Background

In the year 1691, exactly 100 years after his defeat at the hands of Christopher Belmont, Dracula started resurrecting himself once again. As the hearts of men began to darken and a cult of Dracula formed, the Dark Lord himself was resurrected on Easter Day. By this day and age, the Belmont Clan was still passing along their traditions of hard training and vampire hunting, with the newest member of the Clan to wield the Vampire Killer whip being Simon Belmont, the main playable character of Castlevania NES.

Much like his ancestors before him, Simon Belmont didn’t hesitate to take his whip and head to Dracula’s Castle; he was incredibly motivated by stories of his ancestors before him, namely Trevor and Christopher, who he hoped to live up to. Simon fought his way through Dracula’s Castle, destroying countless creatures of the night, before facing Count Dracula himself.

Although Simon was able to successfully slay the Dark Lord, unbeknownst to him, Dracula had placed a curse on Simon’s back, which would slowly kill him, in hopes of ending the Belmont bloodline for good. Unaware of this curse, Simon watched the castle crumble from far off.

Nearly a year passed, and Simon spent his days defeating any monster he saw near Transylvania, attempting to rid the land of any of Dracula’s remnants. While he was doing so, however, a strange man named Aeon appeared before him, and pulled him into a place known as the Time Rift. Here, Simon learned that there had been a convergence of time, and that a demon known as Galamoth sent his minion, the Time Reaper, to destroy the entire Castlevania time-space.

Eager to get the chance to meet heroes such as Trevor Belmont while traversing the Time Rift, Simon gladly went along with the plot. He hoped to not only save the timeline from destruction, but prove to himself that he was truly a legendary warrior, by challenging Trevor. Simon got his chance to do so, proving himself to Trevor, and finally defeating the Time Reaper. With everything done, Simon was returned to his own time, and continued hunting the demon stragglers.

Nearly six years following Simon’s adventures through the Time Rift, he began to feel incredibly weak. Kneeling at the Belmont Cemetery, he began to contemplate if he was going to soon die, and why. Out of nowhere, a mysterious woman appeared behind Simon, and informed him that seven years ago, Dracula had inflicted him with a terrible curse. She told Simon that the only way to break this curse would be to collect the body parts of Dracula, and then burn them.

Knowing this, Simon got up immediately and began searching all around Transylvania for the parts of Dracula’s body, and eventually he was able to track them all down; not without the help of a few townspeople, though. Simon finally placed the body parts at the altar and was ready to burn them, until they joined together and brought back Dracula’s soul.

Simon fought against Dracula’s Spirit as hard as he had the first time he faced the Dark Lord, and was successful in securing his defeat once again. After this hard-fought battle, Simon’s curse was finally dispersed, and he was brought back to peak health. The townspeople started looking up to Simon as the greatest hero of the age, and gathered around him, thus forming a village around the Belmont’s. This village would be where Simon’s grandson, Juste Belmont, grew up.

Powers and Techniques

Is a member of the Belmont Bloodline, which gives him:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (The Belmonts are known as the most powerful and renowned vampire hunters within the world of Castlevania[71]. During and before Trevor's time[72], the Belmont's were feared because of their immense power[73]), Acrobatics (Due to Belmonts superhuman nature, they possess very athletic and acrobatic bodies, examples include Richter easily flipping over Death's scythe attack while also jumping around and fighting Death while on a moving horse carriage[74]. Richter also showcases this with his boss fight in Dracula X where he must jump across platforms while also fighting against Dracula[75]. Julius showcasing extreme acrobatic leaps to reach the top of a castle drawbridge[76]), Genius Intelligence (Belmonts are trained and some of the best users of various sub-weapons, which in Castlevania requires one to have a high intelligence to be able to do[77]), Martial Arts (Trevor left behind all of his fighting techniques to each new Belmont clan member and Morris clan member[78]), Weapon Mastery (No matter the Belmont, they have all showcase a natural gift in using weapons, with Christopher showcasing the tools of his family's destiny are always the axe, dagger, cross, & stop watch[79]. Many of the famous Belmont weapons were left behind by Trevor[80]), Sheer Will (The Belmonts are all ones with strong courage and willpower, where having a strong constitution dictates and influences how fast one can recover from status effects such as poison or curse[81]. Belmonts are pillars of strength, willing to keep fighting even when weakened greatly and having their existence slowly erased from history[82]. Simon claims that the Belmonts and Morrises did not defeated Dracula because of the Vampire Killer, with the reason behind heroes' capacity to fight against evil lying not in their physical strength but the noble desire to drive away evil and usher in all that is good, the desire to protect the world for all of humanity, with the courage to fight to protect others being the true essence of a hero and a Belmonts strength, with this even applying for other heroes such as Shanoa, Maria, Charlotte, and even Arikado[83]. The Belmonts will should be greater than even the likes of the Fernandez/Belnades Clan, including Camilla Fernandez, where its noted she had great spirit and struggled mightily against the curse before she became a vampire[84]), Aura (Belmonts release a glow of aura around them[85], that envelops their body[86]), Extrasensory Perception (Belmonts can feel others being in an area, such as Simon Belmont being able to feel Trevor Belmont is in the time rift[87]. Leon could sense and feel that Joachim Armster was a vampire[88]. Leon could sense the rage from a Vampire Killer[89]. Trevor could sense a bad omen approaching[90]. Christopher Belmont felt a "chill" upon Dracula's return[91]. Belmonts such as Juste could sense Death's overwhelming power[92]. Belmonts such as Juste could sense the aura of the two different layers of the castles[93]. Belmonts can see beings like the Bitterfly, a mutated insect, visible only to magicians[94]. Julius could sense the dark powers within Soma Cruz[95]. Julius could sense Dracula's powers at work within Graham, though could tell from sensing Graham that he very likely was not Dracula[96]. Julius when fighting Soma could feel the evil spirit within Soma but also Soma's good spirit[97]. Belmonts have the ability to sense the presence of beings physical and spiritual that cannot be seen by ordinary humans[98]), Precognition (Premonitions; Belmonts can have future premonitions through their dreams, such as Christopher dreaming about Dracula stealing his son and turning him evil, far before he even had one[99]), Magic (Due to coming into contact with Rinaldo and gaining the whip, Rinaldo granted him a magic amulet[100]. where Leon gained magical energy that would naturally be passed down to all of his descendants[101]. Belmonts such as Julius naturally has magical powers due to this[102], along with Juste having magical powers deriving from the Fernandez (Belnades) family[103]), Principle Manipulation (Magic comes from alchemy, a field that experiments with the principles of God's creation of the world[104]), Afterimage Creation (Belmonts can envelop themselves in an aura of light that allows them to move so fast, their light projections cannot keep up[105]), Glyph Creation & Portal Creation (The Belmont blood acts as a key to[106] the infinite corridor[107]), Empowerment & Holy Manipulation (Belmonts can amplify weapons, Leon holding The Whip of Alchemy had it become more powerful then before, with Rinaldo stating that the whip fits Leon better then it fits him, despite him being the one to make the Whip of Alchemy[108]. Medusa even noted that it wasn't so powerful before believing the whip gained its complete form[109]. Belmonts can call upon the power of the light and use it to amplify their strength to be stronger and faster[110], this is also shown with Trevor Belmont's ultimate in Castlevania Judgment[111]. The Belmonts can use their stored energy (hearts) and transfer it into subweapons to make regular weapons as strong as they are along with magically enhancing them[112]), Invulnerability (Belmonts have an inborn self-defense ability known as "Burning Mode" which makes them invincible and raises their status to twice the normal level[113]), Statistics Boost (Belmonts get stronger from hearing of someone's grief, wanting to help them[114]), Reactive Power Level (As Dracula grows stronger each time he revives, the Belmonts have had to keep up, evolving to be powerful even without the strength of the Vampire Killer[115]), Sealing (Metaphysical Sealing; Belmonts can capture the spirits of enemies equal or greater to an area boss and use their abilities from their soul[116]), Nullification (Sealing Nullification; Belmonts such as Julius can compltely destroy barriers, however depending on how strong the barrier is, they may have no more energy to fight[117])

Belmonts can[142] can break out of[143], being petrified[144]), Erasure (Metaphysical Erasure; The blood of the Belmont Clan can keep one's spirit from being erased from Dracula's magic[145]), Time Stop (Belmonts are unaffected by time being stopped[146]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[147], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[148]), Poison Manipulation (Belmonts can take hits from the poison zombie[149], which spews a deadly poison that can rot flesh on contact[150]), Fear Manipulation (Belmonts can be within Dracula's presence along with holding and using Dracula's rib bone where Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[151] an ordinary hero feel like a spineless coward[152]), Light Manipulation & Holy Manipulation (Belmonts have a natural resistance to holy elemental attacks[153]), Absolute Zero (Belmonts can take ice from the frost demon[154], a demon that wields absolute cold[155] and a total command of cold[156], making it superior to the likes of Cyril who can wield absolute zero and is seen as a standard ability from a creature of the night[157]), Essence Manipulation (Belmonts can take hits from Succubus[158], who can suck up a person's essence[159]), Sleep Manipulation (Belmonts are able to resist sleep based abilities, such as Leon resisting Walter's attempt to put him to sleep[160]), Death Manipulation & Fate Manipulation (Belmonts cannot[161] be killed[162] by the[163] likes of[164] Death and his scythes[165], who is noted to govern the fate of death[166], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[167], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[168]), Law Manipulation (Belmonts are unaffected by contracts, where Renon had Reinhardt unknowingly agree to a contract with Satan where if he spends over 30 thousand gold pieces, his soul is forfeit, with Reinhardt being able to kill Renon and negate the contract altogether[169], where contracts are made to be absolute and bind one to it's agreements[170])

It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[181]. Notable Techniques

    Whip Combos

Simon uses the whip to link both basic and advanced combos, whether stationary or in motion. Some combos move him forward or upward, giving him solid range.

    Air Combos

Simon can wield the whip to strike with both vertical and horizontal lashes.

    Evading Move

Simon can perform a Thumb Roll in his facing direction, allowing him to dodge any attack as long as he keeps rolling and avoids rolling out of bounds.

    Binding Whip

Simon pulls the enemy toward him with a whip, setting up a base combo for either Rising Whip or Holy Ruin.

    Rising Whip

Simon charges his whip and delivers an upward strike to the enemy.

    Holy Ruin

A surge of energy bursts from a simple strike with Simon's whip.

    Dancing Whip

Simon tosses the whip at close range; it inflicts minimal damage but can irritate the enemy.

    Twisting Arrow

Simon performs a torpedo dive at his enemies, with higher jumps resulting in stronger hits.

    Whip Tornado

Simon charges his whip and performs a 360-degree spin, striking all around him.

    Sudden Impact

Simon charges his whip, spins it, and slams it down in front of him, piercing through all defenses with a surge of energy.

    Vampire Killer (Simon Version)

Simon charges at his enemy, delivering a blow to set up the Super Finisher. As he charges his whip, the Golden Cross on his back shines brightly. He rushes at his foe, who can't comprehend his speed and power in time to block. Simon strikes his opponent five times vertically and then charges his whip again, increasing its power before delivering another ninety-three hits that create the illusion of a sphere. He concludes with two final, powerful strikes, bringing the total to 99 hits. Landing on the ground, Simon explains to his opponent the power of a Belmont.

    Other

Standard Tactics: Simon will use the vampire killer in combat along with a number of different sub-weapons and items that best suit the sitution.

    Miscellaneous Feats

    Trivia

    • According to a statement made by the head director of the three Famicom Castlevania games, Hitoshi Akamatsu, the inclusion of the whip as Simon's weapon of choice is a reference to Indiana Jones.
    • Simon was originally planned to be named "Peter Dante"[363].
    • Castlevania Judgment, for Nintendo's Wii, marks Simon's third appearance in a 3D fighting game, after his bouts in Battle Tryst and DreamMix TV: World Fighters. Like many of the other playable characters, Simon is also able to use his traditional sub-weapons in the game.
    • The original concept behind the 2010 series reboot Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was to remake the original Castlevania starring Simon. While this idea was ultimately not followed through, Lords of Shadow's protagonist, Gabriel Belmont, wears armor which is reminiscent of Simon's artwork and sprite from Simon's Quest (confirmed in an interview by developer David Cox). This is presumably a reference to Gabriel being the first main character of a new Castlevania series, as Simon was of the original franchise.
      • Simon Belmont's sprite also appears in Lords of Shadow after enabling Cheat mode. The sprite copies Gabriel's movements.
    • Simon Belmont was the initial protagonist of Paul Anderson's original script for Castlevania: The Movie. Several rewrites of this script took place and it's not known if he was still planned to make an appearance in the final cut. The project was ultimately canceled.
    • At the end of the original Castlevania, the name listed in the credits under "The Hero" is Simon Belmondo, while in Simon's Quest it is consistently Simon Belmont.
    • His interaction with Genya Arikado in Grimoire of Souls is technically the only time that he and Alucard directly interacted with each other canonically, as Simon and Alucard had previously interacted in Captain N: The Game Master.

“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
      “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
      Kill the distance-----
      Kill the sound-----
      Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
      “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

There was definitely no room for doubt. It is certain that the [castle] exists at the back of the mountains. The church’s greatest vampire hunter, Julius Belmont must be contacted. However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children."

That really is no doubt an obsession.
The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness.
      “Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
      However-----
      Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul."

It was a whip that was soaked in blood in some places.
“I picked this up at the garden and I believe this is yours, right? Old man Julius also uses a whip. I came here just to deliver this to ya.”
Whoosh, receiving the thrown whip, Michelle noticed that it was the magical whip that serves as Curtis’ weapon.
“That’s great……! Curtis! With this your power-----“
In order to shake away the confusion she had a while ago, Michelle raised her voice, but-----
“Sorry, but…… with my current self, I could not handle it.”
“……? What are you talking about? Curtis……”
was he still confused, Michelle made him grip his whip.
Snap, some kind of popping sound rang and Michelle felt a light shock in her arm.
      “Uh……!?”
What happened, she directed her eyes on the origin of the shock-----
A part of the whip’s handle had a rotten like disintegration-----
A part of Curtis’ hand was burned, and that skin immediately returned back to as before.
      ----- No way……
      “Curtis……?”
“……I am currently weak at holy magic.”
