~ Trevor Belmont

Background

Trevor C. Belmont is a main protagonist of the Castlevania series. A direct descendant of the legendary Leon Belmont, Trevor continues his forefather's legacy by serving as a Vampire Hunter. Although the Belmont Clan was feared by the people and thus shunned, Trevor still fought to slay Count Dracula alongside his new friends, Sypha Belnades, Grant Danasty, and Alucard.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Trevor’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

In the late 15th century of Wallachia, nearly four hundred years after the age of Leon Belmont, monsters had begun to start fading into legend. Because of peace returning to the land, the Belmont Clan went from revered heroes, to being feared for their power. Because of this, the Belmont’s were forced to live away from society; always watching in case monsters were to return. During this time, the newest member of the Belmont Clan would be born; Trevor C. Belmont, who was destined to stand out amongst his forefathers. Trevor lived in seclusion, but was trained to use the Vampire Killer whip, alongside several other weapons.

Eventually, around 1476, monsters started on a rise once again, attacking Wallachia. Just as many suspected, the perpetrator was Count Dracula (formerly known as Mathias Cronqvist,) who the Belmont Clan had been trailing since the days of Leon Belmont. With the church desperate to save Wallachia, they called upon the Belmont Clan for help, and Trevor Belmont appeared to their aid. On his adventure towards Dracula’s Castle, Trevor made allies to help him on his way; Grant Danasty (a rebellion fighter who had been turned into a monster,) Sypha Belnades (a witch who had been turned to stone,) and Alucard (Dracula’s son, who wanted to help destroy his father.) These three allies would come to be known as the Legendary Three Warriors.

The four heroes made their way to Dracula’s Throne Room, where together they were able to subdue the Vampire King. With one final strike from the Vampire Killer whip, Trevor killed Dracula; being the first member of the entire Belmont Clan to have killed him. From then on, the Belmont Clan regained their honor and respect from the people of Wallachia. Trevor went on to marry Sypha, and peace returned to the land for a time.

However, not three years later, darkness befell Wallachia once again. With an increase of famine and poverty, along with rumors of a cult of Dracula worshippers on the rise. However, the moment Trevor arrived in Wallachia to investigate, a mysterious man named Aeon appeared before him, and pulled him into a time rift. There, Trevor had learned of an incredible plot formulated by a great Demon named Galamoth, who planned on using his minion, the Time Reaper, to completely destroy the entire Castlevania timeline.

Trevor was able to fight his way through the Time Rift, running into several of his own comrades pulled from several different points in time (such as Sypha, before she had met Trevor.) Using this opportunity to test himself, Trevor decided it would be a great chance to fight his allies at their full strength. Eventually, the Time Reaper was defeated, and everyone pulled into the Time Rift was returned from whence they came. Trevor was placed back in Wallachia, in 1479, where he continued his search for Dracula’s worshippers.

Trevor eventually came to an abandoned monastery, where he met Hector; a former Devil Forgemaster working under Dracula, who has since deserted the Dark Lord and was now attempting to stop him. Unaware of Hector’s change of heart, however, Trevor promptly attacked him. After a short scuffle, Trevor realized that Hector was not the enemy, and continued his search; leading him to a man named Isaac, the true worshipper of Dracula that he was after. Trevor learned of Isaac’s plot to resurrect Dracula but was unable to stop it after receiving a mortal wound.

Because of this, it was up to Hector to stop the Dark Lord, while Trevor healed. Thankfully, Hector was able to get the job done and killed Count Dracula a second time. Thankful that the fight was over, Trevor recovered from his wounds and returned to his wife, Sypha. The two would go on to continue the Belmont Clan of Vampire Hunters, becoming the great-grandparents of the legendary Christopher Belmont.

Golem with his ultimate can shoot out a mouth blast that vaporizes everything it touches as far as the eye can see getting these results[19]. Alucard notes that Trevor was a strong man who was the most suited to defeating 1400s Dracula[20]. Traveled through a forest where enemies attacked from the shadows[51]. Can traverse up stairs while fighting enemies and regenerating enemies[52]. Can traverse a swamp with frog enemies jumping out and attacking out of nowhere[53]. Can traverse a room with platforms quickly moving up and down[54]. Climbed up a flight of stairs while fighting gargoyles that were flying into him[55])

Powers and Techniques

Is a member of the Belmont Bloodline, which gives him:

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (The Belmonts are known as the most powerful and renowned vampire hunters within the world of Castlevania[56]. During and before Trevor's time[57], the Belmont's were feared because of their immense power[58]), Acrobatics (Due to Belmonts superhuman nature, they possess very athletic and acrobatic bodies, examples include Richter easily flipping over Death's scythe attack while also jumping around and fighting Death while on a moving horse carriage[59]. Richter also showcases this with his boss fight in Dracula X where he must jump across platforms while also fighting against Dracula[60]. Julius showcasing extreme acrobatic leaps to reach the top of a castle drawbridge[61]), Genius Intelligence (Belmonts are trained and some of the best users of various sub-weapons, which in Castlevania requires one to have a high intelligence to be able to do[62]), Martial Arts (Trevor left behind all of his fighting techniques to each new Belmont clan member and Morris clan member[63]), Weapon Mastery (No matter the Belmont, they have all showcase a natural gift in using weapons, with Christopher showcasing the tools of his family's destiny are always the axe, dagger, cross, & stop watch[64]. Many of the famous Belmont weapons were left behind by Trevor[65]), Sheer Will (The Belmonts are all ones with strong courage and willpower, where having a strong constitution dictates and influences how fast one can recover from status effects such as poison or curse[66]. Belmonts are pillars of strength, willing to keep fighting even when weakened greatly and having their existence slowly erased from history[67]. Simon claims that the Belmonts and Morrises did not defeated Dracula because of the Vampire Killer, with the reason behind heroes' capacity to fight against evil lying not in their physical strength but the noble desire to drive away evil and usher in all that is good, the desire to protect the world for all of humanity, with the courage to fight to protect others being the true essence of a hero and a Belmonts strength, with this even applying for other heroes such as Shanoa, Maria, Charlotte, and even Arikado[68]. The Belmonts will should be greater than even the likes of the Fernandez/Belnades Clan, including Camilla Fernandez, where its noted she had great spirit and struggled mightily against the curse before she became a vampire[69]), Aura (Belmonts release a glow of aura around them[70], that envelops their body[71]), Extrasensory Perception (Belmonts can feel others being in an area, such as Simon Belmont being able to feel Trevor Belmont is in the time rift[72]. Leon could sense and feel that Joachim Armster was a vampire[73]. Leon could sense the rage from a Vampire Killer[74]. Trevor could sense a bad omen approaching[75]. Christopher Belmont felt a "chill" upon Dracula's return[76]. Belmonts such as Juste could sense Death's overwhelming power[77]. Belmonts such as Juste could sense the aura of the two different layers of the castles[78]. Belmonts can see beings like the Bitterfly, a mutated insect, visible only to magicians[79]. Julius could sense the dark powers within Soma Cruz[80]. Julius could sense Dracula's powers at work within Graham, though could tell from sensing Graham that he very likely was not Dracula[81]. Julius when fighting Soma could feel the evil spirit within Soma but also Soma's good spirit[82]. Belmonts have the ability to sense the presence of beings physical and spiritual that cannot be seen by ordinary humans[83]), Precognition (Premonitions; Belmonts can have future premonitions through their dreams, such as Christopher dreaming about Dracula stealing his son and turning him evil, far before he even had one[84]), Magic (Due to coming into contact with Rinaldo and gaining the whip, Rinaldo granted him a magic amulet[85]. where Leon gained magical energy that would naturally be passed down to all of his descendants[86]. Belmonts such as Julius naturally has magical powers due to this[87], along with Juste having magical powers deriving from the Fernandez (Belnades) family[88]), Principle Manipulation (Magic comes from alchemy, a field that experiments with the principles of God's creation of the world[89]), Afterimage Creation (Belmonts can envelop themselves in an aura of light that allows them to move so fast, their light projections cannot keep up[90]), Glyph Creation & Portal Creation (The Belmont blood acts as a key to[91] the infinite corridor[92]), Empowerment & Holy Manipulation (Belmonts can amplify weapons, Leon holding The Whip of Alchemy had it become more powerful then before, with Rinaldo stating that the whip fits Leon better then it fits him, despite him being the one to make the Whip of Alchemy[93]. Medusa even noted that it wasn't so powerful before believing the whip gained its complete form[94]. Belmonts can call upon the power of the light and use it to amplify their strength to be stronger and faster[95], this is also shown with Trevor Belmont's ultimate in Castlevania Judgment[96]. The Belmonts can use their stored energy (hearts) and transfer it into subweapons to make regular weapons as strong as they are along with magically enhancing them[97]), Invulnerability (Belmonts have an inborn self-defense ability known as "Burning Mode" which makes them invincible and raises their status to twice the normal level[98]), Statistics Boost (Belmonts get stronger from hearing of someone's grief, wanting to help them[99]), Reactive Power Level (As Dracula grows stronger each time he revives, the Belmonts have had to keep up, evolving to be powerful even without the strength of the Vampire Killer[100]), Sealing (Metaphysical Sealing; Belmonts can capture the spirits of enemies equal or greater to an area boss and use their abilities from their soul[101]), Nullification (Sealing Nullification; Belmonts such as Julius can compltely destroy barriers, however depending on how strong the barrier is, they may have no more energy to fight[102])

Resistances to Extreme Colds (Belmonts can walk in ice cold rooms without much worry[103]), Extreme Heats (Belmonts can travel in boiling hot rooms without much affect[104]. They can also fight enemies such as the Flame Elemental who emerges from the lavas of the room with the whole room being so hot it's colored red[105]. Richter showcases this where he moves around in a burning city without much affect or limitation to his movements[106]), Absorption (Belmonts can fight and take hits from the mist[107], a creature that swallows up the living[108]), Life-Force Absorption (Belmonts can take hits from the Spirit[109], which is an evil spirit that sucks up people's life energy[110]), Corruption (Belmonts can be bitten by vampires without instantly turning[111]), Helfire Attacks (Belmonts can take hits from the Flame Demon, a demon that wields the fires of Hell[112]), Status Effect Inducement, Poison Manipulation, & Curse Manipulation (The Belmonts are all ones with strong courage and willpower, where having a strong constitution dictates and influences how fast one can recover from status effects such as poison or curse[113]), Paralysis Inducement (Belmonts can be paralyzed[114], and slowly recover from the effects of it[115]), Attack Reflection (Belmonts can[116] hit Dracula[117] with different[118] projectile[119] attacks[120], this extends to even Morrises'[121], where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[122]), Petrification (Belmonts can[123] take hits[124], from Medusa heads[125] who can turn one into stone upon contacting them[126]. Belmonts can[127] can break out of[128], being petrified[129]), Erasure (Metaphysical Erasure; The blood of the Belmont Clan can keep one's spirit from being erased from Dracula's magic[130]), Time Stop (Belmonts are unaffected by time being stopped[131]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[132], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[133]), Poison Manipulation (Belmonts can take hits from the poison zombie[134], which spews a deadly poison that can rot flesh on contact[135]), Fear Manipulation (Belmonts can be within Dracula's presence along with holding and using Dracula's rib bone where Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[136] an ordinary hero feel like a spineless coward[137]), Light Manipulation & Holy Manipulation (Belmonts have a natural resistance to holy elemental attacks[138]), Absolute Zero (Belmonts can take ice from the frost demon[139], a demon that wields absolute cold[140] and a total command of cold[141], making it superior to the likes of Cyril who can wield absolute zero and is seen as a standard ability from a creature of the night[142]), Essence Manipulation (Belmonts can take hits from Succubus[143], who can suck up a person's essence[144]), Sleep Manipulation (Belmonts are able to resist sleep based abilities, such as Leon resisting Walter's attempt to put him to sleep[145]), Death Manipulation & Fate Manipulation (Belmonts cannot[146] be killed[147] by the[148] likes of[149] Death and his scythes[150], who is noted to govern the fate of death[151], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[152], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[153]. Death decides who lives and who dies[154]), Law Manipulation (Belmonts are unaffected by contracts, where Renon had Reinhardt unknowingly agree to a contract with Satan where if he spends over 30 thousand gold pieces, his soul is forfeit, with Reinhardt being able to kill Renon and negate the contract altogether[155], where contracts are made to be absolute and bind one to it's agreements[156])

Note

Trivia

  • In Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, he is mentioned several times in the story. The first being during the introductory text, as Alucard is mentioned to have teamed up with him. Later, when Maria asks Alucard if she knew of Richter Belmont, Alucard mentions the Belmont Family name and the sprite shows a thought bubble of Trevor's sprite from Dracula's Curse, the warrior he tagged along with in 1476. And finally, when Richter learns the name of the dhampir that just fought him, he recalls the history of how his ancestor with the help of Alucard vanished Dracula 300 years prior (although this is only on the original PlayStation release).
  • In the Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy graphic novel, a painting that references Trevor's appearance on the American box cover appears in the Belmont mausoleum.
  • In Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Trevor's image appears alongside his fellow Belmonts (Leon, Simon, Juste and Richter) when the Greatest Five Dual Crush is cast. He will randomly appear in either his 32-bit sprite of his fake zombie appearance from Symphony of the Night (now colored brown instead of his original olive color) or in his original sprite from Dracula's Curse.
  • In The Art of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow artbook, Trevor's concept art for this alternate universe looks exactly the same as the original Trevor's design in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. This is a reference and basis for his new appearance, which was used by the art team that worked on the Lords of Shadow games.
  • Even though Trevor didn't originally appear in Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, he is frequently mentioned by various characters in that game. Alucard says he was a very charming leader, and Simon Belmont wonders if he is as worthy as him as a hunter of the Belmont Clan.
    • Trevor was confirmed to appear as an Assist Summon in this game and his "Ex Skill" move was going to be called "Destruction", which is an Item Crash of the Axe from Curse of Darkness. However, he was never added to the game during its first run, as it was discontinued in 2020, making Albus the final Assist Summon to be unlocked.
    • However, in 2021, Konami announced that the game would be re-released via Apple Arcade, and Trevor was ultimately released on May 13, 2022 in that version of the game.
  • Of all the recurring protagonists that have appeared in the Castlevania series, Trevor has gone through the most redesigns throughout all of his incarnations, which take place along the many continuities and universes that comprise the franchise.
    • These changes are also notorious for being very drastic between interpretations, differing a lot from his original barbarian-like design (which followed a similar concept to Simon Belmont), starting with Curse of Darkness, which gave him a long coat similar to the rest of Belmonts designed by Ayami Kojima. Both the original timeline and the Lords of Shadow games portray him as honorable and heroic, while the animated series portrays him as a depressed and sarcastic character.
    • Physically, his many incarnations have ranged from featuring him with long hair to shorter and spiky hairstyles, having scars on various parts of his body, wearing eye patches, wearing diverse types of leather apparels or nobleman's fighting outfits, to even at one point becoming a vampire and having pale skin and white hair.

  153. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
    “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
    Kill the distance-----
    Kill the sound-----
    Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
    “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

There was definitely no room for doubt. It is certain that the [castle] exists at the back of the mountains. The church’s greatest vampire hunter, Julius Belmont must be contacted. However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children."

That really is no doubt an obsession.
The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness.
    “Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
    However-----
    Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul."

It was a whip that was soaked in blood in some places.
“I picked this up at the garden and I believe this is yours, right? Old man Julius also uses a whip. I came here just to deliver this to ya.”
Whoosh, receiving the thrown whip, Michelle noticed that it was the magical whip that serves as Curtis’ weapon.
“That’s great……! Curtis! With this your power-----“
In order to shake away the confusion she had a while ago, Michelle raised her voice, but-----
“Sorry, but…… with my current self, I could not handle it.”
“……? What are you talking about? Curtis……”
was he still confused, Michelle made him grip his whip.
Snap, some kind of popping sound rang and Michelle felt a light shock in her arm.
    “Uh……!?”
What happened, she directed her eyes on the origin of the shock-----
A part of the whip’s handle had a rotten like disintegration-----
A part of Curtis’ hand was burned, and that skin immediately returned back to as before.
    ----- No way……
    “Curtis……?”
“……I am currently weak at holy magic.”
