Background
Reinhardt Schneider is a playable main character featured in Castlevania and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. His backstory and quest are largely identical across both games. Reinhardt is a young and broad-shouldered vampire hunter, known for his bravery and noble character. He wields the legendary Vampire Killer whip as his primary weapon, making him a formidable opponent against the forces of darkness.
Reinhardt serves as one of the two main protagonists in Castlevania, alongside Carrie Fernandez, and is available as a playable character from the start. In Legacy of Darkness, however, he must be unlocked by locating one of the missing children during Henry's quest.

Early History Castlevania 64/Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness While navigating the Garden Maze, Reinhardt meets a young boy named Malus, who claims he is being chased by monsters. Though Malus runs off, Reinhardt manages to find his way through the maze by following the boy’s path. Later, Reinhardt comes across Rosa again. This time, she attempts to end her life by exposing herself to sunlight, unable to bear her cursed condition. Reinhardt saves her from self-destruction, a decision that confounds Rosa, who insists he should have let her die. She departs, leaving him with a cryptic warning. In the Castle Center, Reinhardt meets Malus once more. The boy, still trapped, pleads with Reinhardt to save his family and friends. When Reinhardt vows to slay Dracula, Malus cryptically warns that the Count cannot truly be defeated, leaving Reinhardt unsettled. Pressing onward, Reinhardt faces Death, Dracula's loyal servant. To his horror, Death uses Rosa as a pawn, forcing her to fight against him. Reinhardt manages to defeat her without killing her, and Rosa disappears alongside Death in a swirl of mist. Rosa ultimately defies her curse when she reappears atop the Clock Tower. In an act of redemption, she sacrifices herself to shield Reinhardt from Death’s ambush, reaffirming her faith in him. Moved by her sacrifice, Reinhardt promises that her soul will find forgiveness in God's eyes. He then confronts and destroys Death, who acknowledges him as a true Belmont before being vanquished. Bad Ending Good Ending Though burdened by the endless cycle of conflict with Dracula, Reinhardt’s despair lifts when rose petals fall from the sky, followed by a single red rose. Rosa appears, fully human and freed from her curse. Embracing her, Reinhardt finds renewed hope for the future. |

The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[173]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not affect it until the seal is gone[174]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[175], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[176]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[177]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[178]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[179]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[180]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[181]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[182]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[183]. Can cause the glass murals to come to life and attack[188]), Soul Manipulation (Those that die in the castle become one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle for eternity[189]), Abstract Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (The castle can create a core of evil made from hatred, envy, anger and other dark emotions[190]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[191], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[192] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[193], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[194], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[195], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[196], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[197]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[198]. With the real world and world of grimoires being considered the same or "equal"[199], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[200]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[201]), Law Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[202], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[203]), Power Modification (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[204], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[205]. - Morning Star: An upgrade of the Vampire Killer, powering it up and making it far more powerful.
Sub-Weapons
- Dagger: A collection of throwing daggers in Reinhardt’s possession, which can be thrown at enemies at high speeds.
- Axe: An axe made with silver, which Reinhardt uses to throw at his enemies.
- Holy Water: A jar of holy water that erupts into flames once it is released out of its container.
- Cross: This is a boomerang, which is shaped like a holy cross. It returns to Reinhardt after being thrown.

Standard Vampire Techniques
- Blood Draining: Vampires can bite and drink the blood of their victims. Blood acts as a source of energy and life for vampires and creatures of the night, an example of this being Red Skeletons who endlessly[416] regenerate[417], from any kind[418] of damage due to it absorbing blood[419].
- Transformation: Vampires are able to turn into bats, wolves, fog, and other sorts of creatures as they please.
- Super Strength: Vampires are incredibly superhumanly strong, even for the average creature of the night, being noted to be stronger than even Werewolves.
- Super Speed: Vampires can move incredibly fast, to where all of them leave behind light projections due to how fast they're moving, while they can control their speeds even to approach speeds such as sound. They are normally beyond even other creatures in the castle such as the White Demon who moves at the speed of light at top speed.
Other
Standard Tactics: Reinhardt will utilize the legendary vampire killer along with his sword and the sub-weapon that best suits the situation.
Weaknesses
- Vamp Status Weaknesses: If inflicted with the vamp status, one is unable to use health restoration items and do distance attacks, then after a certain period of time one will become a vampire, corrupting them[420].
- Unique Weaknesses: Reinhardt refuses to kill one that looks like a girl or child[421].
- Creature of the Night Weaknesses: Creatures of the night become weaker when exposed to the morning sun[422]. Garlic significantly weakens creatures of the night[423], and causes demons to die if its placed on the ground[424]. If a vital soul is defeated, the grimoire will revert back to its original content[425].
- Standard Vampire Weaknesses: After a vampire is sufficiently weakened, the sunlight can kill them[426]. Otherwise Vampires can stand out in the sunlight just fine[427]. Though some weaker vampires can have the sun burn them overtime, killing them[428]. Oak Stakes are able to break through the magic of a weakened vampire[429]. Defeating a vampire will stop the effects of someone they have bitten, but only before they've turned[430]. This is shown in Harmony of Dissonance where through Juste killing Dracula's Wraith, the bite marks on Lydie have vanished[431]. Vampires reflections do not appear on mirrors, making them easier to identify[432]. Vampires are noted to be weak during the dawn[433].
Note
- Contrary to popular belief, holy attacks and the whips in Castlevania can affect and harm people that aren't apart of the creatures of the night. Leon's doppelganger can use holy water and holy attacks against him in this fight along with the alchemy whip despite Leon being a pure and noble warrior[435]. Simon's doppelganger can harm him with the vampire killer, despite Simon being a noble hero. Holy Water even works and harms enemies such as the "Holy Armor"[436], a knight who has natural holy powers[437]. Corrupted enemies such as Charlie Vincent, use holy water attacks on Carrie and Reinhardt[438].
- While vampires have some weakness to sunlight and can burn overtime in them[439], higher tier vampires[440], can stand out in the sunlight just fine[441] without being weakened. It should also be noted even with Dhamphir's like Alucard, in original lore, he was considered a full vampire yet could stand out in the sunlight perfectly fine.

- In the opening cutscene for his scenario in Castlevania 64, Reinhardt is seen making the sign of the cross.
- Schneider's personal stage in Castlevania 64 is the Tower of Execution. He also received the Tower of Duels as his personal level, which originally belonged to the cut character, Cornell.
- Most members/descendants of the Belmont clan are depicted with swords, but only Reinhardt and Jonathan are seen actually using theirs.
- Originally, Reinhardt was supposed to have the ability to use his whip to swing over pits and swing it around like Simon Belmont in Super Castlevania IV; however, both of those abilities were cut, when Castlevania 64 was trimmed to be released during the holidays of 1998.
- His original name was "Schneider Belmont". He was renamed Reinhardt Schneider during development when the developers were informed by fans that "Schneider" was a surname and not a given name. The "Reinhardt" part of his name comes from the preliminary character Reinhardt Cornell, who was cut from Castlevania 64. Similarly, fans informed the developers that "Cornell" was usually a given name and not a surname.
- His name is German; Schneider is a very common surname, which means "Taylor". Due to this, he's probably an ethnic Transylvanian Saxon or Banat Swabian.
- There is a notable resemblance between Reinhardt's default costume in Castlevania 64 and Simon Belmont's design in Captain N: The Game Master. Both wear blue-colored upper garments which feature a white furry collar with a scarf underneath, khaki-colored pants with boots worn over them, enlarged shoulders (in Reinhardt's case, he wears pauldrons), gloves, their faces feature a pronounced chin and an overall rectangular shape, and both have blond hair mainly combed toward the back. However, it's unclear if such similarities were intentional (furthermore, because Captain N ended production in 1993 and Castlevania 64 wasn't released until 1999).
- To unlock Reinhardt as a playable character in Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, the player has to find Clark during Henry's quest. He is found in the Villa. In the hedge maze, near the area where the Rose Brooch was required to open, there is an alcove with the child inside.
- To unlock Reinhardt's alternate costume, after finding Clark the player has to find Edward during Henry's quest. He is found in the Underground Waterway. Proceed through the waterway, avoiding any falling floors as best as possible, and keep turning right until reaching a staircase; follow them up and cross a broken bridge. Look for an alcove to the left of the bridge, where Edward can be seen standing. Jump to the ledge to rescue him.

Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.

It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.

From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
