personal matter. As for the details of his arrival in the Shin Megami Tensei IV world, when he was researching the Demon Summoning Program and the Matter Transfer System he got connected by coincidence to the Expanse, demons showed up and hurt him badly, which led to him being now dependent on a wheelchair. Shioda: This time he talks about the aim of the Great Reason in the end. Do you think he has met the Great Reason? *From Dijeh (Basically just a translators note): The term used here is NOT the Great Will. The Japanese for Great Will [of the Universe] is either “宇宙の大いなる意志” or just “大いなる意志” in previous games in the series, while in SMT4F and this interview, the term is 大いなる理; the kanji used are easily distinguishable: 意志 vs. 理. For more about the distinction, see Will and Li. Yamai: From the perspective of Shin Megami Tensei, the Stephen of Shin Megami Tensei IV is one of the possibilities, but we can say it was possible for him to have met the Great Reason. Of course, from the perspective of Shin Megami Tensei IV’s Stephen, I think we can say Shin Megami Tensei is also a possibility. Miyata: Stephen’s position allows him to catch a glimpse of a small part of the Great Reason’s movement. When he passed through time and space and made contact with the Great Reason, he interpreted things in his own way.
↑Yamai: When you reach the battle with VISHNUFLYNN, there is a reference point of the soul, where it either enters or departs from the circle of transmigration. Nanashi is in the middle of that circle, he is a human just like us. That is the reference. Beings like Stephen, Mido, or the Count of Saint Germain left the circle of transmigration, and I think that is why they could get in contact with the Great Reason. Shioda: In Buddhism, leaving the circle of transmigration equals reaching Nirvana and becoming a buddha. Yamai: That’s right. This time, in order for the Divine Powers to succeed, various currents of thought from all kinds of countries and religions come into play. The Buddhist view on reincarnation is one of them and our setting is not biased towards it, but the soul itself is something important for the gods. Shin Megami Tensei IV adopts a quantum theory approach according to which gods exist thanks to human perception, and religious beliefs are one part of that.

Nakajima all of a sudden found himself hovering over a battlefield. Below him was a hair-raising sight. An unbelieveably large lump of flesh, a hideous tower of raw meat, was slowly writhing. Its pale green, transparent gelatinous membrane was greedily expanding at its base. Several long black rivers flowed into it. No, what looked like black rivers were actually the hair of the people heading toward the tower. Tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people tore off their clothes and proceeded forward completely naked. Rapid explosions echoed through the air. The SDF's F14 jets scrambled from the 7th fleet were attacking, targeting the top of the tower so as to minimize injury to the humans below. A rain of bullets from an attack helicopter's machine guns sprayed through the air. Though that ammunition was capable of penetrating tank armor, it was absorbed without any resistance into the body of the ever-expanding otherworldly creature, as if it was laughing at the pathetic attack. It was almost as if it was trying to prove that any attacks against it would be futile."
↑Narisawa: Now, let’s change the subject. I’d like to talk about the Abyss or the demon areas. This time the Abyss is designed like the Sephiroth Tree. We need to read the strategy guide in order to understand that, but is this how you originally envisioned it? Okada: I said earlier that Tokyo Millenium and the Underworld are in contrast but generally speaking, their opposite is the Abyss. It’s like saying Lucifer is Satan’s opposite. Narisawa: Kabbalah is a secret formula that belongs to humans, so how do you explain Lucifer using it to design the Abyss? Itou: That is why we have opposites. We can consider the possibility of humans being the ones who were influenced. We don’t know whether they saw the Abyss’s design after a near-death experience or were telepathically struck by some waves, but if pushed to say, the Kabbalah that’s transmitted through the world right now could be a representation of what they “saw”. Narisawa: It’s a reversal.
↑Digital Devil Story 2: Warrior of the Demon City Chapter 6 "To Space", The glitter of the stars and the unending void surrounded Nakajima. Below his feet, the endlessly spinning blue globe shone up at him. It took him a few moments to realize that he was floating in outer space. Nakajima unfolded his arms. The Sword of Hi-no-Kagutsuchi he held emitted a strand of light in the inkwell of space. Its blade twinkled and throbbed, responding to the tens of thousands of stars. It seemed that Izanami's robe had given him the power to survive and move in the vacuum of outer space. Suddenly, a sinister psychic wave hit Nakajima from behind. Swinging his sword, Nakajima slowly turned around, and found his field of vision dominated by an open, gaping red maw. An incomprehensibly enormous serpent; though the demon had only owned a temporary form on the surface of the earth, the powerful magnetic field that had forced him into space had given Set a complete body. Star Scorpion's 60-foot-long solar cells spread out like wings. Set's pale green scales glimmered as he coiled around the beautiful, practical satellite lying in medium Earth orbit. It looks like the insignificant humans had enough knowledge to summon me into this empty space. The voice echoed in Nakajima's mind. But the humans will soon know their folly in thinking that they have banished me. Pulling this machine down with me is an easy task. And that is not all. Have a look at all the demons that were summoned here! Several pale glowing things that looked like hoods aimlessly floated beside Nakajima. Soon, they will take on bodies and seek safe haven on Earth. The end of foolish humanity’s dominion over the earth will not be long. Nakajima, whether or not you intended, you have become the knight that blows the trumpet signaling the beginning of the apocalypse. The only path remaining for you is to cast aside your humanity and work for me. It would be a shame to kill you. Think on it. Ignoring Set's call, Nakajima focused all of his anger onto the sword he held directly in front of him. The environment that had given Set a body had also removed all restrictions on the divine power Nakajima had been granted. The Sword of Hi-no-Kagutsuchi, now an immensely long coil of light, drew a whip-like arc that emitted red light, and came down onto the body of the enormous serpent."

She could sense that this intruder possessed a power much different and far greater than the human tomb robbers that had foolishly wandered in before. If possible, she wanted to repel him without having to fight. Caught off guard, Loki stood still and narrowed his jet-black eyes, as if sizing up the power of this new arrival. Then, he started to walk forward calmly, an arrogant smirk on his face.
↑Digital Devil Story Transfer, Chapter 1, Page 28 "Hashiguchi abruptly noticed that the display looked like it was damp, as if it was covered in a layer of condensation. As he tried to wipe the screen off with his hand, he felt something stick to his fingertips, and jumped back in surprise. Something slimy was stuck to his fingers; as he shook them violently, a heavy, disgusting jelly-like substance fell to the floor with a splat. "Ugh! What the hell is this!?" Inoue turned around at Hashiguchi's cry and froze in shock. Beneath the skin of the pink protoplasm, a mesh of green-colored veins spread out as the whole blob pulsated like an organ torn out of its host. The repulsive lump of flesh made a squishing sound as it started to approach the two men. Backing up, Inoue stumbled over a chair and sprayed the contents of his stomach all over the floor. "Inoue! Get a hold of yourself!" Grabbing his coworker's arm to keep him standing, Hashiguchi started to run toward the door. As he turned, the gelatinous blob lashed out; tentacles covered in a viscous sticky fluid like red jam grabbed onto the legs of both men in an instant. "Shit!" Hashiguchi cursed as he grabbed files and the phone off his desk--any object within reach--and began throwing them at his attacker. When it showed no fear, he grabbed a chair, lifted it over his head, and brought it crashing down on top of the thing. However, the skin of the gelatinous blob simply pulled the steel chair into its body, where it was quickly dissolved right before Hashiguchi's eyes."

For a moment they looked like they were beginning to melt, and then they changed into giant, jiggling, pink-colored blobs of protoplasm. From their tips, multiple tentacles lashed out and wrapped around Yumiko's limbs. "No, stop!" The tentacles gripping the crying Yumiko's limbs pulled her up into the air, toward the body of the blob. A new pink tentacle sprouted and wrapped around Yumiko's body, and the liquid leaking from its membrane melted her clothes, latched onto her now-exposed skin and started writhing along her slender body."
↑Digital Devil Story Chatper 2, Sword of Flame, Page 53 "At that time, Loki swiftly entered Shirasagi Mound, and was standing before the passageway that Nakajima had passed through earlier. "Just you wait, Nakajima. Soon, I will defile your precious woman before your very eyes before devouring you whole." With a twisted smile on his face, Loki transformed himself into an amorphous blob and oozed into the tunnel. Loki descended the passageway that took Nakajima hours to traverse in mere minutes. Soon the blob of flesh made a squishing sound as it dropped to the stone floor of the plaza before the burial pathway. At that instant, its outer membrane hissed and gave off smoke as it started to melt. "Damn you!" Loki quickly transformed back into his bronze body, and kneeling on the ground, let loose a terrible howl. Most likely, he could not stand the chemical reaction that took place when his protoplasmic body came into contact with the mercuric sulfide. Even now, the one gelatinous place of his body between his eyes throbbed and pulsated. Gritting his teeth and standing, Loki stared solemnly at the crimson burial road."
↑Digital Devil Story Possession, Chapter 2, Pages 37 "Leaving his handsome face intact, Loki started to change into a cylindrical lump of flesh that sprouted countless small tentacles. The pink protoplasm started to glow and the movement of the tentacle fondling Yumiko's body became faster and rougher. Yumiko lost all will to resist, and her head fell to the side limply as she passed out. Loki started to pull her doll-like body into his own; he failed to notice that Ohara was glaring furiously at Yumiko even as she was enveloped within the protoplasm. Many women could not resist the allure of demons. Even if they despised them normally, they’d fall madly in love with them if they had sex with them even once. For Ohara, who had devoted herself body and soul to Loki, watching him have sex with one of her students in front of her eyes was an unbearable humiliation. Once Yumiko's slender white legs had sunk into the protoplasm and she was inside Loki up to her chest, Ohara went mad with jealousy, grabbed Yumiko’s head, and started to twist it.

Sword and all, Nakajima was thrown aside, but Kerberos leaped into the air and caught him. Right then, Nakajima got the sense that he heard Yumiko's voice from far away. Looking around in confusion, the image of Yumiko, bound to a cross and writhing in agony, appeared in his mind. Most likely, Set had sent him the picture of her current state as the core of his enormous protoplasmic temporary body. Nakjima noticed that one of the eyes in her lovely, terrified face was dripping blood."
↑Digital Devil Story 2: Warrior of the Demon City Chapter 6, "To Space" "However, he could not stop fighting. As minor demons from Set's world continued wriggling while trying to enter the Assiah world, an unmistakably familiar voice echoed in Nakajima's mind. Nakajima! I'm here! Aim for here! Yumiko! Is that you!? The instant Nakajima heard the voice, the Sword of Hi-no-Kagutsuchi regained a shine like a nova as it tore through the air. Stab your sword in the direction of my voice! Nakajima quickly noticed a pale, white, phosphorescent glow on a part of the enormous serpent's scale-encased body. Yes, I'm inside the demon! If we attack from inside him and outside him at the same time, we might be able to defeat Set... Led by Yumiko's voice, Nakajima stabbed his blade toward the phosphorescent glow. But an instant before the tip reached it, the tail of the giant snake forcefully knocked the blade aside and sent Nakajima flying far back. Flipping over and regaining his composure, robe fluttering behind him, Nakajima saw the rolling form of Set uncoiling, as if swimming through the vacuum. Foolish girl! To think you would let me know that you still live! Now I no longer have to depend on this irritating machine!

Covered in jet-black scales, the great black serpent Typhon stared at Nakajima with its golden eyes, Isma riding on its back, as it slowly rose into the air, towering like an enormous tree. With its head nearly extended to the full height of the tower of flesh, the huge serpent shuddered and assaulted Nakajima. The lower half of Isma's body had been fused into Typhon's; perhaps it was another sort of fusion the demon could do in addition to its innate ability to absorb the earth and the air into its own body."
↑Digital Devil Story 2: Warrior of the Demon City Chapter 6 "Quickening" "Matoba was taking a nap on the sofabed in the study next to his office. The heavy black bags under his eyes betrayed his exhaustion from his nonstop efforts to bring his party together and block the National Secrets Protection Act from being passed. Taking advantage of the fact that the world stage was becoming a war of information, the restrictions in the act clearly indicated that the Liberal Party was veering further and further to the right. As the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, that was hard for Matoba to allow. A quiet breeze blew into the room through the air conditioner that Matoba had left on. Not even disturbing the sound of that breeze, the snake slipped into the room through the slit under the door. It raised its head, fixating on its prey. Its small red eyes looked over the snoring, sleeping form of Matoba. Wiggling its body rapidly, the white snake slithered across the floor, effortlessly climbed up the sofabed and dove into the V-neck of Matoba's exposed undershirt, clearly by his unfastened tie. Without any hesitation, the pale serpent bit into the exaggeratedly expanding and contracting fat stomach before it. Like a sharp drill, the slender body of the snake tunneled into Matoba's gut. As if he felt no pain whatsoever, Matoba slept on peacefully. A minute or so later, Matoba suddenly twisted up from the sofabed as if a wave of high-voltage electricity was running through him. His body started to spasm wildly. However, it appeared that the Apep had gained full control of his nervous system; he soon started snoring again and fell into a deep sleep. Strangely enough, the wound on his stomach had sealed, as if cured by some sort of magic. Only moments later, the light sound of a Cedric driving away could be heard from the front of Matoba's manor.

Opening his arms wide, the youth took a deep breath of the humid air, pursed his lips forcefully, turned around, and sat down. For a while, he stared at the form of the grotesque woman chasing him, then shook his head sadly and closed his eyes. The youth started to meditate. When the woman had gotten within reach of a stone's throw, his body seemed to float slightly in midair for a moment, and then there was a huge undulation in the atmosphere. As if a huge invisible power had been released, the earth shook, and the fissure that appeared directly beneath the youth spread to the surrounding moutains, and countless rocks started to fall on the path. As the woman stopped, a giant boulder rolled in front of the path in front of her eyes, sealing it off. "Izanagi! I will come to you! Even if it takes hundreds or thousands of years!" The sound of the woman's bitter cries rose from beyond the towering pile of earth. "Forgive me, Izanami..." Plugging his ears with his hands, the youth staggered into the wetlands, the tall reeds rising even above his height."

The noisy voices of the demons amplified like they were advancing down on Nakajima."
↑Digital Devil Story 2: Warrior of the Demon City Chapter 4 "Quickening" "I don't think so. "The last demon to appear called himself Set, correct?" "Yes, that's right." "While it's too dangerous to try and conjecture the state of affairs in the demon world based on our own knowledge of this one, my theory is that the demon world is like a colloidal conglomeration of countless mini-universes, each centered around a powerful demon. Most likely, with Loki's death, the mini-universe in contact with Japan or Tokyo vanished, and Set's mini-universe entered to take its place. Demon summoning is just opening a contact point between the two worlds at the same time." "So what would happen if two contact points were opened at the same time?" "The demon would decide where it wanted to appear. However, there are some examples in medieval records of demon summonings that report that when the difference in strength of the two magnetic fields was great enough, the demon would be pulled to the stronger field, regardless of which it wanted to go to..."
↑Digital Devil Story 2: Warrior of the Demon City Chapter 5, "He Who Calls" "Isma had realized that the bizarre life form that had torn itself out of Ohara's belly was a temporary body for Set, who had been planning to take form by possessing Loki's child. According to his theory, summoning a demon via a computer would require creating a magnetic field with which to summon the demon and the processing of the demon's data to be materialized, both of which would have to be done at virtually the same time. If the magnetic field was weak, the point of connection between the demon's world and the Assiah world would narrow, constraining the amount of data that could be processed. On the other hand, no matter how powerful the magnetic field was, unless the digital data could be processed quickly and concisely, the demon would never be able to take form. It was quite possible that even a supercomputer would not be able to handle the massive amount of data that would be needed to materialize a high-ranking demon. Despite that fact, the high-ranking demon Set was able to to take form in the Assiah world, even if it was only in a makeshift body. Something must have added a great deal of power in setting up the necessary magnetic field for a summoning; this in turn would ease the restraints on the data processing. Isma was convinced that something was Yumiko. Most likely, the high concentration of biological Magnetite within her body had been a major player in creating the magnetic field for the summoning. The divine constitution that she had inherited from Izanami was nothing but a giant retention of that highly concentrated Magnetite. While meager in comparison to that of Yumiko, ordinary humans also retained some biological Magnetite. If enough of it was collected, it might be able to create a permanent overlap of the Atziluth and Assiah worlds entirely. Therefore, having already formed a contract with Set, Isma borrowed his power to summon many people and attempt to create a tower of human flesh. And everything was proceeding just according to plan. Even know the heavens split with a terrible thundering, and Set's most powerful servant, the great serpent Typhon, reared its head into the air as if slithering from behind a black curtain, knocking over the Soga Forest's trees as it went. "Typhon, welcome. Breathe deeply and take in the air of the Assiah world." Isma looked kindly at the enormous snake. "Take a look, your first victim awaits in the shadow of that tree." As Isma pointed to the copse where Officer Nimura was, Typhon vanished beyond the trees. Meanwhile, Set had transformed into a gigantic, vile pillar of flesh, his sinister, red glowing eyes at its peak darting all around the area. Typhon's presence is proof that the demon world Set rules is starting to meld with the Assiah world. Now all that remains is to gather more biological Magnetite and solidify the connection... Isma's eyes shimmered even brighter with madness."
↑Digital Devil Story Possession, Chapter 2, Pages 36-37 "Powerless, Nakajima stared at Loki and Ohara. I should have considered the possibility that this could happen. I'd better find a weakness, and soon! Nakajima frantically pointed the sensor connected to his computer at the nearly-materialized Loki. Calling up the ISG host computer, he sent the data the sensor had gathered about the demon to Craft. Meanwhile, Loki extended his hand toward Yumiko, rigid with terror. His bronze, naked body was beautifully symmetrical, almost like the Greek Apollo, and his muscular chest was covered in black scales. His black eyes, from which no one could possibly fathom any emotion, paralyzed her. "Come over here." Pointing his talon at Yumiko, Loki commanded her in a low, cold voice. Yumiko looked to Nakajima for help, but he merely glanced at her and continued talking with the AI. Nakajima knew he wouldn't have a chance if he tried to fight Loki directly, but Loki probably couldn’t risk doing anything to him so long as Nakajima had control of the computer environment. Nakajima knew that he had to find some sort of weakness to Loki while he still had the chance. He had a hunch that Loki would not be able to leave the magnetic field being generated by the computer. However, just as Yumiko tried to stagger away and flee, a strange sound came from Loki's arms. A new pink tentacle sprouted and wrapped around Yumiko's body, and the liquid leaking from its membrane melted her clothes, latched onto her now-exposed skin and started writhing along her slender body. >CRAFT, HURRY! Covering his ears so he wouldn't have to hear Yumiko's screams, Nakajima frantically kept hitting the keys. Finally the data transfer LED lit up, and Craft sent a response. ACCORDING TO THE DATA YOU SENT, THE JELLY SUBSTANCE IS 58% WATER AND 17% ECTOPLASM. THE REMAINING MATTER IS NOT NATIVE TO THE PLANET AND CANNOT BE ANALYZED. >HAS THERE EVER BEEN A CASE OF SIMILAR MATTER BEING DISCOVERED BEFORE? YES. THIS CENTURY, SIMILAR MATTER WAS DISCOVERED IN A MAYAN TEMPLE AND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. > WHAT IS ITS WEAK POINT? I CANNOT MAKE A HYPOTHESIS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT DATA. HOWEVER, THE MATTER DISCOVERED UNDER A RELIEF IN THE MAYAN TEMPLE WAS REPORTED TO HAVE EVAPORATED WHEN IT CAME IN CONTACT WITH MERCURIC SULFIDE-BASED PAINT. > MERCURIC SULFIDE? YOU MEAN A MIXTURE OF MERCURY AND SULFUR. BUT I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO FIND SOMETHING LIKE THAT. TELL ME HOW TO DEAL WITH HIM NOW! UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT DATA TO PROVIDE AN ANSWER."
↑Digital Devil Story Sword of Flame, Chapter 1, Pages 50-51 "A viscous drop of water fell onto Nakajima's cheek. Listening closely, he could hear the steady sound of water coming from high above. Over the aeons, the lime deposits in this trickle had accumulated here and there along the path to form giant stalagmites. Nakajima touched the rising cliff to feel it. The surface of the cold stone was wet with condensation. When he scratched it, the rock crumbled away easily, revealing a new layer of red stone below. Idly recalling that the ancient red paint used in ancient Japanese tombs was mercuric-sulfide based, Nakajima suddenly remembered Craft's words. When explorers had discovered material that was apparently part of a demon's body in a Mayan temple, it evaporated when it came into contact with their mercuric-sulfide based paint. In other words, this tomb was designed specifically to keep demons out. His courage buoyed by this realization, Nakajima picked up Yumiko's body and walked toward the depths of the red valley. However, he’d never had that much in the way of stamina in the first place. In less than ten minutes, his legs were exhausted. He would have liked Kerberos' help, but he didn't want to put any more stress on the already terribly-injured demon. Besides, this path with walls literally painted with demon repellent would hardly be the most appropriate place for Kerberos.
↑Digital Devil Story Sword of Flame, Chapter 1, Page 51 "Yomotsu-Shikome took a step forward. As Nakajima met her gaze, he carefully laid Yumiko down, wiped the cold sweat on his hands onto his slacks, and picked up his handheld computer. "Kerberos, please come here." Before the white haze that emerged from the liquid crystal display could even take on a rough outline of its shape, it vanished with a weak bark. Apparently, the pathway’s crimson paint really did seal off the power of the demon beast.

He could not stand the chemical reaction that took place when his protoplasmic body came into contact with the mercuric sulfide. Explanations
The following is an explanation of the various status effects of Megami Tensei
Prevents any action in battle. Usually caused by Ice skills and generally only lasts for one turn. In later games, attacking a frozen enemy is guaranteed to cause a critical hit.
Prevents any action in battle. Usually caused by Electricity skills and generally only lasts for one turn. In later games, attacking a shocked enemy is guaranteed to cause a critical hit.
Prevents the target from moving. This persists even on the field and is treated as similar to being dead. In most games, if the protagonist is petrified, it triggers a game over. In some games, Force spells will shatter a petrified opponent.
