Background

Quincy Morris is a referenced character in Castlevania: Bloodlines, known as the father of John Morris and grandfather of Jonathan Morris.

In 1897, Quincy successfully killed Count Dracula but sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation.

The Japanese version of Castlevania: Bloodlines (Vampire Killer) and its U.S. release present slight differences in Quincy's story. Both versions agree that Quincy was responsible for Dracula’s demise in 1897, but some details were altered during English localization.

According to Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin—a direct sequel to Bloodlines—Quincy passed the Vampire Killer whip to his son, John Morris, implying he had wielded it in his fight against Dracula. However, it is unclear if Quincy was aware of the life-draining effect the whip had on non-Belmonts. It is speculated that this might have contributed to his death, similar to John’s eventual fate. In this version, there is no indication that John and Eric Lecarde witnessed the battle between Quincy and Dracula.

In the American version, Quincy’s method of defeating Dracula differs. He is described as driving a wooden stake through Dracula’s heart and dying from his injuries. Additionally, it is explicitly stated that John and Eric secretly observed the fight from the shadows.

Belmonts such as Julius naturally have magical powers due to this[94], along with Juste having magical powers deriving from the Fernandez (Belnades) family[95]), Principle Manipulation (Magic comes from alchemy, a field that experiments with the principles of God's creation of the world[96]), Afterimage Creation (Belmonts can envelop themselves in an aura of light that allows them to move so fast, their light projections cannot keep up[97]), Glyph Creation & Portal Creation (The Belmont blood acts as a key to[98] the infinite corridor[99]), Empowerment & Holy Manipulation (Belmonts can amplify weapons, Leon holding The Whip of Alchemy had it become more powerful then before, with Rinaldo stating that the whip fits Leon better than it fits him, despite him being the one to make the Whip of Alchemy[100]. Standard Tactics: As his passage is very briefly explained, it is unknown what his standard tactics are, though being a descendant of the Belmont Clan, Quincy likely utilized the whip along with potential sub-weapons.

Weaknesses: Overuse of the Vampire Killer will drain a Morris' lifeforce[273].

Differences in the game manuals

Differences from the Novels

  • His name in Castlevania is slightly different, as he is Quincy instead of Quincey.
  • In the novel, Quincey Morris plunges his Bowie knife through Dracula's heart, while in the series, it is believed that he used the Vampire Killer whip (original Japanese lore), or that he plunged a wooden stake through Dracula's heart (English localization).
  • Early sketches by Bram Stoker imply the novel's events taking place at most in 1893, while in the series, they happen in 1897 (it was the novel itself which was published in 1897).
  • In the novel, Dracula wishes to relive war times via vampirization of humans, while in the series, his goal is the extinction of humankind.
  • Quincy has a son in the series, something nonexistent in the novel. Instead, one of the characters names their child after Quincy due to his death.
  • Quincy very obviously is not a relative of any Belmont Clan in the original novel, along with this he does not possess superhuman strength.

    “You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
    Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
    “I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
    With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
    Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.

    Just, faster, soon, die.
