Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Weapon Mastery (Sword Mastery; Aeon is the wielder of a large sword that he uses deftly in combat[39]), Cosmic Intelligence & Cosmic Awareness (Aeon wanders time eternally and observing all that occurs, being able to detect whenever the fabric of time is disturbed[40]. Aeon's able to tell exactly when one lands into the time rift[41], and that a being from 10,000 years in the future[42], is trying[43]. to destroy[44]. the very fabric[45]. of time[46]), Precognition (Perfect Precognition; Aeon is able to tell all moments that are meant to happen, even in rifts in time[47]), Immortality (Ageless; Aeon wanders time eternally[48]), Singular Existence (Heavily implied there is only one Aeon, to having a clone match will have Aeon state one is "mimicking his form"[49]), Reality Separation (Chronolock; Aeon is a being that exists outside of time, having no era to return too, merely wandering time eternally and observing all that occurs[50]), Personal Nonexistence (Aeon is described as a man who seems not to exist at all[51]), Acausality (Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[52]. With their souls being completely free from time[53]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something is their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however, dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[54]), Energy Absorption (Aeon can get hearts out of objects and enemies, where hearts are a measure of one's stored energy, thus one is absorbing energy when gaining hearts[55]), Time Travel (Noted that as a guardian of time, Aeon has journeyed through the ages[56]. Death calls Aeon a traveler of time[57]. Noted by Alucard that Aeon "wanders through time"[58]), Shapeshifting for his weapon (His weapon is able to shift and transform to be double-bladed[59], along with increasing its range to cover a large portion of the battlefield[60]), Afterimage Creation (Aeon can move so fast he creates afterimages from the light projections being unable to keep up with him[61]), Energy Projection (Can shoot an energy laser out of his weapon[62]), Time Stop (Aeon can call upon time to fully stop his enemies in time, and can do this when his clock has a gold aura, working on those who naturally resist time stop[63], and affecting beings who souls are completely free from time[64]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[65], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[66]), Time Manipulation (Shown in the intro to the game to be speeding up the flow of time[67]), Forcefield Manipulation (With Nullifying Barrier, Aeon conjures a barrier from his clock that nullifies attacks from all directions).

Resistance to Time Stop (Time Watchers are immune to being stopped in time[68]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[69], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[70]), Fate Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Aeon can take multiple hits from Death and his scythe, who is noted to govern the fate of death[71], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[72], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[73]. Death decides who lives and who dies[74])
Resistance to Dracula's Castle's Abilities (Aeon can fight in the throne room of Dracula's castle, making him unaffected to the adverse effects of the castle[75])

The Castle Abilities Include:

Reality Warping (The Castle does not work on standard logic, where changing rooms can have one view a completely different background[76], such as room with a blue sky that is reflecting up and downwards and having the clouds rotate at a fast speed[77]), Transmutation (Beings that come near are subject to the castle's influence, such as a local barnyard owl which was mutated just from flying near it[78]), Possession (The castle possesses objects with its magic, such as a ouija table[79]), Sealing (Dracula's magic captured Aguni, a primitive god of fire[80]. The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[81]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not affect it until the seal is gone[82]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[83], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[84]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[85]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[86]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[87]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[88]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[89]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[90]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[91]. Michelle even being at the entrance to the castle had her body telling her to not go in and her leg muscles being petrified like stone[92]), Curse Manipulation (The Curse status that spirits inflict[93] comes from them absorbing the magic power around the castle. The Castle cursed a human to turn into a lizard man[94]), Life Manipulation (The castle can bring inanimate statues to life to attack[95]. Can cause the glass murals to come to life and attack[96]), Soul Manipulation (Those that die in the castle become one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle for eternity[97]), Abstract Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (The castle can create a core of evil made from hatred, envy, anger and other dark emotions[98]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[99], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[100] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[101], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[102], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[103], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[104], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[105]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[106]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[107], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[108]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[109]), Law Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[110], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[111]), Power Modification (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[112], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[113]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[114])

Should have similar abilities to Saint Germain, which would include: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Cosmic Awareness (Saint Germain is a time watcher, knowing all about time and all of its events[115]), Breaking the Fourth Wall (Saint Germain directly speaks with the player at the end[116]), Flight (Able to casually levitate off the ground[117]), Intangibility (Temporal Intangibility; Can pull a weapon from a time axis that cannot be seen[118]), Energy Absorption (Saint Germain can get hearts out of objects and enemies, where hearts are a measure of one's stored energy, thus one is absorbing energy when gaining hearts[119]), Time Travel (Saint Germain is one who travels through time[120]), Teleportation (Teleported away after sending his warning to Hector, teleported to Hector after he spoke with Zead[121]. Easily teleported around Death's attacks[122]. Can teleport around during his boss fight[123]), Glyph Creation (Makes a gigantic glyph that shoots out fire[124]), Healing (Through rewinding time, he can heal himself[125]), Power Nullification (Saint Germain can break Hector's time stop entirely[126]), Time Stop (Can stop Hector in time[127]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[128], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[129]), Time Manipulation (Can advance time causing objects to grow and decay quickly[130]. Can rewind time to heal himself[131]), Portal Manipulation (After finishing his speech to the player, he made a portal to leave the era of time he was in[132]), Poison Manipulation (Can inflict poison with his attacks, which he can speed up the course of time to speed up the poison[133]), Plant Manipulation (His advancement of time causes plants to grow and decay[134])

Equipment

  • Clock-blade: Aeon's main weapon of choice, it has a special effect where the clock's glow will gradually change as the battle goes on. With no glow, he can make vertical slashes with huge range, with blue glow, he can fire a massive laser, with green glow, the clock's hands will extend outward and sweep across the field like an actual clock, and once the clock reaches the maximum charge and glows gold, he can stop time.

Notable Techniques

Fighting Style

Aeon’s large stopwatch transforms its two hands into blades that he uses for both a powerful charging slash combo and a swift stabbing combo. With his clock-blade and powerful magical abilities, Aeon proves to be a formidable opponent, capable of matching even the skills of warriors like Simon Belmont, Trevor Belmont, Shanoa, Death, and even Dracula himself.

Neutral Combo

Directional Combo

Jumping Attack

Nullifying Barrier

Aeon conjures a barrier from his clock that nullifies attacks from all directions. When successfully blocking an attack, Aeon's clock changes color, and its hands briefly point downward while it emits a glow. If Aeon completes a block without moving, he bows to his opponent, becoming invincible until the bow ends, after which he resumes his stance.

Nick of Time

Aeon performs a short slide toward his opponent and rises into a slash if he makes contact. If the opponent attempts to dodge, Aeon can home in like a magnet for another strike. This move also allows him to pass through long-range sub-weapons and many opponent projectiles, which can trigger a color change on his clock if successful.

Evading Move

Aeon performs an invincible backdash, leaving an afterimage and sometimes taunting his opponent.

Hour of Judgment

A unique effect occurs based on Aeon’s clock color, which frequently changes with blocks, health depletion, or over time.

Extension (Normal)

With no clock color active, Aeon extends his blade for a basic attack.

Suffer the March of Time (Time Beam)

When his clock glows blue, Aeon can unleash a powerful, unblockable blue beam by holding B, with a maximum combo hit of 45. In his alternate costume, the beam is red and resembles the Time Reaper’s. Aeon can also perform this attack midair, sitting cross-legged with his weapon on his lap.

The Clock Strikes Thrice (Three Clock Slices)

When the clock glows green, Aeon throws it into the air, extending the clock hands to cover a wide range with three slashes. This attack has exceptional range and is difficult to evade. Aeon can also perform it midair in a one-handed handstand on the bottom of his weapon.

Behold Absolute Power (Extended Time Freeze)

When the clock glows yellow, Aeon stabs the ground to freeze time, with everything turning color-inverted. In the air, he jumps with legs together, shouts "It's Time!", and performs a high stab before landing in a front flip.

Blades of Evil's Bane

Aeon leaps into the air for a downward stab with the clock hands aligned, the minute hand extending farther than the hour hand. Upon contact, the hands separate in opposite directions for significant damage.

Rift Betwixt Twin Blades

Aeon throws his opponent up and slashes them with twin blades like scissors. This is a throw move and cannot be blocked.

Hyper Attack: Requiem of the 13th Hour

Aeon’s Hyper requires over three seconds to initiate, leaving him briefly stationary with a clock appearing under his opponent, rendering them vulnerable. A strategic setup involves using Hour of Judgment and Behold Absolute Power to stop time, allowing Aeon to cast his Hyper uninterrupted. Once activated, Aeon snaps his fingers, shattering his opponent’s clock and freezing them indefinitely while he taunts or advises them on the insignificance of their desires compared to time. He then summons twelve clock-hand-like blades and one large minute-hand blade, saying "Time Marches On" as he releases time. The twelve smaller blades strike his opponent, followed by the final, larger blade before they hit the ground.

Other

Standard Tactics: Aeon will use attacks with his clock-blade along with the manipulation of time.

Weaknesses: Like Saint Germain, Aeon seems to be that he can only fight in areas outside of time[135].

Note

Trivia

  • The word "aeon" originates as the Latin translation of the koine Greek word ὁ αἰών (aion). It is sometimes spelt as "eon" and means "age", "forever" or "for eternity". It could also come from the Japanese word eien (永遠), meaning "eternity".
  • The Eon spelling is further supported by his clock like weapon and the fact he is seen holding a pocket watch.
  • He has a habit of using time related phrases such as "It's time!" and "Your hour is up!".
  • Dio Brando, from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, utters the phrase: "Soshite toki wa ugoki dasu," when he stops time, which translates to: "Thus, time will move once more." Aeon can be heard saying this in the trailer and in his special attack. The English localization of the game has him say: "And... time marches on." instead.
  • Aeon's theme in Judgment is "Darkness of Fear -arranged-", which as the title shows, it is an arrangement of "Darkness of Fear", the main theme of Judgment. Additionally, it becomes his battle theme when he is fought the second time in the Clock Tower arena, not the arranged version.
  • Aeon occasionally mutters, "Oh, well done." when he lost his defenses. Aeon may be saying this to the player, breaking the fourth wall.
  • Aeon has the longest Hyper Attack title.
  • Aeon's pocket watch has 13 hours on its face. The clock like weapon he uses also has 13 hours in its face. This is similar to the central clock room in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which strikes 13 before the secret passage opens.
  • Aeon belongs to the same group Saint Germain is a part of, as confirmed by Koji Igarashi. This is alluded to on Judgment through Aeon's alternate costume, which is similar to Saint Germain's[140].
  • His statement "In this place, I too am able to fight" gives him a similar weakness to Saint Germain where he cannot interact with reality but only observe it.
    • It could also refer to the fact that, as a guardian of time, he is not allowed to leave a mark on time, which would explain why he asked for aide from the other characters in the rift, and why he is otherwise unmentioned in any other Castlevania game since Judgment.
      • This is further supported by the fact that Order of Ecclesia can be connected to Judgment for extra content, and Shanoa is a character present in both. She is returned to her own time after the events of Judgment, but Aeon is never mentioned, despite Shanoa being a potential combatant of the Time Reaper, both before finding Albus and after being sent to find him by Barlowe.
  • True to his time related name his attacks consist of using his weapon in many different ways (as a gun, spear, etc.) and using time based magic attacks, he can also clone his weapon for several attacks, giving it the appearance of the hands of a clock.

  73. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
    “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
    Kill the distance-----
    Kill the sound-----
    Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
    “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."
