Vincent Brooks is the protagonist of Catherine. Troubled by nightmares, he becomes entangled with the mysterious titular blond, Catherine, whose presence threatens the stability of his future with his long-term girlfriend, Katherine. The outcome of his story depends largely on the player's actions within the game.
Persona 3 Portable
A man that appears to be Vincent appears in Persona 3 Portable as an unnamed man drinking alone at the Club Escapade. The man drinking alone gives hints about the game Catherine, asking the player to remember him and that if they ever meet again, he will tell more about his story, also saying that it probably won't have anything to do with the protagonist's problems as a reference to Catherine not having any relation to the story of Persona 3.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Vincent Brooke’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |

Early life Vincent attended elementary school and high school with Katherine, Orlando, Erica, Jonny Ariga and Paul Miller. Vincent and Katherine's friendship was initially antagonistic, as Vincent and Orlando would often steal and eat Katherine's lunch. Though it upset her, she began giving Vincent her snacks, indicating that she had a crush on him. Daniel Kirsch also attended the same school. Daniel constantly felt in Vincent's shadow even as he looked up to him, and spent his childhood life tagging along and trying to fit in with him. This continued through his life. Vincent and Katherine met again during their 10-year high school reunion. Afterwards when she was depressed, Vincent ran to her side in the middle of the night and comforted her. He found out that she was having dating problems and started to give her advice, but ended up falling for her himself. While seemingly romantic, Erica theorizes that Katherine only started dating him because her maternal instincts and dominant personality wouldn't allow her to leave a slacker like Vincent alone. Despite being boyfriend and girlfriend, Vincent and Katherine don't live together for unknown reasons (possibly because of their workplace commutes), although she occasionally visits him to see how he's doing and drop off snacks. The two have been in a steady relationship for the past 5 years, though Vincent isn't interested in taking it to the next level, and Katherine's parents have started to pressure her to marry. This doesn't sit well with Vincent, who is comfortable with their current standing and is afraid to fully commit to their relationship. Catherine He begins by having a confrontation with Katherine about his unpaid overtime, as she is upset at him for his inability to stand up for himself. Katherine then brings up the possibility of both of them getting married. He dodges both issues and escapes to the Stray Sheep, where he complains to Toby, Jonny and Orlando about how he wants things to just stay the same. When they leave and he continues drinking, he is approached by Catherine, who seduces him with the thought that she's a girl who is just as terrified with commitment as him, and wants nothing more than her freedom. He wakes up next to her with no recollection of anything that happened. She quickly leaves before he can tell her he's already in a relationship, and he spends the rest of his day discussing the affair and how he should handle it with his friends. As time goes on, he keeps desperately finding ways to avoid both women finding out about each other, despite many close calls. Each night, he finds himself waking up next to Catherine. At one point, Katherine asks him to meet her for lunch for an important piece of news, where she tells him she thinks she's pregnant. Although stunned, he takes slight comfort in knowing nothing is certain yet. This doesn't last long, as Katherine soon tells him (while Catherine is secretly in his apartment) that she actually is pregnant. One morning he awakens to a threatening phone call from a man named Steve Delhomme, who explains that he is Catherine's apparent boyfriend, and demands that Vincent stop seeing her. Frightened by the call but glad to finally have a firm reason to break up with her, he confronts Catherine, who explains she doesn't know anyone named Steve. Vincent then decides Steve must have meant Katherine, and he tries to deal with the implication she is cheating on him before confronting Katherine as well, who also denies knowing a Steve.
Satisfied about the breakup, he awakens the next morning with no nightmare, no Catherine in his bed, and Katherine at his door. He happily opens it, when Catherine shows up behind him and greets Katherine offering a cup of coffee; Katherine enters and demands to know what is going on. Katherine attempts to get answers from Vincent; after a heated exchange of insults between the two women, Katherine, due to Vincent's betrayal and Catherine's constant insults of her worthlessness to Vincent and Catherine's superiority to Katherine, snaps with despair and moves over the kitchen sink searching for a kitchen knife while still facing Vincent and Catherine but to no avail as Catherine predicted this and took the knife in advance.
At the end of the Nightmare, Katherine breaks down and admits she cannot continue on after Vincent's lies. He comforts her and tells her his true feelings. Katherine asks Vincent if he still thought about her during the affair, and Vincent says of course he did. After Vincent apologizes to Katherine, Katherine is still reluctant to escape. The area shakes and Katherine falls down, but Vincent jumps to cushion Katherine. Katherine asks Vincent a question, but doesn't finish it. Vincent wakes up again in bed, and realizes everything about the entire Katherine and Catherine meeting had been a dream. Katherine is again at his door, this time to break up with him because of the affair and tell him the pregnancy was a mistake. Katherine admits that she found that her pregnancy was a false alarm, but didn't tell Vincent sooner despite her relief because she felt that he would leave her. Although she knew her mistakes, she was incredibly scared because his reactions didn't increase her confidence in him, making her question if he would rather leave her with the baby in order to not have to deal with the stress and commitment of being a father. Although Vincent claims he was happy about the news of her "pregnancy", Katherine is saddened because she isn't entirely convinced. Despite his best efforts to stop her, Katherine politely yet firmly breaks up with him and leaves his apartment. Devastated, he sinks into a depression. Vincent, bemoaning his troubles to Orlando, discovers that all of Catherine's contact information and SMS messages (including several revealing photographs) have inexplicably disappeared from his phone. This leads his friends to admit that none of them have ever met or seen her, and causes him to doubt his sanity. Vincent, seeking evidence that Catherine exists, remembers that the only other person he ever heard her speak to: the bartender of the Stray Sheep, Thomas "Chop" Mutton, who accidentally reveals himself to be the orchestrator of the entire recurring-nightmare situation. "Catherine" is a succubus working with him, who takes the form of each man's fantasy woman, to tempt him into cheating. Vincent makes a deal with him to return voluntarily to the nightmare landscape and climb the final levels of the tower, in return for which Mutton will release all other captive men. Vincent, having mastered block climbing techniques, is able to win. Being the main protagonist, Vincent appears in every single ending.
Catherine: Full Body In present day, Vincent also bumps into a mysterious girl suffering from amnesia named Rin. Vincent helps Rin find an apartment right beside his as the previous tenant just moved out. He also helps her get a pianist job at the Stray Sheep, after Rin has a successful job interview with Mutton. Throughout several days, Vincent's friendship with Rin begins to develop. Rin tries to get closer to Vincent at times, which makes him feel uncomfortable. On Day 6, due to a mishap, Vincent finds out that Rin is a male cross-dresser. Vincent reacts poorly, slapping Rin's hand away as a kneejerk reaction. However, this is due to shock and confusion instead of malice. Vincent immediately feels guilt over it, apologizes to Rin after being reprimanded by Erica. Depending on the player's actions, Vincent may choose to prioritize Rin over Katherine and Catherine, which unlocks a new route. Vincent's nightmare in the eighth night is then altered. In it, Vincent sees Catherine defiling Rin's murdered body with a knife, spilling blood all over Rin's piano and toys. Vincent flees to safety in his room, although Katherine tries to murder him too. He defends himself from Catherine and Katherine, but is saved from the real Rin, as the dead one is an illusion, although Rin gets a cut on his leg. Rin follows Vincent in the nightmare stage as they flee from monster Catherine, although Rin gets abducted by the creature. Later, Vincent discovers Rin is still alive and is being held hostage in the nightmares by Mutton. After Vincent defeats Mutton, Rin and Vincent reunite (depending on the route, Rin and Vincent may confess their love and kiss, or they may simply enter the door which defeats Mutton). In the True/Good Ending routes, at the Stray Sheep, they relax and Rin reveals that he belongs to a race which are considered "angels" in Vincent's world. However, they are confronted by a strange angelic-looking being who Rin reveals is his brother. Archangel wishes to bring Rin back home with him, which both Rin and Vincent oppose. The brother prepares to destroy humanity, but Rin convinces him to let Vincent try to prove himself first by partaking in a trial, similar to the preceding nightmares. If Vincent wins, humanity won't be destroyed and Rin can stay with Vincent.

Demons only have "forms" due to the observation of humanity with even some demons being in the lowest form of humanity's observation making them unseeable without help, the "true forms" of demons are in truth without the concept of form, without observation they are not certain nor stable, are a phenomena without an answer and are unbound by concepts such as truth completely unshaped by reality. Attack Potency: Human level, Far Higher with Observation & Willpower | At least Human level (Can knock sheep out of the way, casually punched a lock off), Far Higher with Observation & Willpower | Unknown: Cosmic level (In the Catherine True Ending route, Vincent gives up his humanity to be King of the Underworld, with Catherine as his Queen. Being on this level should put him on a relative level to Astaroth who is noted as the Prince of Hell, and one of the 4 Dukes of Hell, serving as one of Lucifer's most powerful subordinates, showing he should be comparable to Lucifer. Lucifer is shown to be a far greater threat then Kagutsuchi, who created and sustains the Vortex world, which was resulted from him erasing the past, present and future of the universe, in order to construct the Vortex World in its foundations. Exists as the light that encompasses and administers all of creation within the Amala universe along with being the source to creation with his defeat causing the destruction of the Amala universe. Merged the Demon World and the Divine World into the remnants of the human realm to create the Vortex World. Kagutsuchi is capable of empowering the Reason Gods, among which is Ahriman, in order to allow them to reshape the foundation of the Vortex World and birth a new reality)

Attack Speed: Regular Human, cannot be blitzed due to Observation | Regular Human, cannot be blitzed due to Observation | Unknown: Undefinable

Due to this, they do not apply by the speed formula and can appear anywhere they want in most cases)
Stamina: Peak Human (Capable of repeatedly climbing up a chain of blocks, doing entire puzzles over several floors while avoiding enemies without tiring), Limitless as a demon (Demons are noted to have infinite and endless powers unlike humans who are restricted with their limited powers by Ouroboros the embodiment of infinity. Due to their innate physiologies, demons naturally do not need to breathe, eat, or sleep. Demons such as King Frost can passively produce magic for years upon years even while fighting enemies without tiring)
Range: Standard Melee, Cross-Dimensional as a demon (Demons passively create adecoherence field, that is essentially a special dimension of quantum fluctuation that they exist in, where humans cannot see them, and can attack from there. Demons can also create mirage realms, that shroud an entire area in mist, with them being able to attack from inside said illusion without being capable of being attacked back, requiring the user to go inside of their illusion to fight them), At least Universal with Observation (Can affect beings such as YHVH through their observation, where YHVH is existence itself)
Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (Vicent's climbing is seen as quite innovative to the point that the sheeps originnally giving him tips on how to climb ask him to join them and give them tips, with it being noted that he's "not just a regular guy". Can clear stages that challenge his cognitive abilities. Noted to have skill along with spirit and tenacity. Can keep climbing up floors that get more and more complex. Noted to be a sharp thinker. Noted to have been the only person in this century to reach the Cathedral. One of the few to survive the World of Nightmares, where a person is cursed and destined to die)
Is a user of Observation which grants him:
Observation (Varies between Unconscious Manifestation & Conscious Manifestation; Observation users consciously and unconsciously change truths around them creating Gods and demons from myths and rumors), Negation (The power of observation has the ability to make something without form be certain and stable. The Axiom tasked humans with observing the universe, allowing humans to assign an answer to phenomena without an answer. Dagda mentions humanity's "understanding" (observation) is what's locked him and Danu in physical forms. Nanashi and his party's denial of YHVH cast him into a demonic form. Gods and demons exist within a human's observation. Demons that also exist beyond death can be killed by observation users), Negation of Personal Nonexistence (Ayin Physiology; Can kill The White and demons, who naturally exist within the expanse, which the Monochrome Forest exists within the expanse, a place that is eerily still, having no sound or smell, where even the ground itself feels unusual, which demons naturally exist in. The Forest also holds the White’s realm, which is a vast, white space), Negation of Incorporeality (Can harm and kill demons, who are beings made of data, that exist in a virtual world, along with being pure information. With even the most basic of objects in the verse existing as data), Negation of Abstract Existence (Conceptual, Primordial Source; Demons embody the phenomena and beliefs of humans, with their physical forms only being created due to humanity's observation locking them into these forms, and their true forms existing as the phenomena and beliefs they reside in), Negation of Acausality (Causality Immunity; Can harm and kill demons, who are natural residents of The Expanse, a place that transcends the past, present, and future of the multiverse, demons such as Ishtar are capable of going into separate multiverses, along into the "real world", demons such as Demi-fiend, can exist in different universes asides from the original SMT 3 universe, demons can exist even when the flow of time itself collapses and there is nothing left but a void), Negation of Invulnerability (Metaphysical Invulnerability; Observation users such as Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV, can harm demons with regular guns and swords, even though demons when brought into corporeal forms cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry, along with military grade weaponry[1]), Negation of Immortality (Ageless) & Resurrection (Atemporal Resurrection; It is noted by Lucifer that only a human can kill gods and demons, that when gods and demons try to fight each other the most they can do is seal each other. Permanently killed YHVH. All demons are reliant on the observation of humans to keep them existing, including even nonexistent demons such as The White, allowing them to come back even if they’re erased from existence and nonexistence), Negation of Dimensionless Existence (Non-Dimensional; Demons only have "forms" due to the observation of humanity with even some demons being in the lowest form of humanity's observation making them unseeable without help, the "true forms" of demons are in truth without the concept of form, without observation they are not certain nor stable, are a phenomena without an answer and are unbound by concepts such as truth completely unshaped by reality. Demons under their observation forms embody concepts such as infinity which they are free from in their true forms), Negation of Timeless Physiology (Demons are natural residents of The Expanse, a place that transcends the past, present, and future of the multiverse. Due to this, they do not apply by the speed formula and can appear anywhere they want in most cases), Timeless Physiology (Demons are natural residents of The Expanse, a place that transcends the past, present, and future of the multiverse. Due to this, they do not apply by the speed formula and can appear anywhere they want in most cases), Negation of Omnipresence (Observation can reduce one into a singular being, when the being was originally one that was everywhere within reality), Negation of Omniscience (Humanity's observation of YHVH defies his words and truths, YHVH is an all-knowing being that sets the fate of the entire world), Irreversible Damage (Nyarlathotep used a spear conjured by humanity's observation of a wound that can never heal to inflict a blow that could not be healed even by the strongest healing magic), Existence Grounding (Observation users can bring a demon or god's existence down to their level, such as when Flynn and his party's denial of YHVH as the one true god brought him to the level of a demon, massively weakening him. Dagda mentions humanity's "understanding" (observation) is what's locked him and Danu in physical forms), Power Bestowal (Gods & demons are granted by humans observations of them. To the point that a gods power is based off if humans still remember them. Observation has the ability to resurrect someone and give them strength to the point where they can fight Stephen with The Axioms powers), Power Nullification (Observation allows one to remove one's defenses and strengths along with some of their innate abilities), Reality Warping (Stephen stated that humans have the power to shape the world. Philemon states people have tremendous power in their souls over the flow of reality, with their strong wills being able to change reality), Conceptual Manipulation, Subjective Reality, & Creation (The power of observation, has the ability to make something without form, be certain and stable, The Axiom, tasked humans with observing the universe, allowing humans to assign an answer to phenomena without an answer), Truth Manipulation (Humans have the ability to change the answer they've found into faith, and eventually into truth. Observation debased YHVH's truths, removing him from everyone's mind, killing him), Memory Manipulation (Through the power of observation, the Persona 2 Innocent Sin cast were able to erase their meeting during a summer evening, creating an alternate timeline), Perspective Manipulation (The power of observation allowed humans to change the very design of the Abyss [the Expanse] to what they perceive it as[2]), Statistics Amplification & Resurrection (Observation has the ability to resurrect someone and give them strength to the point where they can fight Stephen with The Axioms powers. Isamu was able to survive a hit from Thor despite being a regular human), Statistics Reduction (Flynn and his party's denial of YHVH as the one true god brought him to the level of a demon, massively weakening him. One's will and beliefs can lower even a nonexistent entity's (such as The White) stats. Gods powers can be greatly reduced if they're forgotten. Observation allowed Aleph and his party to harm YHVH who stated as they were his creations, there blades cannot harm him, yet they were able to), Resistance to Memory Manipulation (Through the power of observation, the Persona 2 Innocent Sin cast were able to erase their meeting during a summer evening, creating an alternate timeline)
With their Willpower, they get: Sheer Will (Naturally users of willpower tend to have some of the strongest willpower in their respective universes), Statistics Amplification (A characters willpower in SMT allows them to increase greatly in strength allowing them to harm enemies they couldn't even scratch before and survive attacks that would have originally kill them, the will of one's friends and allies around them can invigorate one to become far more powerful then before), Regeneration (True-Godly; Characters that get completely erased by demons to the point that everything returns to nothing (otherwise known as returning to The Axiom) but with enough willpower one can regenerate back to life), Resurrection (Everyone praying for Raidou bolstered his willpower up, allowing him to resurrect and regenerate part of his body), Resistance to Pain (Users with high willpower can fight through pain that's so unbearable that it makes one unable to move, constantly take damage and being unable to control their demons well), Memory Manipulation (Noted by Polaris that all of the memories and relationships of the Devil Survivor 2 cast will be completely erased if they choose to restore the world, requiring a strong willpower to retain them), Empathic Manipulation (Humanity's willpower allows them to ignore the voice of God, with Zelenin needing to sing a stronger sword to wipe their willpower away), Truth Manipulation (Users with huge willpower can ignore the truths created by YHVH due to the bonds with their friends)
All previous powers and abilities, though loses Observation & Willpower due to giving up his humanity and becoming a demon, though this grants him Demon Physiology (Powerful level) which gives:
Limited Resistance to Observation (Demons to an extent can resist some humans abilities of observation as shown with them being immune to conventional weaponry[17] and higher-dimensional demons not being able to be perceived by some observation users), Resistance to Cosmic Radiations, Biological Manipulation, & Gravity Manipulation (Demons can naturally exist and breathe within the vacuum of space without any adverse effects done to them.[18]), Death Manipulation (Demons can naturally exist within the vortex world which kills all humans who enter), Disease Manipulation, Corruption, Data Manipulation, & Petrification (All demons are unaffected by the Cuvier Syndrome, a state where corruptive data came out of the black sun, irreversible petrification), Sealing (Demons naturally have a resistance to sealing if they’re stronger than their target, and their sealing resistance gets amplified during the full moon), Forcefield Creation (Demons can pass through tainted barriers that humans cannot pass through), Elemental Manipulation (Shikimi no Kage have specific weaknesses that cannot be exploited by Raidou's gun or other things to do with their specific elemental weakness, requiring Raidou to get a demon's elemental magic to affect it)
Standard Tactics: Vincent is not a fighter and normally does puzzle solving so it's unknown how he'd fight.
Weaknesses: Has a finite amount of chances to undo. Demons are weak to mercuric sulfide[21][22][23][24].
Note: As Catherine and Catherine: Full Body use ancient gods and demons such as Ishtar and Astaroth, it is considered a game apart of the Megami Tensei multiverse. Although Vincet makes a cameo in Persona 3 he is not considered to be apart of that multiverse, as in Persona 3 he remembers his dreams, Katherine is actually pregnant, and it is not the bar he goes to in actual Catherine and Catherine: Full Body. It's also shown that he drinks by himself, which is not the case in actual Catherine and Catherine: Full Body. Another thing to note that Catherine is not in the Persona universe is that in the Persona 5 DLC for Catherine, the Persona 5 cast comes from another universe.
