It's about time, Saiyan. You've been running around making messes for too long and now I'm going to choke the life from you. I can't wait to watch you die.
~ Black to Trunks

Background

Goku Black (ゴクウブラック Gokū Burakku), usually referred to as Black, is the main antagonist of the "Future" Trunks Saga of Dragon Ball Super. His true identity is Zamasu (ザマス Zamasu) from the unaltered main timeline within Universe 10. He is a former North Kai and Supreme Kai apprentice serving his former master Gowasu.

Goku Black visited Universe 6, went to the Super Dragon Balls from the unaltered main timeline within that universe, summoned Super Shenron from said timeline, wished to switch bodies with Goku from the unaltered main timeline within Universe 7, and Super Shenron granted Goku Black's wish. Goku Black sought to destroy all mortals alongside Future Zamasu. He was then given the name "Goku Black" by Future Bulma when he initially referred to himself as Goku.

Dimensionality: 3-D

Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[3][4][5] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[6], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[7] block attacks that would otherwise[8] kill them from[9] raising their guard[10], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[11])

Attack Potency: At least Island level (Can fight both Super Saiyan Blue Son Goku and Vegeta after the both have trained immensely, reached the level of Goku Black throughout the arc, where Goku recieved a massive power boost from pure rage that allowed him to overpower Goku Black and Future Zamasu at the same time, with Goku Black being rage amped back to overpower Goku[12]. This Goku is far beyond his Buu Saga self, who was unimpressed by Dabura's power, who he compared to Perfect Cell, who is far superior to his Semi-Perfect form, who destroyed several islands with several blast), Up to Planet level with Strongest Charged Blast (His strongest charged blast by this point should be superior to Super Perfect Cell's solar kamehameha which is shown that if it succeeded, it would've destroyed the entire planet) | At least Island level (Matched Goku in his Super Saiyan 2 form, and later grew strong enough to harm Vegeta as a Super Saiyan Blue[13]), Far Higher with Super Saiyan Rosé (One-shot a Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and overpowered Son Goku. Has grown stronger after multiple zenkai boosts). Attack Speed: Relativistic | At least At most Relativistic

Reaction Speed: Relativistic (Superior to base Post Black Arc Son Goku, who fought against a pre-Tournament of Power Son Gohan, who fights against a parasite called Watagash, who escaped Jaco and flew from an unknown location in the universe to Earth in a short timeframe[14], which would result in these speeds) | At least At most Relativistic

Stamina: Superhuman (Is capable of being in pain for almost 6 hours straight and refusing to die. Should be comparable to Vegeta who stood thinking for three days without showing any signs of tiring or growing hungry)

Range: Standard Melee, Multi-Supercluster with Ki Attacks, and Shock-waves (Comparable to Goku whose shockwaves spread across the universe and reached the Kaioshin Realm, otherworld, and more), Interstellar with Instant Transmission, Kai Kai, & Ki (Instant Transmission, can forcibly send his opponent to other places such as heaven. Goku's aura could be seen and felt in the Otherworld[15])

Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (Black and Zamasu were capable of forming of plan to take over the universe, betraying Gowasu and teaming up with each other. As a Kai, Zamasu should be comparable to the other Kais. Black is capable of using Goku's fighting techniques and abilities. Just after fighting Goku, he was able to unlock his own Super Saiyan form, and learn new abilities as he kept fighting)

Powers and Techniques

Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[16][17][18] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[19], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[20] block attacks that would otherwise[21] kill them from[22] raising their guard[23], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[24]), Aura (Projection; A users ki aura can exert itself[25] as a weapon to attack[26]. Explosive; Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[27], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[28]. Mood Reflection; Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[29]), Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[30]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[31] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[32]), Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[33]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[34], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[35], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[36], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[37], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[38], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[39]), Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[40]), Penetration Damage (Bladed Penetration; Ki users can conjure up a circle of chi that is sharp and can cut through enemies far more powerful then themselves[41][42], along with this they can conjure ki as a means to stab through an opponent[43]), Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[44]), Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[45]), Attack Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Those with ki can nullify attacks of lesser ki with their ki alone[46][47]. They can also catch and nullify ki attacks around their level through focusing enough[48]), Power Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[49], which fully destroys a target[50], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[51], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[52], along with even the likes of Son Goku[53]), Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[54]. These forcefields can be expanded[55], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[56]), Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[57], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[58]), Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[59] release all of the energy within them[60] to cause a massive[61] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[62] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[63]), Binding (Energy Binding; Ki Users can use their ki to bind targets to objects, making them unable to escape even if they're of equal power[64], however, those stronger than the ki user can easily break out of it[65]), Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[66]), Non-Standard Interaction (Intangible Interaction; Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[67]. Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D); Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[68]), Healing (Healing Singular Targets, Advanced Healing; Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[69], it can also heal from near death[70]), Resurrection (Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited); Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[71]. Resurrection from Exhaustion; Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[72]), Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[73], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[74], exerting fear[75] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[76] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[77]), Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[78]), Vibration Manipulation (Seismic Vibration Manipulation; Ki users can transfer their ki into an object and cause it to vibrate and shake greatly[79]. Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up[80]), Electricity Manipulation (Unknown Voltage; Powerful Ki users can generate electricity around their aura that can outright electrocute their opponents[81], Goku and Piccolo Jr. showcased being able to utilize their aura as pure electricity during their clash[82]), Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[83]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[84]), Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[85]), Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[86], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[87], or in front of them[88]), Heat Manipulation (At least 100 C; Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[89][90], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat. Ki users electricity aura can burn objects that touch it[91]), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[101]).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[102]), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Can resist poisons through Forcefield Creation[103])

Equipment

  • Time Ring: Retaining his godly ki as a Kai and wearing an earring of a Supreme Kai, Black is able to wield a Time Ring, which allows him to travel through time and even alternate realities. The ring also acts as a stabilizer, keeping his existence unaffected by changes in the past, even when Beerus killed his past self. He only wields this in the anime, while in the manga his partner Zamasu is the one who possess the Time Ring.
  • Potara Earrings: After killing Gowasu, Black took his former master's (Gowasu's) Potara earrings, allowing him to use the full capacities of a Supreme Kai. Upon meeting his future counterpart, Black gave him the right earring.

Notable Techniques

  • Immortality: The ability to remain unchanged by the passage of time, unable to die, and simply live forever. Obtained using the Super Dragon Balls. Due to his apparent immortality, Future Zamasu is only moderately unfazed by any injury, no matter how grievous. He is also apparently unaffected by energy attacks, as he took the full brunt of Future Trunks' Final Flash and Goku Black's Black Kamehameha without a scratch. However, he can still be defeated by sealing him away using sealing techniques like the Evil Containment Wave. He is also susceptible to being erased from existence by Zeno.
    • Regeneration: Thanks to his immortality, Future Zamasu heals any wound he may incur within seconds.
  • Healing: As a Supreme Kai attendant, Future Zamasu possessed the ability to rejuvenate anyone and restore them to full health instantly, even if they are on the brink of death.
  • Flight: Zamasu is capable of flight using his ki.
  • God Splitter: Future Zamasu's version of the Black Power Ball used by Goku Black. This variation is indigo in color and functions like its predecessor, and additionally can be used to block the opponent's ki blasts.
  • Shockwave: The ability to use invisible ki blasts to harm the opponent.
    • Exploding Wave: Zamasu creates an explosion from the ground.
  • Energy Blade: Future Zamasu concentrates ki around his hand to create a blade which he uses to slice at the opponents. Zamasu can use several variations of this technique.
    • God Split Cut: Future Zamasu concentrates ki around his hand and then uses it like a sword to slice opponents.
      • Heavenly Arrow: A variation where the blade can be extended somewhat or fired as a blast at long-range in rapid succession.
      • Instant Severance: This move was never used by Future Zamasu himself, but used by his present counterpart.
  • Ki Sense: Future Zamasu is able to sense the ki of other lifeforms. As a Core Person, Zamasu can naturally sense godly ki.
  • Telekinesis: Like the Supreme Kai of Universe 7, Future Zamasu is able to utilize telekinesis to hold down his foes. Used against Super Saiyan Goku in the manga, it is noted that Future Zamasu is so skilled with the ability that he could potentially freeze Super Saiyan God Goku.
    • Psycho Javelin: Using his telekinesis Future Zamasu picks up numerous objects and fires them at his opponent.
  • Taunt: Future Zamasu taunts his opponent in order to enrage them.

Other

Standard Tactics: Both Zamasu and Black prefer using their God Split Cut to stab the opponent and kill them. They will then use their various ki attacks, and if required, they use the Potara to become Fusion Zamasu.

Weaknesses

Note

  • Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[151].
  • The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

  110. The Kaiōshin possess the power of “creation”, which provides stars/planets and life-forms the impetus to be born. The one who possesses the opposing power, and authority, of “destruction”, is the God of Destruction. Through the repetition of destruction of stars/planets continually increasing in numbers, and the birth of new stars/planets, the balance of the entire universe is maintained.
