Background

Adrian Fahrenheit Țepeș, better known as Alucard, is the dhampir son of Dracula. While he debuted as a supporting character in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Alucard became widely known as the main protagonist of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

As the product of an unnatural union between Dracula and a human woman named Lisa, Adrian possesses extraordinary powers, destined to surpass human limitations but not quite rival his father. Raised under Dracula's influence, Adrian was trained in the dark arts and shaped into a warrior expected to fight for evil.

Adrian's human side, however, often conflicted with his father's teachings. At the time of Lisa's execution—mistakenly condemned as a witch—she implored Adrian not to seek revenge against humanity, emphasizing the struggles of their mortal lives. Her final words had a profound impact, leading Adrian to question his father's vendetta. After enduring his father's tyranny for as long as he could, Adrian broke away from Dracula's forces and vanished.

Fearing his father's wrath against humanity, Adrian vowed to oppose him. Taking on the name "Alucard"—Dracula spelled backward—he signified his opposition to his father’s ideals. Alucard began targeting Dracula's armies to disrupt his plans and challenge his ideology.

Alucard is a skilled swordsman, favoring one-handed blades in combat. He is also proficient in dark magic and possesses shapeshifting abilities, allowing him to transform into a bat, a wolf, or mist.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Alucard’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
In 1476, during Trevor C. Belmont's quest to defeat Count Dracula, who had manipulated his own son into serving evil, Alucard awaited an encounter with the vampire hunter. Testing the hero's resolve and strength, Alucard challenged Trevor to a duel. Surprised by Trevor's prowess when he was defeated, Alucard acknowledged his skill and requested to join him on his mission.

After aiding in Dracula's destruction, Alucard was left with feelings of guilt for having participated in the act of patricide, despite his noble intentions. To cope with his inner turmoil, he chose to enter a deep slumber, sealing away his powers and isolating himself from the world.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
In 1797, Alucard was forced to awaken from his long slumber due to the unexpected absence of a Belmont to protect humanity. Sensing a growing evil, he set out to investigate and infiltrated Castlevania, where he discovered that Richter Belmont had fallen under the influence of darkness and was controlling the castle.

With the aid of Richter's relative, Maria Renard, Alucard uncovered the truth: the dark priest Shaft had enslaved Richter's mind as part of a scheme to resurrect Dracula. After freeing Richter from Shaft's control, Alucard ventured into an inverted version of Castlevania, which was populated by even more formidable foes. There, he confronted and defeated Shaft, putting an end to his immediate threat.

However, Shaft's resurrection ritual had already succeeded, and Alucard faced his father in battle once more. In their confrontation, Alucard reminded Dracula of Lisa's final words: that humanity should be left in peace and that she would always love him. This revelation caused Dracula to briefly show a spark of humanity before Alucard ultimately defeated him and returned him to the grave.

Following Dracula's defeat, Alucard intended to return to his slumber. However, Maria, who had grown deeply attached to him, resolved to persuade him to remain in the world of the living.

Castlevania: Nocturne of Recollection
One year after Alucard defeated Dracula, an incubus named Magnus sought to lure him back to the side of evil. Despite Magnus' attempts, Alucard resisted his manipulation and instead joined forces with Maria Renard, Richter Belmont, and two vampire hunters, Cyril and Alexis, to oppose Magnus' schemes.

During their conflict, Magnus revealed to Maria Alucard's dark past, including his consumption of human blood and the turning of his former servant, Lyudmil, into a vampire. When confronted by Maria about these claims, Alucard did not deny them, leaving the truth of his actions ambiguous. Magnus exploited Lyudmil's loyalty to Alucard and manipulated him into confronting his former master in battle.

Castlevania: Moonlight Rhapsody
Nearly a century after his second confrontation with Dracula, Alucard joined forces with a group of hunters to face his father once again. United by their shared goal, they worked together to put an end to Dracula's reign of terror for a third time.

Castlevania Judgment
Galamoth devises a scheme to send the Time Reaper from 10,000 years in the future into the past to eliminate his rival, Dracula, and alter the course of history. A man named Aeon uncovers this plot and assembles champions from various eras into a dimensional rift to find a chosen one capable of defeating the Time Reaper. Alucard is among these warriors.

The version of Alucard drawn into the rift originates from a period following the events of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. At this time, he is focused on discovering a way to permanently destroy Dracula. After being pulled into the time rift, Alucard's resolve is to confront and defeat his father at the peak of his power.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
In 2035, a man named Genya Arikado and his associate, Yoko Belnades, a Catholic Church agent, began frequenting the Hakuba Shrine in Japan. Mina, the shrine caretaker's daughter, observed their visits with curiosity but remained friendly to them. Genya, an enigmatic and cold individual with an inhumanly attractive appearance, was affiliated with a mysterious organization linked to national security. Both he and Yoko were well aware of the events surrounding Dracula's castle being sealed within a solar eclipse by a group of vampire hunters, as well as the prophecy foretelling that someone would arrive in the castle in 2035 to inherit Dracula's powers.

It is eventually revealed that Genya Arikado is, in fact, Alucard in disguise. This revelation is hinted at during a conversation between Soma and Yoko in the Study, although Yoko avoids explicitly mentioning his true identity. Julius Belmont was also present in the castle, but his amnesia and advanced age limited his involvement in direct confrontations.

Alucard was aware that the seal holding Dracula’s power was weakening. He feared that if someone with malevolent intentions, such as Graham Jones, were to claim that power, it could lead to his father’s rebirth. To prevent this, Alucard devised a plan. He sought the person destined to inherit the Dark Lord’s powers and ensured that individual would be summoned to the castle on the day of the solar eclipse. This person was Soma Cruz.

Alucard guided Soma in understanding his unique ability to absorb the souls of enemies, encouraging him to use this power to collect the essence of the castle's energy. Alucard believed that a self-aware absorber could use the gathered power to access the Chaotic Realm, a dimension where the broken seal remained. Only someone with Dracula's essence could enter this realm and destroy its source, thereby stabilizing the seal.

After defeating Graham Jones, Soma realized he was the reincarnation of Dracula. Alucard instructed him to sever the flow of Chaos and suppress Dracula’s spirit before it could completely consume him. Soma succeeded in resealing the castle within the eclipse, saving his friends, and preventing Dracula’s resurrection for the foreseeable future.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Alucard makes his first appearance as Genya Arikado to Soma Cruz in 2036 during their encounter at the Hakuba Shrine, where he intervenes to protect Soma from Celia Fortner, the leader of a cult devoted to resurrecting the Dark Lord. When Celia summons monsters to attack Soma, Arikado throws him a knife, allowing Soma to defeat the creatures and absorb their souls. Soma is puzzled by the return of his "power of dominance," to which Arikado explains that Soma always possessed this power but had no need for it after leaving Dracula's castle. After their discussion, Arikado urges Soma to stay uninvolved, claiming that he and his associates will handle Celia.

Their paths cross again in the Demon Guest House, where Arikado berates Soma for ignoring his warning and involving himself in the cult's schemes. However, acknowledging that Soma has already entered the castle, Arikado reluctantly agrees to his continued involvement. Soma informs him about Celia's plan to replace Soma with one of the Dark Lord's candidates, Dmitrii Blinov and Dario Bossi. Arikado promises to investigate further and gives Soma a letter from Mina containing a talisman to protect him from evil energies before departing to track Celia.

Later, in the Cursed Clock Tower, Arikado arrives alongside Julius Belmont, only to encounter Celia, who reveals that she has fused a flame demon with Dario's soul, greatly amplifying his powers. After Celia teleports away, Arikado instructs Julius to pursue Dario while he focuses on finding Celia.

A pivotal moment occurs in the Garden of Madness when Celia deceives Soma by slaying a Doppelganger disguised as Mina. The ruse nearly causes Soma to succumb to his dark nature and transform into the Dark Lord. However, Soma's talisman protects him, breaking the transformation. Celia's plan is further thwarted when the Doppelganger absorbs a black soul from Soma, transforming into Dmitrii, who had previously been presumed dead. Dmitrii reveals that he has copied Soma's power of dominance, making it the key to his ascension as the Dark Lord. Dmitrii also uncovers Arikado’s identity as Alucard, though he keeps this revelation ambiguous. Dmitrii and Celia flee to The Abyss, the source of the castle's dark energy.

To access The Abyss, Arikado enlists Julius Belmont to shatter the barrier separating it from the rest of the castle. Despite Julius's reluctance, as breaking the barrier will deplete his strength, he complies, enabling Arikado to continue his pursuit of Dmitrii and Celia.

In the final confrontation within The Abyss, Arikado confronts Dmitrii, only to find himself powerless due to Dmitrii's manipulation of Celia's sacrifice, which reversed his powers. Dmitrii's flawed dominance leads to his downfall, as the dark energy overwhelms him and merges into the monstrous Menace, Soma's final opponent.

After Soma's victory, as others celebrate his triumph, Alucard remains introspective. He muses that if the world requires a Dark Lord, one will eventually emerge, even if it is not Soma.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls
Alucard initially appears as Genya Arikado, who is requested by the Elgos member Lucy Westenra to assist in containing a growing darkness that was spreading through the grimoires and bleeding into reality. However, when attempting to access the grimoires, it becomes apparent that the past events at the Order had prevented them from directly inserting a real-world person into the grimoires' pages. In response, Arikado assumes his true identity as Alucard, allowing him to access the texts and correct the damage caused by the dark forces.

Enlisting the help of heroes throughout the grimoires Alucard and Lucy work to prevent Dracula's resurrection in modern day.

Personality

  • Suffering and Bitterness: Alucard appears to be a cool, reserved individual with a strong determination. However, this persona hides the deep suffering he endures because of his blood curse, forcing him to roam the world forever fighting. His curse was born from the tragic death of his mother, Lisa, at the hands of humans, which has led him to develop a profound bitterness toward mankind. Alucard feels isolated, and this bitterness shapes much of his actions, fueling his determination to defeat Dracula at any cost.
  • Pessimism and Strategic Thinking: Alucard’s pessimistic outlook on life stems from the burden of his immortality and the pain of his past. He always plans for every eventuality, leaving nothing to chance. This meticulous nature reflects his resolve to destroy Dracula, regardless of the personal cost. Alucard's pessimism is often seen in his cold demeanor and the detached way in which he approaches situations, as he has little faith in humanity or the world around him.
  • Isolation and Emotional Distance: Due to his vampiric nature, Alucard distances himself from others. He exiles himself in eternal sleep, choosing to remain dormant until his awakening in Symphony of the Night. His isolation is also a way of protecting others, as he feels his curse makes it impossible for him to form genuine human connections. Despite this, Alucard occasionally displays a sense of responsibility, taking on the role of a reluctant ally, particularly when circumstances force him into action, such as during Dracula's Curse.
  • Sense of Responsibility and Indifference to Others: In Symphony of the Night, Alucard feels an overwhelming responsibility to confront and destroy Dracula, regardless of the consequences. His focus on defeating his father supersedes any concern for Richter’s possession or the well-being of others, as he remains indifferent to the plight of those around him. Alucard’s cold farewell to Richter and Maria at the end of Symphony of the Night shows his detached nature, as he chooses to pursue his own mission rather than foster connections with them.
  • Vulnerability and Emotional Response: While Alucard forges few human attachments, there are moments where his emotions break through. Notably, when the Succubus impersonates his mother, Lisa, Alucard’s emotions flare, revealing how deeply he still feels the loss of her. This emotional vulnerability contrasts with his otherwise stoic nature and highlights the internal conflict he experiences. His determination to defeat Dracula is also a reflection of his unresolved grief and need for closure.
  • Reluctant Confrontation with His Father: Alucard’s cold indifference toward his father contrasts with the emotional weight of their final battle. He does not hesitate to fight Dracula again, despite the deep emotional turmoil that the confrontation brings. The battle culminates in Dracula’s words echoing the sentiments once spoken by Lisa, Alucard’s mother, showing that the conflict is not just between father and son, but also tied to Alucard’s own unresolved pain.

Can break out of being petrified[259]), Attack Reflection (Can harm Dracula[260], where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[261]), 'Fear Manipulation (Can hold the Rib of Vlad[262], where Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[263] an ordinary hero feel like a spineless coward[264]), Radiation Manipulation & Heat Manipulation (Alucard can shoot off the neutron bomb[265], an enhanced radiation weapons, being a low-yield thermonuclear weapon designed to maximize lethal neutron radiation, without feeling any of the effects), Dream Manipulation (Broke free from the Succubus' spell where she took Alucard to the dream world putting him in a nightmare of reliving his mother's murder[266]), Fate Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Can take hits from Death and his scythes[267], who is noted to govern the fate of death[268], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[269], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[270]), Holy Manipulation (Alucard can resist the rosario which instantly kills creatures of the night[271])
Resistance to His Abilities (Alucard can fight his doppelganger who has all of his abilities and weaknesses, where his doppelganger can resist his abilities)
Resistance to Dracula's Castle abilities (Alucard is able to enter[272] Dracula's Castle without any adverse effects done to him[273]). The Castle Abilities Include: Reality Warping (The Castle does not work on standard logic, where changing rooms can have one view a completely different background[274], such as room with a blue sky that is reflecting up and downwards and having the clouds rotate at a fast speed[275]), Transmutation (Beings that come near are subject to the castle's influence, such as a local barnyard owl which was mutated just from flying near it[276]), Possession (The castle possesses objects with its magic, such as a ouija table[277]), Sealing (Dracula's magic captured Aguni, a primitive god of fire[278]. The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[279]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not affect it until the seal is gone[280]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[281], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[282]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[283]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[284]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[285]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[286]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[287]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[288]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[289]. Michelle even being at the entrance to the castle had her body telling her to not go in and her leg muscles being petrified like stone[290]), Curse Manipulation (The Curse status that spirits inflict[291] comes from them absorbing the magic power around the castle. The Castle cursed a human to turn into a lizard man[292]), Life Manipulation (The castle can bring inanimate statues to life to attack[293]. Can cause the glass murals to come to life and attack[294]), Soul Manipulation (Those that die in the castle become one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle for eternity[295]), Abstract Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (The castle can create a core of evil made from hatred, envy, anger and other dark emotions[296]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[297], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[298] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[299], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[300], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[301], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[302], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[303]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[304]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[305], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[306]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[307]), Law Manipulation (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[308], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[309]), Power Modification (The vital souls are noted to be apart of the Castle's power[310], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[311]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[312])
Alucard's magic affects and can control the entirety of Dracula's Castle[313], along with this, Magnus noted that Alucard's magic is the same power as Lord Dracula's[314], which would give him the abilities of Dracula's magic and that of the Castle, as the castle is directly steered by Dracula's power[315], this gives him:
As Mathias absorbed Walter's soul to become Dracula[316], he has:

Escape Prevention (Upon entering the forest Leon, Rinaldo noted that Walter made it so Leon could not leave[317]), Darkness Manipulation (Due to the Ebony Stone[318], his demonic power allows him to make it eternally night in the forest under his control[319]), Energy Absorption (Walter can get hearts out of objects and enemies, where hearts are a measure of one's stored energy, thus one is absorbing energy when gaining hearts[320]), Domination (Walter has demons under his control[321]), Sealing (Walter sealed away the Forgotten One due to an enormous uncontrollable power it had[322]), Blessed (Noted that Walter is beloved by the eternal night[323]), Teleportation (Teleported Sara to his side[324]), Electricity Manipulation (Walter uses electricity to appear before Leon[325]), Telekinesis (Telekinetically returned Sara to Leon[326]), Sleep Manipulation (Walter can put one to sleep[327]), Invulnerability (Metaphysical Invulnerability) & Forcefield Manipulation (Passive; Walter is completely immune to attacks from Leon[328]), Light Manipulation & Teleportation (Can create pillars of light that he teleports around[329]), Energy Projection (Can shoot out energy projectiles[330]), Homing Attack (Walter can shoot out energy projectiles that home in on the target[331]), Explosion Manipulation (Can shoot out orbs that explode on impact[332]. Dracula is noted to be the most terrifying creature in existence[341]), Large Size in some of his true forms (Supersized; Appeared this large when unleashing his true form against Reinhardt Schneider/Carrie Fernandez[342]), Aura (Dracula merely pushing out his aura was enough to make Richter and Maria flinch[343]. Dracula's evil aura is far greater then the fake Dracula he sent to fight Reinhardt and Carrie[344]. Dark Lord Soma has a thick darkness and suffocating evil due to having Dracula's aura[345]. Dracula has a natural aura of Darkness around him[346]), Immortality (Ageless; Mathias through absorbing Walter's soul denied God's decree of limited life and lives for eternity[347]. Life and Death Immunity; Death serves Dracula with unfailing loyalty[348], where Death is noted to govern the fate of death[349], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[350], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[351]. Death decides who lives and who dies[352]), Reincarnation (Non-Cycle, Memory Remembrance; Despite being[353] killed for good by[354] Julius Belmont, Dracula's soul reincarnated into Soma Cruz[355]), Regeneration (At least Low-Godly normally; Freely burned away his body to fly out with his soul to create a new form[356]. Can regenerate from just his blood[357]. Regenerated back a new body from just his head[358]. His Wraith Spawn while heavily weakened regenerated from his entire body being destroyed[359]. Mid-Godly with Regeneration Cycle; Dracula has a regeneration cycle that allows him to come back as long as chaos exist within humans[360], only being ended by sealing his castle within a solar eclipse[361]), Reliance (On Humanity's Evil; Dracula will keep coming back to life due to the evil minds of human beings[362]. It is noted that Dracula's resurrection is not fueled by his own magic but through the lust for power, jealousy of others, belief in evil, the human emotions that fuel his resurrection[363]), Supernatural Resilience (Can live as just a head, using his head to form an amalgamation of five demonic faces with an exposed brain[364]), Supernatural Luck (Dracula's mere eye grants one a boost of luck[365]), Extrasensory Perception (Dracula's eyeball can see invisible objects[366]. Dracula's eyeball can see something that has been cursed away from sight. Dracula could sense the connection between Annette and the Belmont family[367]. Can see the Bitterfly, a mutated insect, visible only to magicians[368]. Soma Cruz upon awakening to becoming Dracula could sense where Alucard was[369]), Transformation (Shapeshifting; Dracula can transform into different manners of beast and alike, during his fight with Simon Belmont he turned into a large white creature[370]. Appeared before Simon Belmont as a flock of bats[371]. Mathias can transform into a bat[372]. Can transform into a werewolf[373]. Dracula used what remained of his magical powers to transform his body into mist after Christopher defeated him[374]. Can turn into a beast that moves so fast it catches on fire[375]. Body Morphing; Can morph his body to sprouted wings, allowing him to fly with that, asides from his occassional levitation[376]. Has done this against Richter/Maria to unleash his full power[377]), Flight (Dracula can fly in a manner of different ways he can either call upon the Power of Darkness[378], giving him a form with massive wings[379], transform into a bat[380], naturally levitate[381]), Afterimage Creation (Moves so fast he leaves afterimages behind[382]), Intangibility (Phasing; Upon appearing in his fight against Simon Belmont, his head phased through the floor and then the rest of his body appeared[383]), Empowerment (Made a pact with an Evil God, allowing him to call upon its power to help him[384]), Resurrection (Self-Resurrection; It is noted by the Elgos, a group that fully documents all of history within the Grimoires, that Dracula normally can only be resurrected once every 100 years without the influence of human emotions causing irregularities[385]. Through this end he can gather the magic needed to revive through negative human emotions[386]. Repeated Resurrection, Resurrection of the Deceased; Through absorbing human blood, even on his corpse, he can come back to life[387]. The battle between Desmond Belmont and Rohan Krause was enough to revive Dracula[388]. Dracula has also shown to be able to resurrect from merely a single drop of blood hitting his body[389]. Resurrection of Multiple Targets, Resurrection of the Deceased; Dracula revived dark gods with his powers[390]), Reality Warping (Passive; Merely through transforming Dracula warped the very background of his castle[391]. Caused the entire background to become warped ad distorted[392]. Against John Morris/Eric Lecarde, completely warped the background once entering his true form[393]), Teleportation & Light Manipulation (In his fight against Simon Belmont, he freely teleported around in his first form[394]. Brings down pillars of light that he uses to teleport around[395]. Causes a beam of light to appear that he can teleport around with[396]. Dracula's death causes the light beam to come across the entire castle and teleport it away[397]. He can use his light pillar teleportation technique as a means to trick his opponent by creating several, with him only appearing out of one[398]. Teleported to Shaft after sensing a connection Anette had with the Belmont family[399]), Duplication (Can create four giant heads of his to attack with[400]. Dracula can make a figment of his magic that is a re-enactment of memories stored within his powers[401]), Empowerment (Dracula can[402] call upon[403] the Power of[404] Darkness to gain[405] a new form that[406] greatly upgrades all of his statistics[407]), Weapon Creation & Weapon Control (Dracula can create knives that he can freely control to throw at Simon[408]), Non-Standard Interaction (Dark Matter Interaction; Dracula has objects such as dark matter in his castle meaning he can interact with them, which barely interacts with ordinary matter[409]), Possession (Can put his soul within a painting and bring it to life to use as an attack[410]. Dracula can possess Devil Forgemasters to bring himself back to life, such as when he possessed Isaac to resurrect himself[411]. Dracula's remains created a second spirit within Maxim that possessed him[412] leaving Maxim's body and possessing Dracula's remains[413] spawning way to Dracula's Wraith[414]. Merely absorbing Dracula's magic corrupts one and turns them into another Dracula[415]), Statistics Amplification (Dracula's strength increases each time he revives[416]. Every 100 years[417] Dracula gets[418] stronger and stronger[419]. Noted by Richter to get stronger every reincarnation[420]), Statistics Boost (The more Dracula's hatred increases, the more the power of Chaos empowers him[421]), Statistics Reduction (It's noted that every 100 years[422] the forces of Good mysteriously become weak and the forces of Evil gain a foothold into the world[423]. One that wears Dracula's clothes will have their luck reduced[424], however it is noted by Simon that Dracula grows stronger ecah time he revives), Telekinesis (Was telekinetically lifting Simon's wife into the air with the affect breaking once he died[425]. Could telekinetically lift the blocks around in his boss fight[426]), Battlefield Removal (Forced Teleportation; Can teleport other targets, such as teleporting Simon's wife to his arms[427]. Dracula's mere fang can increase one's defenses[451]. Dracula's presence greatly powers the creatures of the night, making them stronger as time goes on[452]. Noted that Dracula can grant humans immortality, with The Order attempting to resurrect Dracula in order to receive greater power and eternal life[453]. Even while sealed and deceased, Dracula's darkness alone covered Barlowe, having his strength return to him and giving him the power to destroy his seal[454]), Fusionism (Dracula was able to fuse the abilities of a bat with those a human[455], in an alternate timeline), Creation (Dracula's evil and magic is the reason why devil forging exists, which has one create a devil[456]. Through merely the use of his remains and using Maxim's will a castle similar to Castlevania was created[457]), Corruption (Dracula used his last bit of magic to turn Soleil Belmont into a terrible demon[458]), Attack Reflection (Passive; Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[459]), Nullification (Passive {For all of them}, Curse Nullification; Dracula's mere eye has the power to negate curses[460]. Petrification Nullification; His mere heart has the power to negate petrification[461]. Poison Negation; His mere rib has the power to negate poison[462]. Sealing Nullification; The power of Dominus can completely rid seals[463]. Easily broke a seal placed by the man-beast on a creature[464]), Transmutation (Noted by Dracula that if Hector has betrayed him he would use his magic to transform him into an especially hideous demon where he shall crawl on the ground and drink sewage as a hideous monster[465]), Summoning (Dracula can summon enemies to fight for him[466]. Can shoot out 3 fire projectiles at once from his cape[485]. Can shoot out green fireballs everytime he jumps[486]. Devil Forging has one to giving it a shape and soul, giving it a shell and applying stable power to the shell so the mass of energy without conscious can be transformed into a living devil[505]), Blood Manipulation (Can spit out blood as an attack[506]. Can create spheres of blood from his attacks[507]. Causes an entire blood rain to fall, with over hundreds of droplets, where if even one hits, it will deal damage[508]), Soul Manipulation (Dracula can use soul steal, to steal one's soul, absorbing their entire existence within him[509]. Can disconnect his soul from his body[510]. God is unable to help the souls of those terminated by Dracula's hand[511]), Animal Manipulation (Can shoot bats out of his mouth[512]. Can shoot out three bats to attack[513]. Sends out bats to attack for him[514]), Mind Manipulation (Dracula put Soleil Belmont under his vampire spell[515]. The suppressed desires of Maxim Kischine caused another spirit to be created due to him holding the remains of Dracula[516]. Dracula's remains alone are enough to consume their mind, even being noted by Barlowe that dominus devours the mind[517]. Not even the sacred blood of the Belmont Clan was enough to keep Albus from subcumming to the effects of the Dominus[518]), Memory Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions[519]. Dominus was the source that took Shanoa's memories[520]. Dracula's magic showed Hector visions of his past with a form of his child self trying to convince him to become a devil and promising to be friends if he does so[521]), Empathic Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions, stripping Shanoa of all of her emotions to the point that she could not shed a tear for Albus despite everything he did for her[522]), Fear Manipulation (Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[523] an ordinary hero feel like a spineless coward[524]), Death Manipulation (Metaphysical; One attempting to use the Dominus will cost them their life, Shanoa using it nearly killed her only being saved by Albus taking her place and having his soul fade away[525]), Weather Manipulation & Electricity Manipulation (Caused dark clouds to appear and came from a bolt of lightning[526]. Cause massive electricity around the area before appearing[527]. Causes multiple lightning bolts to rain down as he appears[528]. Sent down electricity attacks against Desmond[529]. Sent out a massive electricity wave[530]. Creates massive electricity orbs from his gylphs[531]. Summoned electricity from his hand that went across a small area[532]. Electricity formed around him while he transformed into his adult state[533]. Easily pushed Cornell back with the electricity field around him[534]), Curse Manipulation (Dracula placed a curse on[535] Simon after Simon defeated him, one that could only be undone[536] by finding the five body parts of Dracula, resurrecting him and then defeating him[537], though if Simon takes too long he will die from the curse regardless of killing Dracula[538]. The Curse also weakened Simon to where he was starting off with a leather whip, which is a weaker form the whip takes for inexperienced users[539]. After being defeated by Trevor and his friends, Dracula left a demonic curse that enshrouded all of Europe in misery and torment[540], this curse keeps festering even if Dracula dies, where Hector needed to put all of his life-force and energy into dispelling the curse, greatly tiring him to the point that he was ready to die in the collapse of the Castle if Julia did not come rescue him[541]. Along with this, even with the curse being removed, the curse was far too deep within people, making its mark hard to leave them, with some characters having it where only death could erase the curse[542]), Disease Manipulation (The demonic curse caused a hideous plague and dire famine[543]), Morality Manipulation (The demonic curse had people's hearts turn black and murderous, where the weak were slain without pity[544]. The curse gave Hector an immense thirst for vegeance, attempting to make him kill Isaac so that he could possess his body[545]. Dracula can cloud one's senses in darkness, having the evil eat away at their souls[546]), Madness Manipulation (Barlowe was driven made by the power of Dominus, making him willing to give his life to resurrect Dracula[547]. Those that had evil eat away at their souls were driven to madness, having them make a pact with the devil[548]. Brauner using Dracula's power was noted by Charlotte that just the sight of him could drive an ordinary person mad[549]), Glyph Manipulation (Conjures gylphs across the ground that create explosions[550]. The gylphs also summon enemies to attack[551]), Explosion Manipulation (Creates massive explosions from his glyphs[552]. Can shoot out explosive projectiles from his lower mouth[553]), Bone Manipulation (Throws out bones to attack with in his true form during his fight against John Morris/Eric Lecarde[554]), Water Manipulation (Creates giant water bubbles that attack the target[555]), Hell Manipulation (Passive; Dracula's existence is the reason why evil around the land is called, with him being defeated, the evil vanishes[556]), Time Manipulation (Passive; Dracula's existence and magic was destabilizing the flow of time[557]. Shanoa with the dominus is using a power of Dracula's[558], where Aeon notes that power is governed by time[559]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[560], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[561]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[562], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[563] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to strengthen their dark powers greatly[564], along with their vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[565], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[566], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[567], where if the contents of the book change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[568]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[569]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[570], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[571]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[572]), Law Manipulation (Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[573], which alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[574]), Power Modification (Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[575], which the vital souls cause alterations of the Grimoire that can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger than them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[576]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[577]).

Resistance to Extreme Heats (Unaffected by moving so fast he catches on fire[578]), Extrasensory Perception (Dark Lords are incapable of being sensed by the likes of Death[579]), Attack Reflection (His reincarnation can attack and harm Graham Jones, where he's absorbed the power of the castle, and inherited Dracula's powers[580], where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[581]), Darkness Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (Dracula has a natural resistance to the darkness element[582]. Dracula's mere ribs protects from the powers of wickedness[583]), Holy Fire Manipulation (Can take holy water hitting him, with it only momentarily having him cry out in pain, before emerging just fine[584]), Curse Manipulation (Dracula's mere heart clears curses[585]), Time Manipulation (Noted that the stop watch has no effect on moving platforms in the castle and most bosses[586]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[587], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[588]), Sealing (Dracula's power allowed Soma to easily repel away a multi-layered seal called aurora a multilayered rectangular barrier ritual that was supposed to isolate Soma and then remove Dracula's powers from him[589]. Even while greatly weakened, when the Aurora was used on Dracula, he greatly resisted it, requiring two master magicians to affect him[590]. Dracula's power is so great that very few magical items can truly hold his magic within a seal, requiring the usage of an entire library worth of grimoires in order to truly seal away just his magic alone[591]. The only reason Brauner was able to seal away Dracula was due to him not reviving completely otherwise his seals would be easily broken by Dracula's power[592]), Fire Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to fire based attacks[593]), Electricity Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to thunder based attacks[594]), Poison Manipulation (Dracula is naturally immune to poison based attacks[595]), Spatial Manipulation (Brauner using Dracula's power spatially segregated Dracula from the castle[596]), Power Modification, Information Manipulation, Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Dracula's magic and powers have no limits posed on it from the grimoires where heroes summoned from the catalogue are unable to stray too far from its contents and have limited actions they can do having summoned heroes have their powers greatly limited from their true strength[597]), Fate Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Death serves Dracula with unfailing loyalty[598], where Death is noted to govern the fate of death[599], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[600], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[601]. Death decides who lives and who dies[602]), Immortality Negation (The Vampire Killer is unable to strip Dracula of his immortality whereas the Vampire Killer can render immortal skeleton death gods like Death, mortal, having him bleed from attacks, giving him mortality as shown when Death dies to his own scythe cutting off his head and having blood spurt out, something not possible as a skeleton[603], and can kill Death to the point that he requires Mathias to survive in order for him to rise from the dead[604])

The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[640]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[641]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[687]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[688], compared to the like of Brauner's painting worlds that are quantum multi-layered spaces requiring understandings of theories such as "Curse Amplification"[689]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[695]).

Resistance to Time Stop (Areas in the Castle are unaffected by time being stopped, and blocks and objects will still fall[696]. Bat

The Bat Familiar will attack enemies, and as Alucard levels up the Bat’s attack will become stronger. Also when Alucard morphs into a Bat, another Bat will show up after you level up, and eventually Alucard will have several Bats following him around when he morphs. The Bat Familiars will also shoot a fireball when the Alucard morphed bat shoots one.

To obtain the Bat Familiar you need the Bat Card, located in the Alchemy Laboratory.

Demon

The Demon Familiar pushes buttons in walls that Alucard cannot reach, which will open up new areas in the Abandoned Mine and Cave. As you level up the Demon will be equipped with Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Lightning Spears.

To obtain the Demon Familiar you need the Demon Card, located in the Abandoned Mine.

Faerie

The primary use of the Faerie Familiar is for healing, but she also points out entrances to hidden rooms, and gives Alucard advice on getting through certain difficult areas of the castle. She will help Alucard when poisoned or turned to stone.

To obtain the Faerie Familiar you need the Faerie Card, located in the Long Library.

Ghost

The Ghost Familiar will aggravate and hold back enemies, and will help out more when leveling up. After it gets stronger it has the ability to Soul Steal, and also can drain enemies HP and give the HP to Alucard.

To obtain the Ghost Familiar you need the Ghost Card, located in the Castle Keep.

Sword

The strongest of the group, the Sword Familiar can provide powerful attacks but is rather slow at first. When reaching level 50 it can be used as a weapon.

To obtain the Sword Familiar you need the Sword Card, located in Olrox’s Quarters.

Notable Techniques

  • Blood Draining: Vampires can bite and drink the blood of their victims. Blood acts as a source of energy and life for vampires and creatures of the night, an example of this being Red Skeletons who endlessly[869] regenerate[870], from any kind[871] of damage due to it absorbing blood[872].
  • Transformation: Vampires are able to turn into bats, wolves, fog, and other sorts of creatures as they please.
  • Super Strength: Vampires are incredibly superhumanly strong, even for the average creature of the night, being noted to be stronger than even Werewolves.
  • Super Speed: Vampires can move incredibly fast, to where all of them leave behind light projections due to how fast they're moving, while they can control their speeds even to approach speeds such as sound. They are normally beyond even other creatures in the castle such as the White Demon who moves at the speed of light at top speed.

Neutral Combo

B + B + B + B + B

Alucard begins his combo with a fast horizontal sword swipe from left to right, then quickly follows with an upward diagonal swing to the left. He then performs another horizontal strike to the right, then jumps into the air while swinging his sword upward in a vertical motion. The combo ends with a swift downward slash aimed at the enemy below.

Directional Combo

Left Stick + B + B + B

Alucard swings his sword in a wide, sweeping motion from one side to the other, making sure to cover a large area. He then leaps high into the air and swings his sword upward, delivering a powerful strike that knocks any enemy in the way. As he descends, he swings his sword in a wide overhead arc, delivering a final blow to any enemies below him as he lands.

Jumping Attack

Jump + B

While leaping through the air, Alucard swings his sword in a graceful upward arc. He begins the motion from behind his body, moving it forward and upward, before finishing the strike above him. This allows Alucard to strike enemies both in front of him and overhead.

Dodge

Summon Spirit

A + B

Alucard summons a dark, purplish-black spirit from his hand, which arcs gracefully upward toward his target. The spirit seeks out any nearby enemies, striking them with its ethereal force.

Tetra Spirit

Charge A + B

Alucard plants his hand firmly on the ground and shouts either "Devour them!" or "Take this!" He calls forth four spirits from the earth that stay close to the ground, awaiting to lock onto a nearby enemy. Once locked on, the spirits rush toward the target, dealing damage as they go. If Alucard is airborne during the casting, the spirits appear in front of him, hovering until they detect a nearby enemy, at which point they will move toward the target.

Wing Smash

Left Stick + A + B

With a commanding shout of "No escape!", Alucard sprouts bat wings and swiftly glides forward. During this high-speed glide, he swings his sword powerfully, knocking any enemy in his path to the ground with a single, devastating strike.

Dark Lightning

Right Trigger + A + B

While suspended in the air, Alucard summons dark lightning that strikes downward from his position. The dark lightning arcs toward the enemy’s location on the ground, dealing massive electrical damage upon impact.

Summon Sword Familiar

A + B

Alucard summons a magic circle beneath a nearby target, from which a sword familiar emerges. The familiar rises from below, attacking its target with swift sword strikes from beneath, dealing significant damage as it continues its assault.

Form of Mist

Alucard transforms his body into mist, becoming intangible. As mist, he is able to glide in the direction the analog pad is facing. If the analog pad is left neutral, Alucard will move toward the opposite side of his opponent, allowing him to quickly reposition or pass through obstacles.

Infernal Blade

X

Alucard cries out "Now!" and performs a powerful Wing Smash, sending his opponent soaring. If the strike lands successfully, Alucard transports the enemy to another dimension. He plants his sword into the ground, igniting it in flames. His wings grow massive as he charges at the opponent, striking them with his fiery sword, sending them flying upward. As Alucard backflips in the air, he launches himself from a magical circle and charges downward with another fierce attack. With a final, powerful strike, he declares, "It's over!" and his opponent is engulfed in flames. As Alucard lands, he says "Burn away!" as the opponent is consumed by fire.

Other

Standard Tactics: Alucard has notably utilized various weapons in combat that best suit the situation along with notably using Soul Steal against multiple targets at once, even in his suppressed Genya Arikado form. Along with this Alucard has a variety of different items, attack items, sub-weapons, and magic he uses that best suit the situation.

Weaknesses

Note

Trivia

  • The name "Alucard" is "Dracula" spelled backward, which is likely an analogy for being Dracula's rebel son.
  • The name "Alucard" originates from the 1943 Universal horror film Son of Dracula. In the film, Count Alucard initially poses as Dracula's son, although it is later revealed to be Dracula himself. Despite later employments of the name being used to avoid notice, in this film, every character he meets immediately deduces the connection, but still believe his claim of being Dracula's son.
  • Țepeș is not actually a surname, but rather an epithet meaning "impaler" (as in "Vlad the Impaler"). Nonetheless, it is treated as Alucard's surname.
  • Originally, in the Japanese version of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Alucard was a vampire, due to his father selling his soul to the Devil in order to gain more power.[895] However, this was later retconned with Symphony of the Night's addition of Lisa to the storyline, making Alucard into a dhampir from birth.
  • In the Japanese version of Symphony of the Night, when telling his father what Lisa's last words were, Alucard states them in a manner indicating he was holding back tears from recalling them.
  • According to Koji Igarashi, Alucard can use holy sub-weapons without harm because Lisa was a descendant of a "holy bloodline".
  • According to Tōru Hagihara, Alucard was supposed to have an "alignment system" in Symphony of the Night. Using the sub-weapons a lot would have given him a holy alignment, and using magic a lot would have given him a dark alignment.
  • Alucard's quote in the American version of Symphony of the Night, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing", comes from the Irish philosopher Edmund Burke.
  • In Dawn of Sorrow, when playing as Alucard in Julius Mode, he does not project his reflection on mirrors as the other characters do. This is in reference to the legend that says that vampires don't reflect their image on mirrors. However, some sources state that dhampirs, unlike vampires, indeed cast their reflection on mirrors and other reflective surfaces.
    • This is particularly the case in the animated series. In the "Shadow Battles" episode, when Alucard contemplates skulls of vampires behind a showcase, his reflection can be seen.
  • Alucard's voice actor in the Japanese version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ryōtarō Okiayu, also voiced Trevor Belmont in the animated series.
  • Although Sephiroth facing Dracula in his Classic Mode path in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was overall a reference to their respective status as final bosses in their games, it ironically enough also resembles how Alucard faced off against Dracula in both Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and Symphony of the Night.
  • "有角" literally means "having horns", possibly clues in to Alucard's dark heritage. "幻", which may refer to "mirage" or "illusion", could mean that this identity is just a facade. Also, "Arikado" is a pun that sounds like Alucard through Japanese pronunciation (Arukādo).
  • In the opening of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Arikado can be seen destroying multiple enemies with a magical attack. This is presumably Alucard's Soul Steal spell.
  • While under this persona, Arikado's hair is black. This is most likely the work of his magic power, as when playing Julius Mode in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which takes place soon after Soma embraces the role of Dark Lord, Alucard is encountered with his usual blond/platinum hair.
  • Genya Arikado is alluded to in Alucard's ending in Castlevania Judgment.
  • Based on his first meeting with her in Grimoire of Souls, Genya Arikado had not even been aware of Charlotte Aulin's existence until Lucy Westenra summoned her.
  • Castlevania Legends takes place in an alternate universe, different to the main Castlevania timeline.

  180. WN: Last question. Why does Dracula keep putting meat inside the walls of his castle?

KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
The meat, I have no idea.

  270. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
    “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
    Kill the distance-----
    Kill the sound-----
    Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
    “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

The youth had more than 28 holes penetrating his limbs and body. His heart is already starting to fail and he is desperately trying to say something amidst the darkness.
    “Only…… protect…… you……-----“
When he said those words he must say, the man’s soul already left his body-----becoming one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle.
    However-----
    Fate did not allow it.
For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul."

There was definitely no room for doubt. It is certain that the [castle] exists at the back of the mountains. The church’s greatest vampire hunter, Julius Belmont must be contacted. However, the conversation jumped into the matter of the disappearance of several village children."
  651. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "A drawbridge suspended from the main gate is seemingly welcoming Michelle’s arrival.

That really is no doubt an obsession.
