We have risked our lives and fought for the sake of God... But God mercilessly stole away the one I love most... When all I ever wished for was Elisabetha's safety!! If limited life is God's decree, then I shall defy it!! And within that eternity, I shall curse Him forevermore!
~ Mathias Cronqvist to Leon Belmont

The powerful always judge the weak. The humans made their judgement of me, as well. Thus I sentenced them... to extinction. Sympathy is merely a form of weakness. You betrayed me, Hector... And for that, the punishment is death.
~ Count Dracula to Hector

Welcome, welcome! It's been many years since I've seen the face of a Belmont. Please excuse my appearance. I was not prepared to be woken from my slumber. Something wrong, nothing to say? No matter. Maybe I should thank you for helping Rohan compelte the sacrifice and return me to the world of the living. It matters not. But don't you know I'm ehre thanks to your work with Krause? Perhaps I've said too much. Well, it will not matter.. Not after I've consumed your life force.

I am eternal, neither you nor any of your descendants will ever defeat me.
~ Count Dracula to Desmond Belmont

Background

Count Dracula, formerly known as Mathias Cronqvist, is the main overarching antagonist of the Castlevania series, appearing in every title to date. Once a simple tactician, Mathias lost his beloved, Elisabetha, which fueled his hatred into becoming the immortal vampire Dracula. For the next several hundred years, Dracula would lead attacks on humanity, while being fought off by the Belmont Clan of Vampire Hunters.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Count Dracula’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Mathias Cronqvist, born in 1062, was a member of the legendary Cronqvist family. Born in a time where the world was lacking in education, the Cronqvist family stood out as a beacon of incredible knowledge; the family orally passed down teachings of alchemy and magic, which eventually ended up in Mathias’ hands. Mathias, possibly the smartest and most prodigious of his family, wrote down these teachings in a notebook and studied them for years.

Years passed and Mathias quickly became friends with a young knight named Leon Belmont. With Mathias fighting for the church as a master tactician, and Leon fighting as an unrivaled swordsman, they made their company of knights nigh-invincible. However, one fateful day, Mathias received news that his wife, Elisabetha, died from illness. Horribly wounded by this news, Mathias headed home and was bedridden.

During his time alone and suffering from horrible grief, Mathias’ mind began to twist. Realizing that all he ever prayed for during his expeditions was Elisabetha’s continued safety, he grew to develop a deep hatred of God for taking away the only thing he ever asked to keep safe. Using his immense intelligence that surpassed nearly everyone on Earth, Mathias devised a master plan.

Losing all ties to his friends, blinded by his grief and anger towards God, Mathias used everyone he needed to use in order to realize his goals; he used Leon Belmont, Leon’s betrothed Sara Trantoul, the alchemist Rinaldo Gandolfi, and even the vampire king Walter Bernhard, to finally obtain a powerful relic known as the Crimson Stone. The Crimson Stone was a godly relic written about in alchemic text, which Mathias had studied and finally obtained.

Absorbing Walter’s vampiric soul into the Stone, and then absorbing the stone itself, Mathias’ power grew immensely; not only did he gain vampiric powers from Walter’s soul, but also eternal life, which he would use to spite God’s decree of mortals having limited life. Furthermore, because he was the embodiment of everything that opposed God’s order and law, Mathias’ power source became the primordial entity, Chaos. And, due to becoming the King of the Crimson Stone and the Dark Lord, the entity known as Death became subservient to him.

Although Leon knew he had to defeat Mathias, the vampire quickly escaped and left Death to deal with his old friend. From that day on, Mathias had kickstarted a blood feud between him and his former brother-in-arms; and the Belmont Clan would go on to hunt Mathias for the next several centuries.

Eventually, as Mathias continued to plague the lands as the Dark Lord, he went to change his name to Dracula Vlad Ţepeş; widely known to the public as Count Dracula. He continued his hatred of God as a bitter, immortal man, until one day he came across a woman known as Lisa. Dracula was shocked by how much Lisa fully accepted him, and how much she bore resemblance to his former wife, Elisabetha.

Slowly but surely, Dracula warmed up to Lisa and let her into his life, and the two got married. They bore a child together who possessed the powers of a vampire but the heart of a human, named Adrian Fahrenheit Ţepeş. Their family lived very happily for a time, until the church caught on to Lisa’s marriage to the Dark Lord. Lisa was quickly taken and crucified in front of her son, Adrian, though Dracula was away at the time.

However, when Dracula eventually found out about her murder, he was infuriated. Yet another wife, another person he let into his life and fully loved, taken away from him. Unstoppably infuriated, Dracula turned his hatred from not only being on God, to humanity as a whole. This is what truly sparked Count Dracula’s war on humanity.

Because of this war, the Belmont Clan was alerted and rushed to the Transylvanian countryside to finally take out Dracula. Trevor Belmont, teaming with several other powerful warriors (including Dracula’s son, who now went by Alucard,) confronted Count Dracula and was the first one to slay him.

Dracula was killed, but this would only be the first of many times. For the next five hundred or so years, the Dark Lord would be resurrected and slayed by vampire hunters time and time again.

Malus is the reincarnation of the Dark Lord, Count Dracula. In the year 1844, when Dracula was facing off against the man-beast, Cornell, Dracula forced Cornell to shed his beast form in order to rescue his adoptive sister, Ada. Thanks to this, Count Dracula was able to snatch Cornell’s man-beast powers, and died with them after Cornell struck him down.

After Dracula’s death, his servants were able to recover Cornell’s man-beast powers that he had snatched, and used those powers to ensure that Dracula would reincarnate into a new body. Sure enough, a young boy with blue hair was born to a couple in a forest cabin under a blood moon; Malus.

By the time Malus turned eight years old, he realized that he was Dracula reincarnated, but knew that he could not recover his full power and form, lest he reveal his presence to vampire hunters before he is ready. Because of this, Malus lamented that someone of his power had to have gone through childhood again.

Eventually, Dracula’s servants began kidnapping children and bringing them to Dracula’s Castle, as it was prophesied that the child Dark Lord would reveal himself in the castle. This included Malus, who saw the opportunity as a way to lure in vampire hunters and deceive them.

Eventually, his plans come to fruition, as the church sends in vampire hunters like Henry Oldrey and Reinhardt Schneider, along with the young Carrie Fernandez, to rescue these children and destroy the castle. Reinhardt and Carrie in particular come in contact with Malus, who he successfully deceives into growing closer with him.

However, after Reinhardt and Carrie destroy who they believe to be Count Dracula, Malus reveals himself by shooting at them with a bow & arrow, from atop a dark pegasus. Reinhardt and Carrie are both shocked as Malus is finally able to reveal his true identity, and ages himself into an adult form that can contain his full powers.

Malus and the vampire hunters face off in a legendary battle, with Malus even transporting them to an alternate realm and taking the form of a horrid dragon-like beast in order to stop them. However, Malus was unsuccessful in the battle, and was struck down. At last, the Dark Lord was defeated once more.

Eventually, the day came in 1999, when Dracula was revived at his peak of strength. A massive war began, between Dracula’s forces and the armies of mankind. Spearheading the charge on the side of mortals was Julius Belmont; a distant descendant of Mathias’ old friend, Leon.

Julius reached Dracula and finally slayed the Dark Lord for good, sealing him away in the lunar eclipse, along with the Belmont Clan’s legendary weapon, the Vampire Killer whip; the Vampire Killer being sealed alongside Dracula’s soul would serve as a magical seal, keeping him away for the rest of time.

For the first time in the past 900 years, Dracula was dead with no way to resurrect himself. As a result, with no other option, Dracula and his powers were reincarnated into a new body completely unaware of his past. This new body was that of a Japanese high-schooler named Soma Cruz, who would spend the majority of his teen years trying to suppress Dracula’s dark powers from taking control of him.

However, Soma would finally find the source of Dracula’s power in the Chaotic Realm, with the entity known as Chaos. Directly challenging it and taking it out, Soma finally ended the source of the Dark Lord’s power, and the book closed on a long saga of hatred and grief.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics (Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[241], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[242]), Intimidation (Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[243]), Immortality (Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something being their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[244]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[261]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to greatly strengthen their dark powers[262]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[263]. Thier vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[264], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[265], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[266], where if the books contents change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[267]. Along with this Dario can use fire to teleport[521]), Holy Manipulation (Can use Demonic Megiddo[522], which contains holy power[523]), Crystal Manipulation (Can cause various crystals to come out of the ground to attack his foes[524]), Vacuum Manipulation (Can create a strong vacuum to pull one in so he can bite them[525]), Matter Manipulation & Metaphysics Manipulation (Dracula's evil and magic is the reason why devil forging exists[526], with the mere remnants of his magic being so strong Hector can use them to create an Innocent Devil[527]. Devil Forging has one to giving it a shape and soul, giving it a shell and applying stable power to the shell so the mass of energy without conscious can be transformed into a living devil[528]), Blood Manipulation (Can spit out blood as an attack[529]. Can create spheres of blood from his attacks[530]. Causes an entire blood rain to fall, with over hundreds of droplets, where if even one hits, it will deal damage[531]), Soul Manipulation (Dracula can use soul steal, to steal one's soul, absorbing their entire existence within him[532]. Can disconnect his soul from his body[533]. God is unable to help the souls of those terminated by Dracula's hand[534]), Animal Manipulation (Can shoot bats out of his mouth[535]. Can shoot out three bats to attack[536]. Sends out bats to attack for him[537]), Mind Manipulation (Dracula put Soleil Belmont under his vampire spell[538]. The suppressed desires of Maxim Kischine caused another spirit to be created due to him holding the remains of Dracula[539]. Dracula's remains alone are enough to consume their mind, even being noted by Barlowe that dominus devours the mind[540]. Not even the sacred blood of the Belmont Clan was enough to keep Albus from subcumming to the effects of the Dominus[541]), Memory Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions[542]. Dominus was the source that took Shanoa's memories[543]. Dracula's magic showed Hector visions of his past with a form of his child self trying to convince him to become a devil and promising to be friends if he does so[544]), Empathic Manipulation (Accepting the Dominus interferes with one's memories and emotions, stripping Shanoa of all of her emotions to the point that she could not shed a tear for Albus despite everything he did for her[545]), Fear Manipulation (Dracula's mere rib bone is enough to make[546] an oridnary hero feel like a spineless coward[547]), Death Manipulation (Metaphysical; One attempting to use the Dominus will cost them their life, Shanoa using it nearly killed her only being saved by Albus taking her place and having his soul fade away[548]), Weather Manipulation & Electricity Manipulation (Caused dark clouds to appear and came from a bolt of lightning[549]. Cause massive electricity around the area before appearing[550]. Causes multiple lightning bolts to rain down as he appears[551]. Sent down electricity attacks against Desmond[552]. Sent out a massive electricity wave[553]. Creates massive electricity orbs from his gylphs[554]. Summoned electricity from his hand that went across a small area[555]. Electricity formed around him while he transformed into his adult state[556]. Easily pushed Cornell back with the electricity field around him[557]), Curse Manipulation (Dracula placed a curse on[558] Simon after Simon defeated him, one that could only be undone[559] by finding the five body parts of Dracula, resurrecting him and then defeating him[560], though if Simon takes too long he will die from the curse regardless of killing Dracula[561]. The Curse also weakened Simon to where he was starting off with a leather whip, which is a weaker form the whip takes for inexperienced users[562]. After being defeated by Trevor and his friends, Dracula left a demonic curse that enshrouded all of Europe in misery and torment[563], this curse keeps festering even if Dracula dies, where Hector needed to put all of his life-force and energy into dispelling the curse, greatly tiring him to the point that he was ready to die in the collapse of the Castle if Julia did not come rescue him[564]. Along with this, even with the curse being removed, the curse was far too deep within people, making its mark hard to leave them, with some characters having it where only death could erase the curse[565]), Disease Manipulation (The demonic curse caused a hideous plague and dire famine[566]), Morality Manipulation (The demonic curse had people's hearts turn black and murderous, where the weak were slain without pity[567]. The curse gave Hector an immense thirst for vegeance, attempting to make him kill Issac so that he could possess his body[568]. Dracula can cloud one's senses in darkness, having the evil eat away at their souls[569]), Madness Manipulation (Barlowe was driven made by the power of Dominus, making him willing to give his life to resurrect Dracula[570]. Those that had evil eat away at their souls were driven to madness, having them make a pact with the devil[571]. Brauner using Dracula's power was noted by Charlotte that just the sight of him could drive an ordinary person mad[572]), Glyph Manipulation (Conjures gylphs across the ground that create explosions[573]. The gylphs also summon enemies to attack[574]), Explosion Manipulation (Creates massive explosions from his glyphs[575]. Can shoot out explosive projectiles from his lower mouth[576]), Bone Manipulation (Throws out bones to attack with in his true form during his fight against John Morris/Eric Lecarde[577]), Water Manipulation (Creates giant water bubbles that attack the target[578]), Hell Manipulation (Passive; Dracula's existence is the reason why evil around the land is called, with him being defeated, the evil vanishes[579]), Time Manipulation (Passive; Dracula's existence and magic was destabilizing the flow of time[580]. Shanoa with the dominus is using a power of Dracula's[581], where Aeon notes that power is governed by time[582]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[583], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[584]), Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Passive; Vital Souls are all just a part of Dracula's powers[585], where is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[586] where creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to greatly strengthen their dark powers[587], along with thier vital souls causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[588], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[589], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[590], where if the books contents change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[591]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[592]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[593]. Death was going to use Dracula's magic to rewrite Dracula's defeat to Trevor making it where Dracula defeats Trevor Belmont instead where Dracula would go on living in the rewritten grimoire with each grimoire being its own world and the grimoires influence extends into reality[594]).

Resistance to Extreme Heats (Unaffected by moving so fast he catches on fire[595]), Extrasensory Perception (Dark Lords are incapable of being sensed by the likes of Death[596]), Attack Reflection (His reincarnation can attack and harm Graham Jones, where he's absorbed the power of the castle, and inherited Dracula's powers[597], where Dracula's mere rib bone reflects all projectiles back[598]), Darkness Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (Dracula has a natural resistance to the darkness element[599]. Dracula's mere ribs protects from the powers of wickedness[600]), Holy Fire Manipulation (Can take holy water hitting him, with it only momentarily having him cry out in pain, before emerging just fine[601]), Curse Manipulation (Dracula's mere heart clears curses[602]), Time Manipulation (Noted that the stop watch has no effect on moving platforms in the castle and most bosses[603]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[604], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[605]), Sealing (Dracula's power allowed Soma to easily repel away a multi-layered seal called aurora a multilayered rectangular barrier ritual that was supposed to isolate Soma and then remove Dracula's powers from him[606]. Even while greatly weakened, when the Aurora was used on Dracula, he greatly resisted it, requiring two master magicians to affect him[607]. Dracula's power is so great that very few magical items can truly hold his magic within a seal, requiring the usage of an entire library worth of grimoires in order to truly seal away just his magic alone[608]. The only reason Brauner was able to seal away Dracula was due to him not reviving completely otherwise his seals would be easily broken by Dracula's power[609]), Fire Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to fire based attacks[610]), Electricity Manipulation (Dracula is naturally strongly resistant to thunder based attacks[611]), Poison Manipulation (Dracula is naturally immune to poison based attacks[612]), Spatial Manipulation (Brauner using Dracula's power spatially segregated Dracula from the castle[613]), Power Modification, Information Manipulation, Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation (Dracula's magic and powers have no limits posed on it from the grimoires where heroes summoned from the catalogue are unable to stray too far from its contents and have limited actions they can do having summoned heroes have their powers greatly limited from their true strength[614]), Fate Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Death serves Dracula with unfailing loyalty[615], where Death is noted to govern the fate of death[616], being noted to have the power to govern the end of all living things[617], and can use his scythes to kill abstractions such as distance and sound[618]), Immortality Negation (The Vampire Killer is unable to strip Dracula of his immortality whereas the Vampire Killer can render immortal skeleton death gods like Death, mortal, having him bleed from attacks, giving him mortality as shown when Death dies to his own scythe cutting off his head and having blood spurt out, something not possible as a skeleton[619], and can kill Death to the point that he requires Mathias to survive in order for him to rise from the dead[620]), Power Mimicry (One who copies the Power of Dominance requires their soul to withstand the power that it holds, being unable to control it and having the demons under their dominance come out of them[621])
Resistance to Dracula's Castle's Abilities (His reincarnation is unaffected by the effects Dracula's castle[622]). The Castle has doors sealed off without solving puzzles[628]. This can extend to walls being sealed off where explosions will not effect it until the seal is gone[629]), Mind Manipulation (Everything that enters the castle is under the control by the power of Dracula's castle[630], the ghost of Eric Lecarde needed to cast a magic barrier to bind himself so he could be free from the control of the castle[631]. The Castle corrupts the minds of those who enter it, such as making Maxim Kischine feel strange ever since coming to it[632]. It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[633]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[634]. The magic of Dracula's power that empowers the owl enemy also spurs it to violence[635]), Madness Manipulation (The Castle warped Gergoth, a once-gentle beast and drove it mad[636]), Size Manipulation (Magically enlarged a toad through the use of demonic baptism[637]), Fear Manipulation (Even while far away, Curtis and Michelle felt malicious intent from the castle where their bodies seemed to squeal "run away"[638]. Michelle even being at the entrance to the castle had her body telling her to not go in and her leg muscles being petrified like stone[639]), Curse Manipulation (The Curse status that spirits inflict[640] comes from them absorbing the magic power around the castle. The Castle cursed a human to turn into a lizard man[641]), Life Manipulation (The castle can bring inanimate statues to life to attack[642]. Can cause the glass murals to come to life and attack[643]), Soul Manipulation (Those that die in the castle become one of the floating spirits that wander the halls of the castle for eternity[644]), Abstract Manipulation & Hell Manipulation (The castle can create a core of evil made from hatred, envy, anger and other dark emotions[645])

It also corrupted the mind of Hugh turning him against Nathan with Nathan noting he's being controlled by Dracula[683]. The castle increases one's dark desires, allowing Dracula to easily control them[684]. Equipment

  • Castlevania: Being the true master of the Demon Castle and having a connection with Chaos, Dracula's resurrection allows the castle to appear anywhere and anytime he desires. As long as Chaos exists, the castle cannot be destroyed.
  • Chaotic Realm: The Chaotic Realm is the source of darkness and only Dracula can enter this specific dimension. Dracula and his reincarnation, Soma Cruz, are the only ones recorded to have ever entered the Chaotic Realm. This realm also sports demons of various kinds that will bow to Dracula's will.
  • Crimson Stone: The Crimson Stone is one of the two items that were an accidental biproduct of attempts to create the Philosopher's Stone, this item gives Dracula power over Death, with Death having complete allegiance to Dracula.
  • Ebony Stone: The stone originally wielded by Walter, it allows one invulnerability, making one unable to be harmed by any attack. The only such weapon shown capable of stopping this, is the Vampire Killer.

  • Violin: A violin that Malus possesses, which he plays in the opening of the game.
  • Crimson Stone: A legendary alchemic stone that grants eternal life and incredible power, at the cost of also inflicting the one who possesses it with vampirism.
  • Satan's Ring: A ring that Dracula used to wear until his final death, which was then found and worn by Soma Cruz.
  • Dracula’s Rib: The rib bone of Count Dracula, which will deflect projectiles from enemies and prevent Dracula from being poisoned.
  • Dracula’s Heart: The heart of Count Dracula, which prevents him from being petrified.
  • Dracula’s Eye: The eye of Count Dracula, which allows Dracula to see past illusions such as fake blocks. It also prevents him from being inflicted by a curse.
  • Dracula’s Nail: The nail of Count Dracula, it grants Dracula strength to break blocks he usually couldn’t. It also increases his strength.
  • Dracula’s Ring: A ring worn by Count Dracula, the final item needed to grant access into Dracula’s Castle. It also increases his luck.
  • Dracula’s Fang: Count Dracula's fang, which increases Dracula's defense.

Notable Technqiues

  • Blood Draining: Vampires can bite and drink the blood of their victims. Blood acts as a source of energy and life for vampires and reatures of the night, an example of this being Red Skeletons who endlessly[954] regenerate[955], from any kind[956] of damage due to it absorbing blood[957].
  • Transformation: Vampires are able to turn into bats, wolves, fog, and other sorts of creatures as they please.
  • Super Strength: Vampires are incredibly superhumanely strong, even ofr the average creature of the night, being noted to be stronger then even Werewolves.
  • Super Speed: Vampires can move incredibly fast, to where all of them leave behind light projections due to how fast they're moving, while they can control their speeds to even approach speeds such as sound. They are normally beyond even other creatures in the castle such as the White Demon who moves at the speed of light at top speed.

  • Power of Dominance: Dracula's primary ability allows him to absorb defeated monster's souls and enslave them. This power was the one that Soma Cruz, Dracula's incarnation, inherited along with Dracula's soul. While Soma can only summon monsters for a short amount of time due to his low magical power, Dracula can fully utilize this ability with infinite power from the stream of Chaos he commands.
  • Obedient Creatures: Creatures of the night are sensitive to the flow of darkness and are attracted to its source. Those attracted will not hesitate to serve the commander of darkness. Some of these creatures are bats, wolves, owls, slimes, ravens, crows, black panthers, worms, caterpillars, toads, frogs, and many other smaller but numerous creatures that have entered and lived at some point under the Dark Lord's presence.
  • Power over Humanity: Dracula's power has been shown to have an effect on human behavior. Dracula's Curse, in fact, drove many humans insane, and sent them into a murderous rage. Dracula has also shown abilities to control humans without possessing them, for example, in Harmony of Despair, his charm spell, when making contact with a female, would temporarily strip them of their will and put them under his control.
  • Dark Magic Mastery: From his earlier life as Mathias Cronqvist, Dracula mastered various dark arts, especially alchemy, which he studied to a unique depth. His spell arsenal includes:
    • Hellfire: A spell that releases a barrage of fireballs from his cloak; an alternate form summons flames erupting from the ground.
    • Dark Inferno: Magma-like fireballs cast from his cloak; unlike Hellfire, these meteors are indestructible.
    • Dark Metamorphosis: A spell that amplifies Dracula's blood-draining abilities, allowing him to draw life force from a simple touch.
    • Soul Steal: A spell that many fear. Soul Steal is used by Dracula to kill and absorb their energy for Dracula's use. One version of the spell has an area of effect around the caster. It can affect multiple victims multiple times in one cast. Another version drains the life out of Dracula's victims by mere touch, which is why many fear this spell. It is also referred to as Life Steal. In rare cases, namely when he has to use Soul Steal or the Power of Dominance to assume his true form due to not being at full power via a fresh revival, he also incorporates elements of the soul he absorbed (for instance, when transforming via absorbing Death, he incorporates traits of Death into his form, such as armored growths that resemble bones).
    • Blood Storm: Perhaps as a way of mocking the Belmonts' powers, Dracula, when facing Richter Belmont, could make it rain blood, and being caught in it causes heavy damage.
    • Dominus Hatred / Fatal Ray: Dracula summons seven green rays of dark energy that fly upward from his body. After a moment, the rays fall, covering the entire area although leaving some spaces between where the player can dodge them. He uses this attack in various games, including Castlevania Chronicles and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and is commonly used by his true form, although its most prominent appearance is in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.
    • Destruction Ray: A dire version of the Fatal Ray. Dracula summons seven purple rays of dark energy that fly upward from his body, but this time they fall following the player's movement.
    • Demonic Megiddo: Dracula's ultimate dark spell. Two versions of this attack exist. The first, and more common version has a shorter charging time and allows Dracula to charge demonic runes that become a giant black fireball. Dracula can throw it at his victim and will incinerate them with demonic fire. The second version is a gigantic explosion, with Dracula as its nucleus. The explosion radiates from him, dealing heavy damage with a high likelihood of killing his opponent. However, the second version requires a longer time to charge, giving enough time to either escape or defeat him before he can use it while draining Dracula's health. In Order of Ecclesia, it is shown that Dracula can sustain it for as long as he desires, while in Harmony of Despair, its effect is shown to cease.
  • Command Over Death: By wielding the Crimson Stone, Dracula gained the complete loyalty of Death, who remains his closest confidant and ally. Together, they can perform combined attacks in Portrait of Ruin, including:
    • Flame Sickle: Death summons scythes that Dracula transforms into meteors, much like those in Dark Inferno.
    • Demonic Megiddo (Scythe Version): Death assists by transforming his scythe, allowing Dracula to create a smaller, quicker Demonic Megiddo attack.
    • True Dracula's Scythes: If Death is defeated, he can be absorbed by Dracula, allowing him to transform into his True Form. One of True Dracula’s attacks then involves hurling Death’s Scythe at opponents.

Other

Standard Tactics: Dracula normally does not fight himself but instead has one journey and navigate throughout the entire castle as he sits in the throne room building strength, if the person is able to succeed in this, he will then fight them himself, whcih will result in him teleporting around and using various different energy projectiles, whether Curtain Fire or homing projectiles. If the opponent is too strong, he will call upon the powers of Chaos to gain a far stronger form in order to deal with the threat at hand, warping and breaking down reality in the process.

Weaknesses

Note

Trivia

Comparison of Dracula's final form in Bloodlines and Lucifer in the Livre de la Vigne Nostre Signeur.
  • His final form in Castlevania: Bloodlines shows him with a second mouth on his stomach. This could be inspired by some Medieval depictions of the Devil, showing him eating damned souls and spitting them out through his second mouth.
    • His sprite in the game particularly resembles the piece "Lucifer Waiting for the Last Judgment" from Livre de la Vigne Nostre Signeur (c. 1450-1470). Apart from having a secondary face/mouth on the stomach area, he also has two additional smaller faces on his shoulders, and the characteristic pose of his legs is nearly identical to the artwork.
    • On this note, it's worth mentioning that Dracula's title, Maō (魔王, "Demon King") has sometimes been translated as "Satan" in some games, based on some Japanese Bible translations, implying both being the same entity or at least to play a similar role (for example, in Order of Ecclesia, he is referred to as Maō Dorakyura (魔王ドラキュラ, "Demon King Dracula")).
  • Although Dracula's portrait artwork for Symphony of the Night depicts him with yellow eyes, his in-game dialogue portrait depicts them as glowing red (via superimposed graphics over Ayami Kojima's original design).
  • One of the pieces of concept art for Dracula included in the Castlevania: Curse of Darkness OST had his pose reused for his character art in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.
  • His artwork as Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was slightly altered from its original appearance, removing all traces of blood. This was likely done to avoid raising the game's age rating, as Symphony of the Night has a higher age rating than Ultimate in all regions.
  • In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Dracula appears as the final boss in Pac-Man's Classic Mode due to the fact that he is chronologically the first SSBU boss who appeared in a video game (in the very first Castlevania game). Similarly, he appears as the final boss in Luigi's Classic Mode as a subtle reference to the Luigi's Mansion subseries in the Mario franchise, which dealt with a similar premise to Castlevania regarding combating supernatural horrors in a haunted building (coincidentally, haunted mansions playing a key role in Simon's Quest). He also acts as a standard boss for Sephiroth's Classic Mode, as a subtle reference to how both characters acted as final bosses of their respective games (Dracula to various Castlevania games, and Sephiroth for Final Fantasy VII). Ironically enough, it also indirectly and unintentionally referenced Alucard's fights against Dracula in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Symphony of the Night and Julius Mode in Dawn of Sorrow, due to Sephiroth having a similar physical appearance to Alucard.

“…… If so, why did you take power away from the crack in the eclipse’s seal? If you just intend to imitate like a monkey, isn’t your own power enough?”
Those were the emotionless words of Death.
In response, Olrox laughed his bold answer.
“As I’ve said, I would equally gain control over the human world and the source of Dracula’s power, chaos. I do not intend to obey someone else’s mind aside from my own. That includes you who were born out of chaos.”
    “……”
“You should be glad though to know yourself. Just by stealing power, my shameful monotonous time is over…… Even before Alucard appeared, just because I showed up and declared war on him.”
Olrox’s voice was mixed with a tinge of thin delight. He respectfully bowed to Death who completely killed his emotions.
“I would end the reincarnation cycle of this demon castle. I who understood and was spun out of the stains of chaos, swear to rob that power with my hands. Now, yield.”
With Death’s reply, an explosive murderous intent rose.
Two bronze colored scythes much larger than usual appeared; it advanced to the space in between the two men with an intention to cut off Olrox’s head.
    Kill the distance-----
    Kill the sound-----
    Just, faster, soon, die.
It can be seen that the blades have certainly caught Olrox’s neck, but----- that is only an after image and the vampire is already at Death’s back.
    “……die.”
That was said by the enemy who called on his servants.
From the surrounding space, a group of purple bats rose, passed by Olrox’s arm with the speed of a bullet, attacking Death. However, Death did not show any gesture of avoiding them. He simply faced Olrox and sprayed out numerous scythes.

  316. WN: Last question. Why does Dracula keep putting meat inside the walls of his castle?

KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
The meat, I have no idea.

  618. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku Novel “I had said it before. I do not intend to bind the world with chaos.”
The bats and scythes cancelled each other out and the entire dance hall sparkled with blood."

    “…..So it was.”
Once he recalled those numerous unfolding battles-----with a bitter smile exchanged words.
“Humans are…… strong. But, it is a fact that Dracula’s castle can be summoned from the chaos that are within them.”
    “Indeed……surely……that power……might be suitable for Dracula……”
Olrox’s body had collapsed but he answered Death with a fearless smile.
“The inheritor of Dracula’s name might emerge…… or might not……You however will…… forever roam as the servant of the night……no matter how many times humans strike you down. As long as humans exist, you being unable to perish……would you still continue to roam this world?”
Olrox seemed to laugh and took pity on the existence that is a contradiction. Death did not despise the loser and he just replied.

  767. "For those people who are involved with the demon castle, even the loneliness of death seemed half hearted-----
The man’s soul is pierced by a small scythe that flew in from somewhere. That scythe did not exist physically. It was a diabolic blade created by some magic and possessed a strong soul.
He understood that something is flowing inside him.
The quantity is small but he realized that this hot magma like thing is eating away his existence. But, in his state it is hard to differentiate whether he is losing control over his boy or his spirit. Still not understanding what is happening to his soul, Curtis just felt that he would soon fade away no matter what he does.
    -----That’s …… enough……
    -----I……don’t care……what happens anymore.
Curtis threw away all his feelings, and just wished.

    And----- his wish reached god.
However, that god is such in name, but his existence is far from Curtis’ faith."
  768. Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku "“Cough…… Olrox…… you!” Death who was wrapped in the giant bloody hand felt the blood of humans eroding his body.
Olrox stayed floating in the air while looking at Death whose movement was sealed----- then in a calm voice said.
“You who were referred to as the undying symbol of death, it might as well be said that death has extended his arm on you.”
Death whose body was being eroded by human blood, confirmed that the blood was magical and had also absorbed other servants----- he shouted.
    “Aha……! You, including other monsters……!”
Not answering his question, Olrox just told his goodbye.
“Having your magic, I do not intend to control your soul. Crumble and fall into nothingness.”
    “Ol……ro……x!”
Death’s magic completely flowed into the [castle]. When that thing that was inside the giant blood sphere was confirmed to disappear ----- It then landed on the ground."
