Hector (Castlevania)
“ | Even if the world of man rejects me... Even if I were to have no place to exist... Even if I were to be hated... Even so... I am human. I sought this power so that I could remain human! Not for anyone's sake! For me! For myself! Not to be the pawn in some ridculous plot for revenge!! | „ |
~ Hector to Isaac |
Background
Hector is the protagonist of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. He is a former general of Dracula who had decided he had enough of killing and fled. A woman Hector had later found contentment with was killed by his old comrade Isaac and he enters Dracula's domain in the game with the intent of avenging his wife and himself upon Isaac.

After working with Dracula Hector realized he does not want to kill humans, even if he will never be a being under the light he refuses to kill innocents[16]. Other
Standard Tactics: Hector will utilize one of his different weapons alaong with an Innocent Devil that best suits the situation.
Weaknesses
- Unique Weaknesses: Due to Hector relinquishing his devil forging powers, making him far weaker then before[438].
- Innocent Devil Weaknesses: When an Innocent Devil performs a special ability, its heart energy will be consumed, when all hearts are consumed, the Innocent Devil will no longer be able to perform any actions until it acquires more hearts[439].
- Mage-Type Weaknesses: Shield works only one time[440]. Only female mages can perform twinkle star[441].
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[442]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[443], a knight who has natural holy powers[444]. Corrupted enemies such as Charlie Vincent, use holy water attacks on Carrie and Reinhardt[445].
Miscellaneous Feats
- Can easily destroy a large amount of barrels[446].
- Destroyed a pillar, causing a chain reaction of other pillars collapsing in a room[447].
- Can easily break apart walls blocking a door[448].
- Can harm and kill Lizardmen, who have hide thicker than armors[449].
- Destroyed a large stone wall[450].
- Destroyed a large stone cavern to open a way to a new area[451].
- Can perfect guard cannon fire[452]
Trivia
- Hector's favorite room is likely the chair room as he showcases a fondness of sitting in different chairs in the castle.
- Hector shares some common traits with Alucard: Both of them can have familiars fighting alongside them, skills with multiple weapons and magic, and the attitude of defection from Dracula's grasp.
- Hector's name is most famously known for being that of one noble but unfortunate Trojan general, whom Achilles dispatched. The name itself is Greek in origin and means "holding fast" - appropriate for the steadfast forgemaster. It is Hector's strength, will and perseverance that saved him from becoming Dracula's next host.
- His blue eyes, like Isaac's red hair, are a trait associated with vampirism in Balkan mythology and in folklore from some parts of Greece. These stories held that a blue-eyed person would become a vampire after death, or that they were already vampiric in nature. It is speculated that Hector and Isaac are no longer mortal men - although Dracula considers them still to be human, and thus lesser.
- It's worth pointing out the contrast between Isaac and Hector physical appearance; their dressing style is very different, as is the color of their hair. Isaac's fiery red hair may be taken as a symbol of hatred and anger, while Hector's white hair may be thought of as a symbol of purity, wisdom and nobility. In short, Hector is the opposite of everything Isaac has become.
- In the game's cinematics, Hector is almost never seen wielding weapons, he simply fights with his bare fists instead. The only cinematic where he's seen holding a weapon is in the introductory trailer, where he uses the Laser Blade against Isaac.
- Hector is one of the only Castlevania protagonists without a known last name.
- Devil Forgemasters are known to go only by their first name. While the reason for this has never been explained, it is probable that the dropping of their family name is part of the requirements while studying the black arts, as a way to symbolize their renunciation to any bonds that may still tie them with their past normal lives.
- Hector shares his English voice actor, Crispin Freeman, with Mathias Cronqvist from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, the latter of whom would ultimately become his master, Dracula.
- The manner in which Isaac tries to get Hector to pursue him, having his wife Rosaly executed at the stake, is very similar to how his master Dracula's wife Lisa ended up dying.
- In the series' chronological history, he is the first hero to defeat Dracula without being a member of the Belmont Clan.

- ↑ Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
“……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
Kill the distance-----
Kill the sound-----
Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
“……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.

The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul.
He understood that something is flowing inside him.
The quantity is small but he realized that this hot magma like thing is eating away his existence. But, in his state it is hard to differentiate whether he is losing control over his boy or his spirit. Still not understanding what is happening to his soul, Curtis just felt that he would soon fade away no matter what he does.
-----That’s …… enough……
-----I……don’t care……what happens anymore.
Curtis threw away all his feelings, and just wished.
-----I just want her……to live happily.
Even if he can overcome pain, fear and despair by himself, his soul can only wish.
And----- his wish reached god.
However, that god is such in name, but his existence is far from Curtis’ faith." - ↑ Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

- ↑ WN: Last question. Why does Dracula keep putting meat inside the walls of his castle?
KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
The meat, I have no idea. - ↑ Castlevania Judgment Aeon's Hyper Attack on Death
