"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

I am the blade to banish all evil, and I've come to see you annihilated. The time of your destruction is at hand; die, Demon Lord Dracula!
~ Shanoa to Dracula

Background

Shanoa (シャノア) is the protagonist of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. She is a member of the Order of Ecclesia, a group dedicated to defeating Dracula in the absence of the Belmont clan. Shanoa possesses the unique ability to absorb Glyphs, which grant her access to magical weapons and elemental spells. Although she is often depicted wielding an ethereal crimson rapier, she can use any weapon provided by the Glyphs she acquires.

Shanoa can equip up to three Glyphs at once, functioning similarly to Soma Cruz's soul system. By combining these Glyphs, she can unleash powerful combos, either through magic or with large-scale weapons like a Holy Claymore or a flurry of daggers. Her weapons include scythes, axes, daggers, lances, hammers, and swords, while her spells summon elements such as fierce winds, lightning orbs, stone fists, fireballs, ice shards, or bursts of light and darkness. Additionally, her Glyphs allow her to traverse areas using magnetic forces or transform into creatures such as a cat-woman or a winged werebat.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Shanoa’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Shanoa was chosen as a vessel for Dominus by Barlowe. However, before the ritual could be performed, she was attacked by her adoptive brother and fellow Ecclesia member, Albus. Since that time, she has lost her emotions and memories. Upon awakening, Shanoa learned Barlowe's version of events and received the order to retrieve both him and Dominus from Albus.

Shanoa sets out towards Wygol Village after her first encounter with Albus in an abandoned monastery, traveling through various dungeons in pursuit of him and to rescue the villagers he had trapped. Along the way, she helps them by completing side quests. The trapped villagers mention a "man" who imprisoned them with Torpor Glyphs. On several occasions, Shanoa encounters Albus carrying pieces of the Dominus Glyphs. It is revealed that he was behind the villagers' capture, offering Shanoa the two parts of Dominus as "gifts." Without hesitation, she absorbs them, believing it is part of her mission assigned by Barlowe.

At Oblivion Ridge, Albus refuses to give Shanoa the third Dominus Glyph. He instead reveals the true nature of the glyphs: that Dominus is a copy of Dracula's power, and using it can have disastrous effects on one's soul. Feeling betrayed, Shanoa returns to Barlowe and explains the situation. She is then tasked with eliminating the corrupted Albus at the Mystery Manor.

The events that follow at the manor are crucial in determining the game's ending. Depending on whether Shanoa successfully rescues all thirteen villagers or fails to save at least one, the ending will differ. There are two possible routes to the conclusion, which are determined after the fight between Shanoa and Albus.

Bad Ending
After the battle, Shanoa absorbs the final part of Dominus and returns to Barlowe in Ecclesia, believing her mission is complete. The only remaining task is to perform the spell beside the coffin to "save the world." Unbeknownst to her, it was all a lie and a manipulation by Barlowe. Instead of succeeding, Shanoa collapses, losing consciousness, and her efforts are presumably used to resurrect Dracula for Barlowe. The screen fades to black, showing the villagers who were not rescued, followed by the Game Over screen.

Good Ending
After the battle, Shanoa absorbs the final part of Dominus. During this process, she begins hearing conversations between Barlowe and Albus. It is revealed that Albus's plan to steal the Dominus was to protect Shanoa from the dangers of using the glyph. This scene hints at Shanoa slowly recovering her memories, as she refers to Albus as her "brother." The voice she hears belongs to Albus's soul, which had merged with the last part of Dominus. His final advice is to avoid casting the union of Dominus at all costs. Shanoa then heads back to Ecclesia to confront Barlowe.

This time, Shanoa refuses to follow Barlowe's orders, and he reveals his true nature as a madman bent on Dracula's revival. Barlowe explains that the "vessel" in his room was actually a seal to confine Dracula, and he had been manipulating Shanoa all along to break the seal and resurrect the dark lord. A fight ensues, resulting in Barlowe's defeat. Despite Shanoa's objections, he offers his life to the seal, causing Dracula and his castle to rise again.

With her memories restored, Shanoa regains her emotions and resolves to banish Dracula alone, as she is the only one capable of doing so. She confronts Dracula in his throne room. Initially, it seems her glyphs cannot defeat him, and he begins preparing a powerful spell to destroy her. However, if the union of the Dominus Glyphs is used, the spell is countered, and Dracula is killed by his own power. Shanoa falls dead, but Albus's soul appears before her one final time, offering his sacrifice for hers. His last request is for Shanoa to smile, and she sheds warm, happy tears for her brother as her memories and emotions fully return. She escapes the crumbling castle as the sun rises.

It is later revealed that all records of Ecclesia were erased, leaving no trace of Shanoa's battle with Dracula. A Grimoire-created facsimile of Shanoa in Grimoire of Souls suggests that the world's leaders erased the history to cover up their manipulation by Barlowe.

Personality

  • Serious and Stoic: Shanoa is a serious and introverted individual, often coming across as emotionless due to her difficulty expressing her feelings. Her amnesia, which causes her to forget her past and the people she once knew, plays a significant role in shaping her cold exterior. While her lack of memories makes it difficult for her to connect with her emotions, her true personality remains somewhat of a mystery.
  • Tenacity and Drive: Despite the emotional barriers caused by her amnesia, Shanoa is driven by an intense desire to uncover the truth of her past and avenge the loss of her friend Albus. Her determination is unwavering, and she shows relentless focus in her mission to defeat Dracula and protect those she cares about, demonstrating an unyielding resolve.
  • Artistic Streak: Beneath her serious demeanor, Shanoa possesses a creative side. During her visits to Wygol Village, she expresses an interest in photography, music, fashion, and illustration. She uses her Sketch Book to explore her artistic abilities, finding solace and purpose in her creativity as she seeks to regain some semblance of fulfillment beyond her quest for vengeance.

Golem with his ultimate can shoot out a mouth blast that vaporizes everything it touches as far as the eye can see getting these results[17]. Can harm and fight against enemies stronger than characters who can take hits from neutron bomb[18], that have a yield range of 1-10 kilotons of TNT), Far Higher with Sheer Will (Simon claims that the Belmonts and Morrises did not defeat Dracula because of the Vampire Killer, with the reason behind heroes' capacity to fight against evil lying not in their physical strength but the noble desire to drive away evil and usher in all that is good, the desire to protect the world for all of humanity, with the courage to fight to protect others being the true essence of a hero and a Belmont's strength, with this even applying for other heroes such as Shanoa, Maria, Charlotte, and even Arikado[19]. Death decides who lives and who dies[132])
Resistance to Dracula's Castle (Shanoa can enter and fight within Dracula's Castle without any adverse effects[133])

The Castle Abilities Include:

Reality Warping (The Castle does not work on standard logic, where changing rooms can have one view a completely different background[134], such as room with a blue sky that is reflecting up and downwards and having the cloud srotate at a fast speed[135]), Transmutation (Beings that come near are subject to the castle's influence, such as a local barnyard owl which was mutated just from flying near it[136]), Possession (The castle possesses objects with its magic, such as a ouija table[137]), Sealing (Dracula's magic captured Aguni, a primitive god of fire[138]. The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[139]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not affect it until the seal is gone[140]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[141], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[142]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[143]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[144]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[145]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[146]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[147]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[148]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[149]. Michelle even being at the entrance to the castle had her body telling her to not go in and her leg muscles being petrified like stone[150]), Curse Manipulation (The Curse status that spirits inflict[151] comes from them absorbing the magic power around the castle. The Castle cursed a human to turn into a lizard man[152]), Life Manipulation (The castle can bring inanimate statues to life to attack[153]. Can cause the glass murals to come to life and attack[154]), Soul Manipulation (Those that die in the castle become one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle for eternity[155]), Abstract Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (The castle can create a core of evil made from hatred, envy, anger and other dark emotions[156]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[157], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[158] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[159], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[160], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[161], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[162], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[163]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[164]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[165], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[166]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[167]), Law Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[168], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[169]), Power Modification (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[170], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[171]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[172])
With the Dominus Agony, Shanoa shrouds herself in Dracula's magic[173], which would give her the abilities of Dracula's magic and that of the Castle, as the castle is directly steered by Dracula's power[174], this gives her:
As Mathias absorbed Walter's soul to become Dracula[175], he has:

Escape Prevention (Upon entering the forest Leon, Rinaldo noted that Walter made it so Leon could not leave[176]), Darkness Manipulation (Due to the Ebony Stone[177], his demonic power allows him to make it eternally night in the forest under his control[178]), Energy Absorption (Walter can get hearts out of objects and enemies, where hearts are a measure of one's stored energy, thus one is absorbing energy when gaining hearts[179]), Domination (Walter has demons under his control[180]), Sealing (Walter sealed away the Forgotten One due to an enormous uncontrollable power it had[181]), Blessed (Noted that Walter is beloved by the eternal night[182]), Teleportation (Teleported Sara to his side[183]), Electricity Manipulation (Walter uses electricity to appear before Leon[184]), Telekinesis (Telekinetically returned Sara to Leon[185]), Sleep Manipulation (Walter can put one to sleep[186]), Invulnerability (Metaphysical Invulnerability) & Forcefield Manipulation (Passive; Walter is completely immune to attacks from Leon[187]), Light Manipulation & Teleportation (Can create pillars of light that he teleports around[188]), Energy Projection (Can shoot out energy projectiles[189]), Homing Attack (Walter can shoot out energy projectiles that home in on the target[190]), Explosion Manipulation (Can shoot out orbs that explode on impact[191]. With Demonic Megiddo, can release a massive blast of energy that explodes outwards[192]), Transformation (Transformative Arsenal; When using Demonic Megiddo, Water transforms into his stronger demon form[193]), Fire Manipulation (Conjures multiple pillars of fire underneath the target[194])

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Noted that Dracula's strength exceeds even that of a werewolf[195]), Human Achievements (When disguising himself as Malus, he could masterfully play the violin[196]), Weapon Mastery (Bow & Arrow Mastery; Dracula in his Malus form wields a bow and arrow that he can shoot deftly[197]), Animal Taming (Dracula can tame bicorns[198]), Intimidation (Put fear into Isaac who felt he spoke out of line from just a glance[199]. Dracula is noted to be the most terrifying creature in existence[200]), Large Size in some of his true forms (Supersized; Appeared this large when unleashing his true form against Reinhardt Schneider/Carrie Fernandez[201]), Aura (Dracula merely pushing out his aura was enough to make Richter and Maria flinch[202]. Dracula's evil aura is far greater then the fake Dracula he sent to fight Reinhardt and Carrie[203]. Dark Lord Soma has a thick darkness and suffocating evil due to having Dracula's aura[204]. Dracula has a natural aura of Darkness around him[205]), Immortality (Ageless; Mathias through absorbing Walter's soul denied God's decree of limited life and lives for eternity[206]. Life and Death Immunity; Death serves Dracula with unfailing loyalty[207], where Death is noted to govern the fate of death[208], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[209], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[210]. Death decides who lives and who dies[211]), Reincarnation (Non-Cycle, Memory Remembrance; Despite being[212] killed for good by[213] Julius Belmont, Dracula's soul reincarnated into Soma Cruz[214]), Regeneration (At least Low-Godly normally; Freely burned away his body to fly out with his soul to create a new form[215]. Can regenerate from just his blood[216]. Regenerated back a new body from just his head[217]. His Wraith Spawn while heavily weakened regenerated from his entire body being destroyed[218]. Mid-Godly with Regeneration Cycle; Dracula has a regeneration cycle that allows him to come back as long as chaos exist within humans[219], only being ended by sealing his castle within a solar eclipse[220]), Reliance (On Humanity's Evil; Dracula will keep coming back to life due to the evil minds of human beings[221]. It is noted that Dracula's resurrection is not fueled by his own magic but through the lust for power, jealousy of others, belief in evil, the human emotions that fuel his resurrection[222]), Supernatural Resilience (Can live as just a head, using his head to form an amalgamation of five demonic faces with an exposed brain[223]), Supernatural Luck (Dracula's mere eye grants one a boost of luck[224]), Extrasensory Perception (Dracula's eyeball can see invisible objects[225]. Dracula's eyeball can see something that has been cursed away from sight. Dracula could sense the connection between Annette and the Belmont family[226]. Can see the Bitterfly, a mutated insect, visible only to magicians[227]. Soma Cruz upon awakening to becoming Dracula could sense where Alucard was[228]), Transformation (Shapeshifting; Dracula can transform into different manners of beast and alike, during his fight with Simon Belmont he turned into a large white creature[229]. Appeared before Simon Belmont as a flock of bats[230]. Mathias can transform into a bat[231]. Can transform into a werewolf[232]. Dracula used what remained of his magical powers to transform his body into mist after Christopher defeated him[233]. Can turn into a beast that moves so fast it catches on fire[234]. Body Morphing; Can morph his body to sprouted wings, allowing him to fly with that, asides from his occassional levitation[235]. Through this end he can gather the magic needed to revive through negative human emotions[245]. Repeated Resurrection, Resurrection of the Deceased; Through absorbing human blood, even on his corpse, he can come back to life[246]. The battle between Desmond Belmont and Rohan Krause was enough to revive Dracula[247]. Dracula has also shown to be able to resurrect from merely a single drop of blood hitting his body[248]. Resurrection of Multiple Targets, Resurrection of the Deceased; Dracula revived dark gods with his powers[249]), Reality Warping (Passive; Merely through transforming Dracula warped the very background of his castle[250]. Brings down pillars of light that he uses to teleport around[254]. Causes a beam of light to appear that he can teleport around with[255]. Dracula's death causes the light beam to come across the entire castle and teleport it away[256]. He can use his light pillar teleportation technique as a means to trick his opponent by creating several, with him only appearing out of one[257]. Teleported to Shaft after sensing a connection Anette had with the Belmont family[258]), Duplication (Can create four giant heads of his to attack with[259]. Dracula's remains created a second spirit within Maxim that possessed him[271] leaving Maxim's body and possessing Dracula's remains[272] spawning way to Dracula's Wraith[273]. Noted by Richter to get stronger every reincarnation[279]), Statistics Boost (The more Dracula's hatred increases, the more the power of Chaos empowers him[280]), Statistics Reduction (It's noted that every 100 years[281] the forces of Good mysteriously become weak and the forces of Evil gain a foothold into the world[282]. One that wears Dracula's clothes will have their luck reduced[283], however it is noted by Simon that Dracula grows stronger ecah time he revives), Telekinesis (Was telekinetically lifting Simon's wife into the air with the affect breaking once he died[284]. Dracula's mere fang can increase one's defenses[310]. Dracula's presence greatly powers the creatures of the night, making them stronger as time goes on[311]. Noted that Dracula can grant humans immortality, with The Order attempting to resurrect Dracula in order to receive greater power and eternal life[312]. Devil Forging has one to giving it a shape and soul, giving it a shell and applying stable power to the shell so the mass of energy without conscious can be transformed into a living devil[364]), Blood Manipulation (Can spit out blood as an attack[365]. Can create spheres of blood from his attacks[366]. Causes an entire blood rain to fall, with over hundreds of droplets, where if even one hits, it will deal damage[367]), Soul Manipulation (Dracula can use soul steal, to steal one's soul, absorbing their entire existence within him[368]. Can disconnect his soul from his body[369]. God is unable to help the souls of those terminated by Dracula's hand[370]), Animal Manipulation (Can shoot bats out of his mouth[371]. Can shoot out three bats to attack[372]. Sends out bats to attack for him[373]), Mind Manipulation (Dracula put Soleil Belmont under his vampire spell[374]. The suppressed desires of Maxim Kischine caused another spirit to be created due to him holding the remains of Dracula[375]. Dracula's remains alone are enough to consume their mind, even being noted by Barlowe that dominus devours the mind[376]. Not even the sacred blood of the Belmont Clan was enough to keep Albus from subcumming to the effects of the Dominus[377]), Memory Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions[378]. Dominus was the source that took Shanoa's memories[379]. Dracula's magic showed Hector visions of his past with a form of his child self trying to convince him to become a devil and promising to be friends if he does so[380]), Empathic Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions, stripping Shanoa of all of her emotions to the point that she could not shed a tear for Albus despite everything he did for her[381]), Fear Manipulation (Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[382] an ordinary hero feel like a spineless coward[383]), Death Manipulation (Metaphysical; One attempting to use the Dominus will cost them their life, Shanoa using it nearly killed her only being saved by Albus taking her place and having his soul fade away[384]), Weather Manipulation & Electricity Manipulation (Caused dark clouds to appear and came from a bolt of lightning[385]. Electricity formed around him while he transformed into his adult state[392]. Easily pushed Cornell back with the electricity field around him[393]), Curse Manipulation (Dracula placed a curse on[394] Simon after Simon defeated him, one that could only be undone[395] by finding the five body parts of Dracula, resurrecting him and then defeating him[396], though if Simon takes too long he will die from the curse regardless of killing Dracula[397]. The Curse also weakened Simon to where he was starting off with a leather whip, which is a weaker form the whip takes for inexperienced users[398]. After being defeated by Trevor and his friends, Dracula left a demonic curse that enshrouded all of Europe in misery and torment[399], this curse keeps festering even if Dracula dies, where Hector needed to put all of his life-force and energy into dispelling the curse, greatly tiring him to the point that he was ready to die in the collapse of the Castle if Julia did not come rescue him[400]. Along with this, even with the curse being removed, the curse was far too deep within people, making its mark hard to leave them, with some characters having it where only death could erase the curse[401]), Disease Manipulation (The demonic curse caused a hideous plague and dire famine[402]), Morality Manipulation (The demonic curse had people's hearts turn black and murderous, where the weak were slain without pity[403]. The curse gave Hector an immense thirst for vegeance, attempting to make him kill Isaac so that he could possess his body[404]. Dracula can cloud one's senses in darkness, having the evil eat away at their souls[405]), Madness Manipulation (Barlowe was driven made by the power of Dominus, making him willing to give his life to resurrect Dracula[406]. Shanoa with the dominus is using a power of Dracula's[417], where Aeon notes that power is governed by time[418]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[419], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[420]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[421], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[422] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[423], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[424], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[425], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[426], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[427]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[428]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[429], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[430]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[431]), Law Manipulation (Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[432], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[433]), Power Modification (Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[434], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[435]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[436]).

With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[446], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[447]), Sealing (Dracula's power allowed Soma to easily repel away a multi-layered seal called aurora a multilayered rectangular barrier ritual that was supposed to isolate Soma and then remove Dracula's powers from him[448]. Even while greatly weakened, when the Aurora was used on Dracula, he greatly resisted it, requiring two master magicians to affect him[449]. Dracula's power is so great that very few magical items can truly hold his magic within a seal, requiring the usage of an entire library worth of grimoires in order to truly seal away just his magic alone[450]. The only reason Brauner was able to seal away Dracula was due to him not reviving completely otherwise his seals would be easily broken by Dracula's power[451]), Fire Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to fire based attacks[452]), Electricity Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to thunder based attacks[453]), Poison Manipulation (Dracula is naturally immune to poison based attacks[454]), Spatial Manipulation (Brauner using Dracula's power spatially segregated Dracula from the castle[455]), Power Modification, Information Manipulation, Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Dracula's magic and powers have no limits posed on it from the grimoires where heroes summoned from the catalogue are unable to stray too far from its contents and have limited actions they can do having summoned heroes have their powers greatly limited from their true strength[456]), Fate Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Death serves Dracula with unfailing loyalty[457], where Death is noted to govern the fate of death[458], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[459], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[460]. Death decides who lives and who dies[461]), Immortality Negation (The Vampire Killer is unable to strip Dracula of his immortality whereas the Vampire Killer can render immortal skeleton death gods like Death, mortal, having him bleed from attacks, giving him mortality as shown when Death dies to his own scythe cutting off his head and having blood spurt out, something not possible as a skeleton[462], and can kill Death to the point that he requires Mathias to survive in order for him to rise from the dead[463])

Trivia

  • In an interview for GameSpot, Koji Igarashi mentioned that "Shanoa" is a codename, which means her real birth name and bloodline are unknown.
  • "Shanoa" may have derived from the French Chat Noir, meaning "Black Cat".
  • The phrase "I am the morning sun, come to vanquish this horrible night!", said by Shanoa in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, does reference to the text "The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night.", used to signify the coming of daytime in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
  • Shanoa is one of the two female characters in the Castlevania series who are the main and only protagonists in their own games, along with Sonia Belmont.
    • Furthermore, Order of Ecclesia is the first "metroidvania" game in the series to feature a woman in the lead role.
  • Michelle Ruff, Shanoa's English voice actress, performed Maria Renard in previous Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles and its portable games.
  • Shanoa does not appear in the Beta version of Castlevania: Moonlight Rhapsody, along with Soma Cruz.
  • Shanoa's design notably resembles certain characters from other franchises, such as Shiki from Samurai Shodown 64 (1997) and Millennia from Kagero: Deception II (1998). Common traits between these characters include: fair skin, pitch black and straight hair, apparels mainly themed in blue and black, but most prominently a wide cleavage on the back featuring very similar tattoos. However, it is unknown if these similarities were intentional.

“What have you misunderstood? I am Death. Human death only comprises a part of chaos. They can come back again as zombies or skeletons, but without a soul, dead bodies cannot be revived. And ----- there is no reason to perform that.”
  64. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "Those scythes constructed by magic did not turn towards Olrox or Michelle, every scythe then gathered near the youth’s body.
Then, those numerous blades made from magic overlapped with each other and with a powerful atrocious magic constructed a Death scythe in Death’s arm.
“This false castle……You shall fall into chaos as a thing that denies the existence of the [lord]……[death] shall pass judgment on your sins!”
Sensing the overwhelming existence of [death], Olrox again realized that the youth in front of him is [Death]------laughed out loud.
“interesting…… So, death really exists! Thus I’ll use all my power…… to shatter that thing called [death].”

  131. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
    “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
    Kill the distance-----
    Kill the sound-----
    Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
    “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

There was definitely no room for doubt. It is certain that the [castle] exists at the back of the mountains. The church’s greatest vampire hunter, Julius Belmont must be contacted. However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children."

The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness.
    “Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
    However-----
    Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul."

Several hundred years have passed with battles with the [dark lord] Dracula.
When suddenly, an end to it all has been foretold. 1999----- Thanks to the power of a clan in Japan, Dracula’s castle was sealed inside a [solar eclipse] to disappear forever.
However, in this world, there is no such thing as forever. [They] had understood that Dracula’s regeneration cycle ought to have ended. Indeed, people have prepared for this but will it still exist? The castle is the symbol of the chaos within humans and as long as people exist, it will not be completely sealed.

That really is no doubt an obsession.
